As mobile devices became more affordable, people at all job levels started bringing their personal devices to work. All of a sudden, people saw workers whose jobs involved manual labor pull out their mobiles and tap away. There was an assumption that they were often cyberslacking—wasting work time on non-work tasks. This chapter introduces a group of janitors who were banned from using their personal devices at work. But their supervisors were stuck in an awkward place: sandwiched between needing to communicate face-to-face with their subordinates and being expected to be constantly reachable through multiple devices because that’s how their own managers communicated. The ban reinforced existing power structures; there were issues of trust, language barriers, computer literacy, and inconsistent enforcement of rules. This ban actually harmed productivity, and the findings suggest that these manual workers can use mobile devices productively: they still need access to on-the-job information.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, mobile use started expanding. From Nokia phones to BlackBerrys, these business tools often were considered status symbols—so it’s natural that control issues emerged. This chapter discusses some cultural-differences data, along with the gut-wrenching decisions that Kjell, a Norwegian entrepreneur, and Matt, a Wall Street Journal executive, had to make concerning whose jobs warranted mobile devices. These managers wrestled with issues of productivity, budgeting, fairness, mooching, and status. The chapter shows what happens when there’s a “boss in your pocket,” as well as the temptation to work all weekend when “sent from my iPhone” appears at the bottom of a message at 6 p.m. on Friday evening. This chapter invites readers to consider issues of hierarchical control and what happens when some workers are accessible 24/7.

Актуальность. Решена актуальная задача многокритериальной статической оптимизации процессов ректификации сиспользованием подвижных управляющих воздействий, которые заключаются в изменении места ввода сырья в колонну, а такжеисследована эффективность их использования при различных статических режимах процесса.Цель работы – повышение производительности процесса ректификации и снижение энергетических затрат на его ведениепутем использования при управлении процессом подвижных управляющих воздействий и многокритериального подхода к расчетуих оптимальных величин.Метод. Предложены методы расчета оптимальной тарелки питания совместно с расчетами оптимальных величин традиционныхуправляющих воздействий – расхода пара в куб колонны и выхода целевого продукта – на основании критериев максимизациипроизводительности и минимизации энергозатрат с использованием нормализованного критерия оптимизации. Расчеты проводятся сиспользованием нелинейной математической модели процесса, описывающей процессы тепло- и массообмена на каждом контактномустройстве установки. Расчет оптимальной точки на границе рабочей области ректификационной колонны в координатах традицион-ных управляющих воздействий предложено вести методом секущих. Так как величина искомого подвижного управляющего воздей-ствия может принимать только дискретные, целочисленные значения, то для решения оптимизационной задачи предложен методсканирования.Результаты. Разработанный оптимизационный метод использовался для расчетов оптимальных статических режимов ректифика-ционной колонны для разделения смеси метанол-вода при изменении значений параметров модели в широких пределах. Доказанаэкстремальная зависимость от величины подвижного управляющего воздействия как частных критериев, так и нормализованногокритерия оптимизации. Результаты моделирования показали, что достигаемое использованием подвижных управляющих воздействийповышение производительности составляет 1–5% при экономии тепла в кубе колонны на 6–8%.Выводы. Проведенные исследования доказали эффективность многокритериального подхода к решению задачи статической опти-мизации процессов ректификации с использованием подвижных управляющих воздействий, что позволяет использовать его на практи-ке. Предложенные методы статической оптимизации применимы для процессов многокомпонентной, сложной ректификации. Дальней-шие исследования в данном направлении заключаются в разработке методов и алгоритмов статической оптимизации процессов ректи-фикации с использованием непрерывных подвижных управляющих воздействий, подвижных воздействий с двумя степенями свободы,в моделировании переходных процессов в ректификационных колоннах при подвижном управлении., Context. The actual task of multi-criteria static optimization of rectification processes with the use of mobile control actions that consistin changing the place of input of raw materials into a column is solved, and the efficiency of their use in various static modes of the processis investigated.Objective – increasing the productivity of the process of rectification and reducing the energy costs by using mobile control actions and a multi-criteria approach to the calculation of their optimal values.Method. Methods are proposed for calculating the optimum feed plate together with calculations of the optimal values of traditionalcontrol actions – steam flow to the column cube and the yield of the target product – based on the criteria for maximizing productivity andminimizing energy consumption using the normalized optimization criterion. Calculations are carried out using a nonlinear mathematicalmodel of the process, describing the heat and mass transfer processes on each column contact device. Calculation of the optimal point at theboundary of the working region of the rectifying column in the coordinates of traditional control actions is suggested to be carried out by the method of secants. Since the magnitude of the desired mobile control action can only take on discrete, integer values, a scanning method is proposed to solve the optimization problem.Results. The developed optimization method was used to calculate the optimal static regimes of the rectification column for separating themethanol-water mixture when the values of the model parameters vary widely. Extremal dependence on the magnitude of the mobile controlaction of both individual criteria and a normalized optimization criterion is proved. The results of the simulation showed that the increase inproductivity achieved by the use of mobile control actions is 1 to 5%, while the heat savings in the reboiler of the column are 6–8%.Conclusions. The carried out researches have proven the effectiveness of the multi-criteria approach to the solution of the problem ofstatic optimization of rectification processes using mobile control actions, which allows using it in practice. The proposed methods of staticoptimization are applicable for processes of multicomponent, complex rectification. Further research in this direction include the developmentof methods and algorithms of the static optimization of rectification processes using continuous mobile control actions, mobile actions withtwo degrees of freedom, modeling of transient responses in rectification columns at mobile control.

Machine Type Communications (MTC) are emerging as a revolutionary paradigm in the present and future mobile generations, expected to experience an explosive growth in the next few years. This new concept will exhaust the control plan of mobile infrastructures by triggering excessive and heavy signaling procedures. In addition, MTC devices are vulnerable and can be exploited to launch distributed DOS (DDoS) attacks against the sensitive signaling plan, these security flaws are very tricky to be noticed. In this paper, we examine a new signaling DDoS attack that exploits the low duty-cycle of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications to saturate the mobile control plan capacity. To defend against this type of attacks, we propose a real-time cost-effective detection approach relying on the recurrence property of the Markov chain characterizing the M2M traffic evolution over time. Extensive simulation results show that the designed signaling DDoS attack will generate a considerable overwhelming signaling traffic leading to a severe availability issue in the critical mobile infrastructure. Besides, our proposed detection mechanism identifies successfully this signaling attack with a detection accuracy around 91% and a fast detection time capped at 380 seconds.

To assist the daily life for the heavy disabled, a new intelligent wheelchair robot has been developed which has the Omni-directional movement function in authors’ lab. To conduct the lift support task, the robot must firstly know the intention of users. In this paper, we focus on the research on the recognition of the directional intent of users. Therefore, a new directional identification method based on the head posture of users was proposed. A fuzzy reasoning method is proposed to predict the users’ behavior intent based on the principle of Kalman Filter and spatial data fusion. The wheelchair robot also can realize Omni-directional mobile control of the intelligent wheelchair. Prototype were conducted using the proposed developed robot and the results demonstrate its feasibility and efficacy.

A key research problem in the field of ship emissions is how to perform efficient, accurate, and timely measurements of pollutant gases in a ship&rsquo, s plume. To address this, we have designed and implemented an unmanned aerial system (UAS) that consists of a rotary unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a lightweight pod for exhaust monitoring, and a mobile control terminal. The UAV carries the pod and a camera and can fly into a plume at close range. The pod is equipped with a gas acquisition module, SO2 and NO2 sensors, and communication modules to measure the gases in real time. The mobile control terminal is convenient for operators and receives real-time video and measured gas concentrations. We measured SO2 and NO2 in six ship plumes in 2018 to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the UAS. The SO2/NO2 ratios in high-sulfur fuel were significantly higher than of those in low-sulfur fuel and can thus be used for distinguishing the sulfur content of ship fuel. In comparison to land-based and airborne-based measurements, we conclude that the UAS provides an active, close-range, low-cost, and accurate measurement approach for monitoring ship emissions in real time.

The EMG signals can be produced from the human muscle activity. This paper explains the control system of the robot mobile which uses the EMG signal from three muscles contraction such as the jaw muscles, the right arm muscles, and the left arm muscles. The peak values of the EMG signal was used as the input to the ANN system using the Backpropagation algorithm, and it produces the output which has nine target conditions; the forward, then turn right and then turn left where each of them has the variations such as the slow, the medium and the fast. The ANN has been trained with 270 of the training data, and it has been tested with 135 of the testing data from 15 respondents who performed muscle contraction activities. Based on the test result, there are only two unrecognizable data with the rate of the system accuracy is 98.52%. The movements of the robot mobile can be controlled based on the recognized movement patterns with the specified target conditions.

The mobile control of the wheeled mobile robot is affected by local disturbance error, which leads to low control precision. A mobile control model of wheeled mobile robot based on RTK-GPS (real-time kinematic GPS) is proposed. The mobile control system of wheeled mobile robot is designed with embedded ARM technology as the core processor of controller. Firstly, the mobile control algorithm of wheeled mobile robot is designed. The attitude determination parameter of wheeled mobile robot is taken as the control constraint parameter, and the attitude determination control of the wheeled mobile robot and the path map traversal of attitude parameter output are processed. According to the coordinate position of the locus map, the robot's moving location is carried out, and the trajectory following adjustment is realized by RTK-GPS technology, and the control law is optimized. Then the hardware of the control system is developed under the embedded ARM technology integrated information processing environment. The robot attitude adjusting system, the central integrated control module and the man-machine interaction module are designed and described in detail. The system test results show that the proposed method has better output performance, lower attitude determination error and better control convergence of wheeled mobile robot.

The necessary conditions for optimality were established in the form of the pointwise and integral principles of maximum. In this paper we consider design principles for three high-performance microprocessor multi-channel strain-gauge systems used in dynamic tests of different structures (endurance tests of alighting gears, mobile control of wagon wheels, etc.). It is underlined that, in contrast to well-known systems, strain gauges power supply is performed by direct current. To avoid the impact of self-heating temperature errors on measurement results, strain gauges power supply is activated for short periods to measure the deformations of a structure.

The present car alarm systems are still of no match to the well-equipped thieves. It is just a matter of seconds to break through the system. This paper introduces and describes the design of mobile controlled car security system offering higher level of car security features. The mobile controlled car security is capable of providing an effective two-way communications between the alarm system and the car owner. This system is able to notify the car owner immediately when intrusion is detected. Additionally, the car owner can remotely control any of the car features anytime at anywhere via a phone call. Based on the GSM positioning concept, this system has the potential to provide car location information to assist in stolen vehicle recovery therefore providing enhancement over the conventional car alarm system.

The paper discusses the requirements to design a mobile control center (MCC), which is a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) educational control center that is compact and that can be used in different high sea ROV operations. The intended applications are for research and educational purposes.

Movement based interactive artworks are capable of instantly engaging audiences by reacting to physical motion consistently with real-world physics. Sustaining this engagement, however, requires a constant alteration of both the output and interaction aesthetics. Mobile devices (such as the iPad or iPhone) can be used to control the often-overwhelming plethora of parameters found in many interactive systems. The effect that mobile control of these parameters has on the inception, refinement and live performance of two separate art works is examined. An open-source dynamic remote control system is being developed to further facilitate the creative development and performance of interactive artwork as demonstrated by these case studies.

In recent years there is a vast technology improvements in industrial control rooms for monitoring the entire field of Industrial plants. High end PLC's are being implemented for controlling the entire process of fields. But a problem is that even though automation takes the complete control of total plants few authentication and manual actions are needed from user side for completing the control action. Hence there is a must situation for users presence at all times in the control room for taking some timely needed control actions. Due to the static nature of control room environment, the user should always be static to monitor the process. The proposed system approach provides a good solution to this problem. The whole control room environment is additionally implemented in the arduino-android platform and the same is communicated to the process through Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / GPRS. Now the user in control room can be mobile at anytime, anywhere to monitor and control the whole plant. An arduino uno board is used here for acquiring process control parameters from the sensors and transmitting it via a Bluetooth module to an android device. Hence the parameter values can be monitored and stored simultaneously.

The task of this work was to design and realize a remote real system monitoring and control with the help of a mobile or smart phone in the client/server structure. The client segment running in a mobile or smart phone with LTE, UMTS or GSM GPRS/EDGE was realized in the JME environment. Internet data transfer is supported by a TCP/IP protocol. The server segment was created in JSE on a PC with a simple desktop application for remote control from a PC used to control the real system and its optional local manual control.

One of the most important factors for successful agricultural production is the irrigation system in place. In this study, a precision irrigation system, which takes advantage of the various phases of plant growth, was developed and implemented using the sensor network technology integrated with IOS/Android. The amount of water in the soil was measured via sensors that were placed on certain points of the area to be irrigated. These sensors were placed near the root of the product. Data from sensors was transmitted via Wi-Fi in real-time to a mobile phone based on IOS/Android. In the light of obtained data, the seasonal precision irrigation system was created depending on the amount of water required by the plants at each stage of their growth stage. The required energy of the system was provided by solar energy. The system can be controlled by smart phones, which increases the usability of the system. When design performance was analyzed, it was observed that some important advantages such as obtaining high efficiency with water, time and energy saving and reducing the workforce were ensured. Five separate laterals were used for the irrigation system. There were valves on each lateral, which realized the opening and closing process depending on the water need. A total of 16 humidity sensors were used in the irrigation system and the data from these sensors was transferred to the IOS/Android server via the programmable controller (PLC). The basic electrical equipment in the irrigation system was monitored and controlled via mobile devices. Control parameters were obtained by comparing the real values and reference values by a closed-loop system and determine the new working status of the irrigation system. © 2017 by the authors.

The effect of movable distributed regulatory impact on the heat-mass exchange processes in the distillation column is investigated. It is shown that appropriate solution of the distillation process control problems can be achieved only by taking into account their qualitative specificity as an object with distributed parameters and building a new class of control systems of distributed objects with movable regulatory impact.The nature of the effect of the movable distributed regulatory impact on the controlled variables is determined. The possibility to select the allowable regulatory impact, i.e., organize heat-mass exchange processes at the right time and at a predetermined position of the distillation column is shown.One of the main advantages of movable regulatory impact is that they allow to expand the distillation unit controllability areas.The results can be used in developing static optimization and optimal distillation process control systems., Исследовано влияние подвижных распределенных регулирующих воздействий на процессы тепло- и массообмена в ректификационной колонне. Установлен характер влияния подвижных распределенных регулирующих воздействий на управляемые величины. Показана возможность выбора допустимого регулирующего воздействия. After the Fukushima nuclear accident, means to mitigate the severe situation have been proposed in many countries. One of those means is the mobile control room in which operators can monitor and control the damaged facilities from remote locations. The mobile control room is different from usual main control rooms of nuclear power plants in aspects of the quantity of transmitted information and the size of room space. A new type of operator interface for the mobile control room is required as operator tasks are reduced but more critical. A prototype of operator interface which aims to provide direct perception and manipulation function is shown in this presentation. The operator interface runs on 3D environment and is being developed on a touch device-SUR40. Currently, navigation from a site to a unit, zooming in/out for monitoring the overall status of facilities and diagnosing faulty components and controlling active components can be carried out through this prototype.

International audience; To explore small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing identifying technology for horticultural crop diseases, and to combine it with small UAV spraying, the peach leaf blade was taken as material, the peach shot-hole disease was taken as object for spectral capture, and the intellectualized identifying and precision control system for horticultural crop diseases were developed, mainly including the identifying system for horticultural crop diseases, spraying pesticide system carried by small UAV, and the ground mobile control station system. Some sub-systems were initially tested in laboratory and outside. This study can provide an important reference for unmanned precise control of horticultural crop diseases.

A GUI-based mobile control console for digital conference system, is introduced in this paper. Most mobile control consoles of digital conference systems require additional hardware implementation. However, this work uses an existing smart phone (iphone) without any additional hardware, which means the proposed mobile control console implemented in apple's iphone with application software written on the iOS SDK platform. Therefore, this work aims to propose a convenient approach without the cost of additional hardware to achieve wireless remote control to a graphical control software platform for our developed digital conference systems.

The investigation has shown that there is currently no clear winner among the networking techniques in this area, although Zigbee, Z-Wave and Wi-Fi are the strongest candidates to gain large market shares. There is also no certainty that any technology will play a much greater role than the others since the techniques may complement each other because of their strength in different areas. The investigation also showed that as for a development environment the product solution developed by the Swedish company Telldus (called Tellstick) is relatively cheap and simple to use to get started with home automation, and that they encourage third party development by offering two open APIs for application development.

We discuss several new results on nonnegative approximate controllability for the one-dimensional Heat equation governed by either multiplicative or nonnegative additive control, acting within a proper subset of the space domain at every moment of time. Our methods allow us to link these two types of controls to some extend. The main results include approximate controllability properties both for the static and mobile control supports.

An onboard navigation system is under investigation for mining machines. The system is intended for use in autonomous mining operations. The system provides heading information using a gyroscope, two flux-gate sensors, and clinometers. Testing has shown that the flux-gate sensors exhibit a static error when mounted on the mining machine. Recalibration of the sensor improved this situation. The gyroscope operated properly when mounted on the machine but required resetting with the flux-gate sensors or with data from the mobile control systems (MCS) every 14 min, due to inherent drifts. >

The tasks involved in the autonomous face navigation for a continuous mining machine and the navigational information necessary to perform these tasks are discussed. The proposed solution is presented, including the use of a mobile control structure (MCS) to serve as a reference in the face area of laser-based optical scanning units and retroreflective targets to determine the machine's position relative to the reference, and the use of gyroscope to maintain a short-term knowledge of the heading of the machine. An algorithm for fusion of the laser system's data is outlined. Future work on the navigational control software is discussed, and the status of the project is given. >

Исследовано влияние подвижных распределенных регулирующих воздействий на процессы тепло- и массообмена в ректификационной колонне. Установлен характер влияния подвижных распределенных регулирующих воздействий на управляемые величины. Показана возможность выбора допустимого регулирующего воздействия. Полученные результаты могут быть использованы при разработке систем статической оптимизации и оптимального управления процесса ректификации.

The operational capabilities of navigation locks, especially those using programmable logic controllers (PLCs), can be further enhanced by the implementation of onsite wireless control of lock operating machinery and systems using either a portable transmitter/receiver system or moderns interfaced to a mobile control panel. In essence, the entire lock can be operated via onsite wireless control. Onsite wireless control provides the opportunity for lock personnel to operate the locks outside of the control room. This added mobility enables operators to better position themselves to see and hear what is happening during lockage operations. Furthermore, some lock operations (such as tow haulage) can be accomplished more safely than when confined to operating from a control room.

All the design methods that have been considered in this Part are oriented towards the control of dynamic plants described by ordinary differential equations. Theoretical generalizations to the infinite-dimensional cases involve basic difficulties due to the need of constructing a special mathematical apparatus for the study of discontinuous partial differential equations or, stated more generally, discontinuous equations in a Banach space [111]. The method of equivalent control developed in Part I for finite-dimensional systems was shown [110] to be applicable to the distributed systems described by secondorder parabolic or hyperbolic equations with discontinuous distributed or lumped control. A wise range of processes (e.g. thermal and mechanical) is described by the equations of this kind.

A method to determine parameters of the mobile control source is considered which provides maintenance of the given state of the plant. The problem ia divided into two easier subproblems distributed control design and its realization with the help of the mobile source.

NIPPON TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE CORPORATION (NTT) has developed an aeronautical telephone system, which will be commercially available in 1986. This system operates on the 800-MHz frequency band, and with six base stations, covers almost all domestic air routes in Japan. Futhermore, it utilizes Phase Modulation(PM) to satisfy the required speech quality for public telephone service. Mobile Control Stations(MCS) and Automobile Switching Centers (AMC) are shared with the automobile telephone system to reduce the system s construction costs.
