Recent advances in microelectronic circuit have enabled the application of process diagnostics to a variety of systems to improve performances and the reliability. Failure detection and isolation strategies monitor a system for degradations and if detected, classify the failure source. One of the most important methods for failure detection and diagnosis is the analysis of the variations of the estimated parameter of DC Motor. In this paper is presented a structure of a method for failure detection and diagnosis based on continuous time parameter estimation of a mathematical model of the DC Motor. Continuous time parameters can be related easily to the physical characterizations of DC Motor. The parameter is directly estimated by well-known prediction error method of identification for dynamic systems. The failure detection it is based on changing the process coefficient and statistical decision methods. Unlike usual papers, the failure can be detected whether others process parameters are not constant.

The paper aims to analyze the time and frequency domains of EMG signals coming from healthy patients and from patients with muscular disorders (muscular myopathy and neuropathy). The study of these signals can reveal some features in time domain or in frequency domain, that can serve as a basis for diagnosis.

The paper presents a low cost system for wireless monitoring of the progressive loading of lower limb. This system contains a smart device able to measure the plantar pressure, to compare it with predefined levels and to signal the patient in order to avoid excessive loading of the limb in case of patients following post-traumatic rehabilitation.

The work proposes the analyze of several EKG signals (measured from different patients just before death occurrence), by the mean of STFT (Short Time Fourier Transform). The goal is to emphasize some aspects that are distinguishable only in signal’s spectrograms, but also the importance of information that lie in the phase diagram of STFT of each signal. The information obtained only from analyzing the magnitude of spectrogram is often irrelevant, which is the reason why it must be completed with facts extracted from the signal’s phase. Thus, an EKG signal can be reasonable described by the mean of three sources of information: time domain, spectrogram and phase diagram.

The improvement of data transmission techniques is considered a first rank priority in the medical domain, having as purpose the transfer of biomedical signals from one device to another, for a faster diagnosis.

The paper presents different ways of transmitting biomedical signals, depending on the transmissionpsilas range. Thus, the new wireless technologies, combined with the data transmission within a local area network (LAN) or the internet, will contribute to a better health-care system developing.

Starting from the standard MERO walking modular robot, which is a robot on 3x6 degrees of freedom, autonomous, being able to interact with the environment, are presented the results obtained by the improvement of the structural and real time control performances. For this purpose kinematics and kinetostatics analysis are performed, and the mathematic model of the inverted kinematics is determined for controlling the main trajectory that defines legs’ support and weigh centre positions. Related to this there is presented an Open Architecture system for the MERO robot position control in Cartesian coordinates through real time processing of the Jacobean matrix obtained out of the forward kinematics using the Denevit-Hartenberg method and calculating the Jacobean inverted matrix for feedback. The obtained results prove a significant reduction of the execution time for the real time control of MERO robot’s position in Cartesian coordinates and increased flexibility.

SPL (Single-rail Pass-transistor Logic) is one of the most promising logic styles for low power circuits. This paper examines some key issues in the implementation of SPL: swing restoration, optimum number of pass-transistor stages between buffers and SPL circuits with two supply voltages. Simulation results based on netlists extracted from layout are presented to compare SPL, CPL and standard CMOS.

Eurocode 8, published in 1994 as a European prestandard, is considered to represent the latest word in codified earthquake design. On the other hand, in Romania there is a large practical experience in seismic design and the Romanian seismic design codes were recently revised (1992 and 1996), including the latest experience and concepts in seismic design.

Background and Aims Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) appears to be increasingly common in children even in Eastern Europe. The aim of this paper was to examine the prevalence of children with IBD and to compare the results with a similar study performed twelve years ago. Methods We report the results of a survey of all the departments of pediatric gastroenterology in Bucharest designed to determine the characteristics of children with IBD. We selected patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Cohn’s Disease (CD) during a 12 years period (2ooo–2012). The patients of the cohort were stratified according to diagnosis CD and UC, as well as age at first manifestation. Results There were 21 cases of IBD in children reported in 2000 and 77 children in 2012. From those pediatric patients who were diagnosed as IBD between 2000–2012, we identified 41 cases of UC (53.2%) and 36 patients with CD (46.7%). The previous study reported 17 (81%) patients with UC and 4 (19%) patients with CD. The mean age of onset of symptoms in 2012 was 10.2 years while in 2000 this was 13.2 years. 14.9% of children are under 5 year of age. Conclusion Number of patients with IBD has tripled in the last 12 years in our geographical area. UC is still the most frequent form of IBD in children but we report a growing number of CD cases. There is a significant trend for first manifestation occurring at younger ages today compared to the last decade.

We show that SPL (single-ended pass transistor logic) is a promising logic style for low power design especially for arithmetic functions. SPL uses mainly NMOS transistors, the layout is compact, simple and regular (only 10 library cells required) but synthesis is more difficult. We compare SPL (using single and split supply voltages) with CPL and CMOS circuits for standard elements using a commercial 0.35 /spl mu/m process. SPL is better by up to 3x in power and 2x in area. We also discuss the limitations and difficulties of SPL and possible solutions.
