A lumped capacitance equivalent circuit is used to characterize the asymmetric edge-coupled microstrip discontinuity in the case in which the conducting strips are embedded in a multilayered anisotropic medium. The Galerkin method in the spectral domain is employed to determine the excess charge density on the strips of the discontinuity. The present article describes the use of a unified eigenmode approach for the analysis of the symmetrical N-port microstrip ring coupler (where N can take on any positive integer value). Strip-line circuits at relatively higher frequencies can be considered as two-dimensionally extended circuits rather than one-dimensional transmission-line circuits. Hence, the strip- line circuit can be modeled as a parallel-plate planar circuit. In this article, the following topics are reviewed and described based on the results of many researchers: (1) how to model the strip-line circuit to a parallel-plate waveguide circuit, which leads to a parallel- plate planar circuit; (2) how to analyze the strip-line modeled parallel-plate waveguide circuit based on planar circuit equations and conventional circuit theory where mode voltage and mode current are properly defined—especially how to construct the circuit equations after dividing the planar circuit into parallel-plate waveguides and planar junctions, and giving the corresponding the mode characteristic impedance and mode impedance; and (3) the practical analysis of a stub-type Iowpass filter and branch-line 3-dB hybrid with the corre- sponding experimental results. A theoretically revealed effect [Belov et al., Opt. Lett. 34, 527 (2009)] of the significant enhancement of evanescent harmonics inside a wire medium slab is experimentally verified in the microwave frequency range. The phenomenon originates from resonant pumping of standing waves into which evanescent waves are converted inside the slab. Analytic expressions for alternating current (ac) loss in radially arranged superconducting strips are presented. We adopt the weight-function approach to obtain the field distributions in the critical state model, and we have developed an analytic method to calculate hysteretic ac loss in superconducting strips for small-current amplitude. We present the dependence of the ac loss in radial strips upon the configuration of the strips and upon the number of strips. The results show that behavior of the ac loss of radial strips carrying bidirectional currents differs significantly from that carrying unidirectional currents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nonuniform bidefected ground structures (NB-DGS) are introduced in this paper. By using NB-DGS, compact frequency-selective microstrip lines (FML) are designed and measured. A compact spurline design using spiral folding of the resonator is proposed. Length reduction of up to 83% is achieved making the technique useful for lower microwave frequencies. One-section spurline bandstop filters of both conventional and the new design with a centre frequency of 600 MHz have been tested and compared. The design, breadboarding and measurements of a waveguide and a 90° bend in electromagnetic crystal technology at Ku band are presented. These devices were fabricated in printed circuit technology fed by two microstrip lines. A good match between simulation and measurement has been achieved.
