In a growing context of multiculturalism, prosocial behavior is important to build effective social exchange and service orientation among university students. The present study investigates prosocial behavior from a psychometric approach, to obtain evidence of the internal structure of the prosocial behavior scale (PS), in 737 young people enrolled at universities in Argentina (207), Spain (310), and Peru (220). First, the clarity of the items was explored in the three countries; second, possible irrelevant patterns of response, such as the careless and extreme responses, were evaluated; third, the non-parametric Mokken methodology was applied to identify the basic properties of the scale score; fourth, the structural equation modeling (SEM) methodology was used to identify the properties of the internal structure (dimensionality, tau-equivalence) of the latent construct; fifth, the measurement invariance according to sex (intra-equivalence) and country (inter-equivalence) was examined with the SEM methodology and other complementary strategies. Finally, reliability and internal consistency were evaluated both at score level and at item level. Objective: Given the evidence missing from validity studies that replicate the internal structure of the Mental Health Inventory - 5 (MHI-5) in Peruvian adolescents, this study performs a preliminary evaluation of the psychometric properties of MHI-5, specifically its internal structure., Methods: The sample was 75 students of both sexes from a private high school-level educational institution, in the Casma city (Lima, Peru). The analysis was performed by applying a confirmatory factor analysis approach within the modeling of structural equations., Results: A single significant dimension was found to be viable for interpreting the scores, but the fit was substantially improved when a factor was introduced that represented the effect of two item negative phrasing. On the other hand, the internal consistency was greater than .70, and it is considered satisfactory given its brevity., Conclusions: It is concluded that the MHI-5 maintains the essential one-dimensionality, but it is required to introduce the possible effect of the method due to the content of some of its items. Consistency reliability was acceptable for screening purposes. The following steps are discussed to accumulate more validity evidence, suggesting to develop a shorter version without the problematic items, to reduce the potential response bias.

The objective of this study was to validate the Workload Scale in Peruvian workers. The sampling was purposive -170 industrial workers at a chemical and detergent company with a technical education (83 of whom were women)- located in Metropolitan Lima. We used confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate the dimensionality of the items and the equivalence between men and women; reliability estimates of internal consistency; and linear regression of demographic variables on the workload were estimated. A one-dimensional factorial structure was found, and the metric equivalence of the items was similar between men and women; the reliability was acceptable, and workload intensity varied slightly by the type of labor contract., (Copyright belongs to the Societat Catalana de Salut Laboral.)

This research intended to validate two brief scales of sensations seeking with Peruvian adolescents: the eight item scale (BSSS8; Hoyle, Stephenson, Palmgreen, Lorch, y Donohew, 2002) and the four item scale (BSSS4; Stephenson, Hoyle, Slater, y Palmgreen, 2003). Questionnaires were administered to 618 voluntary participants, with an average age of 13.6 years, from different levels of high school, state and private school in a district in the south of Lima. It analyzed the internal structure of both short versions using three models: a) unidimensional (M1), b) oblique or related dimensions (M2), and c) the bifactor model (M3). Results show that both instruments have a single dimension which best represents the variability of the items; a fact that can be explained both by the complexity of the concept and by the small number of items representing each factor, which is more noticeable in the BSSS4. Reliability is within levels found by previous studies: alpha: .745 = BSSS8 and BSSS4 =. 643; omega coefficient: .747 in BSSS8 and .651 in BSSS4. These are considered suitable for the type of instruments studied. Based on the correlation between the two instruments, it was found that there are satisfactory levels of equivalence between the BSSS8 and BSSS4. However, it is recommended that the BSSS4 is mainly used for research and for the purpose of describing populations.

In the psychological measurement, especially in personality, the paper-pencil method is the usual device between the psychologist and allied professions. The score obtained by a person examined can have questionable validity if the responses were random. To identify this problem, different methods have been used. The random response is a challenging situation for the measurement research and diagnosis in cognitive performance and personality, when they have been measured by test of dichotomous type. In this study a computer program that implements the Charter's method of point estimate and confidence intervals is presented in order to identify if the score obtained can be considered random. We analyze and discuss this program uses in the research and professional practice.
