Abstract Background During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses' workload increased dramatically, and nurses faced the risk of infection and multiple ethical dilemmas. In such a situation, nurse burnout was elevated, which tended to exacerbate depression in nurses. Although previous studies have demonstrated the relationship between burnout and depression among nurses, the exact mechanisms remain unclear. Furthermore, environmental factors are also essential to a person's psychological health. Therefore, this study intended to investigate the potential mechanisms of depression caused by nurse burnout and whether burnout among frontline nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated its effect on depression in nurses as an environmental factor. Methods A total of 4517 nurses were enrolled in this study. A moderated mediation model was established to investigate the relationship between burnout and positive coping styles, interpersonal relationships, and depression utilizing the SPSS PROCESS 3.3 macro. The direct effect of burnout on depression was also investigated with the moderated mediation model. Results The indirect effects of positive coping styles (β = 0.04, 95% CI: 0.03 to 0.04) and interpersonal relationships (β = 0.12, 95% CI: 0.10 to 0.13) were revealed. Being a frontline nurse caring for COVID-19 patients moderated the direct effect of burnout on depression (β = 0.12, 95% CI: 0.08 to 0.16). Conclusion This study offers strong evidence for the mediating role of positive coping styles and interpersonal relationships in the relationship between nurse burnout and depression, in addition to illustrating the need for more psychological support for frontline nurses caring for COVID-19 patients.

With the aim of addressing the complexity of decision environments, uncertainty of decision information and weight determination of mutual influence between decision makers, a (p, q)-rung interval-valued orthopair fuzzy multi-attribute group decision making algorithm based on weight optimization is proposed. First, in order to improve the ability of decision makers to capture their judgment in a wider space, the concept of a (p, q)-rung interval-valued orthopair fuzzy set is proposed, and its related definition and properties are studied. Second, considering the mutual influence between decision makers and the relationship between attributes, the analytic network process (ANP) and entropy method are employed to determine the subjective and objective weights, respectively. Considering the influence of subjective and objective weights on the combination weights, the deviation degree and dispersion degree of the subjective and objective weights are taken as objective functions, and the optimal solution of the combination weights is iteratively solved by genetic algorithm. Then, based on the (p, q)-rung interval-valued orthopair fuzzy set and weight optimization model, an improved (p, q)-rung interval-valued orthopair fuzzy ELECTRE method is proposed. Finally, in order to verify the accuracy and robustness of the algorithm, the algorithm is applied to the example analysis of investment enterprise evaluation, and the results demonstrate that the algorithm has definite theoretical and application value.

Abstract Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is a major cause of cancer-related mortality due to the absence of effective therapeutics. Thus, it is urgent to discover new drugs for mCRC. Fucosyltransferase 8 (FUT8) is a potential therapeutic target with high level in most malignant cancers including CRC. FUT8 mediates the core fucosylation of CD276 (B7-H3), a key immune checkpoint molecule (ICM), in CRC. FUT8-silence-induced defucosylation at N104 on B7-H3 attracts heat shock protein family A member 8 (HSPA8, also known as HSC70) to bind with 106-110 SLRLQ motif and consequently propels lysosomal proteolysis of B7-H3 through the chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) pathway. Then we report the development and characterization of a potent and highly selective small-molecule inhibitor of FUT8, named FDW028, which evidently prolongs the survival of mice with CRC pulmonary metastases (CRPM). FDW028 exhibits potent anti-tumor activity by defucosylation and impelling lysosomal degradation of B7-H3 through the CMA pathway. Taken together, FUT8 inhibition destabilizes B7-H3 through CMA-mediated lysosomal proteolysis, and FDW028 acts as a potent therapeutic candidate against mCRC by targeting FUT8. FDW028, an inhibitor specifically targeted FUT8, promotes defucosylation and consequent HSC70/LAMP2A-mediated lysosomal degradation of B7-H3, and exhibits potent anti-mCRC activities.

Abstract The oral cavity harbors highly diverse communities of microorganisms. However, the number of isolated species and high-quality genomes is limited. Here we present a Cultivated Oral Bacteria Genome Reference (COGR), comprising 1089 high-quality genomes based on large-scale aerobic and anaerobic cultivation of human oral bacteria isolated from dental plaques, tongue, and saliva. COGR covers five phyla and contains 195 species-level clusters of which 95 include 315 genomes representing species with no taxonomic annotation. The oral microbiota differs markedly between individuals, with 111 clusters being person-specific. Genes encoding CAZymes are abundant in the genomes of COGR. Members of the Streptococcus genus make up the largest proportion of COGR and many of these harbor entire pathways for quorum sensing important for biofilm formation. Several clusters containing unknown bacteria are enriched in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, emphasizing the importance of culture-based isolation for characterizing and exploiting oral bacteria.

Abstract Uranium (U) is a well-known nephrotoxicant which forms precipitates in the lysosomes of renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) after U-exposure at a cytotoxic dose. However, the roles of lysosomes in U decorporation and detoxification remain to be elucidated. Mucolipin transient receptor potential channel 1 (TRPML1) is a major lysosomal Ca2+ channel regulating lysosomal exocytosis. We herein demonstrate that the delayed administration of the specific TRPML1 agonist ML-SA1 significantly decreases U accumulation in the kidney, mitigates renal proximal tubular injury, increases apical exocytosis of lysosomes and reduces lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) in renal PTECs of male mice with single-dose U poisoning or multiple-dose U exposure. Mechanistic studies reveal that ML-SA1 stimulates intracellular U removal and reduces U-induced LMP and cell death through activating the positive TRPML1-TFEB feedback loop and consequent lysosomal exocytosis and biogenesis in U-loaded PTECs in vitro. Together, our studies demonstrate that TRPML1 activation is an attractive therapeutic strategy for the treatment of U-induced nephrotoxicity.

Abstract Aims To investigate the association of methylation risk score (MRS) and its interactions with environmental factors with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk. Methods We conducted a nested case–control study with 241 onset cases and 241 matched controls. Conditional logistic regression models were employed to identify risk CpG sites. Simple and weighted MRSs were constructed based on the methylation levels of ATP‐binding cassette G1 gene, fat mass and obesity associated gene, potassium voltage‐gated channel member 1 gene, and thioredoxin‐interacting protein gene previously associated with T2DM to estimate the association of MRS with T2DM risk. Stratified analyses were used to investigate interactions between MRS and environmental factors. Results A total of 10 CpG loci were identified from the aforementioned genes to calculate MRS. After controlling for potential confounding factors, taking tertile 1 as reference, the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for T2DM of tertile 3 was 2.39 (1.36–4.20) for simple MRS and 2.59 (1.45–4.63) for weighted MRS. With per SD score increment in MRS, the OR (95% CI) was 1.66 (1.29–2.14) and 1.60 (1.24–2.08) for simple and weighted MRSs, respectively. J‐curved associations were observed between both simple and weighted MRSs and T2DM risks. BackgroundAn association between prognosis and high sodium levels in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) has been noted, but limited research exists on the ideal sodium level in these patients or the impact on early mortality, using the MIMIC-IV database.MethodsA retrospective survey was conducted on TBI patients from the MIMIC-IV database. Patients were divided into two categories based on their highest serum sodium level within 24 h of admission exceeding 145 mmol/L: those with hypernatremia, and those with moderate-to-low sodium levels. Collected covariates encompasses demographic, clinical, laboratory, and intervention variables. A multivariate logistic regression model was implemented to forecast in-hospital mortality.ResultsThe study included 1749 TBI patients, with 209 (11.5%) experiencing in-hospital deaths. A non-linear test exposed an L-shaped correlation between sodium level and in-hospital mortality, with mortality rates increasing after a turning point at 144.1 mmol/L. Compared to the moderate-to-low group’s 9.3% mortality rate, the hypernatremia group had a significantly higher mortality rate of 25.3% (crude odds ratio = 3.32, 95% confidence interval: 2.37 ~ 4.64, p

The genus Bifidobacterium widely exists in human gut and has been increasingly used as the adjuvant probiotics for the prevention and treatment of diseases. However, the functional differences of Bifidobacterium genomes from different regions of the world remain unclear. We here describe an extensive study on the genomic characteristics and function annotations of 1512 genomes (clustered to 849 non-redundant genomes) of Bifidobacterium cultured from human gut. The distribution of some carbohydrate-active enzymes varied among different Bifidobacterium species and continents. More than 36% of the genomes of B. pseudocatenulatum harbored biosynthetic gene clusters of lanthipeptide-class-iv. 99.76% of the cultivated genomes of Bifidobacterium harbored genes of bile salt hydrolase. Most genomes of B. adolescentis, and all genomes of B. dentium harbored genes involved in gamma-aminobutyric acid synthesis. B. longum subsp. infantis were characterized harboring most genes related to human milk oligosaccharide utilization. Significant differences between the distribution of antibiotic resistance genes among different species and continents revealed the importance to use antibiotics precisely in the clinical treatment. Phages infecting Bifidobacterium and horizontal gene transfers occurring in genomes of Bifidobacterium were dependent on species and region sources, and might help Bifidobacterium adapt to the environment. In addition, the distribution of Bifidobacterium in human gut was found varied from different regions of the world. This study represents a comprehensive view of characteristics and functions of genomes of cultivated Bifidobacterium from human gut, and enables clinical advances in the future.

In this paper, a past information-based fault detection (FD) interval observer is designed for linear time-invariant discrete-time system with external disturbances. The past outputs, upper and lower estimations in a finite time window are applied to construct observer. Design freedom of the FD observer is raised by introducing the gain matrices of past information. The interval property is realized through time-delay positive systems theory and the undetermined observer matrices is solved with disturbance attenuation, fault sensitivity and nonnegativity conditions. The decision is implemented by residual interval and natural threshold. Finally, simulation is proceeded to declare the FD performance.

Abstract Aims The specific and multifaceted service needs of young people have driven the development of youth-specific integrated primary mental healthcare models, such as the internationally pioneering headspace services in Australia. Although these services were designed for early intervention, they often need to cater for young people with severe conditions and complex needs, creating challenges in service planning and resource allocation. There is, however, a lack of understanding and consensus on the definition of complexity in such clinical settings. Methods This retrospective study involved analysis of headspace’s clinical minimum data set from young people accessing services in Australia between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019. Based on consultations with experts, complexity factors were mapped from a range of demographic information, symptom severity, diagnoses, illness stage, primary presenting issues and service engagement patterns. Consensus clustering was used to identify complexity subgroups based on identified factors. Multinomial logistic regression was then used to evaluate whether these complexity subgroups were associated with other risk factors. Results A total of 81,622 episodes of care from 76,021 young people across 113 services were analysed. Around 20% of young people clustered into a ‘high complexity’ group, presenting with a variety of complexity factors, including severe disorders, a trauma history and psychosocial impairments. Two moderate complexity groups were identified representing ‘distress complexity’ and ‘psychosocial complexity’ (about 20% each). Compared with the ‘distress complexity’ group, young people in the ‘psychosocial complexity’ group presented with a higher proportion of education, employment and housing issues in addition to psychological distress, and had lower levels of service engagement. The distribution of complexity profiles also varied across different headspace services. Conclusions The proposed data-driven complexity model offers valuable insights for clinical planning and resource allocation. The identified groups highlight the importance of adopting a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to address the diverse factors contributing to clinical complexity. The large number of young people presenting with moderate-to-high complexity to headspace early intervention services emphasises the need for systemic change in youth mental healthcare to ensure the availability of appropriate and timely support for all young people.

Background The presence of sudden onset to maximal deficit (SOTMD) in patients with acute basilar artery occlusion often results in more severe outcomes. However, the effect of endovascular therapy on SOTMD and whether the outcome is affected by onset‐to‐puncture time remain unclear. Methods and Results This retrospective analysis was conducted using data from the prospective BASILAR (Endovascular Treatment for Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion Study Registry). Consecutive patients with basilar artery occlusion receiving endovascular therapy were dichotomized into SOTMD and non‐SOTMD cohorts. The primary outcomes included a favorable outcome (modified Rankin scale 0–3), recanalization, and mortality at 90 days. The outcomes of patients with SOTMD were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression. In the multivariate analysis, a favorable outcome was similar between the two cohorts (odds ratio [OR], 0.88 [95% CI, 0.58–1.34]; P=0.5), although the mortality of patients with SOTMD was higher than that of patients with non‐SOTMD (OR, 1.67 [95% CI, 1.14–2.44]; P=0.008). The probability of mortality increased from 40.0% at 1 hour to 70.0% at 6 hours in the SOTMD cohort, and favorable outcomes of patients with non‐SOTMD declined from 38.0% at 1 hour to 18.0% at 8 hours. Conclusions No significant difference was observed in favorable outcomes between the SOTMD and non‐SOTMD groups, although mortality was higher in the SOTMD cohort. The patients with SOTMD had a stronger time dependence for endovascular therapy in terms of mortality, while the time dependency regarding favorable outcome in the NSOTMD group was even higher. What is the impact of environmental management system certification on green innovation performance, and is it a futile endeavor or a profitable one? Grounded in the principles of ecological civilization construction and green development, this study embarks on a comprehensive examination. Initially, it investigates the varying impacts of environmental management system certification on both traditional innovation performance and green innovation performance. Subsequently, it dissects the underlying mechanisms and moderating factors influencing the latter, including an exploration of intermediary effects. The empirical findings of this study are as follows: (i) Environmental management system certification emerges as a catalyst for innovation performance, with the primary impact observed in the realm of green innovation performance. (ii) Social responsibility disclosure is identified as a mediating factor in the relationship between environmental management system certification and green innovation performance. (iii) Larger enterprises, those equipped with robust equity incentives, and those operating in less competitive markets are more prone to benefit from the impact of environmental management system certification on social responsibility disclosure. This, in turn, amplifies the promotion of green innovation performance. However, the moderating effect of property rights on the mediating path remains statistically insignificant. (iv) Environmental management system certification exerts a more pronounced influence on green innovation performance in regions characterized by lower economic development. Moreover, it particularly stimulates exploratory green innovation performance, surpassing its impact on exploitative green innovation performance.

Abstract Pharmacologically-induced persistent hippocampal γ oscillation in area CA3 requires activation of α-Amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionate receptors (AMPARs). However, we demonstrated that exogenous AMPA dose-dependently inhibited carbachol (CCH)-induced γ oscillation in the CA3 area of rat hippocampal slices, but the underlying mechanism is not clear. Application of AMPARs antagonist NBQX (1 μM) did not affect γ oscillation power (γ power), nor AMPA-mediated γ power reduction. At 3 μM, NBQX had no effect on γ power but largely blocked AMPA-mediated γ power reduction. Ca2+-permeable AMPA receptor (CP-AMPAR) antagonist IEM1460 or CaMKK inhibitor STO-609 but not CaMKIIα inhibitor KN93 enhanced γ power, indicating that activation of CP-AMPAR or CaMKK negatively modulated CCH-induced γ oscillation. Either CP-AMPAR antagonist or CaMKK inhibitor alone did not affected AMPA-mediated γ power reduction, but co-administration of IEM1460 and NBQX (1 μM) largely prevented AMPA-mediated downregulation of γ suggesting that CP-AMPARs and CI-AMPARs are involved in AMPA downregulation of γ oscillation. The recurrent excitation recorded at CA3 stratum pyramidale was significantly reduced by AMPA application. Our results indicate that AMPA downregulation of γ oscillation may be related to the reduced recurrent excitation within CA3 local neuronal network due to rapid CI-AMPAR and CP-AMPAR activation.

Background and Purpose We performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to evaluate the causal effect of genetically proxied AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation, which is the target of metformin, on functional outcome following ischemic stroke onset. Methods A total of 44 AMPK-related variants associated with HbA1c (%) were used as instruments for AMPK activation. The primary outcome was the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 3 months following the onset of ischemic stroke, evaluated as a dichotomous variable (3–6 vs. 0–2) and subsequently as an ordinal variable. Summary-level data for the 3-month mRS were obtained from the Genetics of Ischemic Stroke Functional Outcome network, including 6,165 patients with ischemic stroke. The inverse-variance weighted method was used to obtain causal estimates. The alternative MR methods were used for sensitivity analysis. Results Genetically predicted AMPK activation was significantly associated with lower odds of poor functional outcome (mRS 3–6 vs. 0–2, odds ratio [OR]: 0.06, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.01–0.49, P=0.009). This association was maintained when 3-month mRS was analyzed as an ordinal variable. Similar results were observed in the sensitivity analyses, and there was no evidence of pleiotropy. Conclusion This MR study provided evidence that AMPK activation by metformin may exert beneficial effects on functional outcome following ischemic stroke.

Abstract Background Carbon and nitrogen are essential energy and nutrient substances in the composting process. Corn steep liquor (CSL) is rich in soluble carbon and nitrogen nutrients and active substances and is widely used in the biological industry. Nonetheless, limited research has been done on the effect of CSL on composting. This work firstly reveals the effect of adding CSL to bacterial community composition and carbon and nitrogen conversion during composting. This study provides the choice of auxiliary materials for the spent mushroom substrate compost (SMS) and some novel knowledge about the effect of bacterial community on C and N cycling during composting of SMS and CSL. Two treatments were set up in the experiment: 100% spent mushroom substrate (SMS) as CK and SMS + 0.5% CSL (v/v) as CP. Results The results showed that the addition of CSL enhanced the initial carbon and nitrogen content of the compost, altered the bacterial community structure, and increased the bacterial diversity and relative abundance, which might be beneficial to the conversion and retention of carbon and nitrogen in the composting process. In this paper, network analysis was used to screen the core bacteria involved in carbon and nitrogen conversion. In the CP network, the core bacteria were divided into two categories, synthesizing and degrading bacteria, and there were more synthesizing bacteria than degrading bacteria, so the degradation and synthesis of organic matter were carried out simultaneously, while only degrading bacteria were found in the CK network. Functional prediction by Faprotax identified 53 groups of functional bacteria, among which 20 (76.68% abundance) and 14 (13.15% abundance) groups of functional bacteria were related to carbon and nitrogen conversion, respectively. Adding CSL stimulated the compensatory effect of core and functional bacteria, enhanced the carbon and nitrogen transformation ability, stimulated the activity of low-abundance bacteria, and reduced the competitive relationship between the bacterial groups. This may be why the addition of CSL accelerated the organic matter degradation and increased carbon and nitrogen preservation. Conclusions These findings indicate that the addition of CSL promoted the cycling and preservation of carbon and nitrogen in the SMS composts, and the addition of CSL to the compost may be an effective way to dispose of agricultural waste.

Abstract Purpose To explore the effect of role reversal and standardized patient simulation on the training of new nurses. Method This study was conducted in a territory hospital in China between August 2021 and August 2022. The selected staff were all newly recruited and trained nurses, with a total of 58 cases. This study is a randomised controlled trial. The selected nurses were randomly divided into two groups. One group of 29 nurses (the control group) received routine training and assessment; the other group (the experimental group) was given role reversal combined with a standardized vertebral patient training examination. The implementation effects of different training and assessment methods were compared and analysed. Results Before the training, the core competence scores of nurses in the two groups were lower, and there was no significant data difference (P > 0.05). After training, the core competence scores of nurses were improved, and the score of nurses in the experimental group was 165.49 ± 22.34. Abstract Background Plant hemoglobin shows great potential as a food additive to circumvent the controversy of using animal materials. Microbial fermentation with engineered microorganisms is considered as a promising strategy for sustainable production of hemoglobin. As an endotoxin-free and GRAS (generally regarded as safe) bacterium, Corynebacterium glutamicum is an attractive host for hemoglobin biosynthesis. Results Herein, C. glutamicum was engineered to efficiently produce plant hemoglobin. Hemoglobin genes from different sources including soybean and maize were selected and subjected to codon optimization. Interestingly, some candidates optimized for the codon usage bias of Escherichia coli outperformed those for C. glutamicum regarding the heterologous expression in C. glutamicum. Then, saturated synonymous mutation of the N-terminal coding sequences of hemoglobin genes and fluorescence-based high-throughput screening produced variants with 1.66- to 3.45-fold increase in hemoglobin expression level. To avoid the use of toxic inducers, such as isopropyl-β-d-thiogalactopyranoside, two native inducible expression systems based on food additives propionate and gluconate were developed. Promoter engineering improved the hemoglobin expression level by 2.2- to 12.2-fold. Combination of these strategies and plasmid copy number modification allowed intracellular production of hemoglobin up to approximately 20% of total protein. Transcriptome and proteome analyses of the hemoglobin-producing strain revealed the cellular response to excess hemoglobin accumulation. Several genes were identified as potential targets for further enhancing hemoglobin production. Conclusions In this study, production of plant hemoglobin in C. glutamicum was systematically engineered by combining codon optimization, promoter engineering, plasmid copy number modification, and multi-omics-guided novel target discovery. This study offers useful design principles to genetically engineer C. glutamicum for the production of hemoglobin and other recombinant proteins.

Abstract Social dysfunction is the core syndrome of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and lacks effective medicine. Although numerous risk genes and relevant environmental factors have been identified, the convergent molecular mechanism underlying ASD‐associated social dysfunction remains largely elusive. Here, we report aberrant activation of canonical Wnt signaling and increased glycolysis in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC, a key brain region of social function) of two ASD mouse models (Shank3−/− and valproic acid‐treated mice) and their corresponding human neurons. Overexpressing β‐catenin in the ACC of wild‐type mice induces both glycolysis and social deficits. Suppressing glycolysis in ASD mice partially rescued synaptic and social phenotype. Axin2, a key inhibitory molecule in Wnt signaling, interacts with the glycolytic enzyme enolase 1 (ENO1) in ASD neurons. Surprisingly, an Axin2 stabilizer, XAV939, effectively blocked Axin2/ENO1 interaction, switched glycolysis/oxidative phosphorylation balance, promoted synaptic maturation, and rescued social function. These data revealed excessive neuronal Wnt‐glycolysis signaling as an important underlying mechanism for ASD synaptic deficiency, indicating Axin2 as a potential therapeutic target for social dysfunction.

Microplastics (MPs) are prevalent emerging pollutants in soil environments, acting as carriers for other contaminants and facilitating combined pollution along with toxic metals like cadmium (Cd). This interaction increases toxic effects and poses substantial threats to ecosystems and human health. The objective of this study was to investigate the hydrodynamic adsorption of Cd by conducting experiments where polystyrene microplastics (PS) and biochar (BC) coexisted across various particle sizes (10 µm, 20 µm, and 30 µm). Then, soil incubation experiments were set up under conditions of combined pollution, involving various concentrations (0.5 g·kg−1, 5 g·kg−1, 50 g·kg−1) and particle sizes of PS and BC to assess their synergistic effects on the soil environment. The results suggest that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.8642) provides a better description of the adsorption dynamics of Cd by PS and BC compared to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.7711), with an adsorption saturation time of 400 min. The Cd adsorption process in the presence of PS and BC is more accurately modeled using the Freundlich isotherm (R2 > 0.98), indicating the predominance of multilayer physical adsorption. The coexistence of 10 µm and 20 µm PS particles with BC enhanced Cd absorption, while 30 µm PS particles had an inhibitory effect. In soil incubation experiments, variations in PS particle size increased the exchangeable Cd speciation by 99.52% and decreased the residual speciation by 18.59%. The addition of microplastics notably impacted the exchangeable Cd speciation (p < 0.05), with smaller PS particles leading to more significant increases in the exchangeable content—showing respective increments of 45.90%, 106.96%, and 145.69%. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the mitigation mechanisms of biochar in the face of combined pollution from microplastics and heavy metals, offering theoretical support and valuable insights for managing such contamination scenarios.

The QXL87 live attenuated vaccine strain for infectious bronchitis represents the first approved QX type (GI-19 lineage) vaccine in China. This strain was derived from the parental strain CK/CH/JS/2010/12 through continuous passage in SPF chicken embryos. To elucidate the molecular mechanism behind its attenuation, whole-genome sequencing was conducted on both the parental and attenuated strains. Analysis revealed 145 nucleotide mutations in the attenuated strain, leading to 48 amino acid mutations in various proteins, including Nsp2 (26), Nsp3 (14), Nsp4 (1), S (4), 3a (1), E (1), and N (1). Additionally, a frameshift mutation caused by a single base insertion in the ORFX resulted in a six-amino-acid extension. Subsequent comparison of post-translational modification sites, protein structure, and protein–protein binding sites between the parental and attenuated strains identified three potential virulence genes: Nsp2, Nsp3, and S. The amino acid mutations in these proteins not only altered their conformation but also affected the distribution of post-translational modification sites and protein–protein interaction sites. Furthermore, three potential functional mutation sites—P106S, A352T, and L472F, all located in the Nsp2 protein—were identified through PROVEAN, PolyPhen, and I-Mutant. Overall, our findings suggest that Nsp2, Nsp3, and S proteins may play a role in modulating IBV pathogenicity, with a particular focus on the significance of the Nsp2 protein. This study contributes to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying IBV attenuation and holds promise for the development of safer live attenuated IBV vaccines using reverse genetic approaches.

With the rapid development of new energy vehicles and energy storage industries, the demand for lithium-ion batteries has surged, and the number of spent LIBs has also increased. Therefore, a new method for lithium selective extraction from spent lithium-ion battery cathode materials is proposed, aiming at more efficient recovery of valuable metals. The acid + oxidant leaching system was proposed for spent ternary positive electrode materials, which can achieve the selective and efficient extraction of lithium. In this study, 0.1 mol L−1 H2SO4 and 0.2 mol L−1 (NH4)2S2O8 were used as leaching acid and oxidant. The leaching efficiencies of Li, Ni, Co, and Mn were 98.7, 30, 3.5, and 0.1%, respectively. The lithium solution was obtained by adjusting the pH of the solution. Thermodynamic and kinetic studies of the lithium leaching process revealed that the apparent activation energy of the lithium leaching process is 46 kJ mol−1 and the rate step is the chemical reaction process. The leaching residue can be used as a ternary precursor to prepare regenerated positive electrode materials by solid-phase sintering. Electrochemical tests of the regenerated material proved that the material has good electrochemical properties. The highest discharge capacity exceeds 150 mAh g−1 at 0.2 C, and the capacity retention rate after 100 cycles exceeds 90%. The proposed new method can extract lithium from the ternary material with high selectivity and high efficiency, reducing its loss in the lengthy process. Lithium replenishment of the delithiation material can also restore its activity and realize the comprehensive utilization of elements such as nickel, cobalt, and manganese. The method combines the lithium recovery process and the material preparation process, simplifying the process and saving costs, thus providing new ideas for future method development.

Traditional lithium hydroxide production techniques, like lithium sulfate and lithium carbonate causticizing methods, suffer from drawbacks including high specific energy consumption, time-consuming processes, and low recovery rates. The conversion of lithium chloride to lithium hydroxide using bipolar membrane electrodialysis is straightforward; however, the influence of operational parameters on bipolar membrane electrodialysis performance have not been investigated. Herein, the impact of the current density (20 mA/cm2~80 mA/cm2), feed concentration (0.5 M~2.5 M), initial feed pH (2.5, 3.5 and 4.5), and the volume ratio of the feed and base solution (1:1, 2:1 and 3:1) on the current efficiency and specific energy consumption in the bipolar membrane electrodialysis was systematically investigated. The bipolar membrane electrodialysis process showed promising results under optimal conditions with a current density of 50 mA/cm2 and an initial lithium chloride concentration of 1.5 M. This process achieved a current efficiency of 75.86% with a specific energy consumption of 3.65 kwh/kg lithium hydroxide while also demonstrating a lithium hydroxide recovery rate exceeding 90% with a purity of about 95%. This work will provide valuable guidance for hands on implementation of bipolar membrane electrodialysis technology in the production of LiOH.

The cause and trend of color change and their links to oxidative properties were investigated by simulating shelf storage conditions for fragrant rapeseed oils (FROs). Under illumination, the L* value gradually increased with the storage time. The a* and b* values showed different trends depending on brands. The photodegradation rates of chlorophylls were 8.6 ∼ 15 times higher than those of carotenoids. The change in color of FROs was mainly caused by the light-induced photodegradation of chlorophyll. Compared with the hydroperoxides, the contents of some secondary oxidation products [i.e., 2-butenal, octane, (Z)-2-octene, 2,4-octadiene, (Z)-2-heptenal, (E, E)-2,4-heptadienal, and (E)-2-decenal] were more closely associated with the color variation with correlation coefficients of 0.6 ∼ 0.94. Significant negative correlation was found between α-tocopherol content and oil color difference. Therefore, illumination was the main reason for the color degradation of the FROs. The varying degree of color difference was strongly linked to the quality deterioration caused by oxidation.

In this study, algae present in wastewater were utilized as precursors for synthesizing a range of biochar (BC) samples to serve as efficient adsorbents for the removal of carbamazepine (CBZ). The impact of modification on BC, activated through the NaOH impregnation method (IBC), and the NaOH dry mixing-pyrolysis (DBC) method, was systematically explored. It was observed that only the surface of IBC became rough due to NaOH impregnation activation, while the DBC structure exhibited additional fine pores within its interior. Furthermore, after NaOH activation, a significant number of oxygen-containing functional groups were introduced onto the surface of the prepared BC samples, with the proportion of O species differing between the two NaOH activation methods. Based on the results from adsorption experiments and kinetic model simulation, CBZ adsorption by BC samples followed a monolayer homogeneous adsorption reaction with excellent pH tolerance, where H-bond (CO⋯H–N) was identified as the primary driving force. From an adsorption thermodynamics perspective, it is hypothesized that the high proportion of CO causes the ΔG value to shift from positive to negative, indicating that CBZ adsorption by DBC is a spontaneous reaction. Under optimal conditions, the DBC samples demonstrated an exceptional adsorption capacity, reaching 118.4 mg/g, with the removal rate of CBZ exceeding 99 %. This study offers theoretical insights into the preparation, modification, and adsorption mechanisms of BC-based adsorbents.

BackgroundThe fluctuation or even loss of estrogen level caused by menopause in women, and most gynecological cancers often occur before and after menopause, so the age of menopause may be related to the occurrence of gynecological cancer.AimTo investigate whether the age at menopause is independently associated with the incidence of gynecological cancers and to analyze the possible influencing factors.MethodsWe selected the NHANES public database to conduct the study, and by excluding relevant influencing factors, we finally included 5706 NHANES participants who had full data on age at menopause and the occurrence of gynecologic cancers to analyze the relationship between the amount of age at menopause and gynecologic cancers based on univariate or multifactorial logistic regression analysis. Further, the relationship between age at menopause and the prevalence of different gynecologic cancers was investigated, and changes in the prevalence of different gynecologic cancers by age at menopause subgroups were observed. Finally, other relevant factors affecting the prevalence of gynecologic cancers were further investigated by subgroup analysis as well as subcluster analysis.ResultsUnivariate logistic regression analysis between age at menopause and gynecologic tumor prevalence revealed a negative association between age at menopause and the prevalence of common gynecologic cancers ovarian and cervical cancer, and after adjusting for the effects of covariates, a higher risk of gynecologic tumors was found with statistically significant differences at earlier age at menopause. This study integrates the elaboration likelihood model, institutional theory, and the image management perspective to identify the internal and external forces that can effectively drive firms to adopt a green supply chain. Using survey data from a sample of 246 firms in the Chinese manufacturing sector, we empirically examine how the internal green process and green product innovation of firms and different types of external institutional pressures contribute to their adoption of a green supply chain, which in turn can explain the variation in their environmental and new-product development performance. Results of our structural equation modeling analysis reveal that the internal green process and green product innovation of firms and three types of external institutional pressures (i.e., coercive, normative, and mimetic pressures) play an important role in driving green supply chain adoption. Moreover, firms can improve their environmental and new-product development performance by adopting a green supply chain. In addition, though the image management motivation of firms tends to play a negative moderating role in the relationship between their green process innovation and green supply chain adoption, such motivation positively moderates the contribution of coercive pressure to their green supply chain adoption. Our findings can help explain why emerging-market firms tend to adopt a green supply chain and do not follow the pattern predicted by classical strategic management theories. The results of our study clearly demonstrate the determinants and consequences of the adoption of a green supply chain of firms and confirm that their green supply chain adoption can exert a positive effect on their environmental and new-product development performance. Overall, our research highlights the importance of recognizing internal innovation and external institutional forces in driving the green supply chain adoption of firms, which in turn will contribute to their environmental and new-product development performance. In this regard, our study extends the stream of research on green supply chains and sheds new light on the importance of abandoning the conventional supply chain and adopting a green one. Our study also provides important implications for research, practice, and policymaking.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to understand the feelings and experiences of the main caregivers of temporary ostomy patien ts with Crohn's disease (CD). And explore the caregivers' inner feelings, to provide reference and basis for constructing the health education content of the main caregivers of CD patients with a temporary stoma. Methods: A qualitative descriptive approach was used to conduct an unstructured interview among 11 primary caregivers of CD patients with temporary enterostomy from the gastroenterology department of The Second Hospital of Nanjing. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected between July 2021 and September 2021. The interviews were audio recorded and then transcribed for a qualitative thematic analysis. Results: Five themes and accompanying subthemes were identified: (1) negative psychological experience (2) perceived caregiver burden (3) future uncertainty (4) disease benefit (5) insufficien support system. Conclusions: Study findings suggest that caregivers of CD temporary enterostomy patients have problems such as negative psychology, heavy caregiver burden, uncertain future, lack of support system, etc., but they also have positive experience of feeling of benefit from the disease, and are eager to obtain more disease information from more channels.Therefore, medical staff should improve their professionalism and health education capabilities, carry out diversified and targeted health education activities to reduce the burden of care, stimulate positive caregiver responses and help caregivers respond to and deal with caregiving problems in a timely and accurate manner.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is characterized by its high malignancy, generally exhibits poor response to immunotherapy. As part of the tumor microenvironment, basement membranes (BMs) are involved in tumor development and immune activities. Presently, there is no integrated analysis linking the basement membrane with immune checkpoints, especially from the perspective of lncRNA. Methods: Based on transcriptome data from The Cancer Genome Atlas, BMs-related and immune checkpoint-related lncRNAs were identified. By applying univariable Cox regression and Machine learning (LASSO and SVM-RFE algorithm), a 10-lncRNA prognosis signature was constructed. The prognostic significance of this signature was assessed by survival analysis. GSEA, ssGSEA, and drug sensitivity analysis were conducted to investigate potential functional pathways, immune status, and clinical implications of guiding individual treatments in HCC. Finally, the promoting migration effect of LINC01224 was validated via in vitro experiments. Results: The multiple Cox regression, receiver operating characteristic curves, and stratified survival analysis of clinical subgroups exhibited the robust prognostic ability of the lncRNA signature. Results of the GSEA and drug sensitivity analysis revealed significant differences in potential functional pathways and response to drugs between the two risk groups. Abstract Background Intrafibrillar remineralization within the hybrid layers (HLs) has recently attracted extensive attention in achieving durable resin-dentin bonds. The polyhydroxy-terminated poly(amidoamine) dendrimer (PAMAM-OH) at fourth generation becomes a desirable candidate to induce intrafibrillar remineralization to protect exposed collagen fibrils within HLs based on the size exclusion effect of fibrillar collagen. However, the remineralization process in vivo is time-consuming, during which the exposed collagen fibrils are vulnerable to enzymatic degradation, resulting in unsatisfactory remineralization. Thereby, if PAMAM-OH itself possesses concomitant anti-proteolytic activity during the induction of remineralization, it would be very beneficial to obtain satisfactory remineralization. Methods Binding capacity tests using adsorption isotherm and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) were performed to assess if the PAMAM-OH had adsorption capacity on dentin. Anti-proteolytic testings were detected by MMPs assay kit, in-situ zymography and ICTP assay. Adhesive infiltration of resin-dentin interface and tensile bond strength before and after thermomechanical cycling were implemented to assess if the PAMAM-OH adversely affected resin-dentin bonds. Results Anti-proteolytic testings performed using MMPs assay kit, in-situ zymography and ICTP assay indicated that PAMAM-OH inhibited exogenous soluble MMP-9 as well as had inhibitory effect on the endogenous proteases. Adhesive infiltration of resin-dentin interface and tensile bond strength before and after thermomechanical cycling were implemented to indicate that the PAMAM-OH pretreatment had no adverse effects on immediate dentin bonding and prolonged the durability of resin-dentin bonds. Conclusions PAMAM-OH possesses anti-proteolytic activity and prevents exposed collagen fibrils within HLs from degradation, which lays the foundation for the satisfactory intrafibrillar remineralization induced by PAMAM-OH within HLs to achieve durable resin-dentin bonds in the next work.

In this paper, the effect of TB2 additions on a noval Al–Mg–Sc alloy was studied, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of SLM-fabricated TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloys were investigated. The results showed that molten pool width increased and molten pool depth slightly decreased with TiB2 increase, due to the laser absorptivity of the TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloys higher than that of Al–Mg–Sc alloy under the same process parameters. The microstructure of SLM-fabricated TiB2Al–Mg–Sc alloys were composed of fine-grained, coarse-grained and columnar-grained regions, and the fine-grained region increased with the increase of TiB2 content. The recrystallization regions in SLM-fabricated TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloy decreased with the increase of TiB2 content, and TiB2 additions used as heterogeneous nucleation to refine grains, which can pin grain boundaries and prevent recrystallization during SLM process. TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloy with 1% TiB2 additions showed a relatively higher comprehensive mechanical properties, and the tensile strength is 483 MPa, the elongation is 15.8%. Tensile strength of 1%TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloy was increased by 37 MPa and the elongation is also increased by 2.1% compared with 0%TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloy, and 2%TiB2/Al–Mg–Sc alloy shown a relatively lower comprehensive mechanical properties due to its lower density and TB2 agglomerated.

The thermal infrared sensor-2 (TIRS-2) carried on Landsat 9 is the newest thermal infrared (TIR) sensor for the Landsat project and provides two adjacent TIR bands, which greatly benefits the land surface temperature (LST) retrieval at high spatial resolution. In this article, a radiance based split window (RBSW) algorithm for retrieving LST from Landsat 9 TIRS-2 data was proposed. In addition, the split-window covariance-variance ratio (SWCVR) algorithm was improved and applied to Landsat 9 TIRS-2 data for estimating atmospheric water vapor (AWV) that is required for accurate LST retrieval. The performance of the proposed method was assessed using the simulation data and satellite observations. Results reveal that the retrieved LST using the RBSW algorithm has a bias of 0.06 K and root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.51 K based on validation with the simulation data. Abstract Background Irregular hematoma is considered as a risk sign of hematoma expansion. The aim of this study was to quantify hematoma irregularity with computed tomography based on 3D Slicer. Methods Patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage who underwent an initial and subsequent non-contrast computed tomography (CT) at a single medical center between January 2019 to January 2020 were retrospectively identified. The Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) standard images were loaded into the 3D Slicer, and the surface area (S) and volume (V) of hematoma were calculated. The hematoma irregularity index (HII) was defined as $$\frac{\sqrt{S/\pi}}2/\sqrt[3]{3V/4\pi}\times100$$ S / π 2 / 3 V / 4 π 3 × 100 . Logistic regression analyses and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed to assess predictive performance of HII. In this work, heterostructured duplex stainless steel consisting of fine-grained austenite and bimodal-grained ferrite was prepared by heavy cold rolling and 2-min annealing at 1050 °C. The tailored steel achieved an excellent combination of high strength with a yield stress of ∼710 MPa and high ductility with a tensile elongation of ∼43%. The results revealed that the plastic incompatibilities between the constituent phases arising from the microstructural heterogeneity contributed to the significant partitioning of plastic strain, and the respectable strength–ductility synergy was attributed to hetero-deformation induced strengthening and strain hardening.

Heme is an important tetrapyrrole compound, and has been widely applied in food and medicine industries. Although microbial production of heme has been developed with metabolic engineering strategies during the past 20 years, the production levels are relatively low due to the multistep enzymatic processes and complicated regulatory mechanisms of microbes. Previous studies mainly adopted the strategies of strengthening precursor supply and product transportation to engineer microbes for improving heme biosynthesis. Few studies focused on the engineering and screening of efficient enzymes involved in heme biosynthesis. Herein, a growth-coupled, high-throughput selection platform based on the detoxification of Zinc-protoporphyrin IX (an analogue of heme) was developed and applied to directed evolution of coproporphyrin ferrochelatase, catalyzing the insertion of metal ions into porphyrin ring to generate heme or other tetrapyrrole compounds. A mutant with 3.03-fold increase in kcat/KM was selected. Finally, growth-coupled directed evolution of another three key enzymes involved in heme biosynthesis was tested by using this selection platform. The growth-coupled selection platform developed here can be a simple and effective strategy for directed evolution of the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of heme or other tetrapyrrole compounds.

This study examined the impact of cognitive style congruence between leaders and followers on followers' organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) by integrating the similarity-attraction and signaling theories. We collected dyadic data from 80 leaders and 223 followers in ten manufacturing companies in China. Using polynomial regression analysis and response surface modeling, the study supported the positive influence of cognitive style congruence on followers' OCBs. Specifically, we found that dyads with more intuitive than analytical leader-follower cognitive styles had higher levels of OCBs. However, there were no significant differences in followers' OCBs between dyads consisting of an intuitive leader and an analytic follower versus those consisting of an analytic leader and an intuitive follower under conditions of cognitive style incongruence. Additionally, the study found that interpersonal trust mediated the relationship between leader-follower cognitive style congruence and followers' OCBs, offering valuable insights for promoting OCBs in the workplace.

Objective: Seseli mairei Wolff extracts (SMWE) are widely used to treat psoriasis as a Chinese medicine, but their effect and mechanism are unclear. This study verified the effect of SMWE on psoriasis by regulating Th17 cells. Methods: HaCaT cells were treated with IL-17A in vitro to evaluate the effect of SMWE on psoriasis. In vivo, the mice psoriasis model was established using imiquimod (IMQ, 62.5 mg/d), and intragastrically treated with the different drugs for six days. The severity of skin inflammation was evaluated with Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores and pathology. The levels of inflammation cytokines were assessed with immunofluorescence, immunochemistry, ELISA, and real-time PCR. The number of Th17 cells was determined with flows. Results: SMWE inhibited the proliferation of HaCaT cells and reduced the IL-17A-induced IL-6 production in vitro. In vivo, SMWE deduced the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-22, IL-23, and TNF-α, while increasing the level of IL-10 compared to the model group. SMWE also inhibited the levels of NF-κB, JAK2, and STAT3 proteins, while declining the expressions of Gr-1, and MPO. Interestingly, SMWE significantly decreased the number of Th17 cells. Conclusion: SMWE inhibited the proliferation of HaCaT cells and attenuated the development of psoriasis lesions by inhibiting Th17 cells to regulate the levels of inflammation cytokines.

In this paper, berberine hydrochloride-loaded liposomes-in-gel were designed and developed to investigate their antioxidant properties and therapeutic effects on the eczema model of the mouse. Berberine hydrochloride-liposomes (BBH-L) as the nanoparticles were prepared by the thin-film hydration method and then dispersed BBH-L evenly in the gel matrix to prepare the berberine hydrochloride liposomes-gel (BBH-L-Gel) by the natural swelling method. Their antioxidant capacity was investigated by the free radical scavenging ability on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and H2O2 and the inhibition of lipid peroxides malondialdehyde (MDA). An eczema model was established, and the efficacy of the eczema treatment was preliminarily evaluated using ear swelling, the spleen index, and pathological sections as indicators. The results indicate that the entrapment efficiency of BBH-L prepared by the thin-film hydration method was 78.56% ± 0.7%, with a particle size of 155.4 ± 9.3 nm. For BBH-L-Gel, the viscosity and pH were 18.16 ± 6.34 m Pas and 7.32 ± 0.08, respectively. The cumulative release in the unit area of the in vitro transdermal study was 85.01 ± 4.53 μg/cm2. BBH-L-Gel had a good scavenging capacity on DPPH and H2O2, and it could effectively inhibit the production of hepatic lipid peroxides MDA in the concentration range of 0.4–2.0 mg/mL. The topical application of BBH-L-Gel could effectively alleviate eczema symptoms and reduce oxidative stress injury in mice. This study demonstrates that BBH-L-Gel has good skin permeability, excellent sustained release, and antioxidant capabilities. They can effectively alleviate the itching, inflammation, and allergic symptoms caused by eczema, providing a new strategy for clinical applications in eczema treatment.

Change detection (CD) stands out as a pivotal yet challenging task in the interpretation of remote sensing images. Significant developments have been witnessed, particularly with the rapid advancements in deep learning techniques. Nevertheless, challenges such as incomplete detection targets and unsmooth boundaries remain as most CD methods suffer from ineffective feature fusion. Therefore, this paper presents a multi-scale gated fusion network (MSGFNet) to improve the accuracy of CD results. To effectively extract bi-temporal features, the EfficientNetB4 model based on a Siamese network is employed. Subsequently, we propose a multi-scale gated fusion module (MSGFM) that comprises a multi-scale progressive fusion (MSPF) unit and a gated weight adaptive fusion (GWAF) unit, aimed at fusing bi-temporal multi-scale features to maintain boundary details and detect completely changed targets. Finally, we use the simple yet efficient UNet structure to recover the feature maps and predict results. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the MSGFNet, the LEVIR-CD, WHU-CD, and SYSU-CD datasets were utilized, and the MSGFNet achieved F1 scores of 90.86%, 92.46%, and 80.39% on the three datasets, respectively. Furthermore, the low computational costs and small model size have validated the superior performance of the MSGFNet.

The solar wind deceleration upstream of the Martian bow shock is examined using particle and magnetic field measurements obtained by the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN). Mars lacks a strong intrinsic magnetic field so its upper atmosphere extends beyond the Martian bow shock and interacts directly with the solar wind. Neutral atoms in the Martian upper atmosphere can be ionized through several physical processes and then start to move with the solar wind flow to form pickup ions. In return, the solar wind is expected to slow down due to the momentum transfer to the pickup ions. The present study surveys the MAVEN solar wind measurements between 2015 and 2019 to evaluate the solar wind deceleration upstream of the Martian bow shock. Different from previous studies of solar wind deceleration, our analysis carefully excludes the solar wind deceleration in the shock foot region. The average solar wind deceleration obtained is about 0.7% of the initial solar wind speed, much smaller than the values given by previous studies. Further calculation using several reasonable Martian upper atmosphere density profiles demonstrates that the deceleration observed is consistent with the pickup ion mass-loading scenario.

Abstract Linear instability analysis as well as a corresponding two‐dimensional hybrid simulation are performed to examine the excitation of the proton cyclotron waves observed upstream of Mars. The waves are believed to be excited by the pickup ions produced from the ionization of the Martian hydrogen exosphere. And previous statistical analysis of wave observations suggested that the waves are mostly related to pickup ion beam velocity distributions. While earlier linear instability analysis of pickup ion beam distributions has mainly been focused on the parallel unstable modes, our analysis reveals that the maximum growth rate occurs at very oblique propagation. The corresponding hybrid simulation confirms the linear analysis results and further demonstrates that the pickup ions are scattered toward an isotropic shell velocity distribution by the waves excited. Interestingly, the waves at oblique propagation gradually damp out and the system is eventually dominated by waves of quasi‐parallel propagation.

Due to the increasing rate of economic development and the increasingly serious problem of environmental degradation, environmental information disclosure has become an important basis for promoting carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and an important way for enterprises to carry out green governance to achieve sustainable development. This study uses empirical research methods to analyze the relationship between environmental information disclosure and corporate sustainable growth in the context of green governance using panel data of Chinese A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2012 to 2021. The empirical tests conclude that there is a U-shaped relationship between environmental information disclosure and corporate sustainable growth, which decreases and then increases, and the U-shaped relationship is transmitted through innovation inputs. The U-shaped relationship between environmental information disclosure and corporate sustainable growth is weakened by firm size and enhanced by equity incentives. In addition, further group analysis reveals that the above U-shaped relationship is more significant in non-state enterprises than in state-owned enterprises.

Objective: To assess the associations between self-efficacy, nutrition literacy and eating behavior, and to examine if nutrition literacy mediates the relationship between self-efficacy and eating behavior in young tuberculosis patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study used a convenience sampling strategy to select 230 young tuberculosis patients at the Second Hospital of Nanjing (Public Health Medical Center of Nanjing), China, from June 2022 to August 2022. The data were collected using a demographic data form, the Eating Behavior Scale, the Food and Nutrition Literacy Questionnaire and the Tuberculosis Self-Efficacy Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson bivariate correlation analysis, Pearson partial correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression, and mediation analysis were conducted in the study. Results: The mean self-efficacy score for young tuberculosis patients was 92.56 (SD = 9.89, range = 21 ∼ 105). The average nutrition literacy score for young tuberculosis patients was 68.24（SD = 6.75, range = 0 ∼ 100). IntroductionThe presence of linezolid-resistant enterococci found in animal-derived food has attracted attention for possible transmission to human-derived enterococci through the food chain. Linezolid-resistant enterococci in farms have been widely reported, but enterococci carrying antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes poxtA, optrA, or cfr(D) in slaughterhouse environments have not been well addressed.MethodsEnterococcus was isolated from the samples collected from two slaughterhouses in Hangzhou, and the Enterococcus carrying linezolidin-resistant genes was identified by PCR. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the Enterococcus carrying linezolidin-resistant genes was determined by microbroth dilution method. Finally, the whole genome of strains carrying two or more linezoline resistance genes was sequenced using the Oxford Nanopore TechnologyResultsHere, 291 enterococci strains were isolated from 309 samples (94.17%). A total of 4 poxtA-positive enterococci and 42 optrA-positive enterococci were identified based on PCR. The antimicrobial susceptibility test showed that the highest rate of florfenicol resistance was 97.82% and the rate of multidrug resistance (MDR) was 95.65%. Two strains carried multiple linezolid resistance genes, among which Enterococcus casseliflavus CQFYY22-063 cocarrying optrA, poxtA, and cfr(D) was isolated from the duck cecum, and Enterococcus faecium CQFYH22-006 cocarrying optrA and poxtA was isolated from slaughterhouse sewage for the first time. Furthermore, Oxford Nanopore Technology revealed that the optrA gene of strain CQFYY22-063 was located on the Inc18-type plasmid pFYY063-optrA-70K, and the poxtA and cfr(D) genes were located on the Inc18-type plasmid pFYY063- poxtA-12K. Meanwhile, the poxtA gene of strain CQFYH22-006 was located on the Rep3-type plasmid pFYH006-poxtA-25K, and the optrA gene was located on the chromosome.DiscussionTogether, linezolid resistance in slaughterhouses deserves extensive attention, indicating the need to strengthen the monitoring of different links in the food production chain within the One Health concept.

In this work, emulsion-filled gels were prepared from natural and pH-shifting combined with ultrasound β-conglycinin (7S) as emulsifiers. The emulsifier modification and emulsion concentrations (5, 10, 15, 20 wt%) were evaluated on the structural and β-carotene release properties of the gels. Compared to the 7S hydrogel, the emulsion-filled gels exhibited better water-holding and textural properties. The 7S modification and the increase in emulsion concentration resulted in altered water distribution and improved microstructure and rheological properties of the emulsion-filled gels. The dense and homogeneous gel network was formed at an emulsion content of 15 wt%. The gels were regulated by different release kinetics in a simulated gastrointestinal environment. M−15 showed the highest bioaccessibility and chemical stability (72.25% and 89.87%) with good slow-release properties of β-carotene. These results will guide the development of encapsulated delivery systems for gel food products.

Pregnancy exposure of valproic acid (VPA) is widely adopted as a model of environmental factor induced autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Increase of excitatory/inhibitory synaptic transmission ratio has been proposed as the mechanism of VPA induced ASD. How this happened, particularly at the level of excitatory neuron differentiation in human neural progenitor cells (NPCs) remains largely unclear. Here, we report that VPA exposure remarkably inhibited human NPC proliferation and induced excitatory neuronal differentiation without affecting inhibitory neurons. Following VPA treatment, mitochondrial dysfunction was observed before neuronal differentiation, as showed by ultrastructural changes, respiratory complex activity, mitochondrial membrane potential and oxidation levels. Meanwhile, extracellular acidification assay revealed an elevation of glycolysis by VPA stimulation. Interestingly, inhibiting glycolysis by 2-deoxy-d-glucose-6-phosphate (2-DG) efficiently blocked the excitatory neuronal differentiation of human NPCs induced by VPA. Furthermore, 2-DG treatment significantly compromised the VPA-induced expression of H3ac and H3K9ac, and the VPA-induced binding of H3K9ac on the promoter of Ngn2 and Mash1, two key transcription factors of excitatory neuron fate determination. These data, for the first time, demonstrated that VPA biased excitatory neuron differentiation by glycolysis-mediated histone acetylation of neuron specific transcription factors.

Abstract Background Medical and nursing students’ attitudes toward mental disorders have a large impact on their working intentions in mental health settings and patients’ health outcomes. However, there are few studies about the stigma toward mental disorders among medical and nursing students in China. Methods In this cross-sectional study, a total of 838 medical and nursing students completed questionnaires on their sociodemographic characteristics and familiarity with people diagnosed with mental disorders as well as the Community Attitudes toward Mental Illness Scale (CAMI). The stigma was compared between medical students and nursing students by ANOVA. A multiple logistic regression model was built to explore the relationships among sociodemographic characteristics, familiarity with mental disorders and stigma. Results The total mean score of the CAMI was 137.61 (SD = 15.63). The score for authoritarianism (M = 33.33, SD = 3.62) was the lowest score of the four subscales. Medical students showed more positive attitudes toward mental disorders than nursing students. However, after controlling the co-variables, the difference disappeared. Stigma was significantly associated with students’ education, area of residence, marital status, economic status, history of mental disorders and familiarity with mental disorders. Conclusions Medical and nursing students show a negative attitude toward mental illness to a certain degree, especially regarding the view that people with mental disorders are inferior. Higher education level, residence in urban areas, single marital status, better economic status, and better familiarity with mental disorders may be related to less stigma among medical and nursing students.

Abstract As the modulation of serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 3 (SRSF3) may be therapeutically beneficial to colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment, the identification of novel SRSF3 inhibitors is highly anticipated. However, pharmaceutical agents targeting SRSF3 have not yet been discovered. Here, we propose a functional SRSF3 inhibitor for CRC therapy and elucidate its antitumor mechanisms. We found high expression of SRSF3 in 70.6% CRC tissues. Silencing SRSF3 markedly inhibits the proliferation and migration of CRC cells through suppression of its target gene 24-dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR24). This is evidenced by the links between SRSF3 and DHCR24 in CRC tissues. The novel SRSF3 inhibitor SFI003 exhibits potent antitumor efficacy in vitro and in vivo, which drives apoptosis of CRC cells via the SRSF3/DHCR24/reactive oxygen species (ROS) axis. Moreover, SFI003 is druggable with suitable pharmacokinetic properties, bioavailability, and tumor distribution. Thus, SRSF3 is a novel potential therapeutic target for CRC. Its inhibitor SFI003 may be developed as an anticancer therapeutic.

Abstract Aim The objective of this study was to evaluate the reported associations between the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) and a variety of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) through analysis of the reports extracted from the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). Methods FAERS reports from January 2004 to March 2020 were used to conduct disproportionality and Bayesian analyses. The definition of SIADH relied on the preferred terms provided by the Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities. The time to onset, mortality, and hospitalization rates of PPI-related SIADH were also investigated. Results The study identified a total of 273 reports of PPI-associated SIADH, which appeared to influence more elderly than middle-aged patients (71.1% vs. 12.5%). Women were more affected than men (48.7% vs. 41.8%). Rabeprazole had a stronger SIADH association than other PPIs based on the highest reporting odds ratio (reporting odds ratio = 13.3, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 7.2, 24.9), proportional reporting ratio (proportional reporting ratio = 13.3, χ2 = 113.7), and empirical Bayes geometric mean (empirical Bayes geometric mean = 13.3, 95% CI = 7.9). The median time to SIADH onset was 22 (interquartile range 6–692) days after PPI administration. PPI-associated SIADH generally led to a 2.95% fatality rate and a 79.7% hospitalization rate. The highest hospitalization death rate occurred in esomeprazole (91.2%). Conclusion According to our findings, more attention should be paid to SIADH within the first several months after the administration of PPIs. For women older than 65 years, dexlansoprazole may reduce the incidence of PPI-associated SIADH. Nonetheless, larger epidemiological studies are suggested to verify this conclusion.
