Introducción: Los huertos clonales incrementan la ganancia genética, generalmente se establecen con injertos. En pinos, la compatibilidad genética púa-patrón podría mejorar la producción de planta injertada.Objetivos: Evaluar la compatibilidad entre púa y portainjerto de Pinus patula Schiede ex Schltdl. & Cham. en respuesta a la variación genotípica.Materiales y métodos: Se injertaron púas de cuatro genotipos sobresalientes (G105, G106, G114 y G115) sobre patrones de las mismas familias de medios hermanos (F105, F106, F114 y F115) en todas sus combinaciones con el diseño bloques completos al azar. Se evaluó prendimiento, supervivencia, desarrollo de acículas y crecimiento en longitud y diámetro del injerto.Resultados y discusión: El análisis de varianza indicó que el prendimiento de los injertos varió de 70 a 82.5 %; el efecto fue significativo solo en el factor genotipo de la púa (P < 0.0001), siendo mayor con el G115. La interacción genotipo*familia tuvo efecto significativo (P < 0.0001) en la supervivencia del injerto; las mejores combinaciones fueron G115 + F114 (85 %), G114 + F105 (80 %), G115 + F105 (75 %) y G115 + F106 (75 %). El G105 (26 cm) y G115 (2 mm) mostraron los valores más altos (P < 0.05) en el crecimiento en longitud y diámetro, respectivamente. A los cinco meses, todos los injertos desarrollaron acículas.Conclusiones: Los injertos realizados con el genotipo G115 y familia F105, en combinación con cualquier familia o genotipo, fueron los más exitosos. Las púas y patrones del mismo genotipo o familia no favorecieron la compatibilidad de los injertos en P. patula.

The tyrosine kinase inhibitor dasatinib is approved for Philadelphia chromosome–positive leukemia, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Although effective and well tolerated, patients typically exhibit a transient lymphocytosis after dasatinib uptake. To date, the underlying physiological process linking dasatinib to lymphocytosis remains unknown. Here, we used a small rodent model to examine the mechanism of dasatinib-induced lymphocytosis, focusing on lymphocyte trafficking into and out of secondary lymphoid organs. Our data indicate that lymphocyte homing to lymph nodes and spleen remained unaffected by dasatinib treatment. In contrast, dasatinib promoted lymphocyte egress from spleen with kinetics consistent with the observed lymphocytosis. Unexpectedly, dasatinib-induced lymphocyte egress occurred independently of canonical sphingosine-1-phosphate–mediated egress signals; instead, dasatinib treatment led to a decrease in spleen size, concomitant with increased splenic stromal cell contractility, as measured by myosin light chain phosphorylation. Accordingly, dasatinib-induced lymphocytosis was partially reversed by pharmacological inhibition of the contraction-promoting factor Rho-rho associated kinase. Finally, we uncovered a decrease in spleen size in patients with CML who showed lymphocytosis immediately after dasatinib treatment, and this reduction was proportional to the magnitude of lymphocytosis and dasatinib plasma levels. In summary, our work provides evidence that dasatinib-induced lymphocytosis is a consequence of drug-induced contractility of splenic stromal cells.

Beliefs about emotion utility can influence adults’ motivation to endorse positive or negative emotion goals (i.e., desired emotional responses) depending on the context. Endorsing flexible emotion goals is key for appropriate emotion regulation. Despite their relevance, emotion goals have been overlooked in children and adolescents. We conducted three studies evaluating children’s, adolescents’ and adults’ contextualised happiness and anger goals and their beliefs about utility in contexts of collaboration and confrontation. Results of Studies 1 and 2 showed that children were less motivated by and found anger less useful in confrontation. The link beween emotion goals and beliefs about emotion utility was stronger in adults and adolescents. Study 3 showed that children’s emotion goals differed from their emotion expectations, ruling out expectations as a possible explanation of the findings in Studies 1 and 2. These results suggest that the instrumentality or context-sensitivity of emotions may be acquired during development.

Grafting in species of Pinus is used to establish asexual seed orchards. Generally, grafting success is low, therefore, it is required to study the influencing factors. Such as the technique and the contact surface of the cambium that depends on the length of the cut on the scion and the rootstock. The objective of this study was to evaluate graft success, growth, and needle development on Pinus patula grafts as functions of the grafting technique and cutting length. It was expected that a specific combination of technique and cutting length would allow predicting the graft success. The techniques of top cleft, side-veneer and splice grafting were used with three cutting lengths (1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 cm) in a completely randomized design with factorial array. The data were analysed with an analysis of variance and treatment means were compared with the Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05). Sixty days after grafting, technique influenced success; top cleft grafting had the highest value (80%) but was not statistically different from side veneer grafting (73.3%). There was, however, statistical difference between top cleft and splice grafting (56.7%, p ≤ 0.05). There were no differences among the three cutting lengths in terms of the three variables evaluated. The effect of the interaction showed that top cleft and side veneer grafts with the cutting length of 1.5 cm expressed the greatest growth (32.4 and 32.2 mm, respectively); followed by side veneer grafting with the cutting length of 2.0 cm (30.4). The study demonstrated that the most viable techniques to increase grafting success in P. patula are the top cleft and side veneer techniques. Cutting length of the scion and the rootstock can be set within the range 1.5 to 2.5 cm

Synchronization between female receptiveness and pollen dispersal, and fecundity of clones influence effective population size and genetic diversity of germplasm produced in seed orchards. Our objective was to determine clonal variation in phenological synchronization and in cone production in a Pinus patula seed orchard. Two-year phenology data of female and male strobili from a sample of 31 clones, and of male strobili in trees from neighboring natural stands of the same species were used. Synchronization indices between female receptiveness and pollen release of the same clone (O̅iP̅i), of other clones (O̅i P̅j), and of natural stands (O̅i P̅NS) were calculated for each clone and averaged per precocity group (early, intermediate, and late). Genetic parameters for cone production of clones during three consecutive cone harvests were estimated, as was their relationship to precocity and synchronization index O̅i P̅NS. Cone production showed a broad variation among clones and between years, with strong genetic control (H2c ≥ 0.80) and stable (rB ≥ 0.79) between yeas. There was wide clonal variation in synchronization indices, but no significant variation was found in most cases among precocity groups, neither were they consistent between years. Negative correlations [rp = -0.37 and -0.40 (P < 0.05)] in cone production per clone in two years with the O̅i P̅NS index in the first year, indicated that the most prolific clones had lower synchronization with pollen release in natural stands in the orchard’s vicinity, and thus less risk of genetic contamination.

Gliomas are the deadliest of all primary brain tumors, and they constitute a serious global health problem. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are gene expression regulators associated with glioma pathogenesis. Thus, miRNAs represent potential therapeutic agents for treating gliomas. However, miRNAs have not been established as part of the regular clinical armamentarium. This systemic review evaluates current molecular and pre-clinical studies with the aim of defining the most appealing supramolecular platform for administering therapeutic miRNA to patients with gliomas. An integrated analysis suggested that cationic lipid nanoparticles, functionalized with octa-arginine peptides, represent a potentially specific, practical, non-invasive intervention for treating gliomas. This supramolecular platform allows loading both hydrophilic (miRNA) and hydrophobic (anti-tumor drugs, like temozolomide) molecules. This systemic review is the first to describe miRNA delivery systems targeted to gliomas that integrate several types of molecules as active ingredients. Further experimental validation is warranted to confirm the practical value of miRNA delivery systems.

colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most frequent tumors in terms of incidence and mortality. Several elements, both inherited and environmental, have been related with its pathogenesis.to analyze the influence of age, gender and nutritional factors on the diagnosis of colonic polyps and CRC.a prospective, descriptive study over outpatients from the Health Area of León who took a colonoscopy between 09/09/2012 and 06/30/2013. Patients were asked to fill a semiquantitative food frecuency questionnaire with data such a sociodemographic, toxic and dietetic facts. Differences in diagnosis according to sociodemographic and hygiene-dietetic data were analyzed with a multivariate analysis by forward stepwise logistic regression.data were collected from 1390 patients. Mean age was 57.88 (15.17) years and 47.8 % were male. CRC was diagnosed in 5 % of colonoscopies, and polyps in 20.4 %, with 9.4 % of them being HRA. Risk of polyps and HRA was higher in males (26.9 % vs 14.5 %) and (12.6 % vs 6.3 %), respectively (p0.001). Mean age was significantly higher in patients who presented polyps (56.51 (15.45) vs 63.22 (12.69) years; p0.001). Among the group who reported intake of smoked and salted food, the risk of polyps doubled (2.9 % vs 6.7 %, p = 0.002). In relation to alcohol intake we found that subjects with daily alcohol consumption showed a higher incidence of polyps whe compared to occasional drinkers and teetotallers (32 % vs 20 % vs 18.6 %, p = 0.002) Conclusions: age correlated with higher risk of polyps, HRA and CRC. Moreover, male gender also was associated with a high risk of polyps and HRA. Alcohol and red and processed meat intake increased polyp risk.

We present the case of a 77-year-old male patient with iron deficiency anemia. His personal medical history is: dyslipidemia, high-grade diffuse centrofollicular lymphoma localized in the tonsil in 1984 and metastatic prostate cancer treated with hormone therapy.

Inhibition of the heterodimeric amino acid carrier SLC7A5/SLC3A2 (LAT1/CD98) has been widely studied in tumor biology but its role in physiological conditions remains largely unknown. Here we show that the SLC7A5/SLC3A2 heterodimer is constitutively present at different stages of erythroid differentiation but absent in mature erythrocytes. Administration of erythropoietin (EPO) further induces SLC7A5/SLC3A2 expression in circulating reticulocytes, as it also occurs in anemic conditions. Although

Por su parte, el linfoma de células del manto (LCM) es un linfoma agresivo sin tratamiento curativo pero que presenta respuesta terapéutica a otros ITK. Con estos antecedentes nos planteamos que dasatinib podría ser una opción terapéutica para el LCM. Sin embargo, los estudios funcionales de adhesión y migración con células de LCM no aportaron resultados prometedores. Aunque dasatinib es efectivo y bien tolerado, los pacientes experimentan una linfocitosis transitoria cuyo pico se alcanza a las 2 horas de la toma del fármaco y se resuelve espontáneamente a las 4 horas. Esta linfocitosis, de causa desconocida, se ha asociado a una mejor respuesta al tratamiento, por lo que identificar su mecanismo es de interés clínico. Para dilucidar los mecanismos de la linfocitosis, realizamos ensayos in vitro que sugerían que dasatinib mediaba un defecto en la adhesión de linfocitos humanos sanos al endotelio y en la migración de células B. Experimentos in vitro demostraron que en linfocitos B murinos, dasatinib también causaba una importante inhibición de la migración hacia las quimioquinas homeostáticas CCL21, CXCL12 y CXCL13, expresadas constitutivamente en los órganos linfoides secundarios (OLS). Sin embargo, la quimiotaxis de las células T permaneció inalterada. Estos resultados no se tradujeron, in vivo, en un defecto sobre el homing linfocitario en un modelo murino capaz de reproducir la linfocitosis. En cambio, dasatinib causó una reducción del tamaño del bazo, que se correlacionaba con un aumento de la salida de linfocitos de los OLS. Una vez descartada la implicación del eje S1P1/S1PR1, que juega un papel esencial en la salida de los linfocitos de los OLS, nos planteamos que los efectos de dasatinib en el tráfico linfocitario pudieran ser debidos a efectos indirectos en otros tipos celulares. Nos centramos en las células fibroblásticas reticulares (FRCs), por su papel principal en el mantenimiento del tamaño y la estructura de los OLS. La inhibición farmacológica de ROCK con Y27632 revirtió parcialmente la linfocitosis y la salida de los linfocitos del bazo in vivo. In vitro, dasatinib compensó parte del acusado efecto que este inhibidor ejerce sobre la dinámica de la actina en las FRCs. Además, el análisis por microscopía intravital reveló un profundo efecto en la motilidad tanto de los linfocitos B como T en ratones tratados con dasatinib. Por último, datos preliminares de un estudio actual confirmaron que la reducción del tamaño del bazo ocurre también en pacientes de LMC tratados con dasatinib, a la vez que muestran linfocitosis. En resumen, nuestros datos sugieren que las alteraciones del microambiente de los OLS, y en particular de las células estromales, podrían interferir en la recirculación linfocitaria, constituyendo un mecanismo para explicar la linfocitosis inducida por dasatinib

Las denominaciones anatómicas humanas son el punto de partida para ordenar todo idioma científico biomédico y la comunicación científica está subordinada a Terminología Anatómica (TA). Para la incorporación de un término anatómico se utilizan resoluciones provenientes de la FIPAT y principios universales como el respeto a la identidad semántica de la estructura y sus componentes; sin embargo, en TA existen términos de líquidos biológicos y la ausencia de otros; los líquidos son resultado de procesos metabólicos y participan en fenómenos fisiológicos. En la publicación de la FIPAT 2da edición, Terminología Anatómica, 2011 se incluyen denominaciones de líquidos sin precisar el criterio de selección. Este documento pretende establecer una conciliación de dicha inequidad incorporando términos de líquidos biológicos básicos; se propone la necesidad de incorporar en un anexo dichos términos en atención a su presencia en espacios reales o virtuales sin aumentar el número de términos enlistados en el texto.

Introduction: Seed orchards provide germplasm genetically suitable for use in forest restoration. Knowledge of the spatial distribution of attributes is crucial for their management. Objective: To model cone production and tree size variables in a clonal orchard of Pinus arizonica Engelm. from a geospatial perspective in order to determine their behavior and distribution. Materials and methods: The spatial pattern of tree size variables and cone production of 126 ramets were determined through a geospatial analysis, using the Getis-Ord G statistic. A Pearson correlation analysis (P ≤ 0.05) determined the variables best associated with cone production and these were examined with stepwise regression. In terms of cone production, the best combination was modeled through a geographically weighted regression. Results and discussion: Statistically significant (P Conclusion: Tree size variables and cone production presented a tendency towards clustering. The use of a geospatial perspective allowed a better understanding of the spatial dynamics of tree size variables.

Se construyó una aplicación móvil en una tableta digital para facilitar la captura de datos en campo de inventario de plantaciones forestales y proveer una base de datos. La aplicación se elaboró usando la metodología desarrollo de aplicaciones móviles (MDAM). La evaluación de calidad de la aplicación se efectuó bajo las normas ISO 9126 y 14598-5 a través de un cuestionario con 6 atributos de calidad y 20 items que se estructuró con una escala Likert aditiva de intervalo (excelente, buena, regular, deficiente y mala). El análisis de resultados se formalizó bajo dos modalidades: atributos de calidad y facilidad de uso. En ambas modalidades los resultados demostraron que los promedios estuvieron en el rango “bueno-excelente”. Se concluye que es factible ajustar una aplicación móvil para captura de datos que cumpla las expectativas de calidad y funcionamiento de usuarios.

Para aumentar la productividad de las plantaciones comerciales es necesario realizar actividades de mejoramiento genético, para lo cual se necesita estimar parámetros genéticos. En México se han generado clones de crecimiento superior de Cedrela odorata L. que requieren evaluación en diversas condiciones ambientales. El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar heredabilidad, correlación genética y fenotípica e interacción genotipo-ambiente de 14 caracteres morfológicos y de crecimiento de Cedrela odorata L. en dos ensayos clonales a siete años. Los clones se formaron por injertos a la edad de cuatro meses. Se evaluaron 90 clones plantados en dos ambientes diferentes: Isla, Veracruz y San Francisco, Campeche. En Isla, 12 valores de heredabilidad resultaron mayores. Las heredabilidades más altas en ambos sitios se estimaron para la longitud del peciolulo, volumen y diámetro del fuste. Las correlaciones fenotípicas y genéticas entre las características de crecimiento fueron altas y positivas, mientras que entre las de crecimiento y las de fuste, copa y hojas fueron de bajas a moderadas. El volumen usado como criterio de selección no afectaría negativamente la respuesta de ninguna de las variables evaluadas. Pese a las diferencias ambientales se determinó estabilidad alta en el comportamiento de los clones seleccionados, excepto por cuatro clones interactivos de volumen superior en San Francisco. Con la exclusión de tres de los clones más interactivos para volumen se reduce casi totalmente la interacción genotipo-ambiente de esta característica. Para evitar pérdida genética se sugiere usar estos clones solamente en sitios de Campeche, y los demás superiores en ambos sitios.

The impact of the newly discovered severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 causing coronavirus disease‐19 (COVID‐19) in hemodialysis patients remains poorly characterized. Some hemodialysis techniques reduce systemic inflammation but their impact on COVID‐19 has not been addressed. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate factors associated with mortality in COVID‐19 hemodialysis patients, including the impact of reducing interleukin‐6 using a cytokine adsorbent filter. This is a prospective single‐center study including 16 hemodialysis patients with COVID‐19. All were dialyzed using a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) filter. Interleukin‐6 levels were obtained before and after the first admission hemodialysis session and at 1 week. Baseline comorbidities, laboratory values, chest X‐ray, and treatments were recorded and compared between survivors and non‐survivors. Out of 16 patients (13 males, mean age 72 ± 15 years), 4 (25%) died. Factors associated with mortality were dialysis vintage (P = 0.01), chest X‐ray infiltrates (P = 0.032), serum C‐reactive protein (P = 0.05), and lactate dehydrogenase (P = 0.02) at 1 week, oxygen therapy requirement (P = 0.02) and anticoagulation (P

New York’s Rockefeller Center is one of most symbolically rich places in the world, although few of its millions of visitors stop to reflect on what its images of power really mean. In the form of an Atlantean mythological allegory, Rockefeller Center was conceived as symbolic propaganda for capitalist, liberal values implicit in both the ‘American Dream’ and the ideology espoused by the Rockefeller family. It embodies the utopia of progress and science that promotes the freedom of the individual and the free movement of capital. Due to ideological clashes –or the vagaries of fate– the Catalan José María Sert was the artist to ultimately complete the most eloquent mural in the main building, a mural which had formerly been painted by Diego de Rivera, and entitled Man at the Crossroads. Sert was a muralist who had previously worked on the scenographic illustration of Manuel de Falla’s Atlántida, capturing some of the motifs that inspired that great cantata based on poetic texts by Jacint Verdaguer. That earlier work is reflected in the lobby of Rockefeller Center’s main building. While Diego de Rivera’s censored frescoes have been studied prolifically, little attention has been paid to Sert’s paradoxical reading of the same subjects. In this article, we analyse the history of the Atlantean Mediterranean literary myth in relation to Spain, the use John D. Rockefeller Jr. made of them in his emblematic urbanistic ensemble, and also the peculiar reading that the Catalan muralist made of these themes of Atlantis in relation to capitalism.

Background COVID-19 patients can develop a cytokine release syndrome that eventually leads to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Since interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a relevant cytokine in ARDS, the blockade of its receptor with Tocilizumab (TCZ) could reduce mortality and/or morbidity in severe COVID-19. Objective To determine whether baseline IL-6 serum levels can predict the need for IMV and the response to TCZ. Methods Retrospective observational study performed in hospitalized patients diagnosed of COVID-19. Clinical information and laboratory findings, including IL-6 levels, were collected approximately 3 and 9 days after admission to be matched with pre- and post-administration of TCZ. Multivariable logistic and linear regressions, and survival analysis were performed depending on outcomes: need for IMV, evolution of arterial oxygen tension/fraction of inspired oxygen ratio (PaO2/FiO2) or mortality. Results One hundred and forty-six patients were studied, predominantly male (66%); median age was 63 years. Forty-four patients (30%) required IMV, and 58 patients (40%) received treatment with TCZ. IL-6 levels>30 pg/ml was the best predictor for IMV (OR:7.1; p30 pg/ml predicts IMV requirement in patients with COVID-19 and contributes to establish an adequate indication for TCZ administration., Baseline IL-6 serum levels>30 pg/ml identify severe COVID-19 patients and should be used to guide the intervention with IL-6R inhibitors, aiming to improve their use in an uncertain and evolving therapeutic scenario.

Radiation proctitis (RP) is a complication of radiotherapy in patients with pelvic cancer. A 64-year-old male underwent brachytherapy 2 years previously due to prostate cancer. Subsequently, he developed RP which was treated with argon plasma coagulation (APC). He was subsequently hospitalized due to rectal bleeding and underwent a colonoscopy. A large deep ulcer was seen in the anterior rectum wall, in the same place where APC was performed 3 months earlier. A perforated rectal ulcer was seen via pelvic MRI. However, it was contained by the mesorrectum. Rectal ulcers after APC are uncommon, but they can develop as a result of thermal damage to an ischemic mucosa due to radiotherapy. The treatment of choice of large ulcers is surgery, with a temporary colostomy in order to aid re-epithelialization.

Metrópolis de Fritz Lang es una película de enorme complejidad que casi cien años después de su estreno sigue provocando polémica en torno a las posibles interpretaciones ideológicas que propone. En este artículo, se estudia la película en paralelismo con otros usos ideológicos que se hicieron de los mismos mitos clásicos y bíblicos en ese contexto histórico. Especialmente aporta mucha luz sobre el complejo significado de Metropolis la comparación con el proyecto iconográfico del Rockefeller Center de Nueva York, que sigue una estética similar y hace también un uso simbólico de los mitos clásicos de Prometeo y Atlas que aparecen en la película. Sin embargo, mientras que Metrópolis supone una cierta premonición distópica -y preventiva- de la crisis del sueño europeo que presagiaba, por ejemplo, el uso simbólico que de esos mismos mitos se hacía entonces tanto en la URSS como en la Alemania nazi, el Rockefeller Center simboliza -todavía hoy- el proyecto más utópico del sueño capitalista americano. El estudio comparativo entre estos usos diferentes de los mismos mitos griegos muestra que la película de Fritz Lang -ya superados los prejuicios metodológicos heredados de la guerra fría académica- se nos descubre como una obra de arte abierta, considerablemente universal e intemporal.

The plant growth-promoting bacterium Azospirillum brasilense contains several genes encoding proteins involved in the biosynthesis and degradation of the second messenger cyclic-di-GMP, which may control key bacterial functions, such as biofilm formation and motility. Here, we analysed the function and expression of the cdgD gene, encoding a multidomain protein that includes GGDEF-EAL domains and CHASE and PAS domains. An insertional cdgD gene mutant was constructed, and analysis of biofilm and extracellular polymeric substance production, as well as the motility phenotype indicated that cdgD encoded a functional diguanylate protein. These results were correlated with a reduced overall cellular concentration of cyclic-di-GMP in the mutant over 48 h compared with that observed in the wild-type strain, which was recovered in the complemented strain. In addition, cdgD gene expression was measured in cells growing under planktonic or biofilm conditions, and differential expression was observed when KNO3 or NH4Cl was added to the minimal medium as a nitrogen source. The transcriptional fusion of the cdgD promoter with the gene encoding the autofluorescent mCherry protein indicated that the cdgD gene was expressed both under abiotic conditions and in association with wheat roots. Reduced colonization of wheat roots was observed for the mutant compared with the wild-type strain grown in the same soil conditions. The Azospirillum-plant association begins with the motility of the bacterium towards the plant rhizosphere followed by the adsorption and adherence of these bacteria to plant roots. Therefore, it is important to study the genes that contribute to this initial interaction of the bacterium with its host plant.

El enraizado de estacas es una alternativa para la clonación masiva de árboles seleccionados, con características deseables y superiores para plantaciones comerciales. Sin embargo, la capacidad de enraizado disminuye rápidamente a los 2 o 3 años de edad en especies de coníferas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la capacidad de enraizamiento de estacas de plantas madre de Pinus patula de 15 y 18 meses de edad, con diferente dosis de fertilización y condición de crecimiento (manejo), y con la aplicación de 5000 × 10-6 (5000 ppm) de ácido indol-3-butírico (AIB) en solución líquida o con el producto comercial Radix® en pasta. A las 14 semanas de establecido el ensayo se evaluó el porcentaje de supervivencia, estacas con callo y raíces, así como el número, longitud de raíces primarias y presencia de raíces secundarias. Se encontraron efectos significativos (p ≤ 0.05) en los factores evaluados y en su interacción. La aplicación de AIB en solución durante 10 s o 20 s ocasionó el mayor porcentaje de enraizamiento (> 25%), 2-3 veces más que el testigo (8.5%). La fertilización de la planta madre con 7 g L-1 de Osmocote® bajo malla sombra provocó una mortalidad elevada de las estacas (30%). No se encontraron diferencias en longitud de raíz más larga, ni en longitud promedio de raíces primarias. La combinación de planta madre de 18 meses con fertilización de 5 g L-1 de Osmocote® en invernadero y la aplicación de AIB en solución líquida por 20 s produjo 73.8% de enraizado, valor aceptable en un programa operativo de clonación de Pinus patula.

Con la productividad primaria neta aérea (PPN) se evalúa el efecto de las prácticas silviculturales en ecosistemas manejados, pues es fundamental para entender su capacidad de almacenamiento de biomasa y carbono. En dos plantaciones de Pinus patula de 13 y 15 años se determinó el impacto del aclareo y la fertilización química sobre la PPN y otras variables; se estableció un experimento factorial de 22. La unidad experimental fue una parcela de 8 x 8 m y 10 x 10 m con tres repeticiones por tratamiento. Se obtuvo un área basal residual de 18 y 21 m2 ha-1 en las parcelas con aclareo, y el área basal promedio en aquellas sin aclareo fue de 28 y 42 m2 ha-1. Se aplicaron 0.64, 0.128, 2.68 y 1.4, 0.4, 8.34 kg de urea, superfosfato triple de calcio y sulfato de potasio, respectivamente. La caída de hojarasca se controló mediante trampas de 0.5 m2; los incrementos de biomasa de fuste, follaje y ramas se calcularon con ecuaciones alométricas. La fertilización no tuvo efectos significativos, pero tendió a disminuir el incremento de biomasa (IB) y a incrementar la producción de hojarasca (PHo) y la PPN en la plantación de 13 años. En la de 15 se elevaron el IB y la PPN, pero disminuyó la PHo. El aclareo no tuvo efectos significativos, aunque se registró aumento en la PPN en la plantación de 15 años, B aumentó en ambas y reducción en PHo. Algunos resultados sugieren que el recurso más limitante, probablemente, es la luz, mientras que la disponibilidad de nutrimentos no.

Hesperocyparis guadalupensis S. Watson es un especie endémica de Isla Guadalupe en proceso de recuperación después de la erradicación de la cabra feral (Capra hircus). En 2019 se establecieron cinco sitios de muestreo (400 m2) en tres distintas coberturas de dosel: baja (CB, ≤ 5 %), media (CM, 6-23 %) y alta (CA, ≥ 24 %) con el objetivo de evaluar su efecto sobre la dinámica de la repoblación y en la diversidad vegetal del sotobosque. Se obtuvo información de altura del árbol (A) y diámetro a la altura de pecho (DAP) de individuos juveniles (altura mínima de 1.5 y máxima de 10 m) y de la diversidad del sotobosque; además, se establecieron cuatro sub-sitios de 1 m2 por sitio de muestreo, donde se registró el número de plántulas con altura menor de 1.5 m. El nivel de cobertura del dosel no influyó en el número de juveniles, pero el número de plántulas fue mayor en CA (P = 0.003). Se identificaron tres categorías de altura (2.5, 4.5 y 6.5 m) y tres de diámetro (2.5, 7.5 y 12.5 cm) en la población; la mayor frecuencia de individuos se registró en las categorías menores (2.5 y 4.5 m de altura, 2.5 y 7.5 cm de diámetro), especialmente en CM y CA. En CB se encontró una distribución espacial uniforme [L(t) < 0], mientras que en CM y CA la distribución espacial fue agrupada [L(t) > 0]. En el sotobosque se registraron 24 especies correspondientes a 21 géneros y 12 familias, sin diferencias estadísticas significativas entre las coberturas del dosel en riqueza diversidad alfa del sotobosque. Al menos 60 % de las especies del sotobosque se comparten en las tres condiciones de dosel (diversidad beta). La estructura vertical y horizontal de juveniles y plántulas confirma la recuperación del bosque al mostrar un aumento de individuos en categorías bajas, con una distribución espacial asociada con la apertura de claros pequeños que fomentan la germinación y reclutamiento de nuevos individuos a la población.

Pinus patula es una especie de amplio uso e importancia en México y otros países por sus características de crecimiento y calidad de madera. Con la finalidad de identificar la existencia de un patrón de variación entre procedencias de diferente origen altitudinal (1959 a 2579 msnm), se evaluó en vivero la emergencia de plántulas, además de la altura y diámetro basal a los seis meses de edad en plantas de siete poblaciones de los estados de Hidalgo, Puebla y Veracruz, México. Se recolectó semilla de 49 árboles y la siembra se realizó en contenedores de polietileno. La emergencia de plántulas varió entre las poblaciones de 54.2 a 88.3 %, la velocidad de emergencia de 35.5 a 45.3 días, la altura varió de 25.8 a 27.9 cm y el diámetro basal de 3.4 a 3.6 mm. Las plantas provenientes de sitios de mayor altitud tuvieron mayor porcentaje y velocidad de emergencia que las procedentes de sitios de menor elevación. No se encontró un patrón de diferenciación en el crecimiento en altura y diámetro de las plantas en relación con la altitud del sitio de origen.

Gliricidia sepium has the ability to recruit and release nutrients, increasing primary productivity of forest sites. There are no reports documenting intercroping of G. sepium and Cedrela odorata and few studies examining nutrient supply as strategies to decrease incidence of Hypsipyla grandella in C. odorata plantations. In this study, intercroping of G. sepium and C. odorata and fertilization with N and P was tested in order to examine the effects of such factors on growth, nutrient status, and incidence of H. grandella on C. odorata trees. Twelve treatments fourfold replicated and derived from a 3 × 2 × 2 set of factors were randomly established within the experimental site. During 12 months, growth and pest-incidence variables were measured quarterly and monthly, respectively. K and Mg were the most deficient nutrients in the experimental site. Interplanting three G. sepium trees per plot increased K and Mg availability, thus improving C. odorata nutrient status and minimizing incidence of the pest during the first year. N supply did not improve C. odorata growth nor did it affect the incidence of H. grandella. P promoted tree height.

Se desarrolló un software mediante el Proceso Unificado Racional para estimar el inventario y el crecimiento-rendimiento maderable en plantaciones comerciales del género Eucalyptus, establecidas en Las Choapas, Veracruz, México. El software permite estimar el inventario a través de los muestreos: aleatorio simple, aleatorio estratificado y razón-regresión; mientras que las existencias maderables son proyectadas con un sistema de ecuaciones de crecimiento y rendimiento. Los módulos que componen el sistema permiten agregar, consultar y eliminar datos, así como exportarlos a Microsoft Excel. La validación del programa se hizo con datos del inventario de 2012, con 976 sitios temporales y un total de 32 744 árboles, distribuidos en 5896 ha, indicando una consistencia entre los resultados calculados por la empresa y el software. Por otro lado, la prueba de calidad demostró que 55% de los factores presentan un nivel de calidad bueno y que 45% cumple con una calidad aceptable; mientras que 67% de los usuarios finales consideran que el software es de buena calidad y 33% piensan que tienen una calidad aceptable.
