In the quest for Second Temple messianic traditions, Psalm of Solomon 17 serves as an indispensable touchstone. Within the psalm, v. 21 is of particular importance since it introduces the messianic 'son of David' for the first time in extant Second Temple literature. Given the importance of this psalm in general and of 17.21 in particular, it is therefore surprising that a translation option for 17.21 has gone unexplored in the last four centuries of scholarship. Through careful examination of external and internal evidence, in addition to the manuscript tradition, this article argues that David's son, rather than Israel, is the Lord's 'servant' in Ps. Sol. 17.21, a rendering that is bolstered by and adds to the psalm's position as the Second Temple witness to Davidic messianism par excellence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In January 2006, a new journal, Capsula Eburnea, was born into the Italian scientific publishing scene with the initial goal of creating, at the same time, "an open scientific forum and a blog", based on the premise that "in medicine, nothing should be considered stable, immutable or unsusceptible to critical review at any time, by any scientist". The Editorial Team progressively sought to improve the quality of the manuscripts published, introducing the requirement for all articles to be written in English, and changed the Journal's name to EuroMediterranean Biomedical Journal in 2012. Over the last five years, approximately 125 articles by young doctors (including original articles, reviews, commentaries, notes, and abstract books) have been published. The editorial board are confident that the new publishing layout and the renewed web-portal of the journal, introduced in this editorial, represent an essential upgrade after over 10 years of editorial activity, and that these improvements will be appreciated by our authors and, especially, our readers. The discussion section explains the meaning of results to the readers, and addresses the implications of the findings emanating from the particular study. Authors should compare their results with previous reports, and attempt to explain similarities and differences. It is useful to outline the limitations and strengths of the study, and suggest a future line of work. Author identity is a challenging problem for automation systems working with bibliographic resources. ORCID author identifiers are perceived as a simple and effective way to address this problem, but in order to accomplish this, ORCID identifiers need widespread adoption by researchers, organizations, and bibliographic automation systems. This column, the second of two, surveys how some libraries, publishers, and other research organizations are using ORCID identifiers to address the problem of author identity across different systems and workflows. The author discusses the process of cataloguing and the purpose of machine-readable cataloging record (MARC) record through the developed red carpet level of cataloguing with the manuscript score of French composer Gabriel Faure using the three standard red carpet interview questions. The methodological orientation of criminology and criminal justice journals is overwhelmingly quantitative. In fact, only between 5 and 10% of articles published in CCJ journals rely on qualitative methods. Fortunately, this trend seems to be changing within the discipline, which will encourage more scholars to seek to publish qualitative research. Our aim is to offer practical suggestions on how to best structure, write, and format manuscripts based on qualitative methods to increase the likelihood of success. We discuss the importance of paying attention to the organizational structure of the manuscript, properly selecting journals with which to submit, and properly formatting and revising manuscripts. Medieval scribes used decorated letters to mark the beginnings of songs, highlighting the incipits of texted voices and the vocal designations of others ("Tenor"). But some motets from fourteenth-century France begin with sung, untexted fanfares. This study examines several instances in the Machaut and Ivrea manuscripts where shortages of space, missing opening letters, and unorthodox layout decisions point to scribal confusion in the face of such beginnings. This evidence raises the possibility that untexted introductory sections may have traveled independently of their host compositions, and suggests new answers to the problems these "introitus" sections raise for modern editors and performers. The story in which Goethe sold a manuscript through a secret reserve price is revisited. Goethe's choice of secrecy can be explained as an attempt to mitigate the lemons problem through concealing his private information about the manuscript. The standard mechanisms that make the price public are unsafe for the seller as the buyer may adopt non-trusting posterior beliefs. A safe inscrutable mechanism is constructed here that generates more expected profits for some seller types than any such standard mechanism. The authors discusses the review process of manuscript paper written by researchers for immediate publication. It takes time or longer on review requests from different journals and their such time that it would be rejected. Authors are advised to follow the paper style of the manuscript based on the guidelines. The attractiveness of the paper is the determining factor for the reviewer.

Our signs are what we make them. To convey what they mean they must be interpreted, and how they're interpreted depends partly on what form they take, misleading or otherwise. So the means by which we realize our interior signs into the exterior world must retain a perennial interest, because we can achieve such realizations only via our physiology, which affects our signs' forms. Our mouths affect our spoken signs; our writing hands affect our written signs. (How could it be otherwise? Both tongues and fingers have limitations.) So a close look at how our writing hands realize our signs on the paper promises to be a good candidate for extending our understanding of how we physically realize our signs, and of how this both binds and frees us. The article focuses on the relation of the codex book with the 18th-century novel and their structures. Topics mentioned include the definition of "contingency" in a philosophical view, the authors Laurence Sterne, Henry Fielding, and Jane Austen, and the relations between the physical book and the narrative structure.

Manuscript rejection is a fact of life for academics, and should be seen as just one step in a process of revision and resubmission that typically results in publication. This two-part article offers suggestions to help authors take action on their rejected manuscripts, including analyzing reviewer feedback, revising judiciously, and making strategic decisions about where and how to resubmit. Part 1, in this issue, addresses authors who have been invited by journal editors to revise and resubmit their manuscripts. Graduate programmes require their doctoral students to write as scholars and experts who publish their findings in quality, peer-reviewed journals. However, since not all programmes require a formal writing course and uniformity in explicit instructions from supervisors is not possible, variability in the preparedness of trainees for scientific manuscript writing is likely. Indeed, results from a selfreported survey of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers that we conducted confirm this uneven preparation, and reinforce the clear need for formal training in disciplinary writing. We review some initiatives, whose implementation should prove profitable in formalizing the instruction of pre- and postdoctoral researchers in the practical skills required to write dissertations and scientific manuscripts, the cornerstone for archiving and transferring disciplinary knowledge. Abstract: The design work of 95 GHz, 100 kW gyrotron for Active Denial System (ADS) application is reported in this manuscript. The mode selection is performed considering the various technical constraints. Particle-in-Cell code and indigenously developed code based on the generalized non-linear formalism are used in the beam–wave interaction computation and cavity design. Both the codes show good similarity in results. In addition, the design of electron beam source of 364 kW beam power, beam tunnel, depressed collector and RF window are also discussed. The article presents goals, prognostic models and methodology of guideline on the management of primary resistant and relapsed disease Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). It discusses various prognostic models which include salvage therapy, autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) and radiotherapy. The production of guidelines involved several steps including initial review of the manuscript, final review by the British Society for Haematology (BSH) and recommendations based on best available evidence.

The article lists contributors to the issue, including Assefaw Bariagaber, Victoria Bernal, and David M. Bozzini, and contains instructions to authors on submitting works.

This paper considers aspects of the variety of literature concerned with information and instruction that was in circulation in later medieval and early modern England. It looks at the dynamic nature of that literature and at what it can reveal about cultural and social practices as well as ways of reading and engaging with texts and textual genres. It also examines the interface between texts in manuscript and in print, and considers some of the implications that technological innovation had for the spread of information. The concept of the diagram has a rich history in many theoretical disciplines as well as in applied practices. This essay suggests that a dialogue between theory and practice can be used to explore the potential of digital platforms for developing an approach to writing and display that takes advantage of the semantically constitutive effects of format features. This approach would borrow from manuscript conventions, as well as those of print, and combine them with the specific affordances of newer media. In development of such an approach, and such a discourse, this article pursues a critical, descriptive language of the rhetorical effects of spatial relations that addresses graphical features (juxtaposition, hierarchy, interlinearity, proximity and so on) and their capacity to produce semantic value. An essay is presented on the effect the digital manuscript has had on medievalists as well as the roles played by habit and sensation in the interaction with medieval books. The essay discusses the medieval habits of reading, how these habits structure textual meaning and the significance of a layout in the presentation of a manuscript. The essay goes on to discuss the fragility of medieval objects and the aura of mystery this produces for a scholar.

An essay is presented on the rhyming pattern of "Sir Thopas," a chapter of the medieval poem "The Canterbury Tales" by the 14th century poet Geoffrey Chaucer. The essay discusses the rhyming pattern, called a tail rhyme, the rhyme's similarity to a liturgical song and the way in which the layout of the poem suggests that it is a parody. The essay goes on to discuss the significance of the poem's form and the different ways in which it could be recieved.

Abstract: The ideal intervention against HIV/ AIDS infection will be a highly effective vaccine with long lasting-protection, but unfortunately that is currently non-existent. In this manuscript the potential of antiretroviral drugs when used as pre-exposure vaccines in the fight against the spread of HIV is explored using a mathematical model. Results from the analysis of the reproduction number suggest that use of antiretroviral drugs as pre-exposure vaccines for the uninfected in conjunction to their use as treatment regimen for the infected will contribute meaningfully to curtail the spread of the epidemic. This result is also supported by numerical simulations which show low levels of infection when both interventions are in place. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract In the second half of the fifteenth century, the sisters of the Brussels convent of Jericho regularly wrote manuscripts on commission (pro pretio) for their fellow sisters and for other persons and (semi-)religious institutions outside the convent walls. This is apparent from accounts the prioresses kept for a period of twenty-five years, between 1466 and 1491. These accounts offer us an unprecedentedly concrete and detailed view of the production of manuscripts for payment in the convent, which is highly important for our knowledge of the commercial aspects of late medieval writing culture in the Netherlands. This article offers a view of the inside of the scriptorium, in which usually five or six copyists worked at the same time. The article discusses an Ethiopian Coptic magical manuscript (MS 681) housed at Romania's University Library of Cluj (Biblioteca Centrală Universitară). The authors begin by describing the layout and size of the manuscript, along with its binding and decoration. They note the presence of magical spells, a prayer dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and prayers related to protection from charms, demons, and diseases in the manuscript. They conclude that the manuscript should be included in the Ethiopian Manuscript Microfilm Library.

In this article the authors offer observations on the Códice de Teotenantzin (Codex Teotenantzin), an artwork that documents bas-reliefs carved on the cliffs of the Basin of Mexico, from the eighteenth century. Particular focus is given to the codex's depiction of a goddess named Teotenantzin, which translates to mother of the gods. The author suggests that codex was created by an artist trained in European painting traditions. Details relating to the artistic technique used on the codex are also discussed.

The article discusses the sea monsters in the Latin manuscript "Geography," by Ptolemy, which was written in Florence, Italy in about 1455-1460 and named Madrid, Biblioteca Nacional, manuscript (MS) Res. 255. It states that the maps in the manuscript are designed with a remarkable variety and number of sea monsters, which constitute an unknown part in the history of latter medieval marine zoological picture. It says that the monsters are also noteworthy as no sea monsters are illustrated in the 53 existing manuscripts of his "Geography." It adds that the sea monsters in the manuscript are not encyclopedic or systematic, but they bear similarity with known painted ones, such as that in the Book 6 of the manuscript "De natura rerum," by Thomas of Cantimpré.

This contribution analyses a literally visible tendency in contemporary fiction, namely typographic experimentation involving manipulation of fonts, deformation of page layout, incorporation of images and exploitation of the physical properties of the book as object. These departures from the conventional format of the printed codex subvert the widely assumed transparency of print and encourage the reader's engagement with the material form of the novel. Typographic experimentation can thus be construed as an instance of 'technological metareference', i. e. metareference that elicits the recipient's awareness of the technological form of a given medium. This turning to the materiality of print, related to its growing marginalisation in contemporary culture, seems to illustrate one of the cultural mechanisms responsible for the metareferential turn: in response to the challenge of other media, especially digital, many contemporary writers self-consciously exploit the potential of the printed novel in a manner allowing it to retain its unique identity in the media system. The article focuses on the environmental issue concerning lawyering documents. It discusses how current designs of lawyering documents has negatively affected the environment, specifically paper utilization. It suggests that redesigning lawyering documents can make documents more readable and can reduce the environmental impact of document design choices. It presents three document design strategies which include allowing or requiring double-sided printing, moving to 1.5 line spacing instead of double spacing, and adopting court rules that set documents by word counts and concurrently eliminating font and font-size requirements. Furthermore, it states that the suggestions do not involve going paperless but is based on the concept of achieving sustainability.
