This article deals with the work of the Covid-19 Observatory, a project of the Presidency of Fiocruz and a catalyst in the production and dissemination of information on the pandemic in Brazil. Its activities resulted in the constitution of a digital archive, associated with the idea of "project memory," whose characteristics derived from the health emergency scenario we are of interested in investigating. The general objective of this article is to reflect on the creation and operation of the Covid-19 Observatory with a focus on the challenges related to the management of documents and information from its actions. To this end, concepts from the fields of information science, archival science, social memory and history of sciences and health are used as theoretical inputs, in addition to information from interviews and documentary sources. The Internet has become a crucial source of health information for health sciences students. They increasingly rely on the Internet for health information to support their educational projects, academic activities, clinical practice and research. Surprisingly, it has been shown that students' health information skills for conducting research on the Internet are inadequate. Indeed, developing and improving the health information skill set of health sciences students is required in order for students to effectively locate, critically evaluate, and efficiently use online health information for the effective location, critical evaluation and efficient use of online health information. This paper undertakes a systematic review of the literature with a focus on electronic health information literacy skills with the aim of identifying the current trends, contributions to, and practices in health sciences students' education, and informing researchers in the field universally about the essential baseline for the design and development of effective course contents, pedagogy and assessment approaches. However, majority of students have limited skills for the location, evaluation and effective use of health information on the Internet. The article presents the discussion on providing information to help families understand being integral to the involvement in shared decision-making and patient care. Topics include inpatient Library Order is called a consult, and the outpatient Library Order being called a referral; and providing information to families and responding to Library Orders are the Family Librarian's highest priority.

Many Health Sciences Librarians (HSLs) affiliated with academic health centers in the US have faculty status. Faculty status enables HSLs to collaborate with their health sciences faculty colleagues as peers. Translating HSL faculty responsibilities into terms their faculty counterparts can understand represents an ongoing challenge for HSLs. This translation process becomes crucial when HSLs with faculty status seek a promotion or wish to secure tenure. The authors used job analysis to clarify faculty roles for HSLs to create a "Crosswalk" that enables the reader to identify an HSL role and find an equivalent health sciences faculty role. Health and safety in the workplace are critical components in healthcare institutions. Unsafe working conditions are among the causes of poor quality of care and burnout. This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practice of occupational health and safety among nursing students at Al-Israa University. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, a structured online questionnaire was distributed from March to May 2021. Of the 350 eligible students, 219 students answered the questionnaire (Response rate=62.6). Data were analyzed using the statistical software IBM-SPSS version 22. Descriptive statistic, Independent-samples T-Test, and ANOVA tests were used. RESULTS: The majority of participants were female (81.7%) and studying in a diploma program. 21% of nursing students have experienced a needle stick injury. The mean scores for knowledge, attitudes, and practice were (M±SD:78.2% ±12.9, M±SD:80.6% ±7.1, and M±SD:81.2% ±7.6) respectively. In terms of knowledge, attitudes, and practice the mean scores were statistically significant between nursing students who attended a safety precautions course and those who didn not (P-value <.05). In terms of attitudes, the mean scores were statistically significant between diploma and bachelor students (P-value =.026). In terms of practice, the means scores were statistically significant between males and females (P-value =.017), nursing students who had experience with needle sticks and those who didn't (P-value =.015). CONCLUSION: The authors recommend that clinical training departments and universities continue to offer occupational health and safety courses and training for health science students. The United States of America has traditionally attracted people from various countries, including physicians and dentists, who wish to further their education and career in the U.S. international medical graduates' (IMGs) role has been shown to be vital in medical academics and healthcare delivery systems. IMGs' demographics, contribution to the U.S. healthcare system, education and research, and challenges in the U.S. medical system have been extensively investigated. However, similar data are limited to foreign-trained dentists (FTDs). This study reviews the current literature related to IMGs and FTDs and proposes some recommendations for future studies. Community (non-academic) hospitals are implementing graduate medical education programs to offset physician shortages in the United States. Teaching hospitals must meet accreditation requirements for scholarly activity, yet literature does not show whether or not a librarian's research capacity impacts this requirement. Individual, professional, and organizational domains comprise the framework used to define and evaluate research capacity in this quantitative study. No significant difference in research capacity or GME scholarly activity was initially found between academic and non-academic hospital librarians. Further testing revealed the largest variances in the professional domain, but additional statistical analysis can provide insight on areas of librarian research capacity to guide future investigation and support. The article presents the discussion on performance of clinical informationists in clinical teams leading clinical professionals for accessing quality information and making better decisions. Topics include core competencies along with sub-competencies being discussed in the focus group for determining curriculum goals and strategies; and competency-based curriculum being used as a resource guiding hospital librarians in acquiring the competencies and skills required by informationists.

Because of gaps in the offerings of Library and Information Science programs and librarian continuing education programs, library students and early-career librarians may not be aware of opportunities in health sciences librarianship. There is a need for introductory educational offerings on the foundations of health sciences librarianship. There is also a need to address barriers that may obstruct members of underrepresented groups from becoming health sciences librarians. The article explores the possibility that online education and mentoring can address gaps in introductory educational offerings in health sciences librarianship. The article describes the development of a pilot program for an online Introduction to Health Sciences Librarianship course and mentoring program, reflects on results from a survey of program participants, and identifies areas for further research and program development. Objective: At many institutions, literature search services are an important aspect of health science librarianship. This exploratory study analyzes how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the use of an academic hospital medical library's literature search service. Methods: To evaluate the pandemic's impact on literature searching at The University of Tennessee Medical Center's Preston Medical Library, data were analyzed for changes from the year before the pandemic (March 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020) to the first year during the pandemic (March 1st, 2020 to February 28, 2021). This was accomplished using LibWizard, a library feedback and assessment application, to review literature search data during the two periods. Variables of interest included total searches, purpose of searches, affiliation of the searcher, and searches with a pandemic-related research question. Results: A 36.6% drop in literature search service usage was reported from the pre-pandemic year to the during-pandemic year. There was a 55.3% decrease in searches intended for research, as well as significant decreases in the number of searches requested by all patron affiliations. After March 2020, 10% of all searches concerned a COVID-related topic. Conclusion: The overall decrease in literature search requests, decrease in research searches, decrease in searches among all patron affiliations, and increase in searches on a COVID-related topic suggest that healthcare worker and institutional priorities changed during the pandemic. In this editorial, on the occasion of the one-hundred anniversary of the creation of the Librarianship and Information Science Career at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, we reflect on various aspects of the teaching of the profession and its relationship with research. Some of the topics analyzed are the following: the need to abandon traditional Library Science, the incorporation of subjects such as mathematics, intensive computer programming and digital expertise into the curriculum, the discussion of the postgraduate academic training in the profession, the inclusion of anthropological and social studies in our careers, among other issues. Objective -- To determine health sciences librarians' attitudes toward professionalism and to examine relationships between professionalism attributes and participant characteristics as defined by the Richard H. Hall Professionalism Inventory. Design -- Cross-sectional online survey using the Richard H. Hall Professionalism Inventory. Setting -- Electronic mailing lists of the Medical Library Association (MLA), the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL), the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Health Sciences Interest Group, and the Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA). Subjects -- There were 430 participants. Methods -- The online survey, created in REDCap, was distributed electronically across multiple mailing lists during June and July of 2019. Quantitative analysis included descriptive statistics and ANOVA conducted in R with reliability determined by Cronbach's alpha. Main Results -- Professionalism scores for health sciences librarians were lowest in public service and self-regulation, and highest in professional organization as referent, autonomy, and sense of calling. Individuals with a degree in health sciences scored lower on a sense of calling than individuals with Library and Information Science (LIS) degrees. Faculty benefits such as tenure decreased sense of calling. There were statistically significant differences according to role (e.g., archives, administration). Subject specialty librarians had lower scores in most attributes. Conclusion -- Health sciences librarianship does not clearly meet the criteria of a profession. Its heterogeneity of specializations and receptiveness to diverse backgrounds and perspectives are possible threats to its ability to create a cohesive identity. Further, duties that can be considered non-library work appear to correlate with lower professionalism scores, even when they are associated with faculty status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diversity, equity and inclusion have become buzz words over the last year. While this is important, it is necessary that library staff do not move on from the vision of these words. Equity, much like the health of a person, is holistic. It is not just having a book club on race issues or celebrating Black History Month; equity is evaluating each aspect of the opportunities and power libraries and library staff possess and continually working toward a place of diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and tools that level the inequities. This paper will show how librarians and health equity fellows proactively carried out an initiative for health equity to support the campus vision, and translated this vision into practical steps that work toward equity for the community they serve. This work included acknowledging shortcomings, locating gift funds, conducting a needs analysis of the collection, providing resources and other services, and offering fellowships for graduated students to perform these duties. An increasing number of articles published in different scientific fields makes it necessary to analyze the topics of these articles in specialized journals. For this purpose, topics published in the studies on medical librarianship and information in specialized journals were identified and analyzed in the present research. In the present study, an exploratory and descriptive approach was used to analyze medical librarianship and information articles published in specialized journals of this field from 1964 to 2019 by employing text-mining techniques. A latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling algorithm was used to identify the published topics. Python programming language was also used to run text-mining algorithms. The findings of text mining and topic modeling showed that the following topics were published in medical librarianship and information: Patients' use of information resources (34%), Medical Librarianship and Information Services (18%), Scientometrics and bibliometrics (16.32%), Web-based treatment (15.47%), Information literacy and information skills (13.9%), and Trend and tweet analysis (1.92%). The study aimed to analyze the Journal of Hospital Librarianship (JHL) publications between 2001 and 2020 as indexed in Elsevier's Scopus database. The dataset was extracted on February 25, 2021 and 807 records were identified for data analysis. Various bibliometric indicators of the papers were assessed. There was an average of 1.32 citations per document. Sixty percent of the papers were single-authored, but the multi-author papers had a higher number of citations. The USA was identified as the country with the most contributions; Louisiana State University was the highest contributing institution, while Helen-Ann Brown Epstein was the most prolific author. Each day, we are witnessing the emergence of new technologies that have the capability to embed into our environment and measure the physical, social and contextual phenomenon. The technology behind IOT is driven by various technological forces such as smart devices, wireless network, and pervasive connectivity among others. Data collection, management and accessibility are made easy with Internet of Things IOT. The Internet of Things (IoT) is aimed at formulating a complex information system with the combination of sensor data acquisition, efficient data exchange through networking, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, and clouds. Introduction: the reference service in university libraries specialized in health has certain singularities due to the characteristics of the scientific field of the field of Health Sciences, the interface between teaching practices and scientific research, as well as the general profile and demands for information /reliable evidence by academics, professors/researchers and practitioners. Objective: to present and discuss the singularities of the reference service in university libraries specialized in health, as well as the challenges/potentialities of librarianship in this context. Method: The study, of theoretical character, carried out exploratory research with bibliographic research in national and international literature in the area of Librarianship/Information Science. Results: The results obtained indicate that the singularities of the work process in university libraries are determined not only by the idiosyncrasies of health personnel, but, above all, by the fact that human health (physical and mental) is the object of study and practice of area. Conclusion: It is concluded that despite the challenges related to library training in Brazil and the development of desirable and/or required skills/skills for health care, these elements do not constitute an insurmountable obstacle to professional practice with excellence. The Prince George's County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) has a long-standing partnership with the county's human rights education and enforcement agency, the Office of Human Rights (PGCOHR), formerly the Prince George's County Human Relations Commission (PGCHRC). The two agencies serve over 967,000 Prince Georgians, a majority-Black (64.4%) and Latin or Hispanic (19.5%) population with a sizable immigrant community (22.7%). The civil rights issues of 2020 hit close to home in Prince George's County and the agencies have sustained a multi-year effort to provide residents with opportunities to learn how to engage with social justice topics for personal and collective advancement. This paper outlines the agencies' innovative model for collaborative community programming, which has dramatically expanded the scope and impact of their equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism (EDIA) initiatives despite minimal funding resources and the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic. PGCMLS and PGCOHR's approach to joint programming is modeled in their Collaborative Programming Lifecycle, which can be applied to a wide range of content areas, whether special events, series, thematic programs, or special events. The lifecycle also touches individual presenters, partners, funders, attendees, and the daily work of programming staff. The partners have successfully deployed the Collaborative Programming Lifecycle to develop internationally acclaimed EDIA programs in multiple formats that influence local efforts to advance social equity and anti-racism. The joint mission of this partnership is to provide meaningful conversation that strengthens the collective community. While this partnership pre-dates both the pandemic and the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the agencies rapidly transitioned to virtual programming and engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to immediate local impact, the partnership's programs have resulted in a compelling new model for making local programs accessible to larger communities at state, regional, and national levels. Formal training or education, in pedagogy in library school or as part of job onboarding process, remains sparse, despite being a required qualification for a significant portion of academic librarian positions. This situation often leaves early career librarians left to piece together their knowledge of effective teaching strategies. This article discusses the experience of an early career librarian in learning pedagogical practices as well as the specific needs of a new discipline. This article provides the results of an investigation into how health sciences librarians with user experience (UX) duties describe their roles and initiatives. Through an online survey, 40 respondents provided details on institutional demographics, work plans, participant recruitment, and data collection. Four interviews were also conducted. This investigation provides perspectives on UX within the health sciences library (HSL) environment including barriers and successes. It is hoped that the results of this article will influence research into timely and efficient UX initiatives within HSLs and provide librarians, staff, and administrators the information they need to support decision making. Health disparities within Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities are often masked due to aggregated data. Lack of adequate data limits required health care services for these communities. While moving forward toward health equity, it is critical that disparities for API communities are acknowledged and addressed. This study analyzed the literature to identify the challenges of Clinical Information (CI) services. Qualitative content analysis of 29 articles led to identify four main categories including performance (educational and clinical); personal (attitude, psychological, skill, knowledge, and time); management; and technological challenges. Proper implementation of clinical informationist services and evaluation of their advantages to improve the quality of services requires understanding the challenges and barriers associated with these services. An academic research institution and a corporate hospital system formed a new graduate medical education (GME) consortium. The consortium objectives were to increase the scholarly activity of the residents and fellows in a national hospital system's GME residency program to match the requirements set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. A GME librarian position was created specifically to serve the GME research programs at Florida area hospitals to help with this objective. This paper describes the experience, activities, and lessons learned from the creation of an entirely new GME library program and librarian position for a nine-hospital region in Florida. Health sciences librarianship has historically benefited from avoiding critical conversations around the role of race in the profession, reflected through a select few number of articles on the topic. The purpose of this study was to add to this body of literature and apply a critical librarianship framework on the early scholarly record of health sciences librarianship and the legacy of integration within the Medical Library Association (MLA). Three Southern medical works and the integration views of Mary Louise Marshall, the longest-serving president of MLA from 1941 to 1946, were thematically and textually analyzed to redress the profession's long-standing legacy with Whiteness and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) representation. In reframing the historic past of MLA both through Marshall's works and her views, the goal is to acknowledge ways in which the profession has impeded progress and present steps to remedy appropriate outreach for the future. There is a lack of information about what Master of Library Science students are looking for in graduate employment positions in a library. Little is known about how students select graduate employment positions to apply for and what they understand about the tasks in position descriptions. This study sought to answer the questions: what factors are important for students in deciding about graduate employment in a library, and what do graduate students understand about graduate employment jobs in health sciences libraries? A think-aloud protocol was used. Participants read four graduate employment position descriptions and answered semi-structured interview questions about desire to apply for the positions and interest in health sciences librarianship. Eighteen participants completed interviews. Interviews were coded anonymously and independently by the authors using grounded theory. Results report on responses to position characteristics; interest in job projects; decision to apply; and interest in health sciences. Graduate employment position descriptions can be improved to be more attractive to students by providing flexible work arrangements and allowing students to select projects that align with career aspirations. This study was conducted with the aim of involving Clinical Informationists (CI) in the hospital setting. It is fundamental-applied research done in an action research method. The research was conducted in the gastrointestinal ward of Al-Zahra Hospital, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Iran. The time covered was 2015–2019. Qualitative content analysis and concept mapping were used to analyze the data. Based on the first three steps of Action research, a CI participated in ward round sessions. In the fourth step strengths and weaknesses of the services were explored. In the fifth stage, existing problems, gaps in the way of providing this service, and suggestions were presented. The members of the clinical team were satisfied with the participation of the CI, but in order to improve this participation, technical, structural and individual problems and obstacles are required be addressed. Embedded librarianship can give librarians direct impact on student success in a clinical setting, but there is not a prescribed method for training new librarians to work in this environment. The first of its kind Clinical Medical Librarian program at the University of Missouri Kansas City has embedded librarians into clinical instruction for decades, and has created a set of materials, protocol and templates that can be used to integrate a new hire into the position. This paper focuses on terminological data identification, management, standardization and linguistic modeling techniques used in preparing a new model of the Lithuanian-English Dictionary of Librarianship, Information and Book Science at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. This model is analysed from the point of view of current trends in terminology and standardization, and can expand knowledge exchange and help in its exchange accross these areas as well as improve the quality of professional content management in the future. Another aim of this paper was to update the importance of glossaries of technical terms for linguistic representation and global digital dissemination of scientific data in Lithuanian.
