Abstract: Results are presented on the ratios of the nucleon structure function in copper to deuterium from two separate experiments. The data confirm that the nucleon structure function,F2, is different for bound nucleons than for the quasi-free ones in the deuteron. The redistribution in the fraction of the nucleon's momentum carried by quarks is investigated and it is found that the data are compatible with no integral loss of quark momenta due to nuclear effects.

Abstract: Beauty photoproduction in dijet events has been measured at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 126 pb-1. Beauty was identified in events with a muon in the final state by using the transverse momentum of the muon relative to the closest jet. Lifetime information from the silicon vertex detector was also used; the impact parameter of the muon with respect to the primary vertex was exploited to discriminate between signal and background. Cross sections for beauty production as a function of the muon and the jet variables as well as dijet correlations are compared to QCD predictions and to previous measurements. Abstract: Final data measured with the EMC forward spectrometer are presented on the production of forward charged hadrons in μp and μd scattering at incident beam energies between 100 and 280 GeV. The large statistic of 373 000 events allows a study of the semi-inclusive hadron production as a function ofz,pT2 and 〈pT2〉 in smallQ2,xBj andW bins. Charge multiplicity ratios and differences as a function ofz andxBj are given forp, d andn-targets. From the differences of charge multiplicities the ratio of the valence quark distributions of the protondv(x)/uv(x) is determined for the first time in charged lepton scattering. The Gronau et al. sum rule is tested, the measured sum being 0.31±0.06 stat. ±0.05 syst., compared with the theoretical expectation of 2/7≈0.286. The measured sum corresponds to an absolute value of the ratio of thed andu quark charge of 0.44±0.10 stat.±0.08 syst.

Abstract: Objectives: To describe the initial results of the implementation of a dysphagia assessment and intervention programme and to know which variables showed significant differences between patients with and without dysphagia detected by this way at an intermediate and long stay hospital. Methods: Descriptive and retrospective study on the assessment performed to patients suspected of having dysphagia and of the subsequent intervention done on those in whom it was confirmed. A standardized clinical method using different viscosities and volumes was used. After confirming the condition, different dietary, postural, and educational cares were undertaken. Demographical, clinical, and analytical variables were registered. Results: 146 patients were included, 110 of them presenting dysphagia of whom the corresponding assessments and interventions were described. This represented a dysphagia prevalence of 14.8% among all admitted patients. The univariate analysis between patients with and without dysphagia showed that the former presented at the time of admission a higher prevalence of a feeding tube (p = 0.011) and a lower proportion of mild cognitive impairment (p = 0.048); and at the time of hospital discharge, lower functional recovery (p <0.01) and higher presence of a feeding tube (p = 0.028), hyponutrition (p <0,01), and mortality (p = 0.02). Conclusions: Given its frequent presentation and important clinical repercussion, and in order to improve health care quality at ILSH, the implementation of a dysphagia care programme is advisable. The dysphagia detected was correlated with the presence of a feeding tube and had clear implications on the clinical course at a functional and nutritional level and vital prognosis. Abstract: Results are presented from a study of deep inelastic 280 GeV muon-nucleon interactions on the transverse momenta and jet properties of the final state hadrons. The results are analysed in a way which attempts to separate the contributions of hard and soft QCD effects from those that arise from the fragmentation process. The fragmentation models with which the data are compared are the Lund string model, the independent jet model, the QCD parton shower model including soft gluon interference effects, and the firestring model. The discrimination between these models is discussed. Various methods of analysis of the data in terms of hard QCD processes are presented. From a study of the properties of the jet profiles a value of αs, to leading order, is determined using the Lund string model, namely αs=0.29±0.01 (stat.) ±0.02 (syst.), forQ2∼20 GeV2.

Abstract: A total of 2027 K+→π+π0π0 decays at rest were analysed in hydrogen and heavy liquid bubble chambers. The π+ energy spectrum is compared with 3 spectrum shapes:a) linear matrix element,b) linear spectrum, andc) σ resonance hypothesis. The comparison between τ′ and τ decays indicates that they are consistent withI=1 final state and that the agreement is better if one uses the linear matrix element fit in the τ′ decay. Our data fit also well the σ resonance hypothesis formσ∼350 MeV and Γσ∼80 MeV, but do not allow a definite conclusion on this point. The τ′ to τ branching ratio obtained is 0.303±0.009.

Abstract: Interactions of π− of 6.1, 11.6 and 18.1 GeV/c from the CERN PS on protons or quasi-free neutrons have been studied in the Ecole Polytechnique one-meter bubble chamber filled with a mixture 86% propane C3H8-14% freon CF3Br (by volume). Interactions have been selected in which two neutral strange particles are visible in order to study correlations among the strange particles and to study separately the behaviour of the K 1 0 ’s from the reactions: π−+N → K0 + -K0+nπ +N, π−+N → K0+Λ(Σ0)+nπ. It is found that πp c.m.s longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions are similar for the K 1 0 ’s from K0-K0 and from K0Y0 pairs. They tend to go forward in the c.m.s., small momenta being most probable. The baryon (A or nucleon) tends to go backward in the c.m.s. but with longitudinal momentum distributed roughly uniformly from slightly forward to the maximum kinematically possible backward. The K 1 0 ’s of K 1 0 K 1 0 pairs tend to have relative energy which is only a small fraction of that available with a distribution roughly independent of the π− beam momentum and of the πp c.m.s. momentum of the K 1 0 K 1 0 system. This effect does not seem to be due to phase-space limitations arising from backward peaking of the nucleon. We have too few events to decide whether this low-energy peaking of theQ-values is due to a resonance near 1.1 GeV or to a strong low-energy K0-K0 inter-action. Clear evidence of K* (0.89 GeV) and to a lesser degree of Y1* (1.39 GeV) are seen in K0A production. (47±15)% of all K 1 0 π+ systems are (K*)+, (30±20)% of all Λπ systems are Y1*. No evidence is seen of K* production in K 1 0 K 1 0 producing jets.

Abstract: Subjet distributions were measured in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 81.7 pb-1. Jets were identified using the kT cluster algorithm in the laboratory frame. Subjets were defined as jet-like substructures identified by a reapplication of the cluster algorithm at a smaller value of the resolution parameter ycut. Measurements of subjet distributions for jets with exactly two subjets for ycut=0.05 are presented as functions of observables sensitive to the pattern of parton radiation and to the colour coherence between the initial and final states. Abstract: An analysis of charged pion photo-production on He/sup 4/ is made to investigate the existence of H/sup 4/ states. A diffusion cloud chamber filled with He/sup 4/ was exposed to a 1-Bev gamma beam and the gamma /sup +/ He/sup 4/ yields pi /sup +/ + n + H/sup 3/ even ts were selected, A sample of 96 events is analyzed. The results indicate the reaction gamma + He/sup 4/ yields pi /sup +/ + STAH/sup 4/!; STAH/sup 4/! Y n + H/sup 3/ + (3.5 to 7) Mev, with a frequency comparable to pi /sup +/ photoproduction without the formation of (H/sup 4/!. (H.D.R.)

Abstract: The fragmentation functions of u-quarks into positive and negative pions are determined from an analysis of identified pions produced in deep inelastic muon-deuterium scattering. The method adopted is not sensitive to the knowledge of the primary quark distribution functions. The fragmentation of u quarks to positive pions is found to fall less steeply in z than that to negative pions as expected in the quark parton model. © 1985.

Abstract: The multiplicity distributions of charged hadrons produced in the deep inelastic muon-proton scattering at 280 GeV are analysed in various rapidity intervals, as a function of the total hadronic centre of mass energy W ranging from 4–20 GeV. Multiplicity distributions for the backward and forward hemispheres are also analysed separately. The data can be well parameterized by binomial distributions, extending their range of applicability to the case of lepton-proton scattering. The energy and the rapidity dependence of the parameters is presented and a smooth transition from the negative binomial distribution via Poissonian to the ordinary binomial is observed.

Abstract: The phenomenon of regeneration consists of a transformation of an incident long-lived neutral KL wave into a linear superposition of short- and long-lived states, KS and KL. It is expected to occur for any process in which K0 and $\overline{{{K}_{0}}}$ interact differently. In particular, the amplitude for KS regeneration from nuclei at momentum transfer q, is the half difference between the K0 and $\overline{{{K}_{0}}}$ nuclear scattering amplitudes $\frac{1}{2}\{f({{q}^{2}})-\bar{f}({{q}^{2}})\}$. This process is coherent in the very forward direction (transmission regeneration). Both modulus and phase of $f(0)-\bar{f}(0)$ can be deduced from the observation of the inter-ference between the regenerated KS and the transmitted KL waves.

Abstract: The ZEUS collaboration In the analysis for our paper on D* production, the beauty contribution was erroneously subtracted twice in the extraction of the reduced cross sections. This affected tables 9 and 10 as well as figures 9 and 10 that are reproduced here in a corrected version. The kinematical acceptances shown in the last colum of table 10 have been also corrected since they were calculated with a different value for the charm fragmentation fraction than what was used in the rest of the analysis and reported in the text. A misprint was found in table 7: the value in the third column at four rows from the bottom should read 49.8, not 59.8. Finally, one of the authors was missing from the author list: C. Abstract: The cross sections for inelastic photoproduction of J/ψ and ψ′ mesons have been measured in ep collisions with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb−1 collected in the period 1996–2007. The ψ′ to J/ψ cross section ratio was measured in the range 0.55 0.9 and 60 190 GeV as a function of W, z and p T . Here W denotes the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, z is the fraction of the incident photon energy carried by the meson and p T is the transverse momentum of the meson with respect to the beam axis. The J/ψ cross sections were measured for 0.1 0.9, 60 240 GeV and p T > 1 GeV. Theoretical predictions within the non-relativistic QCD framework including NLO colour-singlet and colour-octet contributions were compared to the data, as were predictions based on the k T -factorisation approach.

Abstract: Charm production in deep inelastic ep scattering was measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 354 pb−1. Charm quarks were identified by reconstructing D ± mesons in the D ± → K ∓π±π± decay channel. Lifetime information was used to reduce combinatorial background substantially. Differential cross sections were measured in the kinematic region 5 < Q 2 < 1000 GeV2, 0.02 < y < 0.7, 1.5 < p T (D ±) < 15 GeV and |η(D ±)| < 1.6, where Q 2 is the photon virtuality, y is the inelasticity, and p T (D ±) and η(D ±) are the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity of the D ± meson, respectively. Next-to-leading-order QCD predictions are compared to the data. The charm contribution, $ F_2^{{c\overline{c}}} $ , to the proton structure-function F 2 was extracted.

Abstract: Measurements of open charm production cross sections in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA from the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations are combined. Reduced cross sections σredcc̄ for charm production are obtained in the kinematic range of photon virtuality 2. 5≤Q2≤2000 GeV2 and Bjorken scaling variable 3{dot operator}10-5≤x≤5{dot operator}10-2. The combination method accounts for the correlations of the systematic uncertainties among the different data sets. The combined charm data together with the combined inclusive deep-inelastic scattering cross sections from HERA are used as input for a detailed NLO QCD analysis to study the influence of different heavy flavour schemes on the parton distribution functions. The optimal values of the charm mass as a parameter in these different schemes are obtained. The implications on the NLO predictions for W± and Z production cross sections at the LHC are investigated. Abstract: Measurements of neutral current cross sections for deep inelastic scattering in e+p collisions at HERA with a longitudinally polarised positron beam are presented. The single-differential cross-sections d(sigma)/dQ2, d(sigma)/dx and d(sigma)/dy and the reduced cross-section were measured in the kinematic region Q2 > 185 GeV2 and y < 0.9, where Q2 is the four-momentum transfer squared, x the Bjorken scaling variable, and y the inelasticity of the interaction. The measurements were performed separately for positively and negatively polarised positron beams. The measurements are based on an integrated luminosity of 135.5 pb-1 collected with the ZEUS detector in 2006 and 2007 at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV. The structure functions F3 and F3(gamma)Z were determined by combining the e+p results presented in this paper with previously published e-p neutral current results. The asymmetry parameter A+ is used to demonstrate the parity violation predicted in electroweak interactions. Abstract: A combination of the inclusive diffractive cross section measurements made by the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations at HERA is presented. The analysis uses samples of diffractive deep inelastic ep scattering data at a centre-of-mass energy √s= 318 Gev where leading protons are detected by dedicated spectrometers. Correlations of systematic uncertainties are taken into account, resulting in an improved precision of the cross section measurement which reaches 6 % for the most precise points. The combined data cover the range 2.5 < Q 2 < 200 GeV 2 in photon virtuality, 0.00035 < xP < 0.09 in proton fractional momentum loss, 0.09, 0, H1 and ZEUS Collaborations, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published
