Abstract

The mechanical properties of an extracellular microenvironment can affect cell functions. The effects of elasticity and viscoelasticity on cell functions have been extensively studied with hydrogels of tunable mechanical properties. However, investigation of the viscosity effect on cell functions is still very limited and it can be tricky to explore how viscosity affects cells in three-dimensional (3D) culture due to the lack of appropriate tools. In this study, agarose hydrogel containers were prepared and used to encapsulate viscous media for 3D cell culture to investigate the viscosity effect on the functions of bovine articular chondrocytes (BACs). Polyethylene glycol of different molecular weights was used to adjust culture medium viscosity in a large range (72.8–679.2 mPa s). The viscosity affected gene expression and secretion of cartilagenious matrices, while it did not affect BAC proliferation. The BACs cultured in the lower viscosity medium (72.8 mPa s) showed a higher level of cartilaginous gene expression and matrix secretion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Narrow-band photodetectors based on halide perovskite have recently attracted significant attention due to their exceptional narrow-band detection performance and tunable absorption peaks covering a wide optical range. In this work, we report mixed-halide CH3NH3PbCl x Br3– x single crystal-based photodetectors have been fabricated, where the Cl/Br ratios were varied (3:0, 10:1, 5:1, 1:1, 1:7, 1:14 and 0:3). Vertical and parallel structures devices were fabricated which exhibited ultranarrow spectral responses under bottom illumination, with a full-width at half-maximum less than 16 nm. The observed performance can be ascribed to the unique carrier generation and extraction mechanisms within the single crystal under short and long wavelength of illumination. These findings offer valuable insights into the development of narrow-band photodetectors that do not necessitate the use of filters and hold tremendous potential for a diverse array of applications. Abstract

Cancer is one of the greatest challenges in medical science today as it poses a serious threat to human life. In view of this, myriad of therapeutic strategies are being developed for the treatment of cancer. Despite the use of various therapeutic approaches, they are still insufficient for the treatment of cancer. The rapid advancement of nanotechnology currently offers exciting possibilities for the creation of novel cancer therapy approaches. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging multifunctional nanomaterials that find prospective applications in the biomedical field owing to their porosity, large specific surface area, and diversified structures. Amongst varied categories of MOFs, Hf(IV)-based MOFs that have been developed since 2012 and currently have been finding new applications and hence this class of MOFs are gaining immense attention amongst the material and biomaterial chemists. Most importantly, Hf(IV)-MOFs comprising high Z–Hf metal content may be capable of offering new therapeutic options for cancer therapy, nonlinear optics, as fluorescent sensors, and photoresponsive devices. In this review, the progress in Hf(IV)-based MOFs for the treatment of cancer using radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, phototherapeutic techniques, or a combination of two or more of these techniques have been explored. Abstract

Cancer has become the second leading reason for death in the world. Still, cancer therapy development is exceptionally challenging because the tumor microenvironment is very complex, and individual tumors are very different. In recent years, researchers have found that platinum-based drugs in the form of metal complexes can effectively solve tumor resistance. In this regard, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as suitable carriers with high porosity are also exceptional in the biomedical field. Therefore, this article reviews the application of platinum as an anticancer drug and the composite anticancer properties of platinum and MOF materials and prospects for its future development, which provides a new direction for further research in the biomedical field. 90. Immune checkpoint inhibitors increase the risk of kidney transplant rejection: a real-world pharmacovigilance study

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackgroundKidney transplant recipients with cancer are at higher risk of kidney transplant rejection (KTR), and the safety of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is unclear. The present study investigates the relationship between ICIs and KTR using data from the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).Research design and methodsCase reports of KTR inducted by ICIs in FAERS from 1 January 2011, to 30 June 2021, were collected, and a disproportionate analysis was performed to assess the correlation between ICIs and KTR.ResultsA total of 99 cases of ICI-related KTR were reported in the FAERS database. Most of them were male patients (n = 63, 84.0%), and more than half of patients suffered from malignant melanoma (n = 46, 52.9%). The median onset time after the medication was 22 days, the withdrawal rates of ICIs were 78.0%, and the overall death rate was 29.3%. In general, there was a significant relevance between ICIs and KTR (ROR = 3.92[3.21–4.79] IC025 = 1.56), of which PD-1 was the most prominent (n = 81 ROR = 5.26[4.22–6.57] IC025 = 1.86).ConclusionsICIs may increase the risk of KTR in organ transplant recipients with cancer.

Abstract

The unified power flow controller (UPFC) is an excellent flexible alternating current transmission device, which has a wide range application in the power system. It can be expected that more UPFC engineering applications will be introduced to the power system in the future, and they will have an unignorable impact on the power grid. It is of great significance to analyse the influence of UPFC on power system energy conservation. First of all, the basic characteristics of UPFC are briefly introduced. Secondly, the influence of voltage quality, reactive power index, and energy saving after UPFC is introduced to the power system is analysed in detail from reactive power compensation and power flow regulation. Finally, comparison simulation of a three-machine nine-node system is simulated, the simulation results show that the power system with UPFC introduced can make the power flow distribution more reasonable, reduce the voltage sag, improve the voltage quality, and power transmission capacity, thus reducing the loss of the power system.

Abstract

There are some problems in the mapping from IEC61850 ACSI to MMS. A new specification for replacing MMS, called CMS for short, has been proposed by China. This paper introduces the technical route and technical improvement of CMS, analyzes the application of the PER and communication security mechanism. Through the minimum system, the communication performance of CMS and MMS in the substation was tested and compared. According to the test result, CMS can reduce approximately 40% bandwidth and the real-time performance is basically unchanged. The security mechanism of CMS is introduced and tested. The test result shows that applying security mechanism on application layer has little impact on the real-time performance, meanwhile applying security mechanism on transport layer influences a lot.

Abstract

At present, most substations are constructed based on IEC 61850 standard. The communication protocols in the station mainly include MMS, GOOSE and SMV, which are gradually exposed in engineering practice. Some deficiencies and potential safety hazards have emerged. For this reason, based on the MMS alternative protocol, the function and security of its implementation are introduced. In terms of functions, MMS alternative protocol adds multiple services and optimizes the deficiencies of the existing MMS protocol; for security, the application layer of the MMS alternative protocol implements two-way identity authentication based on the SM2 algorithm and despatching certificate, preventing unauthorized devices to prevent illegal access and attacks from the source of protocol; the transport layer of the MMS alternative protocol implements full link encryption and authentication based on the SM2 algorithm and despatching certificate to ensure the transmitted data message is antiforgery and non-repudiation and antitheft, protect the confidentiality and integrity of data messages. Therefore, the MMS alternative protocol has been greatly optimized on function, and the security authentication and transmission encryption mechanism of the protocol are focused on the security aspect. The final experimental results prove that the MMS alternative protocol has a certain reference significance in engineering applications.
