Abstract

Positron annihilation was used to probe vacancy-type defects in electrodeposited Cu films after nanosecond pulse laser annealing. For the as-deposited Cu film, we identified the coexistence of two different vacancy-type defects, vacancy clusters (such as V16) and monovacancy-type defects, coupled with impurities. An enlargement in the vacancy size was observed after the laser annealing process. The size of these defects was estimated to be close to V30, and such defects could not be formed by conventional furnace annealing. After furnace annealing at 400 °C, the size of the larger vacancy clusters decreased, but that of the smaller vacancies increased. The observed change in the sizes of vacancies is considered to be related to interactions between vacancies and impurities. The depth profile of the defects varied by changing the laser energy density and the number of laser shots. The impact of laser annealing on the vacancy-type defects was observed even after furnace annealing at 800 °C. Because the presence of point defects in electroplated Cu directly correlates with electromigration and grain growth, the ability of laser annealing to introduce large vacancy clusters in the localized region shows the potential of nanosecond laser annealing as a low-thermal budget process tool for back-end-of-line materials. Abstract

Obesity has become a major global problem that significantly confers an increased risk of developing life‐threatening complications, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, fatty liver disease and cardiovascular diseases. Protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) are enzymes that catalyse the methylation of target proteins. They are ubiquitous in eukaryotes and regulate transcription, splicing, cell metabolism and RNA biology. As a key, epigenetically modified enzyme, protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) is involved in obesity‐related metabolic processes, such as lipid metabolism, the insulin signalling pathway, energy balance and inflammation, and plays an important role in the pathology of obesity‐related metabolic disorders. This review summarizes recent research on the role of PRMT1 in obesity‐related metabolic disorders. The primary objective was to comprehensively elucidate the functional role and regulatory mechanisms of PRMT1. Moreover, this study attempts to review the pathogenesis of PRMT1‐mediated obesity‐related metabolic disorders, thereby offering pivotal information for further studies and clinical treatment. Abstract

Leading manufacturers have struggled to extend their green supply chain management (GSCM) efforts to low-tier (the second- and even lower-tier) suppliers, but how to motivate low-tier suppliers to be involved is still a big challenge. This paper develops a low-tier GSCM model for managing second-tier suppliers. Based on stakeholder theory and literature review, this paper develops 25 drivers for the ìnvolvement of second-tier suppliers in low-tier GSCM by a manufacturer. Using data collected from 29 second-tier suppliers of a leading automobile manufacturer, this study identified 17 critical drivers. The Grey-DEMATEL method was used to examine the cause-effect relationships to reveal prominent and elemental drivers. Based on the evaluation by managers from the manufacturer, one first-tier supplier, and six second-tier suppliers, comparative analysis of the DEMATEL results show that the manufacturer understands the prominent role of second-tier suppliers for its low-tier GSCM implementation while second-tier suppliers know little about the manufacturer's requirements and the first-tier supplier ignores the importance of internal drivers by second-tier suppliers. In the long term, the manufacturer considers itself as the crucial firm for low-tier GSCM, but according to first- and second-tier suppliers, promoting policies by the government such as GSCM-related demonstration projects are also elemental. This study provides directions for multi-tier GSCM studies on the theoretical development about how to effectively involve second-tier suppliers by unveiling the difference in the understanding of drivers among firms along supply chains.
