Abstract

Zn‐I2 batteries have attracted attention due to their low cost, safety, and environmental friendliness. However, their performance is still limited by the irreversible growth of Zn dendrites, hydrogen evolution reactions, corrosion, and shuttle effect of polyiodide. In this work, we have prepared a new porous polymer (CD‐Si) by nucleophilic reaction of β‐cyclodextrin with SiCl4, and CD‐Si is applied to the solid polymer electrolyte (denoted PEO/PVDF/CD‐Si) to solve above‐mentioned problems. Through the anchoring of the CD‐Si, a conductive network with dual transmission channels was successfully constructed. Due to the non‐covalent anchoring effect, the ionic conductivity of the solid polymer electrolytes (SPE) can reach 1.64×10−3 S cm−1 at 25 °C. The assembled symmetrical batteries can achieve highly reversible dendrite‐free galvanizing/stripping (stable cycling for 7500 h at 5 mA cm−2 and 1200 h at 20 mA cm−2). The solid‐state Zn‐I2 battery shows an ultra‐long life of over 35,000 cycles at 2 A g−1. Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to elucidate the working mechanism of CD‐Si in the polymer matrix. This work provides a novel strategy towards solid electrolytes for Zn‐I2 batteries. Abstract

This paper analyzes how housing prices affect innovation and entrepreneurship. We construct a city-level panel dataset including 281 cities between 2009 and 2019 by merging housing price data from China Statistical Yearbook for Regional Economy with innovation and entrepreneurship data from Peking University Open Research Data Platform. Our results suggest that housing prices are positively associated with the vitality of innovation and entrepreneurship (VIE). The results remain consistent with a series of robustness checks. We also find that rising house prices promote VIE through the wealth effect and the siphon effect. Spatial effect analysis further shows that housing prices not only positively affect the VIE of local cities, but also positively affect the VIE of neighboring cities. These findings imply the necessity of curbing the excessive rise of housing prices and decoupling public services and benefits related to homeownership. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Zn metal anode has drawn tremendous attention owing to its low cost and high volumetric capacity advantages. However, the commercial application of zinc‐based batteries is greatly deterred by Zn dendrite and severe side reactions. Interface modification is one of the most effective strategies to solve these issues. Herein, a facile iodine etching strategy to in situ construct a film‐coated 3D porous Zn anode is first proposed, which significantly reduces the nucleation overpotential of Zn while suppressing side reactions, thus resulting in uniform Zn deposition. Benefiting from the dual protection of surface coating and 3D porous Zn anode, the symmetric cell displays a long lifespan of over 5000 h at 1 mA cm–2, ≈40 times of bare Zn anode. The asymmetric cell with modified Zn anode also delivers excellent cycling stability for over 2000 cycles to achieve a high average Coulombic efficiency of 99.87%. Moreover, the capacity retention of a full battery coupled with ammonium vanadate cathode after 5000 cycles is up to 97.3%, which is much more stable than the bare Zn anode under the same condition (20%). Elevation of ZFAS1 correlated with advanced FIGO stage, lymph node and distant metastasis, and also indicated poor overall survival in patients with CC. Functional experiments demonstrated that ZFAS1 promoted CC cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro, and facilitated tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Mechanistic investigation revealed that ZAFS1 sequestered miR-647, and this RNA–RNA interaction is regulated by METLL3-mediated m6A modification.Conclusion: Our findings elucidate the functional roles of ZFAS1 and its m6A modification in CC cells and indicate that ZFAS1 may be a promising target for CC treatment.Keywords: m6A modification, ceRNA, growth, metastasis

79. Crystal Structures of SyndiotacticPolymethoxystyrene–Solvent Complexes Derived by X-ray Diffraction Data Analysis and Computer Simulation

Abstract

Syndiotacticpolymethoxystyrene (OMe-SPS) is one of the derivatives of industrially- important syndiotacticpolystyrene (SPS). The polar methoxy (OMe) groups substituted on the phenyl rings of SPS chains remarkably increase the solubility of SPS in the organic solvents. The solubility was found to change depending on the substitution position of the OMe units. In the cases of the para- and ortho-substitutions of OMe groups, such organic solvents as tetrahydrofuran (THF) and toluene (TOL) dissolve the polymer quite easily even at room temperature. On the other hand, the meta-substituted OMe units were found to form the crystalline complexes (δ form) between the polymers and solvents (THF and TOL) by exposing the original β-crystalline form in the solvent vapor atmosphere at room temperature. That is, different from the case of SPS, the solvent-induced β-to-δ phase transition was found to occur by the introduction of OMe side groups. The washing of these complexes with boiling methanol purges the solvent molecules from the complexes to result in the production of the so-called γ form. The X-ray diffraction data were analyzed quantitatively by the combination with the energy optimization technique so that stereochemically reasonable structure models were obtained, which reproduced the observed diffraction data relatively nicely. The structural relation between these complexes and the γ form has been discussed concretely.

95. Effect of Methoxy Side Groups on the Crystal Structures of a Series of SyndiotacticPolymethoxystyrenes as Studied by the X-ray Diffraction Data Analysis

Abstract

The crystal structures have been elucidated for a series of novel syndiotactic polymethoxystyrenes (OMe-SPSs) having −OCH3groups at the ortho-, meta-, or para-positions of phenyl rings on the basis of the detailed analyses of the two-dimensional X-ray diffraction patterns of the highly oriented and highly crystalline samples. The ortho-OMe-SPS has a monoclinic-type unit cell of a= 11.60 Å, b= 17.90 Å, c(fiber axis) = 7.72 Å, and β = 99°, in which the two 21helical chains of TTGGconformation are packed with the space group P1211. The unit cell of the meta-OMe-SPS is of the monoclinic type with a= 16.20 Å, b= 14.39 Å, c(f. a.) = 10.12 Å, and β = 90°. The four all-trans zigzag chains are packed in the cell with the space group P1121. The para-OMe-SPS takes a large monoclinic unit cell of a= 16.80 Å, b= 29.00 Å, c(f. a.) = 10.12 Å, and β = 80°, in which the eight chains of trans-zigzag conformation (TTTT) are packed with P121/c1 space group symmetry. For both of meta- and para-OMe-SPS, the crystal structure is disordered in the chain packing mode and chain conformation. The existence of the OCH3side groups and their positions have been found to play an important role in the determination of the chain conformation and chain packing mode in comparison with the crystal structures of SPS.

99. A deletion mutation in TaHRCconfers Fhb1resistance to Fusarium head blight in wheat

Abstract

Fusarium head blight (FHB), which is mainly caused by Fusarium graminearum, is a destructive wheat disease that threatens global wheat production. Fhb1, a quantitative trait locus discovered in Chinese germplasm, provides the most stable and the largest effect on FHB resistance in wheat. Here we show that TaHRC, a gene that encodes a putative histidine-rich calcium-binding protein, is the key determinant of Fhb1-mediated resistance to FHB. We demonstrate that TaHRCencodes a nuclear protein conferring FHB susceptibility and that a deletion spanning the start codon of this gene results in FHB resistance. Identical sequences of the TaHRC-Rallele in diverse accessions indicate that Fhb1had a single origin, and phylogenetic and haplotype analyses suggest that the TaHRC-Rallele most likely originated from a line carrying the Dahongpao haplotype. This discovery opens a new avenue to improve FHB resistance in wheat, and possibly in other cereal crops, by manipulating TaHRCsequence through bioengineering approaches. Genetic studies using map-based cloning, gene editing, RNA interference, haplotyping and association analyses identify a deletion in TaHRCas a key determinant of Fhb1-mediated resistance to Fusarium head blight in wheat.

100. Enhanced Password Security on Mobile Devices

Abstract

Sleek and powerful touchscreen devices with continuous access to high-bandwidth wireless data networks have transformed mobile into a first-class development platform. Many applications (i.e., "apps") written for these platforms rely on remote services such as Dropbox, Facebook, and Twitter, and require users to provide one or more passwords upon installation. Unfortunately, today's mobile platforms provide no protection for users' passwords, even as mobile devices have become attractive targets for password-stealing malware and other phishing attacks.This dissertation explores the feasibility of providing strong protections for passwords input on mobile devices without requiring large changes to existing apps.We propose two approaches to secure password entry on mobile devices: ScreenPass and VeriUI. ScreenPass is integrated with a device's operating system and continuously monitors the device's screen to prevent malicious apps from spoofing the system's trusted software keyboard. The trusted keyboard ensures that ScreenPass always knows when a password is input, which allows it to prevent apps from sending password data to the untrusted servers. VeriUI relies on trusted hardware to isolate password handling from a device's operating system and apps. This approach allows VeriUI to prove to remote services that a relatively small and well-known code base directly handled a user's password data.
