ObjectiveTo assess the validity of the Broselow tape in estimating the weight of Chinese children in pediatric emergency.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted in the emergency department of the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China) in March 2022. Broselow tape was used to estimate weight and its validity was compared with the advanced child life support (APLS) method.ResultsThe study included 442 children (mean age: 48 months; male-to-female ratio: 1.13:1). The < 10, 10–19 and > 19-kg groups included 44, 257, and 141 children, respectively. The color concordance rates of the Broselow tape-estimated weight in the three groups were 56.8, 57.2, and 68.1%, respectively. The percentage of weight estimations within 10% of actual weight were 65.8% (59.1, 65.8, and 68.1% for the 19-kg groups, respectively) and 44.8% (40.9, 50.6, and 35.5% for the < 10, 10–19 and > 19-kg groups, respectively) using the Broselow tape and the APLS method, respectively. The correlation between the Broselow tape estimated weight and actual weight was r = 0.931 (P < 0.0001, 95% CI: 0.918–0.943), while the correlation between actual weight and the APLS method calculated weight was r = 0.883 (P < 0.0001, 95% CI: 0.861–0.902). The mean percentage error using the Broselow tape was 1.0 ± 12.0% (P < 0.001 vs. −7.2 ± 17.2% of the APLS method).ConclusionThe Broselow tape may be an available method for predicting the weights of Chinese children in pediatric emergency.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the epidemiology of unintentional injury in children admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in China mainland. METHODS: A total of 39 hospitals in 19 provinces contributed to the 1-day point prevalence study of serious unintentional injury in children aged 0–16 years admitted to ICU. RESULTS: A total of 1,017 patients from the 39 participating ICUs on the study day were included. Among them, 56 pediatric patients were identified to be suffered from unintentional injury from 18 participating ICUs, accounting for 5.5% (56/1,017) of all the ICU patients. The percentage of boys was more than twice the percentage of girls. Most patients had an age of less than 6 years old (n=42, 75%). The leading cause of unintentional injury was fall (n=17, 30.4%). The patterns of unintentional injury in children were age-related. There were no urban-rural differences in our cohort. The injury happened on 12:00–18:00 PM in 27 cases (48.2%), and 28 patients (50%) had injuries happened at working day. 35 patients (62.5%) received primary treatment at local hospitals. Thirty-five patients (62.5%) needed resuscitation in the emergency department, 15 patients (26.8%) still needed resuscitation in ICU. These 56 children suffered from a total of 106 lesions corresponding to 1.89 lesions per patient. Respiratory failure was most commonly seen (n=18, 32.1%). There was no death in our cohort during the study. After effective treatment during their ICU stay, 45 (80.4%) patients showed improvement, with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS) and Pediatric Risk of Mortality III (PRISM III) score significantly better than those before treatment (P

The measurement of the 124Xe(n, 2n)123Xe reaction cross section at 14.8 MeV neutron has been performed by the activation method. Quasi monoenergetic neutron beams were produced at the Cockcroft Walton Accelerator of China Institute of Atomic Energy, by the T(d, n)4He reaction. A cell made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) was used as the container of 124Xe (99.95% abundance) gas, and the mass of 124Xe in cell was determined by weighing method. Two high-purity thin 93Nb foils were attached to the cell and performed as monitors of the neutron flux determination by 93Nb(n, 2n)92mNb reaction. After the irradiation, the activities of 123Xe and 92mNb were measured by off-line gamma-ray spectrometric technique using a pre-calibrated HPGe detector. As a result, the cross section has been deduced at 14.8 MeV, and the result was compared with the literature data and evaluations.

In order to deeply understand the propagation characteristics of high frequency signals, such as partial discharges in cables, lightning impulses and switching transients, and for improve the measurement and location accuracy of power cable partial discharge signal, based on the classical transmission line theory, a mathematical model of 10 kV crosslinking polyethylene (XLPE) power cable is established in this paper. The transmission line equations of established model are set up and solved using Kirchhoff's law to obtain the characteristics of power cable wave. By means of comparison and analysis on characteristic parameter curve between the established model and classical transmission line model, the feasibility and accuracy of established power cable mathematical model in this paper are verified.
