This paper investigates the failure processes of recycled aggregate concrete by a model test and numerical simulations. A micromechanical numerical modeling approach to simulate the progressive cracking behavior of the modeled recycled aggregate concrete, considering its actual meso-structures, is established based on the discrete element method (DEM). The determination procedure of contact microparameters is analyzed, and a series of microscopic contact parameters for different components of modeled recycled aggregate concrete (MRAC) is calibrated using nanoindentation test results. The complete stress&ndash, strain curves, cracking process, and failure pattern of the numerical model are verified by the experimental results, proving their accuracy and validation. The initiation, growth, interaction, coalescence of microcracks, and subsequent macroscopic failure of the MRAC specimen are captured through DEM numerical simulations and compared with digital image correlation (DIC) results. The typical cracking modes controlled by meso-structures of MRAC are concluded according to numerical observations. A parameter study indicates the dominant influence of the macroscopic mechanical behaviors from the shear strength of the interfacial transition zones (ITZs).

We present an investigation on the spectrum broadening in continuous-wave, sub-nanometer linewidth high power fiber amplifiers caused by the multiple four-wave mixing (FWM) process. The spectrum broadening employing two different types of narrow linewidth seeds, including the multi-longitudinal-mode seed and the broadened single frequency seed generated by high speed phase modulation, is studied. It is shown both theoretically and experimentally that the multi-longitudinal-mode seed experiences serious spectrum broadening induced by the FWM among various longitudinal modes, while the modulated seed can maintain the spectrum profile during the amplifying process even with some noise fluctuation. The different broadening results are mainly caused by the random phase distribution of the multiple waves. It is further explained by an exact solution of the degenerate FWM with three waves. The theoretical predictions on the spectrum and power dependence of the output laser linewidth are in quantitative agreement with the experimental results up to kilowatt.

We report on the hybrid beam combination of five unpolarized fiber lasers with the output power of 5.02 kW. Each fiber laser provides the output with average power of 1.1 kW and full width half maximum (FWHM) linewidth of 0.3 nm. The five beams with different wavelength are first split into two orthogonal linear polarizations, spectrally combined by dual multilayer dielectric (MLD) diffraction gratings in turn, finally combined into a single beam using a polarization beam combiner. This hybrid system features a combining efficiency of 91.2%, the beam quality of M2=2.96×1.52, and excellent prospects for significant power scaling.

The seed source with spectral linewidth broadening via phase modulation is potential to achieve the higher output power with effective SBS suppression. However, self-pulsing from the amplifier output is harmful. In this work, we study the self-pulsing characteristics in a long single-mode fiber with lower self-pulsing threshold instead of the high power amplifier. We provide a powerful experimental support for the self-pulsing mechanism in high-power narrow-linewidth fiber lasers, which is important for further output power scaling.

The aim of this paper is to solve the control problem of trajectory tracking of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) through using and improving deep reinforcement learning (DRL). The deep reinforcement learning of an underwater motion control system is composed of two neural networks: one network selects action and the other evaluates whether the selected action is accurate, and they modify themselves through a deep deterministic policy gradient(DDPG). These two neural networks are made up of multiple fully connected layers. Based on theories and simulations, this algorithm is more accurate than traditional PID control in solving the trajectory tracking of AUV in complex curves to a certain precision.

A spectral beam combination(SBC) system with dual Multi-Layer Dielectric(MLD) grating dispersion compensation configuration, which can combine multiple fiber lasers into a common aperture beam with high beam quality and relax the linewidth requirement of the individual fiber laser, has become gradually one of the most important technique route of fiber laser beam combining. The basic principle and the key technologies of the SBC system with dual-MLD-grating configuration were introduced and analyzed briefly. The recent progress of the main key technologies about high power beam combinable narrow linewidth fiber laser, high power high efficiency short wavelength narrow linewidth fiber laser, large dispersion high efficiency MLD grating and high integration dense beam combining were reviewed. The recent progress on the key technologies of SBC with dual-MLD-configuration in Institute of Applied Electronics, China Academy of Engineering Physics, were also presented. The potential of the SBC with dual-MLD-configuration was prospected.
