Abstract

This paper describes estimation of the regression parameters and prediction of the cumulative incidence functions under the cause-specific proportional hazards model when some of covariates are not fully observed. Assuming that missingness mechanism is missing at random, we propose the augmented inverse probability weighted method for estimation and inference procedures. A nonparametric regression approach is adapted for estimating selection probabilities and conditional expectations of missing covariates in the augmented estimating function. We establish the asymptotic properties of the predicted cumulative incidence functions under the cause-specific proportional hazards model with missing covariates and derive consistent variance estimators of the predicted cumulative incidence functions. Simulation studies show that the procedures perform well. The proposed methods are illustrated with stage IV breast cancer data obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program of the National Cancer Institute. 57. Study of the Factors Influencing Child's Development in Day Care Center: Developing Strategies for High-Quality Program.

Abstract

Noting that day care is a tangible facet of American family life, this paper examines the essential components of quality child care, presents strategies for improving child care quality, and discusses social policies and issues related to quality child care. The paper first examines six criteria, proposed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), for judging day care quality: (1) staff-child ratios; (2) group size; (3) caregiver qualifications; (4) caregiver stability and continuity; (5) structure and content of daily activities; and (6) space and facilities. To determine the effect of day care on young children, researchers examine progress in verbal, cognitive, and social skills, and appropriate achievement in emotional and physical health. Reviewing the literature, the paper finds that early childhood educators are concerned with the intellectual, physical, and social aspects of child development as a result of day care. The paper then details strategies for improving the quality of child care: (1) supporting low-income children and families; (2) training of child care staff; (3) accreditation of model programs; (4) fiscal regulations; (5) licensing regulation; and (6) child care information and referral. To achieve quality day care, the paper offers the following recommendations: (1) increased federal financial subsidies for low-income families; (2) upgraded compensation and training of child care staff; (3) state and local standards for child care quality; and (4) expansion of resource and referral services. Abstract

This study aims to examine the thermophysical properties and heat storage/retrieval properties of [HMIM][Tf2N], [HMIM][BF4], and [HMIM][PF6] ionic liquids containing [HMIM]+cation-based. The experiments involve the analysis of thermal conductivity, specific heat, heat storage/retrieval characteristics, and surface tension. Based on these findings, the molar volume and volatilisation enthalpy were calculated. Additionally, a numerical analysis was conducted on [HMIM][Tf2N], [HMIM][BF4], and [HMIM][PF6] ionic liquids, and the vapour-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of R-134a to confirm the feasibility of thermal energy storage through evaporation latent heat recovery.

Abstract

Knowledge's effect on behavioral responses in a health crisis has been a point of inquiry in many empirical studies that obtained significant findings. However, a variety of knowledge types has been considered in these studies rarely. This study compared the effect of declarative vs. procedural knowledge on behavioral responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, we examined whether outrage factors, which refer to perceived risk characteristics that are likely to elicit emotional responses, can moderate cognitive knowledge's effect. Data were collected with a survey conducted five months after the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in South Korea. A total of 1,000 respondents completed questions on the two types of knowledge, risk perception, and health behaviors in the pandemic crisis, and three different outrage factors. The results showed that procedural knowledge on how-to-do something was associated significantly with the health behaviors in the crisis, while the declarative knowledge that involves knowing that "something is the case" was not. Further, the outrage factors moderated knowledge's effect in such a way that procedural knowledge's influence on health behaviors diminished when the respondents perceived that the pandemic was uncontrollable. On the other hand, procedural knowledge's effect increased when the outrage factor of fairness was heightened. Abstract

Angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL) represents a distinct, aggressive form of peripheral T cell lymphoma with a dismal prognosis. Recent exome sequencing in patients with AITL has revealed the frequent coexistence of somatic mutations in the Rho GTPase RhoA ([RhoA.sup.G17V]) and loss-of-function mutations in the 5-methylcytosine oxidase TET2. Here, we have demonstrated that TET2 loss and [RhoA.sup.G17V] expression in mature murine T cells cooperatively cause abnormal [CD4.sup.+] T cell proliferation and differentiation by perturbing FoxO1 gene expression, phosphorylation, and subcellular localization, an abnormality that is also detected in human primary AITL tumor samples. Reexpression of FoxO1 attenuated aberrant immune responses induced in mouse models adoptively transferred with T cells and bearing genetic lesions in both TET2 and RhoA.
