51. Stevens-Johnson syndrome/TEN induced by lamotrigine in a patient with a cerebral cavernous malformation: a case report

Abstract: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare but serious cutaneous reactions characterized by epidermal and mucocutaneous detachment, most often drug-induced. SJS and TEN are considered the opposite extremes of the same spectrum of disease, where the percentage of skin involvement is 30% in TEN; the in-between range is called a SJS/TEN overlap. We present the case of a 64-year-old patient who was treated with lamotrigine, an anti-epileptic drug, and developed SJS/TEN. After being hospitalized and recovering for three days due to the worsening of the clinical presentation, he was transferred to a burn center. Making an early diagnosis and identifying the indicated drug is extremely important to set the appropriate treatment and reduce mortality. Advanced supportive care is required.

Abstract: The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a large liquid scintillator detector designed to explore many topics in fundamental physics. In this paper, the potential on searching for proton decay in $p\to \bar\nu K^+$ mode with JUNO is investigated.The kaon and its decay particles feature a clear three-fold coincidence signature that results in a high efficiency for identification. Moreover, the excellent energy resolution of JUNO permits to suppress the sizable background caused by other delayed signals. Based on these advantages, the detection efficiency for the proton decay via $p\to \bar\nu K^+$ is 36.9% with a background level of 0.2 events after 10 years of data taking. The estimated sensitivity based on 200 kton-years exposure is $9.6 \times 10^{33}$ years, competitive with the current best limits on the proton lifetime in this channel., Comment: 14 pages, 12 figures, an author added

Abstract: As a key feature, NASA's Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and ESA-NASA's Solar Orbiter (SO) missions cooperate to trace solar wind and transients from their sources on the Sun to the inner interplanetary space. The goal of this work is to accurately reconstruct the interplanetary Parker spiral and the connection between coronal features observed remotely by the Metis coronagraph on-board SO and those detected in situ by PSP at the time of the first PSP-SO quadrature of January 2021. We use the Reverse In-situ and MHD Approach (RIMAP), a hybrid analytical-numerical method performing data-driven reconstructions of the Parker spiral. RIMAP solves the MHD equations on the equatorial plane with the PLUTO code, using the measurements collected by PSP between 0.1 and 0.2 AU as boundary conditions. Our reconstruction connects density and wind speed measurements provided by Metis (3-6 solar radii) to those acquired by PSP (21.5 solar radii) along a single streamline. The capability of our MHD model to connect the inner corona observed by Metis and the super Alfv\'enic wind measured by PSP, not only confirms the research pathways provided by multi-spacecraft observations, but also the validity and accuracy of RIMAP reconstructions as a possible test bench to verify models of transient phenomena propagating across the heliosphere, such as coronal mass ejections, solar energetic particles and solar wind switchbacks., Comment: Astronomy & Astrophysics, Solar Orbiter First Results (Nominal Mission Phase), (in press) DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/202244535

55. Multi-Speaker and Wide-Band Simulated Conversations as Training Data for End-to-End Neural Diarization

Abstract: End-to-end diarization presents an attractive alternative to standard cascaded diarization systems because a single system can handle all aspects of the task at once. Many flavors of end-to-end models have been proposed but all of them require (so far non-existing) large amounts of annotated data for training. The compromise solution consists in generating synthetic data and the recently proposed simulated conversations (SC) have shown remarkable improvements over the original simulated mixtures (SM). In this work, we create SC with multiple speakers per conversation and show that they allow for substantially better performance than SM, also reducing the dependence on a fine-tuning stage. We also create SC with wide-band public audio sources and present an analysis on several evaluation sets. Abstract: The physics potential of detecting $^8$B solar neutrinos will be exploited at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), in a model independent manner by using three distinct channels of the charged-current (CC), neutral-current (NC) and elastic scattering (ES) interactions. Due to the largest-ever mass of $^{13}$C nuclei in the liquid-scintillator detectors and the {expected} low background level, $^8$B solar neutrinos would be observable in the CC and NC interactions on $^{13}$C for the first time. By virtue of optimized event selections and muon veto strategies, backgrounds from the accidental coincidence, muon-induced isotopes, and external backgrounds can be greatly suppressed. Excellent signal-to-background ratios can be achieved in the CC, NC and ES channels to guarantee the $^8$B solar neutrino observation. From the sensitivity studies performed in this work, we show that JUNO, with ten years of data, can reach the {1$\sigma$} precision levels of 5%, 8% and 20% for the $^8$B neutrino flux, $\sin^2\theta_{12}$, and $\Delta m^2_{21}$, respectively. It would be unique and helpful to probe the details of both solar physics and neutrino physics. Abstract: Abstract Bose-Einstein condensates of ultracold atoms serve as low-entropy sources for a multitude of quantum-science applications, ranging from quantum simulation and quantum many-body physics to proof-of-principle experiments in quantum metrology and quantum computing. For stability reasons, in the majority of cases the energetically lowest-lying atomic spin state is used. Here, we report the Bose-Einstein condensation of caesium atoms in the Zeeman-excited m f = 2 state, realizing a non-ground-state Bose-Einstein condensate with tunable interactions and tunable loss. We identify two regions of magnetic field in which the two-body relaxation rate is low enough that condensation is possible. We characterize the phase transition and quantify the loss processes, finding unusually high three-body losses in one of the two regions. Our results open up new possibilities for the mixing of quantum-degenerate gases, for polaron and impurity physics, and in particular for the study of impurity transport in strongly correlated one-dimensional quantum wires.

Abstract: Objective: Translate, adapt, and validate the Anterior Skull Base Nasal Inventory 12 questionnaire (ASK Nasal-12) to Brazilian Portuguese. Methods: A prospective longitudinal observational study was developed at the Skull Base Surgery Center clinic of the Irmandade Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo. There were five stages to translating the original ASK-12 questionnaire: two independent translations, consensus between the two, back-translation, comparison, and revision for the semi-final version. Internal consistency, reliability, and validation with a previous already validate questionnaire were all assessed. Results: Over 30 months 72 patients in total were included in the study, of which six had to be excluded afterwards according to the research criteria. The internal consistency using Cronbach’s Alpha was calculated and successful. Next the reliability and agreement between the test and retest were analyzed. The Minimally Important Clinical Difference (MCID) was calculated for the 13 scores at each of the four time points. Finally, the final translated version was validated with the SNOT-22 questionnaire. Conclusion: The translation, adaptation, and validation of the ASK Nasal-12 questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese appear consistent and effective regarding its cultural equivalence for monitoring the QOL of patients undergoing transnasal access for endoscopic anterior skull base surgeries. 59. Observation of confinement-induced resonances in a 3D lattice

Abstract: We report on the observation of confinement-induced resonances for strong three-dimensional (3D) confinement in a lattice potential. Starting from a Mott-insulator state with predominantly single-site occupancy, we detect loss and heating features at specific values for the confinement length and the 3D scattering length. Two independent models, based on the coupling between the center-of-mass and the relative motion of the particles as mediated by the lattice, predict the resonance positions to a good approximation, suggesting a universal behavior. Our results extend confinement-induced resonances to any dimensionality and open up an alternative method for interaction tuning and controlled molecule formation under strong 3D confinement., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

60. Machine-learning Based Screening of Lead-free Halide Double Perovskites for Photovoltaic Applications

Abstract: Lead-free halide double perovskites are promising stable and non-toxic alternatives to methylammonium lead iodide in the field of photovoltaics. In this context, the most commonly used double perovskite is Cs$_2$AgBiBr$_6$, due to its favorable charge transport properties. However, the maximum power conversion efficiency obtained for this material does not exceed 3\%, as a consequence of its wide indirect gap and its intrinsic and extrinsic defects. On the other hand, the materials space that arises from the substitution of different elements in the 4 lattice sites of this structure is large and still mostly unexplored. In this work a neural network is used to predict the band gap of double perovskites from an initial space of 7056 structures and select candidates suitable for visible light absorption. Successive hybrid DFT calculations are used to evaluate the thermodynamic stability, the power conversion efficiency and the effective masses of the selected compounds, and to propose novel potential solar absorbers.

61. Targeting z-Crystallin by aspirin restores the sensitivity to cisplatin in resistant A2780 ovarian cancer cells

Abstract: Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynaecologic malignancies worldwide. Platinum based chemotherapy is the mainstay treatment for ovarian cancer; however, frequent recurrence and chemoresistance onset in patients with advanced diseases remain a therapeutic challenge. Although mechanisms underlying the development of chemoresistance are still ambiguous, the B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) family is closely associated with chemoresistance in ovarian cancer. We previously disclosed that Zeta-Crystallin (CryZ) is a post-transcriptional regulator of Bcl-2 gene expression, by binding to Bcl-2 mRNA and increasing its half-life. Here, we investigated the role of CryZ as a novel therapeutic target in A2780 ovarian carcinoma cells by modulating the protein activity with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) to restore chemosensitivity. Molecular docking and fragment-mapping based approach revealed potential interaction of ASA within CryZ protein. Inhibition of CryZ binding activity to Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl mRNA targets by ASA was demonstrated in A375 cells. Cytotoxicity assays were conducted in A2780S and A2780R ovarian cancer cells to evaluate if CryZ binding activity inhibition and CryZ silencing were able to reverse cisplatin resistance. ASA-treatment determined a downregulation of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl mRNA levels in A2780S and A2780R cells. ASA-treatment or CryZ silencing were able to increase and restore the chemosensitivity in both sensitive and resistant A2780 ovarian cancer cells, respectively. In this research article we demonstrated that the pharmacological or genetic inhibition of CryZ restores the sensitivity to cisplatin in a model of sensitive or resistant ovarian cancer cells. These findings suggest a new gene-targeted chemotherapeutic approach to restore the cytotoxicity in drug-resistant ovarian cancers and increase the sensitivity in non-resistant cells.

Abstract: Switchbacks are sudden, large radial deflections of the solar wind magnetic field, widely revealed in interplanetary space by the Parker Solar Probe. The switchbacks' formation mechanism and sources are still unresolved, although candidate mechanisms include Alfv\'enic turbulence, shear-driven Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities, interchange reconnection, and geometrical effects related to the Parker spiral. This Letter presents observations from the Metis coronagraph onboard Solar Orbiter of a single large propagating S-shaped vortex, interpreted as first evidence of a switchback in the solar corona. It originated above an active region with the related loop system bounded by open-field regions to the East and West. Observations, modeling, and theory provide strong arguments in favor of the interchange reconnection origin of switchbacks. Metis measurements suggest that the initiation of the switchback may also be an indicator of the origin of slow solar wind.

Abstract: We present the detection potential for the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB) at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), using the inverse-beta-decay (IBD) detection channel on free protons. We employ the latest information on the DSNB flux predictions, and investigate in detail the background and its reduction for the DSNB search at JUNO. The atmospheric neutrino induced neutral current (NC) background turns out to be the most critical background, whose uncertainty is carefully evaluated from both the spread of model predictions and an envisaged \textit{in situ} measurement. We also make a careful study on the background suppression with the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) and triple coincidence (TC) cuts. With latest DSNB signal predictions, more realistic background evaluation and PSD efficiency optimization, and additional TC cut, JUNO can reach the significance of 3$\sigma$ for 3 years of data taking, and achieve better than 5$\sigma$ after 10 years for a reference DSNB model. In the pessimistic scenario of non-observation, JUNO would strongly improve the limits and exclude a significant region of the model parameter space., Comment: 29 pages, 11 figures, final published version in JCAP

Abstract: Main goal of the JUNO experiment is to determine the neutrino mass ordering using a 20kt liquid-scintillator detector. Its key feature is an excellent energy resolution of at least 3 % at 1 MeV, for which its instruments need to meet a certain quality and thus have to be fully characterized. More than 20,000 20-inch PMTs have been received and assessed by JUNO after a detailed testing program which began in 2017 and elapsed for about four years. Based on this mass characterization and a set of specific requirements, a good quality of all accepted PMTs could be ascertained. This paper presents the performed testing procedure with the designed testing systems as well as the statistical characteristics of all 20-inch PMTs intended to be used in the JUNO experiment, covering more than fifteen performance parameters including the photocathode uniformity. This constitutes the largest sample of 20-inch PMTs ever produced and studied in detail to date, i.e. 15,000 of the newly developed 20-inch MCP-PMTs from Northern Night Vision Technology Co. (NNVT) and 5,000 of dynode PMTs from Hamamatsu Photonics K. K.(HPK).

Abstract: JUNO is a multi-purpose neutrino observatory under construction in the south of China. This publication presents new sensitivity estimates for the measurement of the $\Delta m^2_{31}$, $\Delta m^2_{21}$, $\sin^2 \theta_{12}$, and $\sin^2 \theta_{13}$ oscillation parameters using reactor antineutrinos, which is one of the primary physics goals of the experiment. The sensitivities are obtained using the best knowledge available to date on the location and overburden of the experimental site, the nuclear reactors in the surrounding area and beyond, the detector response uncertainties, and the reactor antineutrino spectral shape constraints expected from the TAO satellite detector. It is found that the $\Delta m^2_{31}$, $\Delta m^2_{21}$, and $\sin^2 \theta_{12}$ oscillation parameters will be determined to better than 0.5% precision in six years of data collection, which represents approximately an order of magnitude improvement over existing constraints., Comment: 29 pages, 10 figures, submitted to Chinese Physics C

Abstract: End-to-end neural diarization (EEND) is nowadays one of the most prominent research topics in speaker diarization. EEND presents an attractive alternative to standard cascaded diarization systems since a single system is trained at once to deal with the whole diarization problem. Several EEND variants and approaches are being proposed, however, all these models require large amounts of annotated data for training but available annotated data are scarce. Thus, EEND works have used mostly simulated mixtures for training. However, simulated mixtures do not resemble real conversations in many aspects. In this work we present an alternative method for creating synthetic conversations that resemble real ones by using statistics about distributions of pauses and overlaps estimated on genuine conversations. Furthermore, we analyze the effect of the source of the statistics, different augmentations and amounts of data. We demonstrate that our approach performs substantially better than the original one, while reducing the dependence on the fine-tuning stage. Experiments are carried out on 2-speaker telephone conversations of Callhome and DIHARD 3. Abstract: On February 12, 2021 two subsequent eruptions occurred above the West limb, as seen along the Sun-Earth line. The first event was a typical slow Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), followed $\sim 7$ hours later by a smaller and collimated prominence eruption, originating Southward with respect to the CME, followed by a plasma blob. These events were observed not only by SOHO and STEREO-A missions, but also by the suite of remote sensing instruments on-board Solar Orbiter (SolO). This work shows how data acquired by the Full Sun Imager (FSI), Metis coronagraph, and Heliospheric Imager (SoloHI) from the SolO perspective can be combined to study the eruptions and the different source regions. Moreover, we show how Metis data can be analyzed to provide new information about solar eruptions. Different 3D reconstruction methods were applied to the data acquired by different spacecraft including remote sensing instruments on-board SolO. Images acquired by both Metis channels in the Visible Light (VL) and H I Lyman$-\alpha$ line (UV) were combined to derive physical information on the expanding plasma. The polarization ratio technique was also applied for the first time to the Metis images acquired in the VL channel. The two eruptions were followed in 3D from their source region to their expansion in the intermediate corona. Thanks to the combination of VL and UV Metis data, the formation of a post-CME Current Sheet (CS) was followed for the first time in the intermediate corona. The plasma temperature gradient across a post-CME blob propagating along the CS was also measured for the first time. Application of the polarization ratio technique to Metis data shows that, thanks to the combination of four different polarization measurements, the errors are reduced by $\sim 5-7$\%, thus better constraining the 3D distribution of plasma., Comment: 15 pages, 14 figures, accepted for publication on A&A

76. Advisor Understanding of Their Roles in the Advisory System: A Comparison of Governance Structures in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, and New Zealand

Abstract: Purpose: Explore advisor understanding of their roles in advisory systems characterised by differing mixes of public and private funding and delivery. Methodology: A systems perspective of advisory system governance is combined with an individual perspective of advisor roles. Data from a survey of 38 Australian, 19 New Zealand, 606 Argentine and 279 Brazilian respondents were analysed for statistical differences. Findings: In all contexts, advisor priorities reflect state or industry goals. Where there is more private funding and delivery, advisors also prioritise farmer commercial goals. Under public extension funding and delivery, group methods and capacity building are emphasised to reach many farmers and realise public goals. Practical implications: Advisors play a crucial role in reconciling competing national, industry and farmer goals at the farm-level. This emphasises participatory methods and intermediary positions in the advisory system to facilitate dialogue and support farmers to realise competing goals. A policy implication is public and industry funding is needed for advisors to engage with public and industry organisations to understand and contribute to policies and objectives they will be advising on. Theoretical implications: Combining a systems perspective of country-level advisory system governance with an individual perspective of advisor roles highlights that advisor understanding of their roles are related to the public governance context in which they operate. Originality/value: The advisor understanding of their roles in the advisory system is related to different governance of pluralistic advisory systems. This contributes to articulating advisory policies and practices to support coordination and inclusion in pluralistic advisory systems.

77. Factors Contributing to Rural Extension Agents' Support for a Transfer of Technology (ToT) Approach: A Multiple Linear Regression Analysis

Abstract: Purpose: This article aims at identifying the individual factors and socio-demographic variables contributing to extension agents' support for a ToT extension approach. Design/Methodology/Approach: A multiple linear regression analysis was conducted using samples of extension agents from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Nigeria. Findings: The main factors explaining the support to a ToT extension approach are: the tendency to blame farmers, understanding extension as a participatory process of dialogue and inter-institutional coordination, prioritizing the modernization of farmers' production, and supporting conventional modern agriculture. The main factors reducing the support for a ToT approach are having a self-critical attitude, prioritizing the creation and strengthening of farmer organizations, having a university degree, and being an experienced extension agent. Practical Implications: The results are useful for institutions interested in changing the profile of their extension personnel and in moving away from a ToT extension approach. Theoretical Implications: Extension agents supporting a ToT approach assume that they know what is best for farmers without really acknowledging them as experienced individuals with self-determination and rationale of their own. The development of a self-critical attitude, resulting from field experience and reflection on practice seems to play a key role in questioning the assumptions of the ToT extension approach. Originality/Value: This is the first study to analyze the factors contributing to extension agents' support for a ToT approach conducted using a multiple linear regression.

Abstract: We study damping signatures at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a medium-baseline reactor neutrino oscillation experiment. These damping signatures are motivated by various new physics models, including quantum decoherence, $\nu_3$ decay, neutrino absorption, and wave packet decoherence. The phenomenological effects of these models can be characterized by exponential damping factors at the probability level. We assess how well JUNO can constrain these damping parameters and how to disentangle these different damping signatures at JUNO. Abstract: We present a new correlation method for deriving the F-corona intensity distribution, which is based on the analysis of the evolution of the total and polarized visible light (VL) images. We studied the one-month variation profiles of the total and polarized brightness acquired with Large Angle Spectrometric COronagraph (LASCO-C2) and found that in some regions they are highly correlated. Assuming that the F-corona does not vary significantly on a timescale of one month, we estimated its intensity in the high-correlation regions and reconstructed the corresponding intensity maps both during the solar-minimum and solar-maximum periods. Systematic uncertainties were estimated by performing dedicated simulations. We compared the resulting F-corona images with those determined using the inversion technique and found that the correlation method provides a smoother intensity distribution. We also obtained that the F-corona images calculated for consecutive months show no significant variation. Abstract: This Letter addresses the first Solar Orbiter (SO) -- Parker Solar Probe (PSP) quadrature, occurring on January 18, 2021, to investigate the evolution of solar wind from the extended corona to the inner heliosphere. Assuming ballistic propagation, the same plasma volume observed remotely in corona at altitudes between 3.5 and 6.3 solar radii above the solar limb with the Metis coronagraph on SO can be tracked to PSP, orbiting at 0.1 au, thus allowing the local properties of the solar wind to be linked to the coronal source region from where it originated. Thanks to the close approach of PSP to the Sun and the simultaneous Metis observation of the solar corona, the flow-aligned magnetic field and the bulk kinetic energy flux density can be empirically inferred along the coronal current sheet with an unprecedented accuracy, allowing in particular estimation of the Alfv\'en radius at 8.7 solar radii during the time of this event. This is thus the very first study of the same solar wind plasma as it expands from the sub-Alfv\'enic solar corona to just above the Alfv\'en surface., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We introduce Ego4D, a massive-scale egocentric video dataset and benchmark suite. It offers 3,670 hours of daily-life activity video spanning hundreds of scenarios (household, outdoor, workplace, leisure, etc.) captured by 931 unique camera wearers from 74 worldwide locations and 9 different countries. The approach to collection is designed to uphold rigorous privacy and ethics standards with consenting participants and robust de-identification procedures where relevant. Ego4D dramatically expands the volume of diverse egocentric video footage publicly available to the research community. Portions of the video are accompanied by audio, 3D meshes of the environment, eye gaze, stereo, and/or synchronized videos from multiple egocentric cameras at the same event. Furthermore, we present a host of new benchmark challenges centered around understanding the first-person visual experience in the past (querying an episodic memory), present (analyzing hand-object manipulation, audio-visual conversation, and social interactions), and future (forecasting activities). By publicly sharing this massive annotated dataset and benchmark suite, we aim to push the frontier of first-person perception. Abstract: Resumen La investigación agropecuaria y la extensión resultan clave para impulsar procesos de innovación y desarrollo rural. En este artículo nos proponemos analizar las concepciones de investigación, extensión y de su vinculación presentes en diversos documentos institucionales del INTA, principal institución argentina de innovación agropecuaria y desarrollo rural. El análisis muestra que las concepciones de investigación, extensión y del vínculo entre ellas presentes en los documentos institucionales se organizan a partir de dos modelos de innovación. Al primero, que se apoya en el positivismo, lo denominamos ‘difusionista contextualizado’. En él, si bien se valoran las necesidades y la retroalimentación de los productores, el conocimiento es producido por especialistas y transferido a los productores. En el modelo ‘territorial constructivista’ la innovación está relacionada con el aprendizaje social resultante de la interacción horizontal entre múltiples actores. En él se prioriza el conocimiento para la acción y la adaptación local de los conocimientos en el contexto de uso. Los documentos analizados no logran integrar ambos modelos, ya que basculan entre invisibilizar diferencias y considerarlos desde una perspectiva evolutiva que niega la legitimidad el difusionismo contextualizado. Destacamos la necesidad de reconocer los distintos modelos de innovación y elegir el más adecuado en cada contexto.

83. Fluoropyrimidines affect de novo pyrimidine synthesis impairing biofilm formation in Escherichia coli

Abstract: Antivirulence agents are considered a promising strategy to treat bacterial infections. Fluoropyrimidines possess antivirulence and antibiofilm activity against Gram-negative bacteria; however, their mechanism of action is yet unknown. Consistent with their known antibiofilm activity, fluoropyrimidines, particularly 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC), impair curli-dependent surface adhesion by Escherichia coli MG1655 via downregulation of curli fimbriae gene transcription. Curli inhibition requires fluoropyrimidine conversion into fluoronucleotides and is not mediated by c-di-GMP or the ymg-rcs envelope stress response axis, previously suggested as the target of fluorouracil antibiofilm activity in E. coli. In contrast, 5-FC hampered the transcription of curli activators RpoS and stimulated the expression of Fis, a curli repressor affected by nucleotide availability. This last observation suggested a possible perturbation of the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis by 5-FC: indeed, exposure to 5-FC resulted in a ca. 2-fold reduction of UMP intracellular levels while not affecting ATP. Consistently, expression of the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis genes carB and pyrB was upregulated in the presence of 5-FC. Our results suggest that the antibiofilm activity of fluoropyrimidines is mediated, at least in part, by perturbation of the pyrimidine nucleotide pool. We screened a genome library in search of additional determinants able to counteract the effects of 5-FC. We found that a DNA fragment encoding the unknown protein D8B36_18,480 and the N-terminal domain of the penicillin-binding protein 1b (PBP1b), involved in peptidoglycan synthesis, could restore curli production in the presence of 5-FC. Deletion of the PBP1b-encoding gene mrcB, induced csgBAC transcription, while overexpression of the gene encoding the D8B36_18,480 protein obliterated its expression, possibly as part of a coordinated response in curli regulation with PBP1b. While the two proteins do not appear to be direct targets of 5-FC, their involvement in curli regulation suggests a connection between peptidoglycan biosynthesis and curli production, which might become even more relevant upon pyrimidine starvation and reduced availability of UDP-sugars needed in cell wall biosynthesis. Overall, our findings link the antibiofilm activity of fluoropyrimidines to the redirection of at least two global regulators (RpoS, Fis) by induction of pyrimidine starvation. This highlights the importance of the de novo pyrimidines biosynthesis pathway in controlling virulence mechanisms in different bacteria and makes the pathway a potential target for antivirulence strategies.

Abstract: El objetivo de este artículo es indagar, de modo exploratorio, en la creación de una marca territorial en San Martín de los Andes (Argentina) y en sus implicancias en cuanto a la (re)configuración de un sentido global de lugar. Se parte de examinar la creación de la empresa de tecnología digital Lemon Cash, que dio origen a la denominación Patagonia Crypto Valley para designar a dicha ciudad como incubadora de su proyecto y como lugar de innovación. El abordaje metodológico es de tipo cualitativo e incluyó el análisis de notas en medios de comunicación y en portales de noticias especializados en economía digital; a lo cual se suman observaciones y entrevistas semi-estructuradas realizadas en la ciudad. La principal conclusión es que la idea del Patagonia Crypto Valley se fue nutriendo de la intervención de actores que, con diferentes intereses y grados de participación, se involucraron en la resignificación de un territorio como parte de un conjunto de lugares de innovación a escala global.

Abstract: The determination of solar wind outflow velocity is fundamental in order to probe the mechanisms of wind acceleration in the corona. We aim to study, via the Doppler dimming technique, the effects that the chromospheric Ly{\alpha} line profile shape causes on the determination of the outflow speed of coronal HI atoms. The Doppler dimming technique takes into account the decrease of coronal Ly{\alpha} radiation in regions where HI atoms flow out in the solar wind. Starting from UV observations (UVCS/SOHO) of the coronal Ly{\alpha} line and simultaneous measurements of pB (LASCO/SOHO and Mk3/MLSO), we studied the effect of the pumping chromospheric Ly{\alpha} line profile through measurements from SOHO/SUMER, UVSP/SMM and LPSP/OSO-8, taken from representative on-disk regions and as a function of time during the solar activity cycle. In particular, we considered the effect of four chromospheric line parameters: line width, depth of the central reversal, asymmetry and distance of the peaks. We find that the range of variability of these parameters is of about 50% for the width, 69% for the depth of the central reversal, 35% for the asymmetry, and 50% for the distance of the peaks. Then, we find that the variability of the pumping Ly{\alpha} profile affects the estimates of the coronal HI velocity by about 9-12%. Abstract: JUNO is a massive liquid scintillator detector with a primary scientific goal of determining the neutrino mass ordering by studying the oscillated anti-neutrino flux coming from two nuclear power plants at 53 km distance. The expected signal anti-neutrino interaction rate is only 60 counts per day, therefore a careful control of the background sources due to radioactivity is critical. In particular, natural radioactivity present in all materials and in the environment represents a serious issue that could impair the sensitivity of the experiment if appropriate countermeasures were not foreseen. In this paper we discuss the background reduction strategies undertaken by the JUNO collaboration to reduce at minimum the impact of natural radioactivity. We describe our efforts for an optimized experimental design, a careful material screening and accurate detector production handling, and a constant control of the expected results through a meticulous Monte Carlo simulation program. We show that all these actions should allow us to keep the background count rate safely below the target value of 10 Hz in the default fiducial volume, above an energy threshold of 0.7 MeV., Comment: 35 pages, 12 figures

Abstract: Abstract Background COVID-19 is a pandemic disease affecting predominantly the respiratory apparatus with clinical manifestations ranging from asymptomatic to respiratory failure. Chest CT is a crucial tool in diagnosing and evaluating the severity of pulmonary involvement through dedicated scoring systems. Nonetheless, many questions regarding the relationship of radiologic and clinical features of the disease have emerged in multidisciplinary meetings. The aim of this retrospective study was to explore such relationship throughout an innovative and alternative approach. Materials and methods This study included 550 patients (range 25–98 years; 354 males, mean age 66.1; 196 females, mean age 70.9) hospitalized for COVID-19 with available radiological and clinical data between 1 March 2021 and 30 April 2022. Radiological data included CO-RADS, chest CT score, dominant pattern, and typical/atypical findings detected on CT examinations. Clinical data included clinical score and outcome. The relationship between such features was investigated through the development of the main four frequently asked questions summarizing the many issues arisen in multidisciplinary meetings, as follows 1) CO-RADS, chest CT score, clinical score, and outcomes; 2) the involvement of a specific lung lobe and outcomes; 3) dominant pattern/distribution and severity score for the same chest CT score; 4) additional factors and outcomes. Results 1) If CT was suggestive for COVID, a strong correlation between CT/clinical score and prognosis was found; 2) Middle lobe CT involvement was an unfavorable prognostic criterion; 3) If CT score 50%, crazy paving as dominant pattern leaded to a 15% increased death rate, stacked up against other patterns, thus almost doubling it; 4) Additional factors usually did not matter, but lymph-nodes and pleural effusion worsened prognosis. Conclusions This study outlined those radiological features of COVID-19 most relevant towards disease severity and outcome with an innovative approach.

Abstract: The investigation of the wind in the solar corona initiated with the observations of the resonantly scattered UV emission of the coronal plasma obtained with UVCS-SOHO, designed to measure the wind outflow speed by applying the Doppler dimming diagnostics. Metis on Solar Orbiter complements the UVCS spectroscopic observations, performed during solar activity cycle 23, by simultaneously imaging the polarized visible light and the HI Ly-alpha corona in order to obtain high-spatial and temporal resolution maps of the outward velocity of the continuously expanding solar atmosphere. The Metis observations, on May 15, 2020, provide the first HI Ly-alpha images of the extended corona and the first instantaneous map of the speed of the coronal plasma outflows during the minimum of solar activity and allow us to identify the layer where the slow wind flow is observed. The polarized visible light (580-640 nm), and the UV HI Ly-alpha (121.6 nm) coronal emissions, obtained with the two Metis channels, are combined in order to measure the dimming of the UV emission relative to a static corona. This effect is caused by the outward motion of the coronal plasma along the direction of incidence of the chromospheric photons on the coronal neutral hydrogen. The plasma outflow velocity is then derived as a function of the measured Doppler dimming. The static corona UV emission is simulated on the basis of the plasma electron density inferred from the polarized visible light. This study leads to the identification, in the velocity maps of the solar corona, of the high-density layer about +/-10 deg wide, centered on the extension of a quiet equatorial streamer present at the East limb where the slowest wind flows at about (160 +/- 18) km/s from 4 Rs to 6 Rs. Beyond the boundaries of the high-density layer, the wind velocity rapidly increases, marking the transition between slow and fast wind in the corona.

Abstract: The Metis coronagraph is one of the remote sensing instruments hosted on board the ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter mission. Metis is devoted to carry out the first simultaneous imaging of the solar corona in both visible light (VL) and ultraviolet (UV). High-energy particles penetrate spacecraft materials and may limit the performance of on-board instruments. A study of galactic cosmic-ray (GCR) tracks observed in the first VL images gathered by Metis during the commissioning phase for a total of 60 seconds of exposure time is presented here. A similar analysis is planned for the UV channel. A prediction of the GCR flux up to hundreds of GeV is made here for the first part of the Solar Orbiter mission to study the Metis coronagraph performance. GCR model predictions are compared to observations gathered on board Solar Orbiter by the EPD/HET experiment in the range 10 MeV-100 MeV in the summer 2020 and with previous measurements. Estimated cosmic-ray fluxes above 70 MeV n$^{-1}$ have been also parameterized and used for Monte Carlo simulations aiming at reproducing the cosmic-ray track observations in the Metis coronagraph VL images. The same parameterizations can also be used to study the performance of other detectors. By comparing observations of cosmic-ray tracks in the Metis VL images with FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations of cosmic-ray interactions in the VL detector, it is found that cosmic rays fire a fraction of the order of 10$^{-4}$ of the whole image pixel sample. Therefore, cosmic rays do not affect sensibly the quality of Metis VL images. It is also found that the overall efficiency for cosmic-ray identification in the Metis VL images is approximately equal to the contribution of Z$>$2 particles. Abstract: The Astrometric Gravitation Probe mission is a modern version of the 1919 Dyson-Eddington-Davidson experiment, based on a space-borne telescope with a permanent built-in eclipse, provided by a coronagraphic system. The expected improvement on experimental bounds to General Relativity and competing gravitation theories is by at least two orders of magnitude. The measurement principle is reviewed, in particular the principle of Fizeau-like combination of a set of individual inverted coronagraphs simultaneously feeding a common high resolution telescope. Also, the payload has a dual field of view property, in order to support simultaneous observations of stellar fields either very close, or far away, from the Sun, i.e. fields affected by either high or low light bending. Abstract: Astrometric Science and Technology Roadmap for Astrophysics (ASTRA) is a bilateral cooperation between China and Italy with the goal of consolidating astrometric measurement concepts and technologies. In particular, the objectives include critical analysis of the Gaia methodology and performance, as well as principle demonstration experiments aimed at future innovative astrometric applications requiring high precision over large angular separations (one to 180 degrees). Such measurement technologies will be the building blocks for future instrumentation focused on the "great questions" of modern cosmology, like General Relativity validity (including Dark Matter and Dark Energy behavior), formation and evolution of structure like proto-galaxies, and planetary systems formation in bio compatibles environments. Abstract: High precision astrometry aims at source position determination to a very small fraction of the diffraction image size, in high SNR regime. One of the key limitations to such goal is the optical response variation of the telescope over a sizeable FOV, required to ensure bright reference objects to any selected target. The issue translates into severe calibration constraints, and/or the need for complex telescope and focal plane metrology. We propose an innovative system approach derived from the established TMA telescope concept, extended to achieve high filling factor of an annular field of view around the optical axis of the telescope. The proposed design is a very compact, 1 m class telescope compatible with modern CCD and CMOS detectors (EFL = 15 m). We describe the concept implementation guidelines and the optical performance of the current optical design. Abstract: The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a 20 kton LS detector at 700-m underground. An excellent energy resolution and a large fiducial volume offer exciting opportunities for addressing many important topics in neutrino and astro-particle physics. With 6 years of data, the neutrino mass ordering can be determined at 3-4 sigma and three oscillation parameters can be measured to a precision of 0.6% or better by detecting reactor antineutrinos. With 10 years of data, DSNB could be observed at 3-sigma; a lower limit of the proton lifetime of 8.34e33 years (90% C.L.) can be set by searching for p->nu_bar K^+; detection of solar neutrinos would shed new light on the solar metallicity problem and examine the vacuum-matter transition region. A core-collapse supernova at 10 kpc would lead to ~5000 IBD and ~2000 (300) all-flavor neutrino-proton (electron) scattering events. Geo-neutrinos can be detected with a rate of ~400 events/year. We also summarize the final design of the JUNO detector and the key R&D achievements. All 20-inch PMTs have been tested. The average photon detection efficiency is 28.9% for the 15,000 MCP PMTs and 28.1% for the 5,000 dynode PMTs, higher than the JUNO requirement of 27%. Together with the >20 m attenuation length of LS, we expect a yield of 1345 p.e. per MeV and an effective energy resolution of 3.02%/\sqrt{E (MeV)}$ in simulations. The underwater electronics is designed to have a loss rate <0.5% in 6 years. With degassing membranes and a micro-bubble system, the radon concentration in the 35-kton water pool could be lowered to <10 mBq/m^3. Acrylic panels of radiopurity <0.5 ppt U/Th are produced. The 20-kton LS will be purified onsite. Singles in the fiducial volume can be controlled to ~10 Hz. The JUNO experiment also features a double calorimeter system with 25,600 3-inch PMTs, a LS testing facility OSIRIS, and a near detector TAO., Comment: A review paper with 78 pages and 32 figures. v2: minor revision. Abstract: The OSIRIS detector is a subsystem of the liquid scintillator fillling chain of the JUNO reactor neutrino experiment. Its purpose is to validate the radiopurity of the scintillator to assure that all components of the JUNO scintillator system work to specifications and only neutrino-grade scintillator is filled into the JUNO Central Detector. The aspired sensitivity level of $10^{-16}$ g/g of $^{238}$U and $^{232}$Th requires a large ($\sim$20 m$^3$) detection volume and ultralow background levels. The present paper reports on the design and major components of the OSIRIS detector, the detector simulation as well as the measuring strategies foreseen and the sensitivity levels to U/Th that can be reached in this setup., Comment: 32 pages, 22 figures

Abstract: Atmospheric neutrinos are one of the most relevant natural neutrino sources that can be exploited to infer properties about cosmic rays and neutrino oscillations. The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment, a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector with excellent energy resolution is currently under construction in China. JUNO will be able to detect several atmospheric neutrinos per day given the large volume. A study on the JUNO detection and reconstruction capabilities of atmospheric $\nu_e$ and $\nu_\mu$ fluxes is presented in this paper. In this study, a sample of atmospheric neutrino Monte Carlo events has been generated, starting from theoretical models, and then processed by the detector simulation. The excellent timing resolution of the 3'' PMT light detection system of JUNO detector and the much higher light yield for scintillation over Cherenkov allow to measure the time structure of the scintillation light with very high precision. Since $\nu_e$ and $\nu_\mu$ interactions produce a slightly different light pattern, the different time evolution of light allows to discriminate the flavor of primary neutrinos. A probabilistic unfolding method has been used, in order to infer the primary neutrino energy spectrum from the detector experimental observables. The simulated spectrum has been reconstructed between 100 MeV and 10 GeV, showing a great potential of the detector in the atmospheric low energy region., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures

99. Long distance optical transport of ultracold atoms: A compact setup using a Moir\'e lens

Abstract: We present a compact and robust setup to optically transport ultracold atoms over long distances. Using a focus-tunable Moir\'e lens that has recently appeared on the market, we demonstrate transport of up to a distance of 465 mm. A transfer efficiency of 70% is achieved with negligible temperature change at 11 $\mu$K. With its high thermal stability and low astigmatism, the Moir\'e lens is superior to fluid-based varifocal lenses. Abstract: Sarcoidosis and Granulomatous and Lymphocytic Interstitial Lung Diseases (GLILD) are two rare entities primarily characterised by the development of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) in the context of systemic immune dysregulation. These two conditions partially share the immunological background and pathologic findings, with granuloma as the main common feature. In this narrative review, we performed a careful comparison between sarcoidosis and GLILD, with an overview of their main similarities and differences, starting from a clinical perspective and ending with a deeper look at the immunopathogenesis and possible target therapies. Sarcoidosis occurs in immunocompetent individuals, whereas GLILD occurs in patients affected by common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). Moreover, peculiar extrapulmonary manifestations and radiological and histological features may help distinguish the two diseases. Despite that, common pathogenetic pathways have been suggested and both these disorders can cause progressive impairment of lung function and variable systemic granulomatous and non-granulomatous complications, leading to significant morbidity, reduced quality of life, and survival. Due to the rarity of these conditions and the extreme clinical variability, there are still many open questions concerning their pathogenesis, natural history, and optimal management. However, if studied in parallel, these two entities might benefit from each other, leading to a better understanding of their pathogenesis and to more tailored treatment approaches.
