Objective To explore the effects of military operation types on the mental health of Chinese veterans and the mediating role of psychological quality based on a dual-factor model of mental health. Methods Cross-sectional study design was adopted in this study.Self-designed demographic information questionnaire, patient health questionnaire depression module-9 item (PHQ-9), general anxiety disorder-7(GAD-7), satisfaction with life scale and psychological quality questionnaire were used to survey on 3 027 Chinese veterans. Results ① Compared to the one-factor model and the two-factor models with other indicators, the dual-factor model of mental health, with anxiety symptoms as a negative indicator and life satisfaction as a positive indicator, fitted better (Chi-square/df=8.927, GFI=0.974, AGFI=0.962, RMSEA=0.051, NNFI=0.985, IFI=0.988, CFI=0.988).②Taking the subjects who did not participate in war/non-war military operations as the reference, psychological quality showed significant relatively mediating effects between war and life satisfaction, and between war and anxiety symptoms (P < 0.05), while no such significances were observed in the corresponding ones for non-war military operations.③ War could decrease veterans'life satisfaction through full mediation of cognitive, adaptive and personality dimensions of psychological quality, and increase anxiety symptoms through partial mediation of the personality dimension of psychological quality. Conclusion The dual-factor model of mental health is applicable to Chinese veteran population, and psychological quality plays a mediating role between war and mental health.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in many human diseases. However, their role in the development of severe sepsis, a condition that remains one of the main causes of death in intensive care units, has not yet been defined. In this study, we interrogated the molecular mechanisms of circRNAs in severe sepsis. We profiled the expression levels of 5,680 circRNAs in plasma extracted from blood samples of 9 severe sepsis cases or 9 controls (male, age 78 ± 7) using the Human circRNA Array. To enrich protein-coding genes hosting severe sepsis-related circRNAs, we conducted gene ontology and pathways analyses. ObjectiveTo study the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance characteristics of Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium（S. typhimurium）and monophasic S. typhimurium from clinical patients and food in Henan Province from 2015 to 2022.MethodsThree hundred and ninety-nine strains of Salmonella from food and clinical patients in Henan Province were serotyped according to the Kauffmann White scheme by slide agglutination and multiplex real-time PCR method. Microbroth dilution method was used to test antimicrobial resistance of S. typhimurium. Statistical analysis was carried out using Chi‑square test.ResultsThree hundred and ninety-nine strain were composed of two hundred twenty-five monophasic S. typhimurium （56.39%） and one hundred seventy-four S. typhimurium. The imipenem and trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxazole resistant isolates were found since 2017. The antimicrobial resistance rate of two Salmonella strains to ampicillin， chloramphenicol and tetracycline was higher， reaching more than 50%. Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a severe syndrome affecting the urinary system for which there are no effective therapeutics. In this study, we investigate the effects and mechanisms of aminophylline in preventing CRF development. A rat model of chronic renal failure is established by 5/6 nephrectomy. The levels of serum creatinine (SCR), urinary protein (UPR), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) are detected by ELISA. Histological evaluations of renal tissues are performed by H&E, Masson staining, and PAS staining. Functional protein expression is detected by western blot analysis or immunofluorescence microscopy. Glomerular cell apoptosis is determined using the TUNEL method. Results show that Aminophylline significantly reduces the levels of SCR, UPR, and BUN in the CRF model rats. Histological analyses show that aminophylline effectively alleviates renal tissue injuries in CRF rats. The protein expression levels of nephrin, podocin, SIRT1, p-AMPK, and p-ULK1 are greatly increased, while p-mTOR protein expression is markedly decreased by aminophylline treatment. Additionally, the protein level of LC3B in CRF rats is significantly increased by aminophylline. Moreover, aminophylline alleviates apoptosis in the glomerular tissues of CRF rats. Furthermore, resveratrol promotes SIRT1, p-AMPK, and p-ULK1 protein expressions and reduces p-mTOR and LC3B protein expressions in CRF rats. Selisistat (a SIRT1 inhibitor) mitigates the changes in SIRT1, p-AMPK, p-ULK1, p-mTOR, and LC3B expressions induced by aminophylline. Finally, RAPA alleviates renal injury and apoptosis in CRF rats, and 3-MA eliminates the aminophylline-induced inhibition of renal injury and apoptosis in CRF rats. Aminophylline suppresses chronic renal failure progression by modulating the SIRT1/AMPK/mTOR-mediated autophagy process.

In this work, the heavy metal chelating agent N, N-bis(dithiocarboxy) ethylenediamine (EDTC) was synthesized by blending method with ethylenediamine (C2H8N2) and carbon disulfide (CS2). The effects of material ratio, dosing sequence, pH and temperature in aqueous solution on the removal characteristics of EDTC as a synergistic agent for the treatment of complexed copper (EDTA-Cu) and Rhodamine B (RhB) were investigated. Furthermore, the removal efficiency was compared with those of single-component EDTA-Cu and RhB systems. The results indicated that the removal of EDTA-Cu and RhB was up to 150 mg/g and 850 mg/g, respectively, when 1.3 g/L EDTC was added to 180 mg/L EDTA-Cu and 1 800 mg/L RhB water at room temperature. The treatment efficiency was stable in the pH range of 2-10 in aqueous solution. Compared with the removal effect of single component EDTA-Cu and RhB treated with EDTC, EDTC can effectively simultaneous remove copper and RhB with synergistic effect. Therefore, EDTC can be applied as a water treatment agent for the synergistic treatment of complex metal and dye in complicated wastewater.

Integrated circuit industry is a strategic, fundamental and pilot industry that supports economic and social development. It has high water consumption and drainage. The quality characteristics of integrated circuit wastewaters were classified, including ammonia wastewater, fluorine wastewater, acid and alkali wastewater, organic wastewater, copper wastewater, and grinding wastewater. The treatment processes and technologies of up-to-standard discharge, pollutant resource recovery, and water reuse treatment of wastewater containing different pollutants were summarized. The physicochemical processes for up-to-standard discharge treatment included coagulation sedimentation, filtration and adsorption to treat fluorine-containing, copper-containing and grinding wastewater, and biochemical processes included hydrolytic acidification, internal circulation anaerobic reactor, AO, and membrane bioreactor to treat ammonia-containing and organic wastewater. Advanced oxidation and electrolysis technology received much attention in recent years. The resource recovery technologies for pollutants such as fluorine, copper and tetramethylammonium hydroxide in wastewater included ultrafiltration and electrodialysis. Wastewater reuse treatment technologies and processes included coagulation sedimentation, membrane bioreactor and filtration. Reverse osmosis was the core of wastewater reuse treatment, with the goal of producing industrial pure water for integrated circuit manufacturing. Finally, the problems faced in wastewater treatment were discussed. Corresponding control methods were suggested: improving the collection system, strengthening the removal of heavy metals and refractory organic pollutants to reduce the biological toxicity of wastewater, and using pretreatment, fouling monitoring, membrane cleaning, and developing new membrane materials methods to control reverse osmosis membrane fouling.

Objective To investigate the effects of methionine restriction (MR) on macrophages in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) and to explore the underlying mechanism. Methods According to the random number table method, 36 male C57BL/6J mice (6~8 weeks old, 23±2 g) were divided into 3 groups with 12 mice in each group: the sham group, the LPS group and the LPS+MR group. HE staining and pathological scoring of lung injury were performed in lung tissues. The expression of LPS-binding protein (LBP) and Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR4) was detected by RT-qPCR and Western blotting. Macrophage-colony stimulating factor (M-CSF), granulocyte-macrophage-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and chemokine C-C motif ligand 3(CCL3) which are all macrophage-associated chemokines were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Results Compared with the sham group, the pathological score of lung injury in the LPS group was significantly increased (P < 0.01);The mRNA and protein expression levels of LBP and TLR4 were significantly increased; The number of positive cells of CD11b, F4/80, M-CSF, GM-CSF and CCL3 were significantly increased (P < 0.01). MR significantly improved LPS-induced ALI, and decreased the pathological score of lung injury (P < 0.01); The mRNA and protein expression levels of LBP and TLR4 were decreased; Compared with the LPS group, the number of positive cells of CD11b, F4/80, M-CSF, GM-CSF and CCL3 were reduced in the LPS+MR group (P < 0.01). Conclusion MR could attenuate LPS-induced ALI by inhibiting the expression of macrophage chemokines and preventing infiltration and activation of macrophage to lungs.

The production of cyclic carbonates and (or) polycarbonates from the coupling of carbon dioxide (CO2) with epoxides is a practical strategy for CO2 fixation. Chemically recycling of the polycarbonates is also urgently needed for sustainable development of plastics. Here a dinuclear β‐diketiminato (BDI) methyl zinc complex((BDI‐ZnMe)2, 1) is reported to achieve not only selective cyclic carbonates from cycloaddition of CO2 to meso‐CHO in the presence of cocatalyst, but also effective depolymerization of PCHC into trans‐CHC. The trans‐CHC can be further transformed into cis‐CHC, thus demonstrating great application potentials of this strategy in CO2 fixation and chemical recycling of plastics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BackgroundAntidiabetic drugs are widely used in clinical practice as essential drugs for the treatment of diabetes. The effect of hypoglycemic drugs on erectile dysfunction has not been fully proven due to the presence of multiple confounding factors.MethodsTwo-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) was used to examine the causal effect of antidiabetic drugs (including metformin, insulin and gliclazide) on erectile dysfunction. We used five robust analytic methods, of which the inverse variance weighting (IVW) method was the primary method, and also assessed factors such as sensitivity, pleiotropy, and heterogeneity. Effect statistics for exposures and outcomes were downloaded from publicly available data sets, including open Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and the UK Biobank (UKB).ResultsIn some of the hypoglycemic drug use, there was a significant causal relationship between metformin use and erectile dysfunction [Beta: 4.9386; OR:1.396E+02 (95% CI:9.13-2135); p-value: 0.0004), suggesting that metformin increased the risk of erectile dysfunction development. Also, we saw that gliclazide use also increased the risk of erectile dysfunction [Beta: 11.7187; OR:0.0125 (95% CI:12.44-1.21E+09); P value: 0.0125). There was no significant causal relationship between insulin use and erectile dysfunction [Beta: 3.0730; OR:21.6071 (95% CI:0.24-1942.38); p-value: 0.1806).Leave-one-out, MR-Egger, and MR-PRESSO analyses produced consistent results.ConclusionThe use of metformin and gliclazide have the potential to increase the risk of erectile dysfunction. There is no causal relationship between the use of insulin and erectile dysfunction.

Polygonati Rhizoma (PR, Huangjing in Chinese) and its processed product (PRP), which are used in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for cognitive enhancement and treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD), have not been fully explored in terms of the different mechanisms underlying their anti-AD effects. Therefore, we used APP/PS1 mice as an AD model to assess the effects of PR and PRP on anxiety-like behaviors, cognitive function, memory performance, and pathological changes in the murine brain. UPLC-HRMS was applied to identify the components of PR and PRP that entered into the blood and brain. Network pharmacology was used to elucidate potential mechanisms underlying the improvement of AD. Differences in the intestinal flora composition between mice treated with PR and PRP were investigated using 16S rRNA sequencing, establishing a correlation between pharmacological components and distinct flora profiles. The results revealed that both PR and PRP interventions ameliorated cognitive deficits and attenuated Amyloid β (Aβ) plaque deposition in the brains of AD mice. Seven specific blood-entering components, namely glutamic acid, Phe-Phe, and uridine, etc., were associated with PR intervention, whereas ten specific blood-entering components including (2R,3S)-3-isopropylmalate, 3-methylhexahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine-1,4-dione, and 3-methoxytyrosine were related to PRP intervention. Uridine was identified as a common brain-penetrating component in both PR and PRP interventions. Network pharmacology analysis suggested that the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway, Calcium signaling pathway and Alzheimer's disease were specific pathways targeted in AD treatment using PR intervention. Moreover, the apoptosis pathway was specifically linked to AD treatment during PRP intervention. Furthermore, the administration of both PR and PRP enhanced the abundance and diversity of the intestinal flora in APP/PS1 mice. Western blotting confirmed that PR excels in regulates inflammation, whereas PRP balances autophagy and apoptosis to alleviate the progression of AD. This study offers valuable insights and establishes a robust foundation for further comprehensive exploration of the intrinsic correlation between TCM and AD.

This study explores the effect of the overseas growth experiences of successors in family businesses on corporate risk-taking. We theorize that successors in family businesses, influenced by psychological characteristics imprinted during their overseas experiences, are more inclined to undertake risky strategic decisions. However, due to considerations related to social emotional wealth, family businesses may intervene in the successors’ risk-taking decisions. Therefore, family control may positively or negatively moderate the relationship between successors’ overseas growth experiences and corporate risk-taking. Our theoretical expectations are tested using a matched sample of Chinese-listed family firms from 2012 to 2021. With supportive empirical results, we contribute to the literature on risk-taking by exploring the predecessors of corporate risk-taking and enriching SEW theory by bringing in the insights of imprinting theory.

Background: This study aims to investigate the relationship between hepatitis B virus (HBV) RNA level and pregnancy outcomes among hepatitis B carriers. Methods: This study collected pregnant women who attended the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University (Guizhou, China) from June 2020 to June 2023. The levels of HBV DNA, HBV RNA, and HBeAg status in HBV carriers were detected. Pregnancy outcomes including intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), gestational hypertension (GH), pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preterm prelabour rupture of membranes (PPROM), mode of delivery, preterm birth, low birth weight (LBW) and macrosomia. Results: A total of 562 pregnant women were collected, 203 (36.12%) were infected with HBV. Compared with HBsAg negative, HBsAg positive pregnant women had a higher risk of ICP. There were no significant differences in the rates of GDM, GH, pre-eclampsia, PPROM, preterm birth, LBW, macrosomia, and mode of delivery among women in the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that maternal HBV RNA level (OR = 3.814, 95% CI: 2.036~7.142, P< 0.001) was an independent risk factor for ICP in HBsAg-positive pregnant women. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve revealed that the areas under the curve of HBV RNA for prediction of ICP was 0.8652(95% confidence interval 0.7636-0.9669, P< 0.001). Conclusions: The HBV RNA level has a significant negative impact on pregnancy outcomes. It may serve as an indicator to guide the prevention of ICP and improve maternal health.
