1-(2-Furyl)-2-nitropropen-3-ones were synthesized by reaction of nitrogen tetroxide with a number of α, β-unsaturated furylcarbonyl compounds. The 5-nitrofuryl derivative was obtained from 1-(2-furyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propen-3-one when the excess amount of N2O4 was increased. Replacement of bromine by a nitro group in the furan ring is observed in the case of the 5-bromofuryl derivative.

A biholomorphically invariant real function h x {h_x} is defined for a hyperbolic manifold X X . Properties of such functions are studied. These properties are applied to prove the following theorem. If a hyperbolic manifold X X can be exhausted by biholomorphic images of a strictly pseudoconvex domain D ⊂ C n D \subset {{\mathbf {C}}^n} with ∂ D ∈ C 3 \partial D\; \in \;{C^3} , then X X is biholomorphically equivalent either to D D or to the unit ball in C n {{\mathbf {C}}^n} . The properties of h D {h_D} are also applied to some questions concerning the group of analytical automorphisms of a strictly pseudoconvex domain and to similar questions concerning polyhedra.

In practically all the technological processes for the preparation of articles made of polymers there is an orientation of the polymers and, as the result, anisotropy in the properties of the articles. This effect is very important for high-molecular-weight compounds with regard to anisotropy in the structure of the main structural unit of the polymer -the macromolecule -and the nonequivalency of the forces of molecular interaction along and across the chain. The orientation in the articles can be followed for different structural elements -the macromolecules, crystallites, and supramolecular formations. Thus, it is significant that by using different methods it is possible to obtain an insight into the elements of the structure of a different level and to trace their behavior irrespective of the transformations at other structural levels. The direction and the degree of the orientation of the polymer depend on the character of the action on it during the reprocessing process, the physical state of the material, the temperature regime, and so on.

The review gives for the first time a systematic account of the extensive literature data on the chemistry of aliphatic nitrosamines. A separate chapter summarises the work on the physical properties, structure, and spectra of N-nitroso-derivatives. The chemical behaviour of the nitrosamines is determined largely by the characteristics of the p–π-conjugation in the fragment. The principal chemical reactions of nitrosamines are treated from this standpoint: the denitrosation reaction, the formation of complexes, the cyclisation to sydnones and sydnoneimines, and the synthesis of lactams. In conclusion, certain aspects of the practical applications of nitrosamines are considered. The bibliography includes 272 references.

In this paper inequalities for some characteristics of polynomial mappings of are obtained. These estimates are used to obtain some results on polynomial endomorphisms of with constant nonzero Jacobian.

Methods of making primary aliphatic nitroamines are considered. In addition to the well-known traditional methods for the preparation of nitroamines, little known methods for making them are examined and prospects for their further development are discussed. This review is the first attempt in the world's literature to systematise the wealth of published material on primary aliphatic nitroamines. The literature is covered up to the end of 1967 or beginning of 1968. There is a bibliography of 207 references.

1. Bis(trinitromethyl)mercury forms 1∶1 complexes, in which the covalent HgC bond is retained, with various compounds that function as electron donors. 2. The complexes of bis(trinitromethyl)mercury with nitroalkanes and secondary nitramines were obtained and characterized. 3. The reaction of bis(trinitromethyl)mercury with pyridine gives the dipyridylmercuronium salt of nitroform.

The review deals with the methods of synthesis of aliphatic diazoketones and gives a systematic account of the extensive literature data on their chemistry. The work on the physical properties, structures, and ultraviolet, infrared, and NMR spectra of diazoketones is summarised in a separate section where problems of p–π conjugation and rotational isomerism are also discussed. The concluding section deals with the hitherto few but interesting data on the biological activity of diazoketones. The bibliography includes 295 references.

Trinitroethyl esters of pyrazolinecarboxylic acids were synthesized by the reaction of trinitroethyl sters of unsaturated carboxylic acids with diazomethane. The reaction is stereospecific. The trinitroethyl esters of pyrazolecarboxylic acids and N-acyl derivatives of pyrazolines were isolated during a study of the chemical properties of the compounds obtained.

1. A convenient method has been developed for preparation of aliphatic N-chloro-N-nitroamines. 2. The chemical stability of the N-chloro-N-nitroamine decreases with increased acidity in the original primary nitroamine. 3. 2,5-Dinitro-2,5-diazahexane-1,6-diol was obtained for the first time.

Detection of precipitins in sera from pulmonary mycoses by the counterimmunoelectrophoresis technic is reported. This method is based on the application of a constant current of high potency on the Outcherlony technic with the result of a greater concentration of the reagents in the precipitation area and a greater speed of the reaction which can be read after one hour. We have registered positive results in all of 73 sera from patients mycologically proved of S. A. blastomycosis, coccidioidomycoses, histoplasmosis and aspergillosis. No cross reactions have been observed.

The reaction of some aliphatic diazo compounds with trans-1-phenyl-1,2-dinitroethylene gave the first representatives of 4-nitroisoxazoline N-oxides, which differ from the unknown 3-nitroisoxazoline N-oxides with respect to their individual physical and chemical properties.

It is well known that the magnitude of the axial forces in cold rolling is significantly affected by the forced nature of the cold-rolling operation. This effect is manifest in the fact that the rolling of the passes over the semifinished product during its deformation is determined not by the natural (actual) rolling radius of the passes, but by the radius of the pitch circle of the driving pinions. Mismatching of the actual and forced rolling radii is the reason for the generation of appreciable axial forces during cold rolling.
