51. Resting-State Beta-Band Recovery Network Related to Cognitive Improvement After Stroke

Abstract

BackgroundStroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and it causes important long-term cognitive and physical deficits that hamper patients' daily activity. Neuropsychological rehabilitation (NR) has increasingly become more important to recover from cognitive disability and to improve the functionality and quality of life of these patients. Since in most stroke cases, restoration of functional connectivity (FC) precedes or accompanies cognitive and behavioral recovery, understanding the electrophysiological signatures underlying stroke recovery mechanisms is a crucial scientific and clinical goal.MethodsFor this purpose, a longitudinal study was carried out with a sample of 10 stroke patients, who underwent two neuropsychological assessments and two resting-state magnetoencephalographic (MEG) recordings, before and after undergoing a NR program. Moreover, to understand the degree of cognitive and neurophysiological impairment after stroke and the mechanisms of recovery after cognitive rehabilitation, stroke patients were compared to 10 healthy controls matched for age, sex, and educational level.FindingsAfter intra and inter group comparisons, we found the following results: (1) Within the stroke group who received cognitive rehabilitation, almost all cognitive domains improved relatively or totally; (2) They exhibit a pattern of widespread increased in FC within the beta band that was related to the recovery process (there were no significant differences between patients who underwent rehabilitation and controls); (3) These FC recovery changes were related with the enhanced of cognitive performance. Furthermore, we explored the capacity of the neuropsychological scores before rehabilitation, to predict the FC changes in the brain network. Significant correlations were found in global indexes from the WAIS-III: Performance IQ (PIQ) and Perceptual Organization index (POI) (i.e., Picture Completion, Matrix Reasoning, and Block Design).

60. Sex differences in the progression to Alzheimer’s disease: a combination of functional and structural markers

Abstract

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has been frequently interpreted as a transitional phase between healthy cognitive aging and dementia, particularly of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) type. Of note, few studies explored that transition from a multifactorial perspective, taking into consideration the effect of basic factors such as biological sex. In the present study 96 subjects with MCI (37 males and 59 females) were followed-up and divided into two subgroups according to their clinical outcome: “progressive” MCI (pMCI = 41), if they fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for AD at the end of follow-up; and “stable” MCI (sMCI = 55), if they remained with the initial diagnosis. Different markers were combined to characterize sex differences between groups, including magnetoencephalography recordings, cognitive performance, and brain volumes derived from magnetic resonance imaging. Results indicated that the pMCI group exhibited higher low-frequency activity, lower scores in neuropsychological tests and reduced brain volumes than the sMCI group, being these measures significantly correlated. When sex was considered, results revealed that this pattern was mainly due to the influence of the females’ sample. Overall, females exhibited lower cognitive scores and reduced brain volumes. More interestingly, females in the pMCI group showed an increased theta activity that correlated with a more abrupt reduction of cognitive and volumetric scores as compared with females in the sMCI group and with males in the pMCI group. These findings suggest that females’ brains might be more vulnerable to the effects of AD pathology, since regardless of age, they showed signs of more pronounced deterioration than males.

Abstract

La motivación del personal juega un papel fundamental para la conducción de una empresa u organización. Indiferentemente del tipo, modelo u enfoque de la misma, el aprovechamiento del capital humano orienta al buen funcionamiento y buen clima organizacional de las instituciones, más aun, cuando las organizaciones tienen un enfoque educativo o de enseñanza, el capital humano suma más importancia, por lo que nace la necesidad de mantener un personal motivado y comprometido con los objetivos y la misión de la empresa. El alcance de la investigación fue descriptivo explicativo, de diseño no experimental transversal. La información pudo ser recolectada con cuestionarios de preguntas cerradas, cuyos resultados fueron procesados con Excel. Como se muestra en la data obtenida con la aplicación del cuestionario, el personal adscrito a la escuela de conducción Sportmancar, sostiene lo manifestado por los distintos autores citados en la investigación, en la variable planteada en cuanto a la motivación laboral y su relación con el compromiso organizacional de los trabajadores de la institución. La motivación laboral es de suma importancia en materia del aprovechamiento del talento humano en las organizaciones. En la actualidad, cada día toma mayor relevancia el recurso humano presente en las empresas, y su desempeño en la ejecución de funciones, en virtud de lograr los objetivos de las mismas. En el caso particular de la empresa de conducción Sportmancar, se busca formar profesionales al volante, en miras de garantizar una seguridad social en las vías del territorio nacional

62. Contaminación lumínica en el Anillo verde de Vitoria-Gasteiz

Abstract

Este trabajo ha consistido en tomar mediciones de la cantidad de iluminación que reciben distintos ecosistemas alrededor de la ciudad de Vitoria-Gasteiz, para posteriormente analizar y valorar esas mediciones. En primer lugar, se hizo una valoración medioambiental de los distintos espacios, haciendo referencia a los servicios ambientales que prestan y a la flora y fauna presente. En segundo lugar, se tomaron mediciones de la contaminación lumínica de los distintos espacios para así poder comparar y analizar posibles diferencias existentes. Posteriormente se han expuesto los efectos adversos de la contaminación lumínica sobre la salud y el medio ambiente. Por último, se han propuesto actuaciones para mitigar la contaminación lumínica y así contribuir al ahorro energético.

63. Past, present, and future research on self-service merchandising: A co-word and text mining approach

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to discern emerging trends and provide a longitudinal perspective on merchandising research by identifying relationships between merchandising-related subdomains/themes. Design/methodology/approach: We sourced 657 merchandising-related articles published since 1960, from the Scopus database and 425 from Web of Science. After processing and normalizing the data, we performed co-word and thematic network analyses. Taking a text mining approach, we used topic modeling to identify a set of coherent topics characterized by the keywords of the articles. Findings: We identified the following merchandising-related themes: branding, retail, consumer, behavior, modeling, textile and clothing industry, and visual merchandising. Although visual merchandising was the first type of merchandising to be used in-store, only recently has it become an emerging topic in the academic literature. There has been a further trend over the last decade to understand the adoption of simulation technology, such as computer-aided design, particularly in supply chain management in the clothing industry. These and other findings contribute to our discussion of the merchandising concept, approached from an evolutionary perspective. Research limitations/implications: The conclusions of the study hold implications at the intersection of merchandising, sectors, new technologies, research methodologies, and merchandising-practitioner education. Research trends suggest that, in the future, virtual reality and augmented reality using neuroscientific methods will be applied to the emerchandising context. Practical implications: The different dimensions of merchandising can be used to leverage store managers’ decision-making process toward an integrated store-management strategy. In particular, by adopting loyalty merchandising tactics, the store can generate emotional attachment among consumers, who will perceive its value and services as unique, thanks to merchandising items designed specifically with that aim in mind. The stimulation of unplanned purchases, the strategic location of products and duration of each merchandising activity in the store, the digitalization of merchandising, and the application of findings from neuroscience studies are some of the most relevant practical applications. Originality/value: The study provides the first-ever longitudinal review of the state of the art in merchandising research, taking a holistic perspective of this field of knowledge spanning a 60-year period. The work makes a valuable contribution to the development of the marketing discipline.

Abstract

Omni-channel management is an increasingly popular strategy that involves creating multiple forms of contact between brands and customers to maximise interaction and thereby generate global brand experiences, which can constitute a competitive advantage. The television-series sector is no exception to this phenomenon. The aim of the present research is to examine the effect of television-drama-series brand experience on the generation of word-of-mouth communication among viewers. The study analyses the moderating effect of viewers' gender and culture – specifically, the individualism/collectivism variable proposed by Geert Hofstede, – in the context of series with high vs. low levels of sexual and violent content. The results indicate that these variables exert a moderating effect on the relationship between brand experience and word-of-mouth only in the case of TV drama series with a low level of such content. Women and culturally-individualistic audiences will be more prone to the experience-based generation of word-of-mouth for this type of television series. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

68. Satisfaction or delight? A cross-cultural study of loyalty formation linked to two restaurant types

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyse the moderating roles of restaurant type and client long-term orientation (LTO) on the loyalty building process. In addition, this analysis delves into the role of customer satisfaction and delight in the dining experience on the development of loyalty to a restaurant. Design/methodology/approach: This study advances a moderator mediation model stemming from self-administered online questionnaires presented to clients subsequent to their gastronomic experiences. The analysis comprised a sample of 250 customers of moderate restaurants and 290 of midscale restaurants. Findings: The results reveal that customer satisfaction and delight are two key antecedents to the process of building loyalty towards restaurants and that the responses depended on restaurant type and client LTO. Practical implications: The study advances recommendations to restaurant managers and gastronomic marketing specialists. Moderate restaurants should satisfy the customer without offering additional services while medium-scale establishments should design actions perceived as an extra that surprise the client. Moreover, it is more important to offer delight to short-term oriented clients than to long-term oriented clients. Originality/value: The global character of the hospitality industry implies that achieving customer loyalty requires going further than generating favourable attitudes. This has led the academic world to place more interest on the issue of delight perceived by the client. In this sense, the present study examines exclusively the long-term cultural dimension due to the little attention it has received in hospitality literature. Finally, the advances offered by the PROCESS software in analysing indirect conditional effects renders it possible to identify the different levels of customer LTO towards different types of restaurants.

Este estudio provee la relación largo peso (RLP) de los recursos pesqueros más importantes de la Patagonia norte, Argentina. Las RLP para Genypterus brasiliensis y Acanthistius patachonicus no estaban disponibles para la Plataforma Continental Argentina, por lo que estos resultados contribuyen al conocimiento de estas especies. This study provides the length-weight relationship (LWR) for the main fish of fishery importance in northern Patagonia, Argentina. The LWR for Genypterus brasiliensis and Acanthistius patachonicus was not available for the Argentine Continental Shelf, so these results contribute to our knowledge of these species. Abstract

En este escrito compartimos algunas reflexiones sobre la experiencia que tuvimos como equipo en la cátedra de Pedagogía (Escuela de Ciencias de la Educación, FFyH, UNC) respecto de la precipitada virtualización de la propuesta de enseñanza debido a las medidas de aislamiento social, preventivo y obligatorio. Esperamos que este sea un registro que habilite una especie de memoria activa, acción que posibilita pensar y repensar lo vivido durante el trayecto de la materia en la virtualidad. 72. Producción científica y evolución conceptual del merchandising durante las últimas seis décadas. Un estudio bibliométrico

Abstract

This article shows the results of a bibliometric analysis focused on the academic and professional community interested in the study of self-service merchandising or marketing at the point of sale. The objective is to identify past and current issues, predict emerging trends and provide a longitudinal perspective on the research that took place between 1960 and 2019, from around 700 articles taken from the Scopus bibliographic database. Therefore, this approach provides the most comprehensive analysis of the history of point-of-sale marketing in the past six decades. Some of the findings found in the past decade are characterized by the study of simulators such as CAD, and supply chain management applied to the textile sector. Although visual merchandising is not new, it is an emerging theme in this field of research that will gradually integrate the role of virtual merchandising, the atmosphere of the establishment and the application of window dressing techniques. In this decade, advertising appear as a general or transversal topic to others topics. And the future will go through the application of virtual reality and augmented reality to the case of e-merchandising. Conclusions and future lines of research advanced to advance knowledge and understanding of the academic literature on marketing or point-of-sale marketing., En este artículo aparecen los resultados de un análisis bibliométrico centrado en la comunidad académica y profesional interesada por el estudio del merchandising de autoservicio (self-service merchandising) o marketing en el punto de venta. El objetivo es identificar los temas pasados y actuales, predecir las tendencias emergentes y proporcionar una perspectiva longitudinal sobre la investigación que ha tenido lugar entre 1960 y 2019, a partir de unos 700 artículos extraídos de la base bibliográfica Scopus. Por tanto, este enfoque proporciona el análisis más exhaustivo de la historia del merchandising en las últimas seis décadas. Algunos de los hallazgos muestran que la década pasada se caracterizó por el estudio de simuladores como CAD, y de la gestión de la cadena de suministro aplicado al sector textil. Si bien, el merchandising visual no es algo nuevo, se trata una temática emergente en este campo de investigación que irá integrando el papel del merchandising virtual, la atmósfera del establecimiento y la aplicación de técnicas de escaparatismo. En esta década, la publicidad aparece como un tema general o transversales a otras temáticas. Y el futuro pasará por la aplicación de la realidad virtual y la realidad aumentada al caso del e-merchandising. Las conclusiones y futuras líneas de investigación contribuyen a avanzar en el conocimiento y la comprensión de la literatura académica sobre el merchandising o el marketing en el punto de venta.

73. Tecnologías de la información y la comunicación para el desarrollo social: una propuesta metodológica

Abstract

Most efforts to promote human development through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have focused on increasing infrastructure and digital literacy among vulnerable sectors of the population. This article proposes to expand the scope through a methodology for an organizational level. The objective is to share the theoretical principles, the design and the results of the implementation of a participatory communication methodology for the appropriation of ICTs in organizations with social purposes. The theoretical framework was based on Amartya Sen's human development perspective regarding ICTs for development and social change. The methodology was generated through a collaborative workshop between the academy and organizations dedicated to youth development in different regions of Mexico. The results show that the appropriation of ICTs must transcend its instrumental use and be based on a reflection on its social mission, its context and the needs of the population they serve, to solve their communication problems, but above all to strengthen their capacity to support human and social development., La mayoría de los esfuerzos para promover el desarrollo humano a través de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) se han centrado en incrementar la infraestructura y la alfabetización digital entre sectores vulnerables de la población. En este artículo se propone ampliar el alcance mediante una metodología para el nivel organizacional. El objetivo es dar a conocer los principios teóricos, el diseño y los resultados de la implementación de una metodología de comunicación participativa para la apropiación de las TIC en organizaciones con propósitos sociales. El marco teórico se basó en la perspectiva del desarrollo humano de Amartya Sen con respecto a las TIC para el desarrollo y el cambio social. La metodología se generó a través de un taller colaborativo entre la academia y las organizaciones dedicadas al desarrollo de los jóvenes en distintas regiones de México. Los resultados dan a conocer que la apropiación de las TIC debe trascender su uso instrumental al partir de una reflexión sobre su misión social, su contexto y las necesidades de la población que atienden, para resolver sus problemas de comunicación, pero, sobre todo, para fortalecer su capacidad para apoyar el desarrollo humano y social.

74. Representaciones sociales de la actividad física y el juego activo en preescolares: Revisión exploratoria

Abstract

Background: understanding social representations (SR) of physical activity (PA) and active play (AP) in preschool children, allows us to address PA promotion in this age group. Methods: we conducted a scoping review of 34 articles describing characteristics of SR: elements, information and attitudes and a meta-synthesis was elaborated with the main categories related to PA and AP. Results: parents and teachers are determinants for preschool children´s physical activity and active play, they perceive preschoolers as naturally “active”. Adults have negative perceptions about preschooler´s PA and this represents a barrier to promote their activity. Conclusions: Better knowledge of parents and teachers about physical activity recommendations for preschoolers and their own importance as role models, might facilitate their children´s participation in these activities, therefore it is important to include recomendations in every intervention intended to improve physical activity and active play of pre-schoolers. Our results showed that there is a need to study social representations of physical activity and active play in the natural settings of preschoolers in order to increase their physical activity and active play., Fundamentos: La comprensión de las representaciones sociales de la actividad física y el juego activo en preescolares permite abordar de manera integral su promoción en esta población. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar y sintetizar la evidencia disponible acerca de dichas representaciones en los preescolares. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión exploratoria (scoping review). Se incluyeron en ella 34 artículos en los que se identificaron las características del campo de la representación social (elementos, información y actitud) y se elaboró una metasíntesis con las principales categorías relacionadas con la actividad física y el juego activo. Resultados: Los padres y maestros fueron determinantes para la actividad física y el juego activo de los preescolares. En principio, estos percibieron a los preescolares “activos” per se. Los adultos tuvieron una percepción negativa frente a la actividad física de los preescolares y esto representó una barrera para la actividad física. Conclusiones: Un mejor conocimiento de los padres y maestros de las recomendaciones sobre actividad física en los preescolares y de la importancia de su papel como motivadores puede facilitar la participación de ellos en este tipo de actividades, por lo que es necesario incluir dichas recomendaciones en toda intervención encaminada a mejorar la actividad física y el juego activo en la población preescolar. Estos resultados muestran la necesidad de realizar investigaciones sobre las representaciones sociales de la actividad física y el juego activo en los entornos cotidianos de los preescolares, para promover así su práctica en esta población.

Abstract

El presente proyecto consiste en la edición de MUR, un fanzine que se apropia de los poemas y dibujos de Roberto Mur, artista, docente y periodista de la Facultad de Periodismo y Comunicación Social de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. El estilo de la edición mixtura la cultura punk, el conurbano bonaerense, lo camp y lo Nac&Pop, y apunta principalmente a lectores de poesía, fanzines, novelas gráficas y libros objeto. Aunque el fanzine nace como producto contracultural y barato, a lo largo de los años y con el desarrollo de la tecnología va cambiando su estética, ampliándola. Nuestro proyecto se inclina por una edición de cuidada calidad material y de contenido. En MUR, los poemas, entre la denuncia y el sarcasmo, juegan con la estética queer barrial y los relatos de la militancia de izquierda; las imágenes, lejos de cristalizar lo semántico, ramifican los sentidos. Los materiales utilizados para la factura son, respetando la esencia del fanzine, lo que se tiene a mano. Facultad de Periodismo y Comunicación Social

In Mexico, as in very diverse social contexts, the naturalization of the unequal order of gender is expressed and imagined, as in no other social sphere, in the modern canonical family. The purpose of this work is to show, through the analysis of the postulates and principles that the Frente Nacional por la Familia raises, the foundations that historically support the idea of the natural family and how the naturalistic argument is highly strategic and suggestive in the defense of a gender order that is widely in force in the contemporary social imaginary. Based on the tools provided by feminist epistemology, we will show that, in the claim of a presumably natural family model, underlies the defense of the traditional gender order that, particularly within family relationships, requires critical and objective analyzes of the social relations that this order establishes. Abstract

The study of systematics in wide-ranging seabirds can be challenging due to the vast geographic scales involved, as well as the possible discordance between molecular, morphological and behavioral data. In the Southern Ocean, macaroni penguins (Eudyptes chrysolophus) are distributed over a circumpolar range including populations in Antarctic and sub-Antarctic areas. Macquarie Island, in its relative isolation, is home to a closely related endemic taxon — the royal penguin (Eudyptes schlegeli), which is distinguishable from E. chrysolophus mainly by facial coloration. Although these sister taxa are widely accepted as representing distinct species based on morphological grounds, the extent of their genome-wide differentiation remains uncertain. In this study, we use genome-wide Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms to test genetic differentiation between these geographically isolated taxa and evaluate the main drivers of population structure among breeding colonies of macaroni/royal penguins. Genetic similarity observed between macaroni and royal penguins suggests they constitute a single evolutionary unit. Nevertheless, royal penguins exhibited a tendency to cluster only with macaroni individuals from Kerguelen Island, suggesting that dispersal occurs mainly between these neighboring colonies. A stepping stone model of differentiation of macaroni/royal populations was further supported by a strong pattern of isolation by distance detected across its whole distribution range, possibly driven by large geographic distances between colonies as well as natal philopatry. However, we also detected intraspecific genomic differentiation between Antarctic and sub-Antarctic populations of macaroni penguins, highlighting the role of environmental factors together with geographic distance in the processes of genetic differentiation between Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters.

[ES] Marco teórico. El sector audiovisual ha crecido y evolucionado en los últimos años con la aparición de nuevos productos y empresas que pugnan por alcanzar el liderazgo en el sector, como HBO o Netflix. Así, la “Tercera Edad de Oro de la Televisión” trae consigo un aumento de contenidos sexuales, violentos y estereotipados en las series de televisión. Objetivo. Este estudio tiene por objeto analizar los efectos de estos tres elementos en la construcción del valor de marca, o Brand Equity de una serie, concretamente en el caso de Juego de Tronos. Metodología. Mediante un cuestionario suministrado a una muestra de 240 sujetos, se realizan análisis mediante ecuaciones estructurales a través de LISREL, a fin de determinar la existencia de relaciones entre la actitud hacia el sexo, la violencia y los estereotipos y la formación del Brand Equity. Resultados. Los resultados confirman la existencia de una relación directa y positiva entre las actitudes hacia la violencia, el sexo y los estereotipos y la formación del Brand Equity. Conclusiones. Con esta investigación se incrementa la literatura relacionada con el Brand Equity, en un sector novedoso como son las series de televisión, confirmando la importancia del sexo, la violencia y los estereotipos a la hora de construir el Brand Equity. Implicaciones: Este estudio puede servir de herramienta para las productoras de series de televisión, en general, y de Juego de Tronos, en particular, puesto que deberían equilibrar la presencia de estos contenidos en sus creaciones dado que pueden afectar a la valoración por parte de los espectadores, afectando a su Brand Equity. The audiovisual sector has grown and evolved in recent years with the appearance of new products and companies that strive to achieve leadership in the sector, such as HBO or Netflix. Thus, the “Third Golden Age of Television” brings with it an increase in sexual, violent and stereotyped contents in television series. Objective. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of these three elements in the construction of the Brand Equity of a series, specifically in the case of Game of Thrones. Methodology. Through a questionnaire supplied to a sample of 240 subjects, analyzes are carried out by means of structural equations through LISREL, in order to determine the existence of relationships between attitude toward sex, violence and stereotypes and the formation of Brand Equity. Results. The results confirm the existence of a direct and positive relationship between attitudes towards violence, sex and stereotypes and the formation of Brand Equity. Conclusions. This research increases the literature related to Brand Equity, in a novel sector such as television series, confirming the importance of sex, violence and stereotypes when building Brand Equity. Implications: This study can serve as a tool for the producers of television series, in general, and of Game of Thrones, in particular, since they should balance the presence of these contents in their creations since they can affect the evaluation by the spectators, affecting their Brand Equity.
