This paper explores enhancement of social skills training for security guards with the use of chatbots. More specifically, we designed a chatbot using text and voice as input to study the acceptance and the impact of the system to training security guards in deal with stress situations. The result of a pilot experiment and a survey are presented and discussed. Finally, we discuss possible improvements and future work. This paper shows a chatbot solution for eGLU-box Pro, a usability testing platform for Italian Public Administration (PA). eGLU-box Pro is a web-based tool designed to help PA practitioners in creating remote usability tests and analyzing participants’ answers and interaction data after they complete the usability tasks. The impact of the chatbot solution on users’ experience was assessed by bio-behavioral evaluation methods such as eye tracking, electroencephalography, and facial expression recognition. This work describes the platform and its integrated chatbot solution and shows the results of a preliminary laboratory study involving 20 end-users. The study is part of an ongoing design and development project based on a user-centered approach.

放送大学の受講者を増やすための一つの方策として、離島における学生の新規獲得を目指すことが考えられる。そのためには離島居住者の現状を把握する必要があると考え、長崎県の離島（壱岐市、五島市、対馬市）で質問紙調査とインタビュー調査を実施した。調査の結果、一番の課題は面接授業や単位認定試験のために学習センターに出向くための時間的・経済的負担にあることが分かった。また飛行機や船は天候によって欠航することもあり、それも障害要因になっていた。テレビ番組の受講についても、CATV会社の方針で放送大学の番組が放映されていないケースもあり、テキストだけで学習している者もいた。こうした現状を踏まえ、インターネットによる学習環境の整備や、単位認定試験のインターネット経由での実施などを検討する必要があると考えられた。また知名度の低さに対してPRを重視することも必要と思われた。

Usability and trust have been observed to be related in several domains including web retail, information systems, and e-health. Trust in technology reflects beliefs about the attributes of a technology. Research has shown that trust is a key factor for the success of different systems – e.g., e-market, e-commerce, and social networks. Trust in technology can be supported or prevented by the perceived usability. Therefore, a low level of usability could compromise an individual’s trust in their use of a technology, resulting in a negative attitude towards a product. Even if this relationship has been seen as important in the fields listed above, there is limited research which empirically assesses trust and usability in virtual reality (VR). This work will present the first set of data on the relationship between usability and trust in VR. To gather this data, three different VR systems (Desktop 3D tool, CAVE, and a flight simulator) were tested. The findings show that (i) the best-known questionnaire to measure usability and trust could be applied to VR, (ii) there is a strong relationship between people’s satisfaction and trust in the use of VR, (iii) the relationship between usability and trust exists for different systems.

The consortium of the Innovate UK funded Live Augmented Reality Training Environments (LARTE) project, composed of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Holovis International Ltd and The University of Nottingham, developed a new concept of a 3D multiplatform training system to train the procedural skills of service maintenance operators. The LARTE tool was designed on the basis of JLR needs and desiderata. This paper presents the functionalities of the initial prototype of LARTE training system, and outcomes of an evaluation study of the usability of the product.

Agents that are able to build relationships with the people they are interacting with are envisioned to be more successful in long-term interactions. Small talk about impersonal topics has been found an adequate tool in human-agent interactions for manipulation of such relationships. We suspect that an agent and the interaction with it will be evaluated even more positively when the agent talks about personal information it remembers about its interlocutor from previous encounters. In this paper a model of person memory that provides virtual agents with information needed in social conversations is presented. An interaction study demonstrates the impact of personal information in human-agent conversations and validates the performance of our model.

The 3-volume set LNCS 9169, 9170, 9171 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2015, held in Los Angeles, CA, USA, in August 2015.
