The magnetization reversal process in the surface and volume areas of Co-rich glass covered microwires has been investigated. The value of the helical anisotropy has been determined in two wires with different thickness of glass covering. The dependence of the coercive field on the frequency of the external axial magnetic field was studied in the surface and volume of the microwires. Nanocrystalline Fe-based materials have superior magnetic softness. Experimental data on the magnetization curve M(H) of magnetically soft nanocrystalline Fe(sub73.5)Cu(sub2)Nb(sub3)Si(sub13.5)B(sub9) was analyzed based on the random anisotropy model. M(H)/Ms=1-4(K)(super2)/(15M(super2)sH(super2)) was obtained near the saturation.

We propose a modified setup of the conventional induction method to investigate the coupling between ferromagnetic bistable wires. The idea is to prevent the saturation by an application of two additional coils near the wire ends in a conventional measurement of the hysteresis loop of the wires. In this way, the fluctuations of the switching field are eliminated. Theoretically, the system is described by phenomenological equations of motion, one equation per wire. The hysteresis loop calculated numerically agrees qualitatively with the experimental results. Bistability of CoSiB amorphous alloys are influenced by CoSiB torsion. Externally applied torsion of 20-pi radians per meter enables the determination of switching field and remanence magnetization. The measurements indicate that torsion-induced helical anisotropy influences the bistability of Co amorphous wires.

The examination of the giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect and the surface magnetic structure performed in the series of glass covered Co-rich amorphous microwires with different thicknesses of glass covering is described. The studies have shown that the angle of the surface helical anisotropy, for which the highest value of GMI, is close to 60 degree.

Investigations on measurements of the coercive field and the magnetization work of nanocrystalline Fe(sub 73.5)Cu(sub 1)Nb(sub 3)Si(sub 13.5)B(sub 9) alloy are reported. Nanocrystalline samples are prepared from an amorphous precursor by Joule heating in the presence of tensile stress of 420 MPa.
