Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis of the knee leads to pain, difficulty in joint, reduced ROM and impaired Proprioceptive accuracy. PNF stretching are used to improve muscle flexibility, pain, ROM. Recently, impaired Proprioceptive accuracy of the knee has been proposed as a local factor in the onset and progression of radiographic knee OA.PNF technique is specifically designed to stimulate mechanoreceptors and Literature show significant effect of static as well as PNF stretching on clinical symptoms of OA knee, but impaired Proprioception is yet not so focused. Aim: Aim of the study was to find out the effect of PNF stretching on Proprioception and Physical Function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methodology: 50 participants were Selected according to selection criteria and randomly divided into PNF and Control Group. in which Outcome Measure for Proprioception by Absolute Angle error with use of universal Goniometer and Physical Function by Gujarati Version of WOMAC(mWOMAC)Results and Discussion: The result of the present study shows significant improvement found in the PNF group with p value <0.05 for Proprioception and Physical function. Conclusion: Here the study concluded that PNF stretching is statistically and clinically shows significantly effective in Proprioception as well as physical function in OA knee patients. Abstract

Background: Prevalence of hamstring muscle tightness among undergraduate students shows 40.17%. Hamstring muscle tightness is “inability to extend the knee completely when the hip is flexed accompanied by discomfort or pain along the posterior thigh and/or knee is usually attributed to. Dynamic soft tissue mobilization developed with the aim of increase muscle length. It utilizes combine technique classic massage followed by dynamic component with the limb is moved through its range. Retro – walking is a dynamic activity which can improve be used to treat the flexibility as well as dynamic balance. Aim: To find out the effect of dynamic soft tissue mobilization with retro - walking on hamstring flexibility and dynamic balance in young collegiate students. Methodology: 25 subjects were selected Based on the selection criterion, the whole procedure of the study was explained to all the subjects. Prior and after to treatment both the outcome measures, Active Knee Extension Test and Y - Balance Test were measured. Intervention in the form of Dynamic Soft Tissue Mobilization Technique with Retro – walking were given alternate 3 sessions per week for 4 weeks. Results and Discussion: The data were analysed by Paired t test. P value for both the outcome measures were <0.05 which shows significant improvement by improving flexibility and dynamic balance. Conclusion: Intervention of the study was effective, very simple and easy to apply in Hamstring tightness subjects. So it can be implemented clinically as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the interest of identifying new leads that could serve as prototype agrochemical agents, 18 structurally diverse marine-derived compounds were examined for insecticidal, herbicidal, and fungicidal activities. Several new classes of compounds have been shown to be insecticidal, herbicidal, and fungicidal, which suggests that marine natural products represent an intriguing source for the discovery of new agrochemical agents.

Abstract

Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a complex disorder affecting 5-15% women in their reproductive age and related to ovarian dysfunction, characterized by menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogonism, obesity, and infertility. In Ayurveda, these symptoms are found under various conditions, caused by vitiated Vata and Kapha. Pathadi Kwatha and Shatapushpa Taila Matra Basti were studied in the current attempt to evaluate their comparative efficacy in cases of PCOD. Total 34 patients of PCOD were registered among which, 32 had completed the treatment of 2 months. They were randomly divided in to three groups. In group A Pathadi Kwatha (10 g, bid) and Shatapushpa Taila Matra Basti (60 ml for 7 days after cessation of menses for 2 consecutive cycles) were administered. In group B only Basti, whereas in group C capsules of roosted wheat flour were administered. Better results were obtained in group A especially in menstrual irregularities, achieving follicular growth and in weight reduction.

Abstract

Background: Post-operative nausea & vomiting is a common and distressing complaint observed after Modified Radical Mastectomy surgery performed under General Anaesthesia. We compare the effect of combined palonosetron (0.075 mg) & dexamethasone (8mg) versus dexamethasone(8mg) administered i.v. alone for controlling post-operative nausea & vomiting in MRM Patients by means of a Randomized double blind control study. Materials & Method: In a prospective randomized study 50 patients of ASA I and ASA II undergoing elective Modified Radical Mastectomy under general anaesthesia were allocated in two groups(25 patients in each). Group A (Dexona Group) received 8 mg dexona before induction of anaesthesia. GroupB (Palonosetron +dexona Group) received IV DEX 8mg+Palonosetron 0.075 mg before induction of anaesthesia The incidence of PONV, need for rescue antiemetics and complete response was recorded at the end of 0,2,4, 6 hr,12 hrs,24 hrs. Results: The incidence of complete response (no PONV, no rescue medication) was 88% (p=0.025) for the early post-operative period (0-6 h) in the combination P+D group and 84% (p=0.032)for the late (6-24 hr) period as compared to 56% and 52% in the dexona only group in the early (0-6h) and the late (6-24h) post-operative period respectively. Conclusion: Palonosetron –DEX combined regimen given before anaesthesia induction is an effective regimen for early (0-6 hr) and late (6-24 hr) PONV with significantly lower incidence of PONV, higher incidence of complete response and better patient satisfaction. Abstract

Introduction: Intravenous therapy is indicated for many reasons. A significant number of patients admitted into hospital receive some forms of intravenous therapy through peripheral venous cannula, which is a common procedure carried out in hospital to allow rapid and accurate administration of medication. However, the intravenous cannulation can have undesirable effects, the most of which is phlebitis, which is due to mechanical, chemical or infectious cause. Method: In this study quasi-experimental research approach was used. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample from the selected hospital. The research design adopted for the study was pre-test, post-test control group design. In the present study a sample of 60 hospitalised patients and who met the inclusion criteria was selected from the target population. In this study the instruments used are baseline Performa, structured interview schedule to assess the subjective symptoms and observation scale to observe the objective symptoms. Result: In experimental group post test mean score 1.10, SD was 0.71 respectively. In control group post test mean score 2.53, SD was 0.78 respectively. The obtained value 7.454 statistically was significant at 0.001 levels. So research hypothesis was accepted. So there was significant difference between post intervention phlebitis among the experimental group and control group. Discussion: In the research study findings revealed that Glycerin Magnesium sulphate dressing is highly effective in decrease phlebitis level to the patients.

Abstract

To evaluate the efficacy of rofecoxib (Vioxx) in subpopulations of patients with osteoarthritis (OA) identified by demographic or baseline disease characteristics, or varied OA involvement.Data were combined from three 6-week double blind trials in patients with OA of the knee or hip. All trials contained placebo, 12.5 mg rofecoxib, and 25 mg rofecoxib arms (the only trials to date containing all 3 treatments). Analyses were performed on subgroups categorized according to the following baseline demographics and disease characteristics [age, sex, height, weight, body mass index, American Rheumatism Association (ARA) functional class, joint tenderness, joint stiffness, Western Ontario-McMaster University OA Index (WOMAC) functional subscale, unilateral/bilateral joint involvement, number of joint groups involved]. Three primary endpoints--Pain Walking on Flat Surface (WOMAC), Patient Global Assessment of Response to Therapy, and Investigator Global Assessment of Disease Status--were analyzed. The global assessments, which provided data on overall aspects of OA, regardless of affected joint, were used to assess effects among patients with one, 2, 3, or 4 joint groups affected (from among the following: interphalangeal/first carpal-metacarpal joint, spine, hip, or knee).Data from 1501 patients were included. No consistent treatment-by-subgroup interaction was observed with all 3 primary endpoints for patients taking placebo or 12.5 or 25 mg rofecoxib. Rofecoxib showed generally consistent efficacy across subgroups of patients identified by sex, race, age, OA location(s), prior OA therapy, baseline study joint tenderness or swelling (patients with knee OA only), and ARA functional class level.In this combined analysis, no specific factor predicted a differential treatment effect to rofecoxib.

Abstract

The influence of uremic serum on 125I-fibrinogen binding by normal blood platelets after induction with adenosine diphosphate was evaluated. The study was performed on 12 hemodialyzed uremic patients. The control group included 12 healthy subjects. It has been demonstrated that the uremic serum from the patients before hemodialysis significantly augmented fibrinogen binding by normal blood platelets (33.8 +/- 11.8%) in comparison with control subjects (14.4 +/- 8.9%). After hemodialysis, fibrinogen binding was comparable with the control group (14.9 +/- 10.1%). Uremic toxins removable during hemodialysis are probably responsible for the potentiation of 125I-fibrinogen binding by platelets.

When simultaneously analysing experimental data on the processes ππ → ππ,K&Kmacr;, ηη in the channel with the vacuum quantum number, definite indications of the QCD nature of the f0 resonances below 1.9 GeV are obtained. Abstract

Combined analysis the experimental data on the processes ππ → ππ K&Kmacr; in the channel with I[sup G]J[sup PC] = 0[sup +]0[sup ++] in a model-independent approach leads to the following results: 1) The f[sub 0] (665) state with properties of the σ-meson is proved to exist; 2) It is shown that the f[sup 0](980) and especially f[sup 0](1370) (if exists) have a dominant s&smacr; component; 3) Indications for the glueball nature of the f[sub 0] (1500) and for the considerable s&smacr; component in the f[sub 0] (1710) are obtained; 4) Conclusion on the linear realization of chiral symmetry (χS) is drawn.
