Persistent inequities in access to and experiences of learning in postsecondary education have been well documented. In line with efforts to redress these inequities and develop more just institutions, this study explores the potential for pedagogical partnerships in which students and faculty collaborate on teaching and learning initiatives to contribute to classroom equity. We investigate this issue by drawing on qualitative interviews with students who have participated in extracurricular pedagogical partnership programs in institutions in Canada and the United States, and who identify as members of marginalized groups (e.g., racialized students, 2SLGBTQ+ students, students from religious minorities, disabled students). While much existing research on equity and student-faculty partnership primarily focuses on the outcomes of partnership for participating students, we instead investigate students' perceptions of the extent to which their partnership efforts contributed to wider impacts--such as developments in faculty thinking and teaching practice and student experiences in the classroom. We also consider challenges students noted connected to power imbalances and faculty resistance, which influence partnership's capacity to contribute to equity and raise important considerations for those interested in partnership practice.

The recently developed Li-excess cation-disordered rock salts (DRXs) exhibit an excellent chemical diversity for the development of alternative Co/Ni-free high-energy cathodes. Herein, the synthesis of a highly fluorinated DRX cathode, Li1.2Mn0.6Ti0.2O1.8F0.2, based on cost-effective and earth-abundant transition metals, via a solid-state reaction, is reported. The fluorinated DRX cathode using ammonium fluoride precursor exhibits more uniform particle size and delivers a specific discharge capacity of 233 mAh g−1 and specific energy of 754 Wh kg−1, with 206 mAh g−1 retained after 200 cycles. The combined synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering spectroscopy analysis reveals that the remarkable cycling performance is attributed to the high fluorination and thus enhanced Mn content, enabling the utilization of more Mn redox than the oxide analog. This study demonstrates a great promise to develop next-generation cost-effective DRX cathodes with enhanced capacity retention for high-energy Li-ion batteries.

This research explores the potential of coir fibre as a sustainable and effective reinforcement material to enhance the compressive strength (CS) of concrete. The influence of the fibre volume fraction (FVF) and fibre length (FL) on the CS of the coir fibre reinforced concrete was studied using the response surface method (RSM). The selected range for the FVF was from 4 % to 12 %, and the FL varied from 0.4 cm to 1.2 cm, as per the experimental design. The research determined that the coir fibre with an FVF of 4 % and an FL of 10 mm yielded the maximum CS for the reinforced concrete cubes, measuring 34 N/mm2. Furthermore, an increase in fibre content was observed to lead to a decrease in the workability of coir fibre-reinforced concrete. Furthermore, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses of the control and coir fibres extracted from the concrete cubes after a period of 1 year indicated no significant changes in the functional properties, thermal properties and crystallinity of the fibres.

IntroductionThis study explores potential application of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to treat periodontal infection using Azadirachta indica leaf extract. The eco-friendly green synthesis process uses Azadirachta indica as a natural stabilizer and reducer, allowing AgNPs to be formed.MethodsExperimental AgNPs were characterized through transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Zeta potential, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) etc. The antimicrobial, antioxidant potential of AgNPs was tested to identify its efficacy against periodontal infections.Results and discussionAgNPs were found spherical, nanosized (86 nm), with negative surface charge (−26.9 mV). TEM study depicted clear formation of discrete nanosize particles with smooth surface texture. Results showed strong antibacterial and anti-oxidant action of experimental AgNPs, preventing biofilm growth and bacterial viability. A higher binding affinity was observed between Quercetin and the selected protein, which is implicated in bacterial growth and biofilm formation on teeth. The study suggests that Azadirachta indica derived AgNPs could be a safe, efficacious, and eco-friendly alternative in place of conventional therapies to treat periodontal infection. Future in vivo studies are however warranted.

Compressive strength and calcium ion release are integral properties of Biodentine for its enhanced efficiency. The present study evaluated the effects of Dual Rinse HEDP (DR HEDP), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) on the calcium ion release and compressive strength of Biodentine. Eighty Biodentine specimens were moulded and randomly divided into four groups (n = 20). Samples in group 1 were treated with 17 % EDTA; group 2 with DR HEDP; group 3 with 2.5 % NaOCl; and group 4 with distilled water. Samples were immersed in 10 mL of the test solutions for 1 min. The mean concentration of the calcium ion released was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The remaining 40 samples were tested for their compressive strength. Significant differences were determined among all the irrigants tested for calcium ion release and compressive strength. Samples treated with NaOCl had the lowest calcium ion release, while samples treated with 17 % EDTA had the largest calcium ions. No significant differences were measured between DR HEDP or distilled water. For compressive strength, samples treated with 2.5 % NaOCl had the lowest strength, while the highest values were obtained with distilled water. There was a significant difference between DR HEDP and EDTA, in which EDTA reduced the compressive strength significantly more than DR HEDP. DR HEDP had less detrimental effect on the calcium ion release and compressive strength of Biodentine.

Academic performance is taken as the process of carrying out academic activities and discourses by faculty members to enhance their academic activities and discourses. The purpose of this research was to identify the faculty member's level of academic performance in higher educational institutions. To conduct this research, a quantitative methodology was employed. The tools to measure the academic performance of faculty members were developed using Delphi method. The data were collected with 445 sampled respondents from four universities. The factor analysis was used to explore the dimensions of academic performance. The factor analysis identified four factors of academic performance i.e., research and publication, innovation, interactive learning, and capacity building. To analyze the level of academic performance, mean and the standard deviation was used. It was found that individual differences and the organizational environment, culture, and technological infrastructure were crucial to influence the pace and level academic performance in academia.

Introduction: Success in endodontics depends on canal preparation, disinfection, and obturation. Cleaning and shaping play a pivotal role in successful endodontic therapy. An important factor in preventing procedural mishaps and further complications is the quantity of dentine removed during instrumentation because the fracture resistance of the root is directly influenced by the amount of dentine that remains after instrumentation. Aim: To evaluate and compare the remaining dentine thickness of the root canal after instrumentation with three different rotary file systems using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging. Materials and Methods: Thirty permanent extracted, single-rooted teeth were collected. The samples were decoronated at the level of the Cementoenamel Junction (CEJ). A pre-instrumentation CBCT scan was taken. Access opening and working length were determined. The samples were randomly assigned to three groups: Group I - Edge Endo X7, Group II- Hero Gold, Group III - Neo-endo flex files. Biomechanical preparation was carried out using the respective files. To evaluate the remaining dentine thickness, a comparison was made with the pre-instrumentation CBCT scan. Statistical analysis was performed using One-way ANOVA. Results: Upon inter-group comparison of the pre-instrumentation group, no significant difference (p≥0.05) was observed. Post-instrumentation, it was noted that the remaining dentine thickness in Group I (p≤0.05) at the apical third was significantly less than in Group II (p=0.007) and Group III (p=0.042). Maximum preservation of dentine was seen with Hero gold files, whereas the minimum preservation of dentine was seen with Edge Endo X7. Conclusion: Hero gold files exhibited less removal of dentine apically, whereas Edge Endo X7 showed more removal of dentine apically.

Introduction: Bone age (BA) assessment is important in evaluating disorders of growth and puberty; the Greulich and Pyle atlas method (GP) is most used. We aimed to determine the weightage to be attributed by raters to various segments of the hand x-ray, namely, distal end of radius-ulna (RU), carpals, and short bones for rating bone age using the GP atlas method. Methods: 692 deidentified x-rays from a previous study (PUNE-dataset) and 400 from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA-dataset) were included in the study. Mean of BA assessed by experienced raters was termed reference rating. Linear regression was used to model reference age as function of age ratings of the three segments. The root-mean-square-error (RMSE) of segmental arithmetic mean and weighted mean with respect to reference rating were computed for both datasets. Results: Short bones were assigned the highest weightage. Carpals were assigned higher weightage in pre-pubertal PUNE participants as compared to RSNA, vice-versa in RU segment of post-pubertal participants. The RMSE of weighted mean ratings was significantly lower than for the arithmetic mean in the PUNE dataset. Conclusion: We thus determined weightage to be attributed by raters to segments of the hand x-ray for assessment of bone age by the GP method.

Purpose: To compare occlusal schemes with condylar inclination and anterior guidance in dentate individuals. Materials and Methods: A total of 26 dentate patients of Indian origin between the ages of 18 and 30 with canine-guided occlusion and 26 patients with group function occlusion were included in the study. The School of Articulator Munich (SAM) Axioquick system was used to assess the condylar guidance and eccentric tracings of the patients. For analyses, Student t test was used. For quantitative data, the means and SDs were calculated. For statistical analyses, the probability of type-I error of .05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean condylar guidance for canine-guided and group function occlusion was 38.4 ± 12.7 degrees and 30.5 ± 12.5 degrees on the right side, respectively. On the left side it was 36.5 ± 13.0 degrees and 27.5 ± 12.0 degrees for canine-guided and group function occlusion, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (P = .01). The condylar guidance, incisal guidance, Bennett angle, protrusion, left lateral and right lateral movement, and left and right lateral angles were analyzed statistically between the two types of occlusions. The results showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups for all parameters except right condylar guidance. Furthermore, all parameters were higher in the canine-guided occlusion group over group function occlusion. Conclusions: Within the study limitations, it was concluded that the condylar guidance was steeper in canine-guided occlusion than in group function occlusion. The eccentric parameters were steeper in canine-guided occlusion than in group function occlusion. This study showcases that the condylar guidance might not play a major role in determining the occlusal scheme but that the incisal guidance determines the occlusal scheme predominantly in Class 1 occlusion patients. Introduction The burden of multimorbidity is recognised increasingly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), creating a strong emphasis on the need for effective evidence-based interventions. Core outcome sets (COS) appropriate for the study of multimorbidity in LMICs do not presently exist. These are required to standardise reporting and contribute to a consistent and cohesive evidence-base to inform policy and practice. We describe the development of two COS for intervention trials aimed at preventing and treating multimorbidity in adults in LMICs.Methods To generate a comprehensive list of relevant prevention and treatment outcomes, we conducted a systematic review and qualitative interviews with people with multimorbidity and their caregivers living in LMICs. We then used a modified two-round Delphi process to identify outcomes most important to four stakeholder groups (people with multimorbidity/caregivers, multimorbidity researchers, healthcare professionals and policymakers) with representation from 33 countries. Consensus meetings were used to reach agreement on the two final COS. Registration: https://www.comet-initiative.org/Studies/Details/1580.Results The systematic review and qualitative interviews identified 24 outcomes for prevention and 49 for treatment of multimorbidity. An additional 12 prevention and 6 treatment outcomes were added from Delphi round 1. Delphi round 2 surveys were completed by 95 of 132 round 1 participants (72.0%) for prevention and 95 of 133 (71.4%) participants for treatment outcomes. Consensus meetings agreed four outcomes for the prevention COS: (1) adverse events, (2) development of new comorbidity, (3) health risk behaviour and (4) quality of life; and four for the treatment COS: (1) adherence to treatment, (2) adverse events, (3) out-of-pocket expenditure and (4) quality of life.Conclusion Following established guidelines, we developed two COS for trials of interventions for multimorbidity prevention and treatment, specific to adults in LMIC contexts. We recommend their inclusion in future trials to meaningfully advance the field of multimorbidity research in LMICs.PROSPERO registration number CRD42020197293.

The government of Nepal has endorsed several policy documents related to agriculture and livestock in the past few decades. However, there is a lack of comprehensive review, especially in the dairy sector. Therefore, this study aims to i) make a systematic review of current dairy policies, ii) assess their operational status, and iii) identify issues and gaps to recommend potential policy solutions. The study is based on a qualitative approach by reviewing 26 national and provincial policy documents of the agriculture and livestock sector and interviewing 10 key experts and three private dairy farmers. The study conducted a thematic analysis using the framework method. The study critically analyzed the key policy provisions and their effectiveness under six major themes: commercial milk production, breed improvement, animal feed and feeding, animal health and nutrition, safety, quality and welfare, and post-production. The findings state that dairy policies provide various provisions of support and services. It has impacted the farm level with a gradual increase in milk production and enhanced access to inputs and services for milk producers. However, there are still some constraints in implementing the policies. The provisions and services stated in the policy documents are inadequate to address the needs of farmers. The high cost of milk production, low adoption of productive breeds, and nutritious fodder are further constraints. Strict regulations for milk quality, milk marketing, and control of epidemic diseases need to be imposed through policy provisions. Thus, the policies should be adjusted to increase access to extension services, human resource mobilization, and value-addition opportunities. Further, this study serves as a useful guide to formulating and adjusting policies for dairy sector development to address the production gaps.

Adsorption of heavy metals from wastewater using agricultural waste materials has been implemented over the years due to their inexpensiveness and abundance. Manganese (Mn) is a heavy metal used in several industries which can pollute the groundwater significantly. The dried seeds of Moringa oleifera, a drought-resistant tree, grown in several parts of Saudi Arabia were selected for the removal of Mn from aqueous solutions. The seeds of three different particle sizes were utilized under two different acidic pH to establish the adsorption of the metal with different dosages. The optimum adsorption properties were observed at a pH of 3, time of 2 hours, and particle size of 250 μm for a dosage of 0.2 g at room temperature with metal removal efficiency higher than 92 %. The adsorption data were utilized to plot adsorption isotherms. The powder was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) before and after adsorption experiments. Both techniques confirmed the presence of Mn (II) ions after adsorption experiments in the Moringa powder which corroborates the hypothesis that these kinds of agricultural wastes can remove the heavy metals easily due to the presence of several organic groups in them. The adsorption kinetic studies showed that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms fit well the experimental data obtained. Moreover, the intra-particle diffusion model of the kinetic studies can explain the adsorption process of Mn ions from water.

Hydrocephalus Ex-vacuo refers to an elevated volume with no increasing Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) pressure, particularly in instances of diminished brain tissue. Since there is no increased intracranial pressure in Hydrocephalus Ex-vacuo, few general symptoms such as irritability, drowsiness, and even larger head presentation can be absent compared to congenital hydrocephalus. The current case study presents a one-year-old male child exhibiting delays in developmental milestones, including poor head and trunk control, associated with a history of prenatal bleeding and subsequent birth complications. Despite a seemingly normal birth, the child experienced postnatal complications such as vomiting, seizures, and abdominal distension, leading to a 15-day Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) stay. Persistent delays prompted medical consultations, culminating in a referral for physiotherapy following Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) findings indicative of hydrocephalus ex-vacuo. Clinical assessments revealed a restricted range of motion, muscle tightness in the lower extremities, and poor muscle control and reflex persistence. Imaging confirmed ventricular enlargement consistent with Hydrocephalus Ex-vacuo, necessitating targeted physiotherapy interventions. Therapeutic strategies focused on promoting head and trunk control through prone positioning, bolster support, and dynamic exercises utilising physio balls. Progressive interventions facilitated significant improvements within six months, highlighting the efficacy of early rehabilitation and parental involvement in achieving motor milestones. The present case underscores the importance of timely diagnosis, multidisciplinary collaboration, and rehabilitative interventions in optimising outcomes for children with hydrocephalus ex-vacuo. Further research is warranted to explore additional therapeutic modalities and long-term prognostic indicators for this patient population.
