Double bituminous surface treatment (DBST) has been a widely utilized pavement maintenance material due to its capability to restore the surface roughness of existing pavement and provide a layer of protection against weathering, aging, and moisture. However, DBST is highly prone to aggregate loss at an early stage, which is a very common problem experienced by surface treatment. Therefore, to lessen the aggregate loss and prolong the service life of DBST, fiber additive can be incorporated to strengthen the adhesion between the asphalt emulsion and aggregates. This study investigated the performance of glass fiber-reinforced polymer-modified DBST against aggregate loss by conducting laboratory tests using typical DBST as the benchmark of the test results. Four laboratory tests were chosen to represent different loading applications on the surface of the pavement: the bitumen bond strength (BBS) test, the sweep test, the Hamburg wheel-track test (HWT test), and a one-third-scale model mobile load simulator (MMLS3) model. Furthermore, the curing time of the asphalt emulsion was considered in the BBS test and sweep test. Based on all results from the conducted laboratory tests, polymer-modified DBST with glass fiber reinforcement presented an increased resistance to aggregate loss compared with typical DBST. Moreover, it was found that a longer curing time of the asphalt emulsion, whether it was typical or modified, strengthened the surface treatment's resistance to aggregate loss. The Hospital Central de Quelimane (HCQ) is a regional hospital in Quelimane, capital city of the province of Zambezia in Mozambique. The HCQ serves as a regional base hospital for urgent and severe patients.Methods: Four emergency medicine (EM) residents participated in our 2017– 2018 rotational program for HCQ, to share medical knowledge with the local medical doctors and support the demands of medical equipment skills and educational programs. We determined the current capabilities of HCQ and designed a rotational program in accordance with the demands in the following areas: resuscitation, trauma, critical care, and radiology. We also introduced continuous education programs and administrative methods for future development of education.Results: Throughout the four rotations of our EM residents, we conducted daily education and several practical lessons based on the demands of the local doctors and equipment operation. The educational program was administered by an educational administrator who was responsible for updating the medical and technical knowledge of doctors. With our programs, the doctors of HCQ were able to perform resuscitation and critical protocols, including manipulating equipment such as mechanical ventilator and defibrillator.Conclusion: The rotation program by the four residents was successful, in terms of sharing medical knowledge and equipment management, and filling gaps identified in the operation of a modern hospital.Keywords: international cooperation, Mozambique, developing countries, internship and residency

The quantum plasmonics field has emerged and been growing increasingly, including study of single emitter-light coupling using plasmonic system and scalable quantum plasmonic circuit. This offers opportunity for the quantum control of light with compact device footprint. However, coupling of a single emitter to highly localized plasmonic mode with nanoscale precision remains an important challenge. Today, the spatial overlap between metallic structure and single emitter mostly relies either on chance or on advanced nanopositioning control. Here, we demonstrate deterministic coupling between three-dimensionally nanofocused plasmonic modes and single quantum dots (QDs) without any positioning for single QDs. By depositing a thin silver layer on a site-controlled pyramid QD wafer, three-dimensional plasmonic nanofocusing on each QD at the pyramid apex is geometrically achieved through the silver-coated pyramid facets. Enhancement of the QD spontaneous emission rate as high as 22 ± 16 is measured for all processed QDs emitting over ∼150-meV spectral range. This approach could apply to high fabrication yield on-chip devices for wide application fields, e.g., high-efficiency light-emitting devices and quantum information processing.
