Based on several type specimens and material collected from various localities, the East Asian species of Crangon are revised. C. affinis De Haan, 1849, C. propinquus Stimpson, 1860, C. dalli Rathbun, 1902a, C. hakodatei, Rathbun, 1902b, C. cassiope De Man, 1906, C. amurensis Brashnikov, 1907 and C. uritai new species are recognized. C. affinis is given full specific status. A neotype is designated for C. propinquus. C. septemspinosa forma amurensis and C. septemspinosa forma anivensis are assigned to C. amurensis. The taxonomic status of C. dalli, C. hakodatei and C. cassiope is clarified by the examination of the type specimens and/or topotypic specimens. Each species is diagnosed and illustrated. C. uritai, which had been confused with C. affinis, is fully described and illustrated. Syntheses of novel amino acids possessing a squaryl group, 1−3, in an optically active form are described. The syntheses of 1−3 were conducted by a concise route involving (1) an aldol addition of an enolate derived from Gly, l-Asp, or l-Glu to diisopropyl squarate (4) and (2) an efficient decarboxylation of the aldol adducts based on the electron-withdrawing property of the squaryl group. Introducing N-protected group to 2 and 3 and peptide formation reactions are also described.

It is favorable for the bolometer material used as an uncooled infrared detector device to have large TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance) near room temperature. La1-xCaxMnOz (LCMO) not only shows colossal magnetoresistance, but also has large TCR for the bolometer material. LCMO thin films deposited on LaA103 in several conditions by laser ablation method and were measured their resistivities to estimate TCR and analyzed their mechanism for the oxygen deficiency effect. As a result, we have got thin films which show large TCR by changing oxygen pressure in verger and anneal temperature. The oxygen deficiency effect clarifies to us that it is possible to apply LCMO thin films to bolometer materials.

The systematic experimental study of direct transition “nonconvective state – spatiotemporal chaos” in electrohydrodynamic convection of a homeotropically aligned nematic is carried out. The transient patterns, both below and beyond the Lifshitz point, are studied and classified. The patterns initially correspond to oblique and normal rolls, respectively. In all the cases the transition to chaos undergoes slow spatiotemporal modulations of the local roll orientation. This results in the final dynamical patterns isotropic on large spatial scales. The dynamics of the final patterns are also studied with a quantitative analysis of the power spectra of turbulent modes and their autocorrelation functions. The exponential decay of the correlations in time is proved.

Olefination of dialkyl squarates 1–5 with several ylides 6 and phosphonates 7 gave the corresponding alkylidene products 8–12 . In the case of Horner-Emmons reactions, stereoselective formation of Z -alkylidene products was observed. An acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of 8–12 gave squarylacetic acid esters 13 .

Abstruct Pattern dynamics in a weakly nonlinear regime near the onset of the electrohydrodynamic instability (EHDI) is experimentally investigated in the homeotropic alignment of nematic liquid crystals, of which morphology is introduced. The wavy, chain and bamboo-chevron patterns are observed in homeotropic samples as new patterns. The Busse balloon is also obtained which is quite different from the conventional balloons in EHDI in planar liquid crystals.

The quantitative experimental study of the Eckhaus instability in one-dimensional systems is carried out, employing electrohydrodynamic convection in a nematic layer. The obtained Busse balloon is in good agreement with that predicted by the Eckhaus theory. However, the observed changes of the wavenumber for unstable roll patterns, caused by the Eckhaus instability, as well as the growth rates for the corresponding spatial modes differ dramatically from those the theory yields for the most unstable Eckhaus modes. Possible reasons for the disagreement are discussed.

The electrohydrodynamic pattern forming instability (EHC) driven by an ac voltage applied to a homeotropically aligned nematic liquid crystal layer is experimentally studied near onset. By controlling an external magnetic field, many different scenarios become accessible. For finite fields various regular convective structures are observed, which we call, for example, wavy, chain, and bamboo-chevron patterns. The various types are documented with the help of a phase diagram governed by the frequency and the strength of the applied ac voltage. In addition the stability regimes in the voltage−wavenumber plane (the “Busse balloon”) are mapped out. One finds significant differences from the conventional planar case, for which a theoretical analysis is lacking so far. For zero magnetic field, on the other hand, no regular structure is observed, even immediately above the onset of EHC. The degradation of the spatial resolution in frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) reflec-tometry due to the nonlinearity in the optical frequency sweep are discussed both experimentally and theoretically. The response lag in the optical frequency change of a laser diode behind the injection current change was experimentally measured, showing that there were several time constants in the optical frequency response. The interference signals in the FMCW reflectometry were theoretically calculated by taking account of the response lag. From these calculations, the beat frequency becomes low just after the turning point of the optical frequency sweep; this is due to the response lag in the optical frequency response. As a result, the spectrum of the interference signal is spread out toward the low frequency region and spatial resolution is degraded. Moreover, the spatial resolution is seriously degraded with increasing the diagnosing distance due to the nonlinearity in the optical frequency sweep. The calculated results agree well with the measured results.

An enolate-like intermediate A derived from 1,2-dioxo-3-isopropyloxy-4-methyl-3-cyclobutene ( 6 ) has proven to be a novel nucleophilic synthon for an aldol condensation reaction with an arylaldehyde to give a variety of 4-hydroxy-2,3-dioxocyclobut-1-enyl group (Sq group)-containing cinnamic acid derivatives.

As a method of high-bit-rate optical processing, the TM light injection-induced optical polarization bistability using Fabry-Perot type laser diodes has been experimentally demonstrated and theoretically analyzed. In these studies, although switching times less than 1 ns both for switch-up and switch-down have been reported, both of the TE and TM outputs exhibit longitudinal multimode spectra. In practical processing systems, a dynamically stable operation of the polarization switching is considered to be essential. It is the purpose of this paper to present an analytical study of the TM light injection-induced polarization bistability using a lambda /4-shifted distributed feedback (DFB) laser model and to describe the detailed picture of the mechanism. >

今回われわれは直腸平滑筋腫の1例を経験したので報告する.症例は66歳の女性, 肛門部不快感, 下血を主訴に入院した.注腸造影, 直腸鏡, 骨盤computed tomography, magnetic resonance imagingなどの検査により直腸粘膜下腫瘍 (平滑筋腫疑い) と診断し手術を施行した.全身麻酔下に経仙骨的に腫瘍に達し, 腫瘍を摘出した.摘出標本は4.0×4.0×5.2cmの白色の充実性腫瘍で2.0×3.0×3.0cmのdaughter noduleと一塊になっていた.病理組織学的に平滑筋腫と診断された.直腸平滑筋腫はその良性悪性の鑑別が時に困難で, 悪性化例も報告されており, 慎重な術後経過観察を要するものと思われた.

A simple method for measuring the linewidth enhancement factor alpha of a semiconductor laser by optical injection locking is described. Without knowledge of the absolute values of detuning and the optical injection level, the value of alpha is evaluated from only changes in optical power in the stable optical injection-locking state. The value of alpha of a 0.83-microm channeled substrate planar laser is evaluated to be 2.65 +/- 0.2. The measurement error of this method is also discussed.

金沢大学工学部, The reflection-type delayed self-homodyne (RDSH) method presently described is based on the same principle as the delayed self-homodyne/heterodyne (DSH) method but no beam splitter or fiber coupler is required. The delayed beam is produced by utilizing a round-trip propagation passing through a solitary long optical fiber delay line. Therefore, the optical configuration is very simple, and the beat signal has a resolution twice that of the DSH method. However, the RDSH method's drawback is that a large intensity difference between the two beams reduces the level of the beat signal. This can be improved by increasing the reflectivities of the fiber ends by dielectric coating. In this case, multiple reflection at the fiber ends should be taken into account. An improvement of more than 12 dB is analytically predicted and is experimentally confirmed. A heterodyning scheme of the RDSH method is also presented.

A boric acid concentration meter was developed for continuous measurment of the 10B concentration in heavy water in a nuclear reactor. The principle of the meter is based on slowingdown of fast neutrons from a radioisotopic neutron source by heavy water and absorption of slowed-down neutrons by 10B depending on its concentraion.The errors in the measurement are casused by temperature changes, photoneutron generation etc. in sampled heavy water and instrumental instability of a neutron measuring system. Laboratory tests with fresh heavy water containing no γ-emitter and demonstration tests at "FUGEN" power plant were carried out, to evaluate the factors of errors separately, and correction techniques for photoneutrons etc. were developed.The results of the tests showed that the meter developed had a measurement precision better than ±0.1ppm 10B in a range of 0-30ppm 10B.

Locking bandwidth and FM noise properties of mutually optical injection-locked semiconductor lasers are described, taking into account an optical delay time between lasers. By introducing a figure of merit of optical injection specifying unilaterality of the optical injection, optical injection-locking systems with an arbitrary inverse optical injection from a slave laser to a master laser can be described adequately. It is found from the analysis that for a short delay time, the locking bandwidth and the FM noise depend on both the round-trip phase angle and the figure of merit of optical injection. In the case of a long delay time, the FM noise and the spectral linewidth are reduced significantly with increasing locking bandwidth. Finally, an undulation similar to that in the external cavity semiconductor laser appears in the FM noise spectrum. The experimental results obtained by using semiconductor lasers emitting at 0.83 μm agree well with the analytical results.

We developed an orange fiber laser as the source for photocoagulation in ophthalmic applications. While the beam quality (M2=1.2) is excellent in comparison with the existing solid state laser (M2=7~8), there is the unfortunate necessity of an additional optical system to make the focusing beam uniform after transmission into the 50μm core diameter multimode fiber used in the existing photocoagulator. The purpose of this paper is to obtain a high luminance spot while maintaining the uniformity of the beam. We used 4.7μm Mode field diameter, single mode fiber (SMF) to focus the laser beam emitted from the developed 580nm orange fiber laser source. A coupling efficiency of 70% was obtained at the input power of 500 mW. Moreover, the beam quality of M2=1.27 was achieved after fiber coupling. No additional optical system was necessary to make the beam uniform owing to the SMF characteristics. As a result, the beam diameter at the irradiation point became 12.2μm, and the power density was calculated to be about 25 times higher than that of the existing photocoagulator. Significantly high luminance beams were obtained in the method described above. If the laser spot can be focused near the diffraction limit using adaptive optics in the future, it can be used in new operative procedures such as microsurgery in the macular region. When this method is used in photocoagulation, improvement in the quality of vision of patients is expected due to minimizing any damage to the retina. The effects of high luminance laser irradiation on pseudobiological tissue will be examined in a future paper.

Recent progress in quasi-phase-matched crystal quartz will be reported. Fine period twinning by mechanical stress application achieved a 12 um twin structure. Milliwatt-level second harmonic generation was demonstrated at 266 nm by 2nd-order QPM.

We demonstrate that one can seize and translate voids formed by IR femtosecond laser pulses inside silica glass and can also cause two voids to merge into one. We also present clear evidence of a void and its surrounding region by showing scanning electron microscope images of cleaved voids, which we produced by cleaving through the glass along a plane that included a thin laser-ablated line on the surface of the glass and the voids formed inside.

We report a case on hemodialysis with liver metastases from anorectal malignant melanoma treated by dacarbazine (DTIC). A 61-year-old man presented with anal bleeding. An elastic soft mass was palpated in the anal canal, and a biopsy specimen was diagnosed as anorectal malignant melanoma histologically. After introducing hemodialysis for the chronic renal failure, abdominoperineal resection was performed. Two and a half years after surgery, computed tomography showed multiple liver metastases. We chose chemotherapy consisting of DTIC 100 mg for five consecutive days every 4 weeks in addition to hemodialysis (3 times a week). After three cycles of chemotherapy, liver metastases were stable, but new lung metastases were found. After 12 cycles of chemotherapy, liver metastases became stable, but lung metastases were progressive. Subsequently, the patient died of respiratory failure 4 years after surgery, 1 year and 7 months after the diagnosis of multiple liver metastases. No severe toxicity was observed during this period. We conclude that administration of DTIC undergoing hemodialysis for malignant melanoma with renal failure seems to be useful without severe adverse events.

We investigated the clinical efficacy and safety of S-1 retrospectively for the treatment of 32 patients with advanced gastric cancer after reduction surgery (gastrectomy). S-1 was administered orally twice daily, at a standard dose of 80 mg/m(2) per day for 28 days, followed by a 14-day rest. There were 21 patients having only a single residual metastatic site and 11 with two or more metastatic sites. Major residual metastatic sites were peritoneum in 25 patients, lymph nodes in 7, liver in 4 and lung in 2. The response rate by target organ was 28.6% for lymph node metastasis, and 0% for liver and lung metastasis. Peritoneal metastasis was not considered measurable site. The median survival time (MST) after S-1 administration was 573 days (95% confidence interval, 439 to 707 days). The 1-, 2- and 3-year survival rates were 62.3%, 40.3% and 28.2%, respectively. Of the 32 patients, 14 received S-1 for more than a year, and the MST in these patients was 897 days (95% confidence interval, 255 to 1,539 days). The incidence of adverse events was 90.6%, but the incidence of grade 3 or 4 was 12.5%. Long-term administration of S-1 may serve to prolong the survival period of patients with gastric cancer after reduction surgery, particularly in peritoneal metastasis.

A series of mononuclear RU III complexes [RuCl 2 (L)] + , where L is tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (TPA) or one of four TPA derivatives as tetradentate ligand, were prepared and characterized by spectroscopic methods, X-ray crystallography, and electrochemical measurements. The geometry of a Ru lll complex having a non-threefold-symmetric TPA ligand bearing one dimethylnicotinamide moiety was determined to show that the nicotine moiety resides trans to a pyridine group, but not to the chlorido ligand. The substituents of the TPA ligands were shown to regulate the redox potential of the ruthenium center, as indicated by a linear Hammett plot in the range of 200 mV for Ru lll /RU lV couples with a relatively large p value (+ 0.150). These complexes act as effective catalysts for alkane functionalization in acetonitrile with m-chloroperbenzoic acid (mCPBA) as terminal oxidant at room temperature. They exhibited fairly good reactivity for oxidation of cyclohexane (C-H bond energy 94 kcalmol -1 ), and the reactivity can be altered significantly by the electronic effects of substituents on TPA ligands in terms of initial rates and turnover numbers. Catalytic oxygenation of cyclohexane by a Ru lll complex with 16 O-mCPBA in the presence of H 2 18 O gave 16 O-labeled cyclohexanol with 100% inclusion of the 18 O atom from the water molecule. Resonance Raman spectra under catalytic conditions without the substrate indicate formation of a RU IV =O intermediate with lower bonding energy. Kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) in the oxidation of cyclohexane suggest that hydrogen abstraction is the rate-determining step and the KIE values depend on the substituents of the TPA ligands. Thus, the reaction mechanism of catalytic cyclohexane oxygenation depends on the electronic effects of the ligands.

The Japanese Gastric Cancer Association Registration Committee reported the treatment results and causes of death of patients with primary gastric cancer treated in 1991 at the leading hospitals in Japan. Data of 8851 patients with primary gastric cancer were collected from 113 hospitals, and data of 7935 patients with gastric resection were finally analyzed. The lost-to-follow-up rate was 6.9%; the direct death rate was 1.0%. The cumulative 5-year survival rate (5YSR) of all the patients was 68.2%; 89.9% for Stage I, 69.1% for Stage II, 43.5% for Stage III, and 9.9% for Stage IV. Characteristic findings of the analyzed data were (1) high proportion of early-stage cancer, (2) high resection rate, (3) low mortality rate, (4) low incidence of upper-third cancer, (5) poor treatment results in cases with scirrhous cancer, infiltrating growth, and marked lymphatic or venous invasion, and (6) predominance of systematic (D2) and extended lymphadenectomies possibly resulting in reducing local recurrence and improving survivals.

金沢大学工学部, We propose a novel method to extend the measurement range of FMCW reflectometry. In this method, an optical loop with a frequency shifter (working frequency fFS Hz) is incorporated in the reference arm of the reflectometry. As a result, the interference signal corresponding to the reference beam that circulates N rounds in the loop appears around (N × fFS) Hz, which means that the signals from different measurement ranges can be detected in different frequency domains. Therefore, it is possible to extend the measurement range. In the experiment, the measurement range is extended from 15 m to 48 m.

A Ru(II) complex with a hydrophobic cavity formed from two 1-naphthoylamide groups was prepared. Its reactions with beta-diketones gave beta-diketonato complexes in which hydrophobic pi-pi or CH/pi interactions were confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. In the case of the asymmetric beta-diketone benzoylacetone, an isomer with a CH/pi interaction was afforded as the sole product owing to thermodynamic control. The reaction was found to involve a novel intramolecular rearrangement from the phenyl-included isomer to the methyl-included one without rupture of Ru-beta-diketonato coordination bonds (activation energy 52 kJ mol(-1)). This indicates that CH/pi interactions can be more favored thermodynamically than pi-pi interactions in a suitable hydrophobic environment.

A new genus of the crangonid shrimps, Syncrangon, is proposed for Crangon angusticauda De Haan, 1849 and C. (Sclerocrangon) angusticauda var. dentata Balss, 1914, both from East Asian waters. The new genus is readily distinguished from all known genera of the Crangonidae by the flattened middorsal carina and the deep groove on each lateral side of the middorsal carina on the third to sixth abdominal somites. Syncrangon angusticauda new combination has previously been assigned to the genus Metacrangon, while S. dentata new combination has not been reported since the original description. These two species are easily distinguished from each other by many characters, especially the rostral and abdominal features. They are redescribed and illustrated in detail.

We report a case of advanced gastric cancer resected after successful treatment with the novel oral anticancer drug TS-1. The patient was a 52-year-old male. Gastrointestinal fiberscopy showed advanced gastric cancer. Examinations by computed tomography revealed gastric cancer invasion of the pancreas and swollen para-aortic lymph nodes. This patient was treated by preoperative chemotherapy with oral administration of TS-1 (120 mg per day). After 3 courses of treatment of TS-1, the primary lesion and swollen lymph nodes were remarkably reduced. This chemotherapy enabled total gastrectomy in curative resection. The pathological effectiveness of chemotherapy was Grade 1b in the primary lesion and Grade 2 or 3 in the lymph nodes. The patient sustained few side effects. This preoperative chemotherapy regimen seems to be an effective and promising therapy for patients with advanced gastric cancer.

Rhythmical contractions accompanied by an increase in cytosolic Ca2+ concentrations were produced in ring preparations of endothelium-denuded pulmonary arteries from monocrotaline-treated rats, but not in those from vehicle-treated rats, 2-3 h after a resting tension of 15 mN (150-180% of the initial wall length of the artery) was applied. The rhythmical contractions were abolished by nicardipine and ryanodine. Cyclopiazonic acid reduced the relaxation phase of the rhythmical contractions, finally leading to a sustained contraction. Similarly, apamin caused a sustained contraction, whereas charybdotoxin increased the amplitude of the rhythmical contractions. Glibenclamide had no apparent effects on them. Indomethacin and the prostaglandin H2/thromboxane A2 receptor antagonist SQ29548 abolished the rhythmical contractions and reduced the tension, but the thromboxane synthase inhibitor ozagrel had no effect. These results suggest that optimal stretch induces rhythmical contractions in the pulmonary arteries of monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertensive rats, to which both Ca2+ influx through voltage-operated Ca2+ channels and Ca2+ release from the endoplasmic reticulum seem to contribute. It is also suggested that small-conductance Ca(2+)-activated K+ channels participate in the relaxation phase of rhythmical contractions. Furthermore, prostaglandin H2 released from nonendothelial cells is likely to play a pivotal role in the induction of rhythmical contractions.

We treated a patient with unresectable rectal cancer with multiple liver, pulmonary and lymph node metastases that responded remarkably to pharmacokinetic modulating chemotherapy (PMC). The patient was a 63-year-old male. Colonoscopy showed a type 3 advanced lower rectal cancer. Examinations by computed tomography and chest X-ray revealed unresectable rectal cancer invading the sacrum and bladder with multiple liver and pulmonary metastases and swollen para-aortic lymph nodes. The patient was treated by colostomy and postoperative PMC. UFT (400 mg/day) was orally administered daily and a continuous infusion of 5-FU (1,000 mg/24 h) was given once a week. After 10 courses of treatment with PMC, the primary lesion was remarkably reduced. This chemotherapy also produced partial responses in the pulmonary metastases and para-aortic lymph node swelling. The patient experienced few side effects and had good QOL in the terminal stage. This chemotherapy regimen appears to be an effective and promising therapy with few side effects, even for patients with unresectable advanced colorectal cancer.

Eighteen patients with far advanced and recurrent gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination were treated with a novel oral anticancer drug, TS-1, and assessed according to clinical effect. TS-1 was administered at a dose of 80-120 mg/day. One course consisted of consecutive administration of TS-1 for 28 days followed by 14 days rest. The 1- and 2-year survival rates and median survival time after administration of TS-1 were 63.2%, 23.7% and 437 days, respectively. Eight patients (44.4%) survived for 1 year or more. Adverse reactions consisted of reduction in hemoglobin level and hyperbilirubinemia at grades 3 and 4, which were observed in 3 patients and 1 patient, respectively. TS-1 is a promising drug for gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination.

Large-scale integration of compact photonic devices may be the key technology for the future information age. If optical-waveguide structures with small radius of curvatures are integrated inside a small glass tip along with active devices, a paradigm of microphotonics inside glass may become possible. We will review the fabrication techniques for the waveguides and photonic-band structures inside glass with the ultrashort laser pulses and present our recent results of fabrication experiments. The experimental studies include fabrication of birefringent waveguides, formation of small vacancies called voids, and drilling of a narrow but long hole from the rear side of a glass. We will show the birefringence properties of waveguides that are induced by the lienarly-polarized ultrashort laser pulses of approximately 100 fs duration. Birefringence of the waveguides depends on the polarization states of the fabrication beam. The experimental studies on the stabilities of a void during the fabrication process are also presented. We will show that the voids move during the fabrication process although the beam and sample are fixed. It will be shown that the void moves from pulse to pulse toward the upstream direction along the optical axis. We can currently drill a long hole of more than 200 microns with a diameter of several microns. We also present the results of numerical analysis of optical propagation through photonic structures that are based on the array of voids.

La0.7Ba0.3MnO3-(delta ) (LBMO) has been noticed as a potential candidate for an uncooled IR bolometer material, which has a large temperature dependent electrical resistance, as a potential candidate for an uncooled IR bolometer material. The LBMO thin films were deposited on SrTiO3 substrates by a laser ablation method. The films were characterized by an x-ray diffractometer. In the observation by an atomic force microscope, the size of the crystal grains and the number of grain boundaries on the films were extremely sensitive on the ambient oxygen pressure during the deposition. The grain size found to have an effect on both the magnitude of the resistivity and the temperature dependence of resistivity. The films deposited under the oxygen pressures of 53.3-80.0Pa, having the temperature dependence of resistivity like a bulk, and it showed a large temperature coefficient of resistance over 3 percent K near room temperature.© (2001) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Recently, we elucidated that the plasma extravasation involved both histamine and substance P, while the scratching behavior involved substance P, but not histamine. This study examined the effects of olopatadine hydrochloride (olopatadine), an antiallergic drug with histamine H1-antagonistic action, on the poly-L-arginine-induced responses. Olopatadine (1 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly inhibited both the plasma extravasation and the scratching behavior, suggesting that its inhibitory effects are mediated by the suppression of neuropeptidergic action as well as histaminic action. Olopatadine seems to be a novel-type drug for the treatment of dermatitis.
