Using the covariant constituent quark model previously developed by us we calculate the differential rate and the forward-backward asymmetries on the lepton and hadron side for the rare baryon decays Lambda_b -> Lambda l+ l- (l=e, mu, tau) and Lambda_b -> Lambda gamma. We use helicity methods to write down a three-fold joint angular decay distribution for the cascade decay Lambda_b -> Lambda (-> p pi-) + J_eff (-> l+ l-). Through appropriate angular integrations we obtain expressions for the rates, the lepton-side forward-backward (FB) asymmetry and the polarization of the daughter baryon Lambda leading to a hadron-side forward-backward asymmetry. We present numerical results on these observables using the covariant quark model and compare our results to the results of other calculations that have appeared in the literature., Comment: 36 pages, 26 figures

We extend the confined covariant constituent quark model that was previously developed by us for mesons to the baryon sector. In our numerical calculation we use the same values for the constituent quark masses and the infrared cutoff as have been previously used in the meson sector. In a first application we describe the static properties of the proton and neutron, and the $\Lambda$-hyperon (magnetic moments and charge radii) and the behavior of the nucleon form factors at low momentum transfers. We discuss in some detail the conservation of gauge invariance of the electromagnetic transition matrix elements in the presence of a nonlocal coupling of the baryons to the three constituent quark fields., Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures

We provide new values for the model parameters of the covariant constituent quark model (with built--in infrared confinement) in the meson sector by a fit to the leptonic decay constants and a number of electromagnetic decays. We then evaluate, in a parameter free way, the form factors of the $B(B_s)\to P(V)$-transitions in the full kinematical region of momentum transfer. As an application of our results we calculate the widths of the nonleptonic $B_s$-decays into $D_s^- D_s^+,$ $D_s^{\ast\,-} D_s^{+}+D_s^- D_s^{\ast\,+}$ and $D_s^{\ast\,-} D_s^{\ast\,+}$. These modes give the largest contribution to $\Delta\Gamma$ for the $B_s-\bar B_s$ system. We also treat the nonleptonic decay $B_{s}\to\Jpsi\phi$. Although this mode is color suppressed this decay has important implications for the search of possible CP-violating New Physics effects in $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures. We further explore the consequences of treating the X(3872) meson as a tetraquark bound state by analyzing its one-photon decay X => \gamma + J/psi in the framework of our approach developed in previous papers which incorporates quark confinement in an effective way. To introduce electromagnetism we gauge a nonlocal effective Lagrangian describing the interaction of the X(3872) meson with its four constituent quarks by using the P-exponential path-independent formalism. We calculate the matrix element of the transition X => \gamma+ J/psi and prove its gauge invariance. We evaluate the X=> \gamma + J/psi decay width and the longitudinal/transverse composition of the J/psi in this decay. For a reasonable value of the size parameter of the X(3872) meson we find consistency with the available experimental data. We also calculate the helicity and multipole amplitudes of the process, and describe how they can be obtained from the covariant transition amplitude by covariant projection., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures. Decay rates of unpolarized top quarks into longitudinally and transversally polarized W bosons are calculated to second order in the strong coupling constant alpha_s. Including the finite bottom quark mass and electroweak effects, the Standard Model predictions for the W boson helicity fractions are F_L=0.687(5), F_+=0.0017(1), and F_-=0.311(5)., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure

We study flavor-conserving radiative decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit. We explore the consequences of treating the X(3872) meson as a tetraquark bound state. As dynamical framework we employ a relativistic constituent quark model which includes infrared confinement in an effective way. We calculate the decay widths of the observed channels X-> Jpsi+2\pi (3\pi) and X-> \bar D0+D0+\pi0 via the intermediate off--shell states X-> Jpsi+\rho(\omega) and X-> \bar D + D*. For reasonable values of the size parameter of the X(3872) we find consistency with the available experimental data. We introduce a new class of problems lying halfway between questions about graph capacity and intersection. We say that two binary sequences x and y of the same length have a skewincidence if there is a coordinate i for which x_i=y_{i+1}=1 or vice versa. We give rather sharp bounds on the maximum number of binary sequences of length n any pair of which has a skewincidence.

Linear polarized soft-x ray absorption (XAS) and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) experiments have been performed on CeMIn5 with M = Rh, Ir, and Co to determine the crystal-field scheme and characteristic Kondo temperatures T* for the hybridization between 4f and conduction electrons. The ground state wave functions are determined from the polarization dependent soft-XAS data at the cerium M4,5 edge and the crystal-field splittings from INS. The characteristic temperature T* has been determined from the line widths of the neutron scattering data. We find that the quasielastic line widths of the superconducting compounds CeCoIn5 and CeIrIn5 are comparable with the low energy crystal-field splitting.

We refine the relativistic constituent quark model developed in our previous papers to include the confinement of quarks. It is done, first, by introducing the scale integration in the space of alpha-parameters, and, second, by cutting this scale integration on the upper limit which corresponds to an infrared cutoff. In this manner one removes all possible thresholds presented in the initial quark diagram. The cutoff parameter is taken to be the same for all physical processes. We adjust other model parameters by fitting the calculated quantities of the basic physical processes to available experimental data. As an application, we calculate the electromagnetic form factors of the pion and the transition form factors of the omega and eta Dalitz decays., Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. A ratchet effect (the rectification of an ac injected current) which is purely magnetic in origin has been observed in a superconducting-magnetic nanostructure hybrid. The hybrid consists of a superconducting Nb film in contact with an array of nanoscale magnetic triangles, circular rings or elliptical rings. The arrays were placed into well-defined remanent magnetic states by application of different magnetic field cycles. The stray fields from these remanent states provide a magnetic landscape which influences the motion of superconducting vortices. We examined both randomly varying landscapes from demagnetized samples, and ordered landscapes from samples at remanence after saturation in which the magnetic rings form parallel onion states containing two domain walls. The ratchet effect is absent if the rings are in the demagnetized state or if the vortices propagate parallel to the magnetic reflection symmetry axis (perpendicular to the magnetic domain walls) in the ordered onion state. On the other hand, when the vortices move perpendicular to the magnetic reflection symmetry axis in the ordered onion state (parallel to the domain walls) a clear ratchet effect is observed. This behavior differs qualitatively from that observed in samples containing arrays of triangular Ni nanostructures, which show a ratchet of structural origin., Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures and 1 table

We study the semileptonic decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. We perform a detailed analysis of SU(3) breaking corrections to the hyperon semileptonic decay form factors. We extend several results of the third author and C. Malvenuto on graph-different permutations to the case of directed graphs and introduce new open problems. We report a comprehensive set of results for B-meson heavy-to-light transition form factors calculated using a truncation of, and expression for, the transition amplitudes in which all elements are motivated by the study of Dyson-Schwinger equations in QCD. In this relativistic approach, which realises confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking, all physical values of momentum transfer in the transition form factors are simultaneously accessible. Using our relativistic constituent quark model we present results on the exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic decays of the Bc-meson. The nonleptonic decays are studied in the framework of the factorization approximation. We calculate the one-loop squared contributions to the next-to-next-to-leading order ${\cal O}(\alpha^2\alpha_s^2)$ radiative QCD corrections for the production of heavy quark pairs in the collisions of unpolarized on--shell photons. In particular, we present analytical results for the squared matrix elements that correspond to the product of the one--loop amplitudes. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in the dimensional regularization scheme. The magnetic moments of ground state single, double and triple heavy baryons containing charm or bottom quarks are calculated in a relativistic three-quark model, which, in the heavy quark limit, is consistent with Heavy Quark Effective Theory and Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. We study exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic decays of the Bc-meson within a relativistic constituent quark model previously developed by us. For the nonleptonic decays we use the factorizing approximation. We update our model parameters by using new experimental data for the mass and the lifetime of the Bc meson and the leptonic decay constants of the D-meson. We calculate the branching ratios for a large set of exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic decays of the $B_c$ meson and compare our results with the results of other studies. As a guide for further experimental exploration we provide explicit formulas for the full angular decay distributions in the cascade decays Bc^- => J/psi(=> l^+l^-) + rho^-(=> pi^- pi^0) and Bc^- => J/psi(=> l^+l^-) + W^-(off-shell)(=> l^- + nubar)., Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures

The azimuthal correlation between the planes formed by the vectors $(\vec{p}_\ell,\vec{p}_{X_b})$ and $(\vec{p}_\ell,\vec{P}_t)$ in the semileptonic rest frame decay of a polarized top quark $t(\uparrow) \to X_b + l^+ + \nu_\ell$ belongs to a class of polarization observables involving the top quark which vanish at the Born term level in the standard model. We use the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model to study the semileptonic transitions of the Bc meson into CCbar charmonium states where CCbar = etaC (1S0), J/psi (3S1), chiC0 (3P0), chiC1 (3P1), hc (1P1), chiC2 (3P2), psi (3D2). We compute the q^2-dependence of all relevant form factors and give predictions for their semileptonic Bc decay modes including also their tau-modes. We derive a formula for the polar angle distribution of the charged lepton in the (l nu) c.m. frame and compute the partial helicity rates that multiply the angular factors in the decay distribution. For the discovery channel [B_c => J/psi (=> mu+ mu-) l nu] we compute the transverse/longitudinal composition of the J/psi which can be determined by an angular analysis of the decay J/psi => mu+ mu-. We use dimensional regularization to calculate the ${\cal O}(\ep^2)$ expansion of all scalar one-loop one-, two-, three- and four-point integrals that are needed in the calculation of hadronic heavy quark production. The Laurent series up to ${\cal O}(\ep^2)$ is needed as input to that part of the NNLO corrections to heavy flavor production at hadron colliders where the one-loop integrals appear in the loop-by-loop contributions. The four-point integrals are the most complicated. We calculate the amplitudes and the cross sections of the charm dissociation processes J/\psi \pi => D \bar D, D* \bar D, D \bar D*, D* \bar D* within a relativistic constituent quark model. We consistently account for the contributions coming from both the box and triangle diagrams that contribute to the dissociation processes. The cross section is dominated by the D* \bar D and D* \bar D* channels. When summing up the four channels we find a maximum total cross section of about 2.3 mb at sqrt(s) \approx 4.1 GeV. We present a calculation of the B0 - anti-B0 mixing matrix element in the framework of QCD sum rules for three-point functions. We compute alpha_s corrections to a three-point function at the three-loop level in QCD perturbation theory, which allows one to extract the matrix element with next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy. This calculation is imperative for a consistent evaluation of experimentally-measured mixing parameters since the coefficient functions of the effective Hamiltonian for B0 - anti-B0 mixing are known at NLO. We find that radiative corrections violate factorization at NLO; this violation is under full control and amounts to 10%., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, LaTeX2e

In the wake of exploring CP-violation in the decays of B and Bc mesons, we perform the straightforward calculation of their nonleptonic decay rates within a relativistic quark model. We confirm that the decays Bc->Ds antiD0 and Bc->Ds D0 are well suited to extract the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle \gamma through the amplitude relations because their decay widths are the same order of magnitude. In the b-c sector the decays B->D K and Bc->DD lead to squashed triangles which are therefore not so useful to determine the angle experimentally. We also determine the rates for other nonleptonic Bc-decays and compare our results with the results of other studies., Comment: 13 pages, reference added, to appear in PLB

We calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) $\alpha_s$-corrections to the contributions of the condensates $<\alpha G^2>$ and $<\bar qq>^2$ in the current-current correlator of the hybrid current $g\barq(x)\gamma_{\nu}iF_{\mu\nu}^aT^aq(x)$ using the external field method in Feynman gauge. After incorporating these NLO contributions into the Laplace sum-rules, the mass of the $J^{PC}$=$1^{-+}$ light hybrid meson is recalculated using the QCD sum rule approach. We find that the sum rules exhibit enhanced stability when the NLO $\alpha_s$-corrections are included in the sum rule analysis, resulting in a $1^{-+}$ light hybrid meson mass of approximately 1.6 GeV., Comment: revtex4, 10 pages, 7 eps figures embedded in manuscript

The B --> pi ell nu weak decay form factors are calculated via light-cone sum rules within the framework of the heavy quark effective theory. We calculate the leading and the relevant sub-leading universal form factors. Our results are matched to the known soft pion limit. We also address the large pion energy limit of our sum rule results. We present a complete set of one-loop matrix elements relevant for the hadroproduction of heavy quarks in next-to-leading order employing dimensional regularization to isolate ultraviolet and soft divergences. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in detail. These one-loop matrix elements can also be used as input in the determination of the corresponding next-to-leading order cross sections for heavy flavor photoproduction and in photon-photon reactions, as well as for any of the relevant crossed processes. We study the exclusive rare decay B -> K l(bar) l. We calculate the relevant form factors within a relativistic constituent quark model, for the first time without employing the impulse approximation. The calculated form factors are used to evaluate differential decay rates and polarization observables. We present results on the q2-dependence of a set of observables with and without long-distance contributions. A similar analysis is done for the exclusive rare decays B_c -> D (D*) l(bar) l with special emphasis on the cascade decay B_c -> D* (-> D pi) l(bar) l. We derive a four-fold angular decay distribution for this process in terms of helicity amplitudes including lepton mass effects. The four-fold angular decay distribution allows to define a number of physical observables which are amenable to measurement. We study the semileptonic decays of the lowest lying double heavy baryons using the relativistic three-quark model. We do not employ a heavy quark mass expansion but keep the masses of the heavy quarks and baryons finite. We calculate all relevant form factors and decay rates., Comment: 13 pages, 1 figure

We study the semileptonic transitions B_c to \eta_c, J/\psi, D, D^*, B, B^*, B_s, B_s^* in the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model. We use experimental data on leptonic J/\psi decay, lattice and QCD sum rule results on leptonic B_c decay, and on radiative \eta_c transitions to adjust the quark model parameters. We compute all form factors of the above semileptonic B_c-transitions and give predictions for various semileptonic B_c decay modes including their \tau-modes when they are kinematically accessible. The implications of heavy quark symmetry for the semileptonic decays are discussed and are shown to be manifest in our explicit relativistic quark model calculation. We present theoretical evidence that the exclusive/inclusive ratio of semileptonic $\Lambda_b$-decays exceeds that of semileptonic B-decays where the experimental exclusive/inclusive ratio amounts to about 66%. We start from the observation that the spectator quark model provides a lower bound on the leading order Isgur-Wise function of the $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c$ transition in terms of the corresponding $B \to D,D^*$ mesonic Isgur-Wise function. Using experimental data for the $B \to D,D^*$ mesonic Isgur-Wise functions this bound is established. Applying a Bethe-Salpeter model including spectator quark interactions and a QCD sum rule estimate of the $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c$ transition form factor which satisfy the spectator quark model bound we predict the exclusive/inclusive ratio of semileptonic $\Lambda_b$ decay rates to lie in a range between 0.81 and 0.92. We also provide an upper bound on the baryonic Isgur-Wise function which is determined from the requirement that the exclusive rate should not exceed the inclusive rate., Comment: RevTeX, 18 pages, 4 figures

We test the sensitivity of bottom baryon observables with regard to the choice of the interpolating three-quark currents within the relativistic three-quark model. We have found that the semileptonic decay rates are clearly affected by the choice of currents, whereas the asymmetry parameters show only a very weak dependence on the choice of current., Comment: revtex, 9 pages

Semileptonic decays of Lambda_b and Lambda_c baryons are studied within the Relativistic Three-Quark Model using finite heavy quark mass values. Employing the same parameters as have been used previously for the description of exclusive decays of heavy baryons in the heavy quark limit we calculate the six form factors of the process and the corresponding decay rates. We analyze strong one-pion and radiative one-photon decays of heavy flavored baryons within a relativistic three-quark model. Employing the same parameters as were used for the description of the semileptonic decays of heavy baryons, we calculate the couplings of one-pion and one-photon transitions of both ground and excited heavy baryon states.
