Background: With the recent advances in medicine, patients with congenital heart disease are surviving to adulthood. Adults with congenital heart disease must practice self-management to recognize the symptoms of complications and the appropriate response. Aims: The purpose of this study was to develop a self-management efficacy promotion program for adults with congenital heart disease and to test the effects of the developed program on disease-related knowledge, self-management implementation and health-related quality of life. Methods: A non-equivalent, control group, pre–post test design was used. The intervention group received the self-management efficacy promotion program for six weeks. The control group received only the usual care. Results: The study results showed that disease-related knowledge (F=91.095, p<0.001) was significantly different between the two groups, as was the self-management performance (F=11.846, p<0.001). However, health-related quality of life (generic core scale: F=0.023, p=0.881, cardiac module scale: F=0.174, p=0.678) was not significantly different between groups. Conclusion: The self-management efficacy promotion program for adults with congenital heart disease had a significant effect on disease-related knowledge and self-management implementation, but did not affect health-related quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the delirium prevention interventions recommended by the Delirium Prevention Guidelines for Elderly Stroke Patients (DPGESP). The DPGESP comprises nine dimensions with 28 interventions, including risk factor assessment, orientation disorder prevention, sleeping pattern maintenance, sensory interventions, constipation, dehydration, hypoxia and infection prevention, pain management, and appropriate nutrition maintenance. This quasi-experimental study used a nonequivalent control group and a pretest–posttest design. The experimental and control groups each included 54 patients, and the participants were elderly patients who were admitted to the stroke unit. The study outcomes were the delirium incidence and severity, stroke impact, and length of hospitalization. Posttest values for delirium incidence, severity, stroke impact, and length of hospitalization were significantly improved in the experimental group. Implementation of the DPGESP had beneficial effects on the delirium incidence and severity, stroke impact, and length of hospitalization among elderly patients admitted to a stroke unit. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop integrated evaluation indicators of home care services in the hope that the increasing group of long-term home care patients could receive quality care services. Methods: The development involves a methodological study on a development phase and a verification phase. The main survey at a verification stage was conducted by the staffs at 146 institutions who agreed to participate on this study. Results: The evaluation index for the integrated home visit care consisted of five categories and 57 indicators including Managing Institution (12), Environment and Safety (3), Right and Responsibility (7), Process of Care (31) and Results of Care (4). The criterion-related validity was verified in regard to the participation in the 2010 evaluation of long-term home-care institutions by the National Health Insurance Corporation. Conclusion: The evaluation index of the integrated home visiting care developed in this study is considered suitable to utilize as evaluating indicators in managing and evaluating the way of how institutions integrate and provide home visit care services as well as home nursing care services. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for falls among community-dwelling older adults. The study used a cross-sectional descriptive design. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect data from 658 community-dwelling older adults and were analyzed using logistic and zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression. Perceived health status was a significant factor in the count model, and fall efficacy emerged as a significant predictor in the logistic models. The findings suggest that fall efficacy is important for predicting not only faller and nonfaller status but also fall counts in older adults who may or may not have experienced a previous fall. The fall predictors identified in this study—perceived health status and fall efficacy—indicate the need for fall-prevention programs tailored to address both the physical and psychological issues unique to older adults. Purpose: This study aimed to develop and test the effect of the Korean Function‐Focused Care Programme (K‐FFCP) on cognition and physical and psychological status in long‐term care facilities' (LTCs) residents. Design: A quasi‐experimental repeated‐measures design was used. Methods: The K‐FFCP was developed to maintain and maximise functions of older people in LTCs. After implementing the K‐FFCP for six weeks, differences in the cognitive status, activities of daily living (ADL) performance, physical capability, grip strength, fear of falling, depression and anxiety status of the two groups were examined using repeated‐measures analysis of variance. Patient outcomes were evaluated at baseline and at 6 and 12 weeks after the intervention. Results: In the experimental group, a significant group–time interaction effect was reported for ADL performance and depression. Conclusion: The current findings provided evidence of its feasibility and indicated significant improvement in older people's functions using the K‐FFCP. Although this study is a pilot test, these results may confirm the importance of the K‐FFCP for the maintenance of ADL performance in older people in LTCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This scoping review was designed to identify gaps in knowledge and guide future directions for clinical nursing practices and research on oral hygiene care for endotracheally intubated patients in Korean intensive care units. Methods: We conducted a scoping review using the methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley. PubMed, CINAHL, RISS, Science On, and DBpia databases were searched. Two reviewers independently selected the studies and extracted data. A total of 445 studies were identified, of which 17 were included in the final analysis. Results: No research has been conducted from 2021 to the present. A total of 12 instruments were utilized in 13 studies to assess the effectiveness of oral hygiene care. All studies investigating the effectiveness of oral hygiene care have consistently documented that chlorhexidine has the most significant effect. The frequency and time of oral hygiene care were each examined in one study. Conclusion: A research study is necessary to develop a measurement tool for assessing the effectiveness of oral hygiene care suitable for endotracheal intubated patients in intensive care units. Interventional studies should be conducted to determine the effects of chlorhexidine and the appropriate frequency and time of oral hygiene care. Thereafter, revision of domestic evidence-based clinical practice guidelines by integrating these results will be necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While some studies have found that older adults' use of information and communications technology (ICT) contributes to their positive emotions, others have not. According to previous research, basic psychological needs satisfaction may help us explore the relationships between older adults' ICT usage and their emotional experience. This study aimed to investigate the moderation effect of older adults' basic psychological needs satisfaction on the relationship between ICT usage and emotional experience using the experience sampling method via the communication application, Line. At the first phase of the study, we surveyed each participant's age, gender and satisfaction with basic psychological needs, and afterward, each participant needed to complete their current situation each day throughout the 10-day period. A total of 788 daily experiences of 32 participants (Mage = 63.13; SDage = 5.97, ranging from 52 to 75; 81% women) were collected, and hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) was conducted. Results revealed that ICT usage generally enhanced older adults' positive emotional experience. Those with satisfied competence needs had stable and positive emotional experiences with or without using ICT, while those without could further promote their positive emotional experience by using ICT. Those with satisfied relatedness needs had more positive emotional experiences when using ICT, while those without had similar emotional experiences with or without ICT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of the study was to identify dementia knowledge, attitude, and caregiving appraisal among caregivers of older adults with dementia using a dementia care center. Methods: The participants were 113 caregivers of older adults with dementia using a dementia care center. The data were collected using the questionnaires for dementia knowledge, attitude, and caregiving appraisal. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression test using the SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results: Positive correlations were revealed between dementia knowledge and attitude (r=.36, p<.001). Dementia attitude positively correlated with caregiving satisfaction (r=.40, p<.001) and caregiving mastery (r=.31, p<.001). Dementia attitude negatively correlated with caregiving burden (r=-.47, p<.001), caregiving demand (r=-.35, p<.001), and caregiving impact (r=-.40, p<.001). The factors influencing caregiving appraisal were dementia attitude (negative component: β=-.48, p<.001, positive components: β=.41, p<.001, neutral components: β=-.42, p<.001) and caregiving duration (negative component: β=-.28, p=.004, positive components: β=.26, p=.010). These factors contributed negative components (25.2%), positive components (18.4%), and neutral components (25.5%) of the variance in caregiving appraisal. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest it is necessary to develop nursing interventions for caregivers of older adults with dementia to improve dementia attitude. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was conducted to test the impact of simulation-based education program for emergency airway management on self-efficacy and clinical performance ability. Methods: A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pre-post test design was used. A total of 60 nurses, 30 nurses assigned to the simulation-based education group and 30 nurses to a traditional lecture group. The treatment group received a lecture, small group workshop and team simulation whereas the comparison group received lectures. Results: The participants in the simulation-based education group reported significantly higher self-efficacy of emergency airway management compared to participants in the lecture only group (t=5.985, p<.001). The simulation-based education group showed significantly higher clinical performance ability of emergency airway management compared with the lecture group (t=5.532, p<.001). Conclusion: Simulation-based education was verified to be an effective teaching method to improve the self-efficacy, clinical performance skills of nurses in the learning of emergency airway management.
