Summary: Induction therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) has changed with the approval of a number of new agents. Clinical guidelines can struggle to keep pace with an evolving treatment and evidence landscape and therefore identifying the most appropriate front‐line treatment is challenging for clinicians. Here, we combined drug eligibility criteria and genetic risk stratification into a digital format, allowing the full range of possible treatment eligibility scenarios to be defined. Using exemplar cases representing each of the 22 identified scenarios, we sought to generate consensus on treatment choice from a panel of nine aUK AML experts. We then analysed >2500 real‐world cases using the same algorithm, confirming the existence of 21/22 of these scenarios and demonstrating that our novel approach could generate a consensus AML induction treatment in 98% of cases. Our approach, driven by the use of decision trees, is an efficient way to develop consensus guidance rapidly and could be applied to other disease areas. It has the potential to be updated frequently to capture changes in eligibility criteria, novel therapies and emerging trial data. Trephine section histology is especially helpful for the diagnosis of hypocellular MDS and MDS/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) overlap syndromes.9 Patients with MDS/MPN overlap including CMML are now considered a distinct entity by the WHO when features of both MDS and MPN are present. Patients and family members should ideally be offered genetic counselling before genetic screening if there is a high clinical suspicion.42 Recommendations Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) should be suspected in patients with otherwise unexplained cytopenias(s) or macrocytosis (1A). In the context of persistent and otherwise unexplained cytopenias, a WHO-defined diagnosis of MDS requires either (i) morphological dysplasia (involving >=10% of bone marrow cells in >=1 lineage); (ii) increased myeloblasts (>=5%, but <20%); or (iii) evidence of clonality with a typical MDS-associated cytogenetic abnormality.2,4 Dysplasia is not restricted to MDS patients and can occur following a toxic insult, in reactive conditions or secondary to haematinic deficiencies. Abstract Background In light of the emphasis on drug abuse, this study explored the relative prevalence of substance use disorders among United Kingdom (UK) prison inmates in the context of findings from a general inmate population in the United States (US). The lead author of the report conducted a structured diagnostic interview with 155 new admissions to one of two prisons in the UK using the CAAPE (Comprehensive Addiction And Psychological Evaluation), a structured diagnostic interview, to ensure consistent assessments. The US sample consisted of 6,881 male inmates in a state prison system evaluated with an automated version of the SUDDS-IV (Substance Use Disorder Diagnostic Schedule-IV) interview. Results Alcohol dependence emerged as the most prevalent substance use disorder in both UK prisons and in the US sample. Relative frequencies of abuse and dependence for alcohol and other drugs revealed that dependence on a given substance was more prevalent than abuse ad defined by the current diagnostic criteria. Conclusion Despite the emphasis on drugs in correctional populations, alcohol dependence appears to be the most prominent substance use disorder among the incarcerated in both the US and UK and must be considered in developing treatment programs and policy priorities.

A study investigated the impact of haptic augmentation of a science inquiry program on students learning about viruses and nanoscale science combined with computer visualizations and comparing the influences of a PHANToM (a sophisticated haptic desktop device), a Sidewinder (a haptic gaming joystick), and a mouse (no haptic feedback). Results showed that the addition of haptic feedback from the haptic gaming joystick and the PHANToM provided a more immersive learning environment.
