52. Application of three Ln(Ⅲ)-coordination polymers in fields of luminescence, antibacteria and detection of Fe3+and 4-nitrophenol

Abstract

Three lanthanide-based coordination polymers (Ln-CPs) with layered structure, {[La2(L)3(DMF) (H2O)3]·H2O}n(1), {[Eu2(L)3(DMF)2(H2O)]·(H2O)}n(2) {[Tb2(L)3(DMF)2(H2O)]·H2O}n(3) were successfully synthesized from H2L(N,N′-bis(4-carbozylbenzyl)aniline). Remarkably, compound 3has extremely high sensitivity to 4-nitrophenol. When the concentration of 4-nitrophenol reaches 5.98 × 10−3 mmol/L, the fluorescence intensity of compound 3is quenched by 59%. The calculated KSVis 7.56 × 104and limit of detection (LOD) is 4.73 μg/L. 3exhibits a highly sensitive detection towards Fe3+and compound 2shows outstanding antibacterial effects on Staphylococcus aureus, respectively. The white light emission was also investigated by changing the mixing ratio of LaNO3, EuNO3and TbNO3during the preparation of coordination polymers.

86. Methodology to enable high-throughput imaging of Arabidopsis seedlings on cover glass-bottom multiwell plates.

Abstract

High-throughput imaging enables rapid collection of large datasets and is used widely in many systems. However, this is not often used in plant-based systems due to issues related to the need to mount tissues and autofluorescence of plant metabolites. We therefore developed methodology enabling high-throughput imaging of Arabidopsis roots. In this system, growth media supplemented with India Ink (to block autofluorescence from cotyledons) is poured directly into multi-well coverglass-bottom plates and seedlings grown such that the roots grow down with the gravity vector and along the coverglass, effectively mounting themselves for imaging. Abstract

Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men and is the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality in developed countries. Recent work has revealed the significance of CIP-interacting zinc finger protein 1 (CIZ1) in cancer cell biology, but its roles in prostatic carcinoma are unknown. Our study compared CIZ1 gene expression in banked prostatic carcinomas versus matched paraneoplastic tissues and in tumor cell lines of varying origin. This study revealed that the expression of CIZ1 was higher in high-grade prostate cancer than in low-grade prostate cancer and normal tissues. Among the tumor cell lines, PC-3 exhibited the highest levels of CIZ1 expression. CIZ1 gene silencing in PC-3 cells reduced cell proliferation and colony formation, induced cell cycle arrest in G1, inhibited tumor formation in nude mice, and suppressed the expression of genes related to prostate carcinoma. These results suggest that CIZ1 may play an important role in the progression of human prostate carcinoma and us which may be used as a therapeutic target in prostate cancer.
