Abstract Objectives This study aims to evaluate and compare the surgical outcomes of endoscopic malleostapedotomy (EMS) and endoscopic incudostapedotomy (EIS). Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 36 consecutive ears in 33 patients who underwent stapes surgery using either EMS (EMS group) or EIS (EIS group). Operational practicability across surgical steps, postoperative hearing, operation time, switch of approach, and complications were compared between the two groups. Results The EMS and EIS groups comprised seven (19.4%) and 29 ears (80.6%), respectively. The EMS group exhibited a greater proportion of moderate practicability in anchoring site exposure (42.9%, three of seven) and in securing the prosthesis (100%, seven of seven) in comparison to the EIS group, which had 0% (0 out of 29) and 41.4% (12 out of 29), respectively. Postoperative hearing improvements were equivalent between the groups, with EMS achieving a mean air‐bone gap improvement of 28.8 dB and EIS of 23.2 dB. The ABG closure rates within 10 dB and 20 dB for the EMS group were 28.6% and 100%, respectively, and not significantly different from the EIS group (p = .103). However, the average surgical duration for EMS was extended by 77.4 min. The rate of complications was comparable between the groups (EMS 14.3%, EIS 10.3%, p = 1.000). Conclusion The findings indicate that while EMS requires a longer operation time because of decreased practicability in specific surgical steps, it provides comparable outcomes to EIS, underscoring the potential of endoscopic techniques to establish malleostapedotomy as a surgical option as it is with traditional incudostapedotomy. Level of Evidence 4.

Objectives. The aim of this study was to determine the most effective treatment approach by comparing the impacts of various otolith reduction techniques in patients with apogeotropic lateral semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (LC-BPPV). Methods. We performed a multicenter randomized prospective study from January to December 2015, involving 72 consecutive patients with apogeotropic LC-BPPV. The patients were divided into three treatment groups: therapeutic head-shaking (group A), the Gufoni-Appiani maneuver (group B), and the cupulolith repositioning maneuver (CuRM; group C). Each group underwent evaluation and treatment up to the fourth week. Treatment success was defined as the disappearance of positional vertigo and nystagmus. Results. This study included 72 patients (49 male and 23 female), with a mean (±standard deviation) age of 55.4±13.5 years. The mean duration of vertigo experienced prior to treatment was 3.9±4.4 days. The mean latency and duration of nystagmus were 2.7±3.0 seconds and 47.9±15.8 seconds, respectively. The overall treatment frequency was 2.0±0.9. The number of treatments differed significantly among the three groups (P0.05). However, CuRM was the only method with a 100% treatment success rate. Conclusion. While no clear difference was observed among the three treatments for LC-BPPV, CuRM was found to be superior to the other approaches in the long term.

Bougie or balloon dilation is a good short-term treatment for caustic esophageal strictures, although recurrence after dilation occurs in approximately 30% of these cases. Therefore, long-term treatment options are required in some cases, and endoscopic incisional therapy has been used for patients with an anastomotic stricture in the gastrointestinal tract. A 58-year-old woman presented with severe swallowing difficulty because of a caustic esophageal stricture, which was caused by accidental exposure to anhydrous acetic acid at infancy. She had undergone several previous bougie and balloon dilations but the stricture did not improve. We performed sequential treatment comprising incision with an insulated-tip knife, balloon dilation, and an oral steroid, which resulted in the patient's symptoms markedly improving. Thus, we report this case of an intractable caustic esophageal stricture, which was successfully treated using combined endoscopic sequential treatment.

In recent years, embedded systems such as various electronic devices equipped with a microprocessor, which acts as a brain of electronic devices, have been spreading due to the improvement of computational capability of system semiconductors and the generalization of large-capacity memory. However, as the requirements of the application using the embedded system increase, the number of the peripheral devices and the interfaces built in the embedded system increases. As a result, it takes much effort and time to develop the embedded system and verify the function. Therefore, in this paper, we propose and study a verification system that can efficiently test the interface to the embedded system.

Background/aims Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are frequently used to treat non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), but their effect is limited. It is not known whether a potential alternative, AlbisD, containing ranitidine hydrochloride, sucralfate hydrate, and tripotassium dicitrato bismuthate, is effective and safe in treating NERD. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of AlbisD compared with omperazole in patients with NERD. Methods This was a multicenter, randomized, open-label, parallel-group, non-inferiority comparative study. A total of 126 patients with NERD were randomly allocated to either AlbisD twice daily or omeprazole 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks from February 2016 to August 2016. The study patients had histories of heartburn or regurgitation of moderate severity (> score 2) and a frequency of at least 2 episodes per week, and had no mucosal breaks of the esophagus on endoscopy. The primary efficacy variable was complete cure of heartburn at week 4. Secondary efficacy variables evaluating symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux as well as safety profiles were compared in the 2 groups at week 2 and 4 after treatment. Results A total of 113 patients completed the study (57 and 56 in AlbisD and omeprazole groups, respectively). The proportion of patients with complete cure of heartburn at week 4 was not significantly different between the AlbisD and omeprazole groups (35.1% vs 32.1% respectively, P = 0.740). There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in the any secondary variables including proportions of days without heartburn or acid reflux over 4 weeks (including daytime and nighttime). Adverse events were similarly reported in the 2 groups (7 [12.3%] vs 6 [10.7%]), and there were no serious adverse events. Conclusions The efficacy and safety of AlibsD in treating NERD patients are not inferior to those of omeprazole. Therefore, AlbisD can be an alternative to PPIs for NERD.

Background and Aims Perforation is the adverse event of greatest concern during colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Accurate risk prediction of perforation may enable prevention strategies and selection of the most efficient therapeutic option. This study aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model for ESD-induced perforation. Methods A multicenter cross-sectional study was performed on 2046 patients who underwent colorectal ESD at 9 Korean ESD Study Group–affiliated hospitals. The enrolled patients were randomly divided into either a derivation set or a validation set. In the derivation set, a prediction score was constructed to assess the risk of perforation using preoperative and procedural-related predictors selected via logistic regression. Discrimination and calibration of the prediction model was assessed using the validation set. Results An ESD-induced perforation occurred in 135 patients (6.6%). In the derivation set, multivariate logistic regression identified endoscopist experience (≥50 ESDs: odds ratio [OR] = 0.59; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.35-1.00), tumor size (+1-cm increments: OR = 1.39; 95% CI, 1.19-1.62), colonic location (OR = 2.20; 95% CI, 1.24-3.89), and submucosal fibrosis (OR = 2.00; 95% CI, 1.04-3.87) as predictive factors (C-statistic = 0.678; 95% CI, 0.617-0.739). In the validation set, the model showed good discrimination (C-statistic = 0.675; 95% CI, 0.615-0.735) and calibration ( P = .635). When a simplified weighted scoring system based on the OR was used, risk of perforation ranged from 4.1% (95% CI, 2.8%-5.9%) in the low-risk group (score ≤4) to 11.6% (95% CI, 8.5%-15.6%) in the high-risk group (score >4). Conclusions This study developed and internally validated a score consisting of simple clinical factors to estimate the risk of colorectal ESD-induced perforation. This score can be used to identify patients at high risk before colorectal ESD.

Background/aims The endoscopic forceps biopsy of gastric lesion may provide inadequate specimens for a correct diagnosis of the entire lesion. Therefore, a histologic discrepancy may exist between specimens obtained by forceps biopsy and by endoscopic resection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the endoscopic characteristics of an underestimation in gastric carcinomas initially diagnosed as adenomas by forceps biopsy. Materials and methods We retrospectively reviewed 431 lesions diagnosed as gastric adenomas by forceps biopsy and resected by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) between January 2008 and December 2011. The endoscopic findings were reviewed for location, size, gross appearance, ulceration, and surface color. We compared these variables between the adenoma group and the carcinoma group, as defined by the post-resection pathological findings. Results The mean patient age was 65.63±9.30 years in the adenoma group and 64.75±10.30 years in the carcinoma group. The mean size of the lesion was 21.04±8.65 mm in the adenoma group and 22.06±7.46 mm in the carcinoma group. In the multivariate analysis, high-grade dysplasia from endoscopic forceps biopsy and red discoloration were significant variables associated with carcinoma in post-resection histology. Conclusion Gastric adenomatous lesions with endoscopic characteristics of surface redness and high-grade dysplasia on forceps biopsy should be resected completely by ESD because of the high possibility of an underestimation after ESD.

This study was conducted to compare the growth, inorganic components, and proximate components of Codonopsis lanceolata grown in 10 regions of Korea for selecting superior species and breeding by crossing. Among the all tested lines, the shortest plant height (217.12 cm) was observed from the Ulleungdo region line (No. 4) while the longest (273.9 cm) was observed from Hwasun region line (No. 9). In addition, the lines of central and northern region (No. 1~No. 7) tend to have shorter plant height than those of southern region (No. 8~No. 9) except Jejudo region line (No. 10). Flowering tends to be late towards southern region, and lines in central and northern regions were started flowering about 2 weeks earlier than those in southern regions. However, the heaviest root weight was 13.1 g, found in only Jejudo line (No. 10) whereas there was no significant difference found in the other regions which have a range of 8.3~11.0 g. The inorganic components were varied in each line, however, proportion of macroelements, such as K, Ca, and P, was the largest for every line. Especially for Heongseong region line (No. 2), had larger proportion of macroelements than the others. There was a difference of proximate compositions of Codonopsis lanceolata, except the moisture content, among all regions, however, it was generally shown that the content of crude protein (1.31~3.76%) and crude fiber (2.18~3.12%) was the highest.

We evaluated the morphological characteristics in 100 super sweet corn inbred lines, which were developed to breeding super sweet corn variety at Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, by examining six quantitative and two qualitative characteristics. On the result of evaluation of two qualitative traits, most of inbred lines showed yellow (91 inbred lines) at seed color (QL1) and weak (68 inbred lines) at seedling vigor (QL2). In the survey of six quantitative traits, the average value for each trait indicated as follows: days of tasseling (QN1, 41.0 to 55.0 days), days of silking (QN2, 44.0 to 59.0 days), anthesis-silking interval (QN3, 2.0 to 7.0 days), tillering (QN4, 0.0 to 2.0), plant height (QN5, 96.0 to 187.0 cm) and ear height (QN6, 30.0 to 86.0 cm). In PCAs (principal component analysis) for 8 morphological characteristics, seedling vigor (QL2) and tillering (QN4) greatly contributed in negative direction and the days of tasseling (QN1) and days of silking (QN2) greatly contributed in positive direction on the first principal component. While, ear height (QN6) and plant height (QN5) contributed in positive direction on the second principal component. Thus these morphological traits, which were greatly contributed in the first and second principal components, might be considered to be useful for discrimination in 100 super sweet corn inbred lines. In our study, the results of morphological variation and PCAs for 100 super sweet corn inbred lines will be helpful for super sweet corn breeding programs such activities as planning crosses for hybrid and line development.

This study was performed to investigate the growth characteristics and inorganic components of Codonopsis lanceolata regarding regional differences. The plant height of Japanese Codonopsis lanceolata was 373.6 cm, so it`s revealed that it has more vigorous growth than Korean won. The flowering time of Korean Codonopsis lanceolata was 2 weeks faster than Japanese one. Total fresh weight of root was 41.0 g and 39.0 g for Korean and Japanese respectively, thus, no significance difference was found. However, regarding fresh weight, Korean one had a more fresh weight (35.4 g) of main root parts, but Japanese one had a more fresh weight (9.6 g) of the lateral root part. Each inorganic component was found more in the aboveground parts, regardless of the region and the content of K was the largest. Regarding the content of macroelements for each part of Codonopsis lanceolata, the content of Na, Mg, P, S, and Ca in Korean Codonopsis lanceolata was found the highest on the leaf, followed by stem and root. In the case of Japanese Codonopsis lanceolata, same result was found on the content of Mg and Ca, however, the highest content of Na and P was found in the stem.

1 DW) was only detected in premature barley. Statistically higher quantities of Na and K were present in premature barley compared to the other two grain-types (P < _ 0.05), whereas mature barley contained the highest amount of P and Fe (P < 0.05). All three grain-types contained similar levels of Ca and Cu. Mature barley contained the highest betaine and choline (49.44 mg 100 g -1 DW and 34.61 mg 100 g -1 DW, respectively). The results indicate that premature barley is nutritionally superior to de-hulled barley.

Soybean (Glycine max L.) is crucial legume crop as source of high quality vegetable protein and oil, and Korea is regarded as a part of center of soybean origin. To expand the information of conserved genetic diversity, we analyzed the genetic variability of soybean collection mainly introduced Korean accessions using 75 microsatellite markers. A total of 1,503 alleles with an average value of 20.0 alleles were detected among 644 accessions. Korean collection revealed average allele number of 13.4 while Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian accessions showed 9.0, 5.4 and 6.5 mean alleles, respectively. Especially, Korean accessions showed more number of private allele per locus as 3.4 contrary to other geographical groups. The mean expected heterozygosity and polymorphic information content was 0.654 and 0.616, respectively, and expected heterozygosity values were not significantly distinguished according to the geographical groups. The phylogenetic dendrogram and deduced population structure based on DNA profiles of 75 SSR loci showed Korean accessions formed distinct gene pool against Chinese accessions, and could be divided into five subpopulations. Korean soybean accessions have specific genetic diversity and might be serve the valuable alleles for bio-industry as a part of the center of soybean origin.

Arsenic (As) is nonessential element toxic to plants. In Korea little is not only known about the extent of actual anthropogenic sources and inputs of arsenic to the agricultural land which plays a active role as a sink, but also systematic research on arsenic as an toxic element entering the food chain via the soil-plant pathway has not been investigated in the fields and greenhouses besides in few places of abandoned mining sites. Therefore, it is important to focus on the effect of As-contaminated soils on As uptake and biomass production of lettuce plants. In this study, As concentrations in the soil and accumulation of As in lettuce transferred by As uptake from soils were investigated. To do this, soil which was mixed with various rates of arsenopyrite gravels containing arsenic from 0 to 100% was packed into a round plastic pot. Then, 10 days old vegetable crops of chinese cabbage and lettuce after germination were transplanted into a pot. Growth of lettuce was observed for four weeks with one week interval. All experiments were done by triplicate. The results showed that the growth rates for number of leaves, width and length of the crop plants were retarded with increasing amount of gravel mixed due to increasing bioavailable amount of arsenate with increasing rate of gravel in soils. With these results, we conclude that the bioavailable amount of arsenate can influence the growth of lettuce.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Ca-gluconate (Ca-glu) on fruit firmness and softening enzyme activities of hydroponically grown tomato ( Solanium esculentum Mill.). The obtained results revealed that the rate of weight loss was markedly increased from at storage to 5 days after storage (DAS) in control, and was constantly increased until 7 DAS as 4.1% in Ca-glu treatment. Fruit firmness was more rapidly decreased in Ca-glu induced fruit compared to control. Results showed that fruit firmness in control and Ca-glu treated fruit were 0.67 and 0.95 kg·φ12 mm -1 , respectively. In our investigation, no difference was revealed in Hunter’s ‘a’ value between control and Ca-glu treated fruit. Total carotenoids content of control fruit were rapidly increased while the Ca-glu treated fruit were gently increased. Lycopene content was higher (63.3 μg․g -1 FW) in control than Ca-glu treatment (56.8 μg․g -1 FW). The activity of Polygalacturonase (PG) was rapidly increased with increasing storage period as from 0.4 to 1.2 units whereas the PG activity of Ca-glu treatment was gently increased from 1 to 7 DAS, and rapidly increased from 7 to 11 DAS. However, the pectinesterase (PE) activity was rapidly increased in control fruit, when the storage period was increased, but interestingly, the Ca-glu treated fruit was slowly increased from 1 to 7 DAS, and rapidly increased 7to 11 DAS. β-galactosidase activity of Ca-glu induced fruit was rapidly increased from 1 to 7 DAS as from 1.6 to 3.0 units, and gently increased from 7 to 11 DAS. β-galactosidase activity of control were higher than Ca-glu treatment.

Background and aim Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is commonly used to obtain tissue external to the gastrointestinal tract. EUS-FNA is relatively safe, but occasionally adverse events have been reported. There is scarcity of data on risk factors of adverse events. The aim of this study is to identify risk factors associated with EUS-FNA. Methods In this multicenter case-control study, we retrospectively reviewed 4,097 cases between 2009 and 2012 at 15 hospitals in Korea. Among the patients there were 104 cases (2.5%) who had adverse events of which 12 (0.29%) were severe. We matched 520 controls (1:5 ratios) stratified by hospital to analyze the potential risk factors. Results The most common adverse events were pancreatitis (45/104, 43.3%) and infection (46/104, 44.2%). Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) on the same day was a risk factor of all adverse events [OR = 2.41, 95% CI (1.41, 4.12)], pancreatitis [OR = 2.31, 95% CI (1.02, 5.25)], and infection [OR = 2.75, 95% CI (1.31, 5.78)]. More than 15 to-and-fro movements during puncture increased the risk of pancreatitis [OR = 2.30, 95% CI (1.11, 4.77)] and infection [OR = 3.65, 95% CI (1.55, 8.59)]. A higher number of punctures was positively correlated with pancreatitis [OR = 1.34, 95% CI (1.08, 1.67)] but negatively correlated with infection [OR = 0.66, 95% CI (0.48, 0.89)]. Conclusions EUS-FNA is a safe procedure in which serious adverse events are rare. We define some risk factors of adverse events during EUS-FNA, including ERCP on the same day, a higher number of punctures, and more than 15 to-and-fro movements.

Misoprostol is reported to prevent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-associated gastroduodenal complications. There is, however, limited information regarding the efficacy of DA-9601 in this context. We performed a comparative study on the relative efficacy of DA-9601 and misoprostol for prevention of NSAID-associated complications. In this multicenter, double-blinded, active-controlled, stratified randomized, parallel group, non-inferiority trial, 520 patients who were to be treated with an NSAID (aceclofenac, 100 mg, twice daily) over a 4-week period were randomly assigned to groups for coincidental treatment with DA-9601 (60 mg, thrice daily) (236 patients for full analysis) or misoprostol (200 μg, thrice daily) (242 patients for full analysis). A total of 236 patients received DA-9601 and 242 received misoprostol. The primary endpoint was the gastric protection rate, and secondary endpoints were the duodenal protection rate and ulcer incidence rate. Endpoints were assessed by endoscopy after the 4-week treatment period. Drug-related adverse effects, including gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, were also compared. At week 4, the gastric protection rates with DA-9601 and misoprostol were 81.4 % (192/236) and 89.3 % (216/242), respectively. The difference between the groups was −14.2 %, indicating non-inferiority of DA-9601 to misoprostol. Adverse event rates were not different between the two groups; however, the total scores for GI symptoms before and after administration were significantly lower in the DA-9601 group than in the misoprostol group (−0.2 ± 2.8 vs 1.2 ± 3.2; p

To explore the possibility of using pyroligneous acid for environmentally friendly ginseng farming, this study observed samples of ginseng whose shoots were treated with pyroligneous acid sprays beginning in mid June, which is after foliation stage. The spongy tissue structure got thickened from triple layers to quadruple layers with the pyroligneous acid regardless of the concentration. The upper and lower epidermis cell of the leaves as well as the leaf mesopyll cells also became thicker. Compared to the no-treatment group, the overall growth and development of ginseng roots treated with pyroligneous acid were excellent. Accordingly, it is believed that pyroligneous acid can be an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional agro-chemicals applied to ginseng that can be used to facilitate the growth and development of ginseng.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of nitrogen rates on the growth characteristics and yield of maize in agricultural fields with the stream. This indicates the necessity and optimal level of nitrous fertilization to examine the possibilities of quantity enhancement. Plant height and ear height of maize were not significantly different among the nitrogen rates. Stem diameter and leaf area index increased in the nitrogen treatment compared to untreated control. Changes of photosynthetic rate in maize leaves depending on nitrogen treatments increased as much as nitrogen rates were increased up to the highest level, 36 kg per 10a. NDF and ADF content levels of maize were investigated with different nitrogen rates regardless of treatments. In the case of NDF, it showed a tendency to decrease after 8 days of tasseling date. ADF had also decreased after 15 days of tasseling date. Nitrogen uptake of maize leaves with different nitrogen rates showed the highest level, 4.9 g kg -1 with 36 kg per 10a on the tasseling date. Ear length and 100-kernel weight, there were no significant differences according to yield and the components with different nitrogen rates. Ear diameter and kernel number, nitrogen rates of 18 kg and 36 kg were increased compared to nitrogen rate of 9 kg per 10a and untreated control. The pericarps in 9 kg nitrogen rate and control were thicker than those of 18 kg and 36 kg treatment. The yield, 18 kg, 36 kg, and 9 kg treatments were increased by 10.96%, 9.27%, and 3.31%, compared to control. The component analysis on maize kernel with different nitrogen rates, starch showed no significant differences among treatments. Total sugar in 18 kg nitrogen treatment represented the highest content level, 6.37%. In addition, Amylopectin in 18 kg treatment showed the highest content level of 90.38%. However, amylose in 18 kg treatment showed the lowest level, 9.62% which drew a conclusion that waxy of 18 kg treatment is considered to be the strongest one. From the results described above, nitrous fertilization is essential to grow maize in agricultural fields with the stream. The optimum level of nitrous fertilization is considered 18 kg per 10a.

Abstract Objectives The association between the chorda tympani nerve (CTN) and atresiaplasty has not been investigated. This study aimed to describe the course of the CTN observed during atresiaplasty for congenital aural atresia (CAA) and explore the feasibility of CTN preservation. Methods In this retrospective study, six consecutive patients who underwent atresiaplasty in a tertiary academic center were included. The course of the tympanic segment of the CTN and its preservation feasibility were evaluated. Atresiaplasty was performed using an anterior approach. The average Jahrsdoerfer score was 8.7 points (range, 8–9 points). Results The CTN was located in the atretic plate in all patients. It emerged from an average of 5.6 mm (range, 5.2–6.1) inferior to the incus buttress and crossed the middle ear in an anterior–superior direction. The distance between the neck of the malleus and the CTN varied in the absence of the malleus handle. However, when the malleus handle developed, the CTN passed between the incus and the malleus handle. The CTN was preserved in two of the six patients. They had a Jahrsdoerfer score of 9 and grade I microtia. Conclusion The CTN was located in the atretic plate, emerging from an average distance of 5.6 mm inferior to the incus buttress. The incus buttress might serve as a good anatomical landmark to identify and preserve the CTN. CTN preservation is feasible in atresiaplasty candidates with a Jahrsdoerfer score of 9 and auricular deformity of grade I. Level of Evidence 4.

Background and Aims Delayed bleeding is an important adverse event after colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). We aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors of delayed bleeding after colorectal ESD and to develop a risk-scoring model for predicting delayed bleeding. Methods This retrospective study was performed at 5 centers. The derivation and validation cohorts comprised 1189 patients from 1 center and 415 patients from the other 4 centers. We investigated the incidence and risk factors of delayed bleeding. Then, we developed a risk-scoring model for predicting delayed bleeding by using the data of the derivation cohort. We validated the scoring system in the validation cohort. Results Delayed bleeding occurred in 34 patients (2.9%) in the derivation cohort. In multivariate analysis, the risk factors of delayed bleeding were tumor location in the rectosigmoid colon (odds ratio [OR], 6.49; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.96-21.42; P = .002), large tumor (≥30 mm) (OR, 2.10; 95% CI, 1.01-4.40; P = .048), and use of antiplatelet agents except for aspirin alone (OR, 4.04; 95% CI, 1.44-11.30; P = .008). These 3 factors were incorporated into a risk-scoring model for prediction of delayed bleeding. As the score based on this system increased, the incidence of delayed bleeding increased in the validation cohort. Conclusion The risk-scoring model incorporating tumor location, tumor size, and use of antiplatelet agents can quantitatively predict the risk of delayed bleeding after colorectal ESD.

OBJECTIVE. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) may facilitate tissue sampling for histopathological diagnosis of subepithelial tumors (SETs) in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. However, immunohistochemistry is not always feasible using EUS-FNA samples due to the low quality of specimens often obtained by aspiration. This study aimed to compare the use of 22-gauge (G) EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) with 22G EUS-FNA for core sampling used for histopathological examination, including immunohistochemistry, in patients with GI SETs. METHODS. Twenty-eight patients with GI SETs ≥2 cm in size were prospectively enrolled at five university hospitals in Korea between January and June 2013. They were randomized to undergo either EUS-FNB or EUS-FNA. RESULTS. A total of 22 patients was finally analyzed in this study: 10 and 12 patients underwent EUS-FNA and EUS-FNB, respectively. Compared to the EUS-FNA group, the EUS-FNB group had a significantly lower median number of needle passes to obtain macroscopically optimal core samples (4 vs. 2, p = 0.025); higher yield rates of macroscopically and histologically optimal core samples with three needle passes (30% vs. 92%, p = 0.006; 20% vs. 75%, p = 0.010, respectively); and a higher diagnostic sufficiency rate (20% vs. 75%, p = 0.010). No technical difficulties were encountered in either group. CONCLUSIONS. This study shows that EUS-FNB has a better ability to obtain histological core samples and a higher diagnostic sufficiency rate than EUS-FNA and that EUS-FNB is a feasible, safe, and preferable modality for adequate core sampling for histopathological diagnosis of GI SETs.

The amounts of selected nutrient components of Korean rice cv. Chuchungbyeo and cv. Samkwangbyeo were compared depending on their harvest time. Rice grains harvested at the 15th and 25th day after heading (DAH) were considered as immature grains while the one at the 40th DAH was considered as mature grains. The results showed that the contents of protein (7.46–7.92 g/100 g) and reducing sugar (230.85–533.49 mg/100 g) in the immature grains were significantly higher than those in the mature grains. Phosphorus and potassium were the dominant minerals in both of cultivars during maturation. Vitamin C and provitamin A (i.e., β-carotene) were found only in immature rice grains of 2 rice cultivars. And immature rice grains contained higher level of vitamin B2, B3, and B6 compared with mature grains. γ-Tocochromanols content in immature grains was higher than that in mature grains.

The pathologic finding of the polyp is usually a hamartomatous polyp of the juvenile type; however, the possibility of serrated adenoma associated malignant neoplasm was reported in some Japanese cases. Up till now in South Korea, 13 CCS cases have been reported, but there was no case accompanied by the colon cancer. We report the first case of CCS associated with malignant colon polyp and serrated adenoma in Korea. A 72-year-old male patient who complained of diarrhea and weight loss was presented with both hands and feet nail dystrophy, hyperpigmentation, and alopecia. Endoscopic examination showed numerous hamartomatous polyps from the stomach to the colon. The pathologic results confirmed colon cancer and serrated adenoma. Helicobacter pylori eradication and prednisolone was used. Thus, the authors report this case along with a literature review.

For organic farming, green manure crops such as leguminous forages and barley have been broadly used to improve soil fertility and soil physical and chemical properties by repeatedly cutting and mulching them directly as winter crop in the field in the rotation. In this investigation we selected 78 agricultural farm corporations as well as individual organic farmhouses related to crop rotation from greenmanure crops to main crops in order to analyze the relationship of cropping system between main crops and green manure crops. The results showed that the green manure crops were divided into two groups as leguminous and nonleguminous crops, representing that those are limited to specific climate and farming systems of regions. Also the 10 or less green manure crops including sudangrass, hairyvetch, italian ryegrass, sorghun, buckwheat, oat, pea, rye, clover, and canola which belong to leguminous crops which are presently cultivated from the organic farmhouses within the rotational crop system. We also confirmed that the major main crops are sweet potato, soybean, corn, tobacco, spinach from usage frequency analyzed by NetMiner H 2.6 which was used to estimate the rotational cropping system among the green manure crops and main crops.

In this paper, we design the physical layer of Guardian modem for wireless public networks. The physical layer is composed of a dual-band RF (Radio Frequency) transceiver and a baseband-processor with quasi-orthogonal codes. The 2.4/5GHz dual-band RF transceiver can overcome the communication difficulty of dense 2.4GHz band for wireless public environment. Also the quasi-orthogonal code can reduce the required ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) design area. Finally, we analyze the performance of the developed system in viewpoint of data rate, BER (Bit Error Rate), PER (Packet Error Rate). Moreover we verify the performance of the dual-band RF communication.

This study was conducted to determine the variation of phenolic compounds in the leaf and stem of 131 accessions of Lycium chinesis Miller. The levels of total phenolic compounds in the leaf of L. chinesis ranged between 8.8 to 14.9 mg g -1 and among them 60% of the accessions belong between 11.6 and 13.5 mg g -1 for the content of phenolic compounds in the leaf. The accession CB03286-89 contained the highest total phenolic compounds among the accessions tested, which was 1.7-fold higher than that of the lowest content accession CBP03310-250. In the stem, the total phenolic compound of 131 accessions of L. chinesis ranged from 6.8 to 12.4 mg g -1 , showing slightly lower level than that in the leaf. The content of (+)catechin was highest in the leaf and stem of accession CB03286-89 and Japan No.1, respectively. Myricetin was detected in the leaf of seven accessions (i.e. Geumsan jaerae, Japan No.1, China collection No.1, CL32-13, CB04329-13, China collection No.12 and CB03286-89) and in the stem of five accessions (i.e., Japan No.1, China collection No.1, China collection No.12, CB03286-89 and 99797). Accessions had a great influence on the content of phenolic compounds. So, accessions-specific phenolic compound profiles might be helpful for commercial use or production of phenolic compounds in

Until now few comparisons of nutritional compounds in premature green and mature yellow wheat have been reported. In this study, the contents of amino acids, vitamins, mineral compounds, phytosterols, and fatty acids as well as the proximate composition of premature green and mature yellow wheat were investigated. Premature green wheat had lower protein content (12.0 g/100 g db) and higher dietary fiber content (19.3 g/100 g db) than mature yellow wheat (13.6 and 14.3 g/100 g db for protein and dietary fiber, respectively). Despite a small difference in total amino acids, protein in premature wheat had a significantly greater proportion of essential amino acids: 16.1, 39.9, and 32.7 mg/g of protein for methionine, lysine, and threonine, respectively. Furthermore, the protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores of whole grain premature green and mature yellow wheat were 62.8 and 46.4, respectively, showing significant difference (P < 0.05). Total fatty acids content was 2.66 g/100 g db for p...

Randomness is a basic security evaluation item for the most cryptographic algorithms. NIST has proposed a statistical test suit for random number generators for cryptographic applications in the process of AES project. However the test suit of NIST is customized to block ciphers which have the same input and output lengths. It needs to revise NIST's test suit for key derivation functions which have multiple output blocks. In this paper we propose a revised method of NIST's statistical randomness test adequate to the most key derivation functions and some experimental results for key derivation functions of 3GSM and NIST.Keywords:Statistical Randomness Test, Key Derivation Function, Multiple Block Output Function 1.

Background The Korean College of Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Research has studied Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) prevalence since 1998 and found a dynamic change in its prevalence in Korea. The aim of this study was to determine the recent H. pylori prevalence rate and compare it with that of previous studies according to socioeconomic variables. Methods We planned to enroll 4920 asymptomatic Korean adults from 21 centers according to the population distribution of seven geographic areas (Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Kyungsang, Cholla, and Jeju). We centrally collected serum and tested H. pylori serum IgG using a chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay. Results We analyzed 4917 samples (4917/4920 = 99.9%) from January 2015 to December 2016. After excluding equivocal serologic results, the H. pylori seropositivity rate was 51.0% (2414/4734). We verified a decrease in H. pylori seroprevalence compared with previous studies performed in 1998, 2005, and 2011 (P

2 ) and standard (60×10 cm, 33 plants m -2 ) planting one by using five cultivars of the small seed soybean for sprout, which showing different plant-types for three years. The yield and the number of pods showed a significant posi- tive correlation. Meanwhile, the internode length and the lodging index showed a negative correlation. Characters correlated with the planting density were the internode length, the lodging index, the pods of main stem, and the harvest index as the primary principle components. Other characters like the branch angle, the number of total pods, and the leaf area index were correlated as the secondary principle compo- nents. However, the harvest index, the number of pods, and the leaf area were known as influencing factors to both standard and double density. Thus, the internode length, the branch angle, the lodging, and the pods of main stem can be selected as infecting characters to the planting density adaptation.
