In late 2018, Jet Blue, American Airlines, and Delta began utilizing facial recognition software (FRS) in American airports: Jet Blue explained that the company had, "in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), today announced the roll-out of its first fully-integrated biometric self-boarding gate." The airlines' cooperation with the CBP, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Transportation Security Agency is part of a larger program titled the Biometric Air Exit (BAE) aimed at "biometrically [verifying] the departure of foreign nationals from the United States." In this way, the face included in a passport or visa, and/or included in mechanisms like the BAE, becomes the citizen's way of "proving" their worth as a citizen and their "belonging" to the membership of that nation. Examining how FRS is used to identify and sort citizenship within mechanisms like the BAE is immensely important; alongside this, the process of how "citizen" and "noncitizen" is defined, as data points within larger mechanisms like the BAE, need to be made transparent. The categories of "citizen" and "non-citizen," as sortable data categories, are not objective and are vulnerable to political purposes; building FRS with such categories at their cores leaves FRS open to manipulation by political systems. Increasing transparency throughout systems like FRS serves dual purposes: it will generate informed and effective policy and regulation of the technology; and it will clarify the political motivations behind labeling certain individuals and populations as citizens and others as non-citizens. DATA envelopment analysis , *BUSINESS analytics - Abstract
The study presents Proposed Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approaches for intelligent business analytics of the US Airline industry to gain more knowledge, control, flexibility and trade-off among various inputs to the system/industry. Three new proposed DEA models are presented. The results obtained provide credible data analytics and intelligent business suggestions. Firstly the proposed input oriented and the proposed output oriented DEA models are formulated. The proposed input oriented DEA model suggests how resource utilization can be minimized while operating in with the same output level. Further, the proposed output oriented model suggests how output efficiency can be increased to a benchmark level while keeping the input at the same level. Then the proposed Slack Based DEA model SBM is formulated. The proposed models are then solved with the DEA Excel Solver for finding the efficient points in the Pareto Frontier. Representing the Pareto Frontier as a function of total system revenue gives necessary information about the inputs growth and their trade-off with the output. Furthermore, the proposed Slack Based DEA model (SBM) intelligently measures the technical efficiency of each airline. The results show that three airlines namely American, United and Jet Blue are weakly efficient operating below the proposed SBM efficient frontier. Furthermore, the results intelligently suggest the possible inputs reduction and outputs increases to get to the efficient frontier for the management of the concerned airlines. The proposed SBM slacks suggest the possible areas of improvement for future planning and optimal operating input/output levels for the top management of the weakly efficient airlines. After becoming chief executive in 2004 Kelly took steps to improve SouthWest's efficiency and help it better compete against JetBlue and other carriers.

What distinguishes a company that has deeply engaged and committed employees from another one that doesn't? It's not a certain compensation scheme or talent-management practice. Instead, it's the ability to express to current and potential employees what makes the organization unique. Companies with highly engaged employees articulate their values and attributes through "signature experiences" --visible, distinctive elements of the work environment that send powerful messages about the organization's aspirations and about the skills, stamina, and commitment employees will need in order to succeed there. Whole Foods Market, for example, uses a team-based hiring and orientation process to convey to new employees the company's emphasis on collaboration and decentralization. At JetBlue, the reservation system is run by agents from their homes, a signature experience that boosts employees' satisfaction and productivity. Companies that successfully create and communicate signature experiences understand that not all workers want the same things. Indeed, employee preferences are an important but often overlooked factor in the war for talent. Firms that have engendered productive and engaged workforces address those preferences by following some general principles: They target potential employees as methodically as they target potential customers; they shape their signature experiences to address business needs; they identify and preserve their histories; they share stories --not just slogans-- about life in the firm; they create processes consistent with their signature experiences; and they understand that they shouldn't try to be all things to all people. The best strategy for coming out ahead in the war for talent is not to scoop up everyone in sight but to attract the right people -- those who are intrigued and excited by the environment the company offers and who will reward it with their loyalty.
