Abstract

It is described how the measurement of nγ-coincidences can be used to identify single-particle states in 133Sn. This method, in combination with the improved yields at ISOLDE, has facilitated firm determination of three excited single-particle states in 133Sn: p3/2, h9/2 and f5/2. The i13/2 state is not observed in this experiment and probably unbound, and the data did not allow a firm identification of the p1/2 state. The results are well reproduced in a Woods–Saxon calculation based on the data from the 208Pb region and taking into account the distance from β-stability of the 132Sn region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Beta decay of 58Zn has been studied for the first time. A new laser ion-source concept has been used to produce mass-separated sources for beta and gamma spectroscopy. The half-life of 58Zn was determined to be 86(18) ms. Comparisons are made with previous data from charge-exchange reactions. Our Gamow–Teller strength to the 1+ state at 1051 keV excitation in 58Cu agrees well with the value extracted from a recent (3He, t) study. Extensive shell-model calculations are presented. Abstract

We have measured the beta-decay of 31Ar with a high granularity setup sensitive to multiparticle decay branches. Two-proton emission is observed from the isobaric analog state in 31Cl to the four lowest states in 29P and furthermore from a large number of states fed in Gamow–Teller transitions. The mechanism of two-proton emission is studied via energy and angular correlations between the two protons. In all cases the mechanism is found to be sequential yielding information about states in 30S up to 8 MeV excitation energy. Improved data on the β-delayed one-proton branches together with the two-proton data provide precise information about the beta-strength distribution up to 15 MeV excitation energy.

Abstract

A chemically selective laser ion source based on resonance ionization of atoms in a hot cavity has been applied for the study of short-lived silver isotopes at CERN/ ISOLDE. Silver atoms were ionized by two resonant excitations and final laser ionization into the continuum. Decay properties of the neutron-rich isotopes121–127Ag were studied with a neutron long-counter and aβ-detector.
