The Exposure Therapy Consortium (ETC) was established to advance the science and practice of exposure therapy. To encourage participation from researchers and clinicians, this article describes the organizational structure and activities of the ETC. Initial research working group experiences and a proof-of-principle study underscore the potential of team science and larger-scale collaborative research in this area. Clinical working groups have begun to identify opportunities to enhance access to helpful resources for implementing exposure therapy effectively. This article discusses directions for expanding the consortium’s activities and its impact on a global scale.

We take historical stock of charisma, tracing its origins and how it has been conceptualized in the sociological and organizational sciences literatures. Although charisma has been intensely studied, the concept is still not well understood and much of the research undertaken cannot inform policy. We show that the major obstacles to advancing our understanding of charisma have included issues with its definition, its confusion with transformational leadership, the use of questionnaire measures, and that it has not been studied using correctly specified causal models. To help spawn a new genre of research on charisma, we use signaling theory to provide a general definition of charisma, and make suggestions about how charisma should be conceptualized, operationalized, and modeled. We also describe trends and patterns in articles we reviewed, using cocitation as well as bibliometric analyses, and discuss the practical implications of our findings.

Bifunctional molecules that combine independent push–pull fluorophores and azo photochromes have been synthesized to create fluorescent structures upon light‐induced migration in neat thin films. Their photochromic and emissive properties have been systematically investigated and interpreted in light of those of the corresponding model compounds. Fluorescence lifetimes and photoisomerization and fluorescence quantum yields have been determined in toluene solution. Kinetic analyses of the femtosecond transient absorption spectra reveal that the fluorophores evolve in a few picoseconds into a distorted intramolecular charge‐transfer excited state, strongly stabilized in energy. Radiative relaxation to the ground state occurred competitively with the energy‐transfer process to the azo moiety. Introduction of a 10 Å‐long rigid and nonconjugated bridge between the photoactive units efficiently inhibits the energy transfer while it imparts enhanced free volume, which favors photoactivated molecular migration in the solid state.

Une étude de la maturation de la croissance mandibulaire a été réalisée sur une population de 103 patients en cours de traitement (69 filles et 34 garçons) de 11 à 16 ans présentant initialement une classe II squelettique. La relation entre les indices de maturation du poignet et la classification de la maturation des vertèbres cervicales selon Lamparski a été étudiée. Des corrélations significatives ont été trouvées entre les stades de Björk, MP3=, MP3 cap et MP3 U et respectivement les stades de Lamparski CVS 2, CVS 3-4 et CVS 5-6. Cette étude longitudinale rétrospective a cerné trois variables mandibulaires à trois stades de maturation différentes selon la classification de Björk et selon la classification en six stades de Lamparski. Les relations entre ces différents stades de maturation et la réponse quantitative de la croissance mandibulaire permettent de situer la période optimale de stimulation thérapeutique. Les résultats indiquent une augmentation significative des longueurs mandibulaires au stade CVS 4 et CVS 5, laissant présager de la persistance d’une réponse condylienne à une stimulation thérapeutique après le stade CVS 3-CVS 4 (MP3 cap). Le dynamisme mandibulaire semble se poursuivre après le stade MP3 U soit après le stade CVS 5.

Yttrium phosphates codoped (Ce3+,Ln3+) and (Pr3+,Ln3+) with Ln = Nd, Er, Ho, Dy were investigated by thermally stimulated luminescence. Similar to Ce3+, Pr3+was found able to trap holes up to high temperatures while being the radiative recombination center, whereas the Ln3+codopant played the role of the electron trap. Trapping depths for all studied Ln3+(Ln = Ce, Pr, Nd, Er, Ho, Dy) were found to follow the Ln2+energy levels prediction. Low-temperature electron trapping at Ce3+and Pr3+was, therefore, evidenced for the first time at 0.20−0.27 and 0.58 eV, respectively. The 195 K peak was attributed to self-trapped charges in YPO4, whereas the 480 K peak was uniquely associated with praseodymium doping. Pr3+as the luminescent center and Nd3+/Er3+/Ho3+/Dy3+as the codopant were selected to design a red persistent luminescence phosphor. The best persistent luminescence was obtained as predicted by the model for Ho3+codoping, though it was shown to originate from both thermally assisted detrapping from (Pr3+,Ho3+) and athermal tunneling recombination.

Rats were lesioned in the midline cerebellum, comprising the vermis and fastigial nucleus, or the lateral cerebellum, comprising the cerebellar hemispheres and dentate nucleus, and evaluated in a series of motor and non-motor learning tests. Rats with midline lesions had difficulty in maintaining their equilibrium on a bridge and were slower before turning upward and traversed less squares on an inclined grid. They were not impaired for muscle strength when suspended from a horizontal wire. Rats with lateral lesions had milder deficits on the bridge and were not affected in the other two tests. In the Morris water maze test, rats with lateral lesions were deficient in spatial orientation, whereas rats with midline lesions were deficient in visuomotor coordination. Lateral lesions had no effects on visual discrimination learning. These results illustrate the differential influence of midline as opposed to lateral cerebellar regions on both motor and non-motor behaviors. Fastigial nucleus lesions decreased the time spent in equilibrium and latencies before falling on the bridge and the distance travelled along the inclined grid but had no effect on muscle strength when suspended from the horizontal string. Quadrant entries and escape latencies were higher in rats with fastigial lesions during the hidden platform condition of the Morris water maze but not during the visible platform condition. It is concluded that fastigial-lesioned rats are impaired in equilibrium and spatial orientation but with repeated trials learn to improve their performances.

A warning system for the control of fire blight in pear and apple has been described. It is based upon the determination at the local level of a climatic potential (CP), and an inoculum potential (IP). These potentials are combined in order to estimate an overall level of risk. A recommended control measure is associated with this risk. Among the inputs required, climatic data, forecast of certain climatic parameters and precise information about the disease situation in the plot and its surroundings are essential. The warning system is computerized, and has been devised for use with an IBM-PC personal microcomputer; its availability to growers and plant protection services is presently under study. Il est tenu compte ?galement de la ph?nologie de l'h?te; 3 p?riodes sont consid?r?es : pr?floraison (stades D ? E2), floraison (E2? G), postfloraison (apr?s le stade G). En postfloraison, l'?tat physiologique de l'h?te doit ?tre pr?cis? (croissance, pr?sence de floraison d'?t?). La combinaison de ces potentiels, sp?cifique ? chacune de ces p?riodes permet la d?finition d'un conseil de lutte, gradu? en 3 niveaux (ne pas intervenir, r?aliser une visite du verger, traiter chimiquement) (tableaux VI, VII, VIII). Ce syst?me, d'utilisation simple, est pr?vu pour fonctionner sur un micro-ordinateur compatible PC. II demande, pour donner satisfaction, que plusieurs conditions soient r?unies : en particulier une ?tude climatique pr?alable de la zone est n?cessaire, de m?me que la disponibilit? de pr?visions m?t?orologiques adapt?es. De plus, une connaissance locale des conditions dans lesquelles se d?veloppe le feu bact?rien (sensibilit? vari?tale, vecteurs, plantes h?tes secondaires, fertilisation) reste indispensable. Les 3 produits utilisables dans la lutte en France (flum?quine, cuivre, phos?tylaluminium) peuvent ?tre associ?s ? l'utilisation de ce syst?me d'avertissement, dont la diffusion aupr?s des arboriculteurs et des services de la protection des v?g?taux est en cours d'?tude.

The textile company Jacquart Fabric Products has come a long way since it was a tiny Ironwood, Michigan, tailoring shop. Owner Bob Jacquart went to work in his father's shop in 1971, and now the business boasts annual revenues of $17 million. Jacquart expects the number to double in the next five years. Not bad for a man who was the sewing machine mechanic and payroll clerk, as well as the owner, in earlier years. The company offers a mix of products including dog beds, boat and truck covers, awnings, industrial covers, and the Stormy Kromer hat, an Upper Peninsula tradition. Commenting on the nature of his custom products and the just-in-time system that gets them out the door, Jacquart said that Chinese can't make a custom-made jacket and have it on people's body in five days.
