Frozen microspheres of hydrogen (pellets) are used as targets in the hadron physics experiment WASA (Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany) [1] and will also be used in the future PANDA experiment at FAIR (GSI, Darmstadt, Germany) [2]. The interaction region is defined by the overlap of the pellet stream and the accelerator beam and has a size of a few millimeters. One would like to know the interaction point more precisely, to have better possibility to reconstruct particle tracks and events. One would also like to suppress background events that do not originate in a pellet, but e.g. may occur in residual gas in the beam pipe. A solution is provided by the presented pellet tracking system, for which a prototype [3] has been developed in Uppsala. The goal is to track individual pellets in order to know their position at the time of an interaction. The design of such a system, simulation techniques and results are presented.

- Abstract
CompactLight (XLS) is an International Collaboration of 24 partners and 5 third parties, funded by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. The main goal of the project, which started in January 2018 with a duration of 36 months, is the design of an hard X-ray FEL facility beyond today’s state of the art, using the latest concepts for bright electron photo-injectors, high-gradient accelerating structures, and innovative short-period undulators. The specifications of the facility and the parameters of the future FEL are driven by the demands of potential users and the associated science cases. The KLOE experiment at the ϕ – factory DAΦNE in Frascati near Rome is the first to have employed Initial State Radiation (ISR) to precisely determine the e + e − → π + π − ( γ ) cross section below 1 GeV. Such a measurement is particularly important to test the Standard Model (SM) calculation for the ( g − 2 ) of the muon, where a long standing 3 σ discrepancy is observed. In 2005 and 2008 KLOE published two measurements of the π + π − cross section with the photon emitted at small angles, and an independent measurement of the π + π − cross section with the photon emitted at large angles using data at a collision energy of 1 GeV (i.e., 20 MeV below the ϕ -peak) was published in 2010. While the measurements were normalized to the DAΦNE luminosity using large angle Bhabha scattering, a new analysis has been performed which derives the pion form factor directly from measuring the bin-by-bin π + π − γ / μ + μ − γ ratio. We present the preliminary results of this new measurement, as well as the previously published ones, and the impact on the evaluation of the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly.

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Subsequent stages will focus on measurements of rare Higgs processes, as well as searches for new physics processes and precision measurements of new states, e.g. states previously discovered at LHC or at CLIC itself. In the 2012 CLIC Conceptual Design Report, a fully optimised 3 TeV collider was presented, while the proposed lower energy stages were not studied to the same level of detail. This report presents an updated baseline staging scenario for CLIC. The scenario is the result of a comprehensive study addressing the performance, cost and power of the CLIC accelerator complex as a function of centre-of-mass energy and it targets optimal physics output based on the current physics landscape. The optimised staging scenario foresees three main centre-of-mass energy stages at 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV for a full CLIC programme spanning 22 years. For the first stage, an alternative to the CLIC drive beam scheme is presented in which the main linac power is produced using X-band klystrons. Neutral kaon pairs produced in phi decays in anti-symmetric entangled state can be exploited to search for violation of CPT symmetry and Lorentz invariance. We present an analysis of the CP-violating process phi->K_S K_L->pi+pi-pi+pi- based on 1.7 fb-1 of data collected by the KLOE experiment at the Frascati phi-factory DAFNE. The data are used to perform a measurement of the CPT-violating parameters Delta_amu for neutral kaons in the contest of the Standard Model Extension framework. The parameters measured in the reference frame of the fixed stars are: Delta_ao = (-6.0 +- 7.7_{stat} +- 3.1_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV Delta_ax = ( 0.9 +- 1.5_{stat} +- 0.6_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV Delta_ay = (-2.0 +- 1.5_{stat} +- 0.5_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV Delta_az = ( 3.1 +- 1.7_{stat} +- 0.5_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV These are presently the most precise measurements in the quark sector of the Standard Model Extension., 16 pages, 6 figures, added few typo corrections

The phi-factory DAPHNE offers a possibility to select pure kaon beams, charged and neutral ones. In particular, neutral kaons from phi->KS KL are produced in pairs and the detection of a KS (KL) tags the presence of a KL (KS). This allows to perform precise measurements of kaon properties by means of KLOE detector. Another advantage of a phi-factory consists in fact that the neutral kaon pairs are produced in a pure quantum state (J^(PC) = 1^(--)), which allowsto investigate CP and CPT symmetries via quantum interference effects, as well as the basic principles of quantum mechanics.A review of the most recent results of the KLOE experiment at DAPHNE using pure kaon beams or via quantum interferometry is presented together with prospects for kaon physics at KLOE-2., 5 pages, 4 figures, From Phi To Psi 2011 conference, to be published in Nuclear Physics B (Proceedings Supplements)

We present a measurement of the slope parameter a for the eta -> 3 pi(0) decay with the KLOE experiment at the DA Phi NE phi-factory based on a background free sample of similar to 17 million eta mesons produced in phi radiative decays By fitting the event density in the Dalitz plot we determine alpha = -0 0301 +/- 0 0035stat(-0 0035)(+0 0022) syst The result is in agreement with recent measurements from hadro- and photo-production experiments (C) 2010 Elsevier BV All rights reserved

We present a precise measurement of the ratio R(K) = Gamma(K -> e nu(gamma))/Gamma(K -> mu nu(gamma)) and a study of the radiative process K -> e nu gamma, performed with the KLOE detector. The results are based on data collected at the Frascati e(+)e(-) collider DA Phi NE for an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb(-1). We find R(K) = (2.493 +/- 0.025(stat) +/- 0.019(syst)) x 10(-5), in agreement with the Standard Model expectation. This result is used to improve constraints on parameters of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with lepton flavor violation. We also measured the differential decay rate d Gamma(K -> e nu gamma)/dE(gamma) for photon energies 10 < E(gamma) < 250 MeV. Results are compared with predictions from theory.

- Abstract
The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Subsequent stages will focus on measurements of rare Higgs processes, as well as searches for new physics processes and precision measurements of new states, e.g. states previously discovered at LHC or at CLIC itself. In the 2012 CLIC Conceptual Design Report, a fully optimised 3 TeV collider was presented, while the proposed lower energy stages were not studied to the same level of detail. This report presents an updated baseline staging scenario for CLIC. The scenario is the result of a comprehensive study addressing the performance, cost and power of the CLIC accelerator complex as a function of centre-of-mass energy and it targets optimal physics output based on the current physics landscape. The optimised staging scenario foresees three main centre-of-mass energy stages at 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV for a full CLIC programme spanning 22 years. For the first stage, an alternative to the CLIC drive beam scheme is presented in which the main linac power is produced using X-band klystrons.

The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in particle physics and a persistent discrepancy of about $3 \sigma$ between standard model (SM) prediction and the experimental measurement has been observed. The leading order contribution $a_{\mu }^{hlo}$ is actually the main source of uncertainty in the theoretical evaluation of the muon anomaly. It is obtained by a dispersion integral using the precision measurement of hadronic cross section. The KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE $\phi$ −factory in Frascati was the first to exploit Initial State Radiation (ISR) processes to obtain the $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow \pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\left ( \gamma \right )$ cross section below 1 GeV, that accounts for most (70%) of the leading order contribution to the muon anomaly. In year 2005 and 2008 the KLOE-collaboration has published two measurements of the $\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}$ cross section with the photon in the initial state emitted at small angle, and an independent measurement with the photon emitted at large angle was finalized in year 2011. These measurements were normalized using luminosity from Bhabha. In the last years, a new analysis of KLOE data has been performed for obtaining the pion form factor directly from the bin-by-bin $\pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\gamma$ to $\mu ^{+}\mu ^{-}\gamma$ ratio. We present the results of this new measurement, showing the comparison with our previous measurements, and its impact on the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly.

A Flashbox compact spectrometer has been developed for the Two-beam Test Stand (TBTS), which is a part of the CLIC test facility CTF3 at CERN. It is used to study RF breakdown currents emitted from high gradient X-band accelerating structures being prototyped in the TBTS. The Flashbox is built around the beam tube such that an electron beam can pass to be accelerated in the accelerating structure while charged particles emitted from the structure can be intercepted on the spectrometer consisting of detector plates aligned along the beam axis in combination with magnetic and electric fields. The Flashbox has made it possible to identify electrons and ions emitted by the accelerating structure during RF breakdowns. We describe the Flashbox and first results.

Understanding the effects of RF breakdown in high-gradient accelerator structures on the accelerated beam is an extremely relevant aspect in the development of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) and is one of the main issues addressed at the Two-beam Test Stand at the CLIC Test Facility 3 at CERN. During a RF breakdown large electro-magnetic fields are generated and produce parasitic magnetic fields which interact with the accelerated beam affecting its orbit and energy. We discuss here measurements of such effects observed on an electron beam accelerated in a CLIC prototype structure. Measurements of the trajectory of bunch-trains on a nanosecond time-scale showed fast changes in correspondence of breakdown which we compare with measurements of the relative beam spots on a scintillating screen. We identify different breakdown scenarios for which we offer an explanation based also on measurements of the power at the input and output ports of the accelerator structure. Finally we present the distribution of the magnitude of the observed changes in the beam orbit and we discuss its correlation with RF power and breakdown location in the accelerator structure. Neutral kaons from meson decays are produced in pairs, which offers the possibility to select pure kaon beams: the detection of a Ks (KL) tags the presence of a KL (Ks), the same holds for charged kaons. This allows to perform precise measurement of kaon properties. Additionally, these neutral kaon pairs are produced in a pure quantum state (JPC = 1−−), which allows to investigate CP and CPT symmetries via quantum interference effects, as well as the basic principles of quantum mechanics. Introduction to kaon interferometry and the results on the decoherence parameter and CPT test obtained by the KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE e+e− collider will be presented together with prospects for KLOE-2 project.

We present a new limit on the production of a light dark-force mediator with the KLOE detector at DAPHNE. This boson, called U, has been searched for in the decay phi --> eta U, U --> e+ e-, analyzing the decay eta --> pi0 pi0 pi0 in a data sample of 1.7 fb-1. No structures are observed in the e+e- invariant mass distribution over the background. This search is combined with a previous result obtained from the decay eta --> pi+ pi- pi0, increasing the sensitivity. We set an upper limit at 90% C.L. on the ratio between the U boson coupling constant and the fine structure constant of alpha'/alpha < 1.7x10^-5 for 30, Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, updated PLB version

We present a new search for the $K_{S}\rightarrow 3\pi ^{0}$ decay performed with the KLOE detector operating at the DAΦNE $\phi$ -factory. The $K_{S}$ mesons were tagged via registration of $K_{L}$ mesons which crossed the drift chamber without decaying and interacted with the KLOE electromagnetic calorimeter. The $K_{S}\rightarrow 3\pi ^{0}$ decay was then searched requiring six prompt photons. To suppress background, originating from fake $K_{S}$ tags and $K_{S}\rightarrow 2\pi ^{0}$ decays with additional two spurious clusters, we have performed a discriminant analysis based on kinematical fit, testing of the signal and background hypotheses and exploiting of the differences in kinematics of the $K_{S}$ decays into $2\pi ^{0}$ and $3\pi ^{0}$. In a sample of about 1.7$\cdot 10^{9} \phi \rightarrow K_{S}K_{L}$ events we have found no candidates in data and simulated background samples. Normalizing to the number of $K_{S}\rightarrow 2\pi^{0}$ events in the same sample, we have set the upper limit on the $K_{S}\rightarrow 3\pi^{0}$ branching ratio BR $\left ( K_{S}\rightarrow 3\pi^{0} \right )< 2.6\cdot 10^{-8}$ at 90% C.L., five times lower than the previous limit. This upper limit can be translated into a limit on the modulus of the $\eta _{000}$ parameter amounting to $\left | \eta _{000} \right |< 0.0088$ at 90% C.L., improving by a factor two the latest direct measurement.

We have carried out a new direct search for the CP violating decay $K_{S}\rightarrow 3\pi ^{0}$ with $1.7 fb^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions collected by the KLOE detector at the $\phi$ -factory DA$\Phi$ NE. We have searched for this decay in a sample of about $5.9 \times 10^{8} K_{S}K_{L}$ events tagging the $K_{S}$ by means of the $K_{L}$ interaction in the calorimeter and requiring six prompt photons. With respect to our previous search, the analysis has been improved by increasing of a factor four the tagged sample and by a more effective background rejection of fake $K_{S}$ tags and spurious clusters. We find no candidates in data and simulated background samples, while we expect 0.12 standard model events. Normalizing to the number of $K_{S}\rightarrow 2\pi ^{0}$ events in the same sample, we set the upper limit on $BR\left ( K_{S}\rightarrow 3\pi^{0} \right )\leqslant 2.6 \times 10^{-8}$ at 90% C.L., five times lower than the previous limit. We also set the upper limit on the $\eta _{000}$ parameter, $\mid \eta _{000}\mid\leqslant 0.0088$ at 90% C.L., improving by a factor two the latest direct measurement.

Neutral kaons produced in the correlated pairs at the DAΦNE $\phi$ -factory offer unique possibilities to perform fundamental tests of CPT invariance, as well as of the basic principles of quantum mechanics. The analysis of the data collected by the KLOE experiment allows to improve results on several parameters describing CPT violation and decoherence, and to measure the regeneration cross section on the beam pipe materials.
