Esta tesis doctoral tiene como fin realizar una revisión de los principios económicos del turismo desde una perspectiva de la economía de la innovación, analizar el potencial impacto de la aplicación de IA en la industria turística a todos los niveles, y el estudio del mercado turístico más disruptivo de las últimas décadas: la economía de plataforma, ejemplificada en el caso de estudio de Airbnb. En este Capítulo I se establece el hilo conductor de los apartados de los que consta esta tesis en formato compendio, inspirada en diversos trabajos, entre los que se incluyen los publicados por el doctorando en esta etapa predoctoral. Para ello se presenta el diseño de la investigación, explicando detalladamente todo el proceso realizado para lograr el planteamiento de la tesis y la consecución de los objetivos y se dedica un breve apartado para presentar las principales conclusiones de la tesis. El Capítulo II de esta investigación está dedicado a la revisión de la evolución del concepto de innovación y su importancia en la teoría económica. Para ello nos basaremos en referentes teóricos que han estudiado el papel de la tecnología y la innovación en el crecimiento económico, como Schumpeter, Solow, Romer o Lucas. Con ello se pretende comprender el impacto que están teniendo los cambios disruptivos que vivimos en la economía, para posteriormente aplicarlos a la transformación de la estructura de la industria turística. En el Capítulo III se realiza un análisis aplicado de la innovación y del impacto de las nuevas tecnologías en el sector turístico. En él se estudiará el estado de la innovación del sector, realizando importantes aclaraciones sobre la capacidad que tiene la industria para adaptar o desarrollar tecnologías disruptivas. Además, se explicarán los principios digitales que están transformando la industria turística y el nuevo ciclo de investigación derivado de la aparición del Big Data y que está protagonizado por técnicas basadas en algoritmos de Machine Learni

La presente tesis doctoral se estructura en un total de seis capítulos. En el primer capítulo se presenta la motivación de este trabajo y se expone la estructura de la investigación, las hipótesis y los objetivos más relevantes. Además, se comentan de forma breve las conclusiones que se derivan de cada uno de los capítulos y los antecedentes de investigación que el doctorando ha llevado a cabo hasta la fecha, incluyendo artículos, participación en congresos y seminarios, y el trabajo en proyectos de investigación, entre otros. En el Capítulo II se realiza una aproximación a la teoría de la economía de la innovación, estudiando la aportación de los autores más relevantes, como Joseph A. Schumpeter, Paul Romer, Robert Solow o Robert Lucas, entre otros muchos. En él se establece la que será la base teórica para el conjunto de la tesis, dado que son los fundamentos teóricos de estos autores los que permiten entender la relevancia de la tecnología en el desarrollo económico. Sin comprender por qué la disrupción tecnológica es capaz de provocar un verdadero salto cualitativo y cuantitativo en nuestro tejido productivo, pero también en la propia teoría económica, no podríamos explicar las transformaciones que están teniendo lugar en nuestra sociedad, ni el impacto macroeconómico esperado de la inteligencia artificial (IA) en una mayor fase de desarrollo. En el Capítulo III, tras exponer las medidas y estrategias de las principales potencias económicas en el campo de la IA, realizamos nuestra primera aproximación aplicada. En concreto, llevamos a cabo un análisis sobre el grado de preparación para la adopción de la IA por parte de un conjunto de países, lo que nos conduce a generar un índice multivariable en el que se tiene en cuenta diferentes dimensiones como el capital físico y el entorno, el capital humano y el capital organizativo y social. This paper analyses the prediction capacity of machine learning techniques under severe demand shocks. Specifically, three methods – Naive Bayes, Random Forest and Support Vector Machine – are tested in predicting rental occupancy for tourist accommodation in the city of Madrid. We compare two different scenarios: firstly, the predictive capacity in the years prior to COVID-19 and, secondly, the ability to anticipate demand behaviour once the pandemic started. The results demonstrate first that without market disturbances, the Random Forest model exhibits the best predictive capability. Second, the COVID-19 pandemic caused such major changes that none of the three tested models are entirely reliable, although the Random Forest and Naive Bayes models outperform the SVM model. As a methodological novelty, this paper includes occupancy quantiles to resolve problems with available data and temporal biases.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the dynamics of short-term rental demand, particularly on Airbnb, have seen pivotal shifts. Using Madrid as a case study, this research used strategic sampling to investigate changes in occupancy, housing attributes, and online reputation. Leveraging a sup-likelihood ratio test and a hedonic-type pooled panel-data Logit regression, we identified a marked structural break. Findings revealed a diminished demand-side bargaining power, resulting in increased rental prices and reduced information transparency. These results offered critical insights for tourism industry stakeholders, especially destination managers and Airbnb hosts.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to attempt to fill the gap in extant literature by evaluating a hotel’s performance in terms of efficiency before and during COVID-19 and provide a performance measurement knowledge of both stable and turbulent environments. Design/methodology/approach: The sample consists of 20 Hotels: 3-star and 4-star operating in Barcelona, Spain. This study uses data envelopment analysis (DEA) to analyse the efficiency of those Hotels between 2012 and 2021. The analysis includes five input variables: (X1) Current Assets; (X2) Non-Current (Fixed) Assets; (X3) Shareholders’ equity; (X4) Cost of employees; (X5) Material Costs and one output variable: (Y) Operating revenue. Findings: The results of DEA efficiency analysis showed that hotels belonging to 3-star hotels are more inefficient than to 4-Star hotels starting from 2013. While observing each inefficient hotel’s performance during the 10-year period and comparing the level of inefficiency of inefficient hotels before and during the COVID-19, it became clear that the pandemic had a negative impact on all of them. We can also notice that during COVID-19 we have more 3-star hotels being inefficient and having a high level of inefficiency than 4 stars hotels. The lambda analysis showed that during 10-year period more 3-star hotels were identified as principal models to follow than 4-star hotels. Finally, the slack analysis revealed that inefficient 3-star hotels have to make adjustments in more resources such as Current Assets, Non-Current (Fixed) Assets and Shareholder’s Equity than 4-star hotels where they have to reduce resources such as Cost of Employees and Material Costs. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the tourism industry worldwide. This study aims to understand the early effects of the pandemic on tourist supply and demand by analysing Airbnb's occupancy rates and accommodation prices at both city and neighborhood/district scales in Madrid and Valencia, two Spanish destinations with distinct tourism types. By considering both spatial and statistical analyses at different scales, this study provides valuable insights into the short-term impacts of COVID-19 on the tourism industry in these destinations. The findings reveal a spatial polarisation, with certain areas maintaining higher occupancy rates and prices, suggesting resilience to the crisis, particularly those near green spaces. The analysis further highlights varied effects of the pandemic across different months and neighborhoods/districts. While historic center neighborhoods experienced declines in both occupancy rates and prices, districts with a stronger tourist tradition showed greater resilience. Price rigidity is observed in some urban areas, where occupancy rates decline while prices remain relatively stable or even increase. Two key recommendations are underscored for decision makers: (1) regulating Airbnb should consider neighborhood-specific characteristics and differentiate between types of tourism, establishing minimum standards for housing conditions and the surrounding environment and (2) touristic cities should aim for a polycentric spatial structure by expanding and diversifying tourist areas, avoiding concentration in a single location.

Objective: To expose the most current and safe techniques for dental management in patients with oral cancer reported in the literature between 2018 - 2023. Materials and methods; It is considered a descriptive, qualitative research, with bibliographical research, descriptive of inductive, deductive, historical method, daring from Google Scholar, Scielo, PubMed and Elsevier search engines; that were published in the years from 2018 to 2023. Inclusion criteria; literature reported at most in the last 6 years, English, Spanish or Portuguese language, full text availability, studies conducted in both children and adults. Exclusion criteria; articles that did not agree on the research topic, description of the management of cancer patients during experimental therapies. Leaving twenty-three articles that meet the criteria set forth for its validity., Objetivo: Exponer las técnicas más actuales y seguras para el manejo odontológico en pacientes con cáncer reportadas en la literatura entre 2018 – 2023. Materiales y métodos: Se consideró una investigación de tipo descriptivo, cualitativa, con investigación bibliográfica, descriptiva de método inductivo, deductivos, histórico, a través de los buscadores Google Académico, Scielo, PubMed y Elsevier; que se publicaron en los últimos 20 años. Criterios de inclusión: Literatura reportada como máximo en los últimos 20 años, idioma inglés, español o portugués, disponibilidad de texto completo, estudios realizados tanto en niños como en adultos. Criterios de exclusión: Artículos que no estaban de acuerdo en el tema de la investigación, descripción del manejo de pacientes oncológicos durante terapias experimentales. Dejando 40 artículos que cumplen los criterios expuestos para su validez.

Introduction: botulinum toxin is a natural product of Clostridium botulinum, a Gram-positive bacillus, which forms spores to produce paralysis in the muscles, causing contractions almost permanently, relieving tension and improving the pain caused by bruxism, therefore the purpose The present study is to analyze the effectiveness of botulinum toxin in patients with bruxism. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive, and prospective study was carried out through a review of the literature published in different research societies. The search for articles began on the Pubmed, Mediline, Cochrane Library Plus website and in virtual libraries such as Google Academic and Scielo. The key words were “treatment of bruxism” “boutulinum toxin treatment of bruxism”. All searches were carried out in English and Spanish, selecting only published systematic reviews. Results: After the various sources used, from the first initial search for botulinum toxin as a treatment for bruxism, 112 articles were obtained. The results were organized in a table that has the most relevant information: the title of the articles, the year and the objective, Due to the interest of obtaining the most up-to-date knowledge, the search was limited to 6 years, obtaining only 49 results in the Pubmed search engine. Conclusions: Botulinum Toxin is a favorable treatment for Bruxism since it reduces the effects of chewing forces, pain and contraction of the TMJ, and also protects the orofacial structures caused by damage induced by bruxism., Introducción: la toxina botulínica es un producto natural del Clostridium botulinum, un bacilo Gram positivo, formador de esporas para producir parálisis en los músculos, provocando contracciones de forma casi permanente, aliviando la tensión y mejorando el dolor causado por el bruxismo por ende el propósito del presente estudio es analizar la efectividad de la toxina botulínica en pacientes con bruxismo. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, y prospectivo en donde se efectuó mediante revisión de la literatura, publicados en diferentes sociedades de investigación. Se empezó la búsqueda de artículos en el sitio web Pubmed, Mediline, Cochrane Library Plus y en bibliotecas virtuales como google académico y Scielo. Las palabras claves fueron “tratamiento de toxina Botulínica, bruxismo, toxina, neurotóxica”. Todas las búsquedas se realizaron en inglés y español, seleccionando únicamente revisiones sistemáticas publicadas. Resultados: Después de las diversas fuentes utilizadas, de la primera búsqueda inicial de la toxina botulínica como tratamiento del bruxismo se obtuvieron 112 artículos, los resultados se organizaron en una tabla que tiene la información más relevante el título de los artículos, el año y el objetivo, Debido al interés de obtener el conocimiento más actualizado se acoto la búsqueda a los 6 años, obteniendo únicamente en el buscador Pubmed 49 resultados Conclusión: La Toxina botulínica es un tratamiento favorable para el Bruxismo ya que reduce los efectos de las fuerzas masticatorias, el dolor y la contracción de la ATM, además protege las estructuras oro faciales provocadas del daño inducido por el bruxismo.

Introduction: When the functionality of the temporomandibular joint is affected, susceptibility to inflammatory dysfunctions arises, resulting in pain and reduced mandibular mobility. The objective of this article is to assess the available scientific evidence in the literature regarding the benefits of intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid, corticosteroids, and blood derivatives, with or without arthrocentesis. Materials and Methods: A literature review was conducted on publications between September 2018 and July 2023, using search strategies with key terms and a filter for articles within the last 5 years. Only systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses were considered. A total of 46 results were obtained from PubMed, and 65 results from Google Scholar. Results: A total of 111 articles were obtained, with 98 being excluded due to not meeting all search criteria, duplicates, or unrelated articles. This left 13 selected articles. The reviewed literature demonstrates that all injections in conjunction with arthrocentesis were able to reduce pain and improve maximum mouth opening in patients with temporomandibular disorders. Conclusions: The application of hyaluronic acid injections via arthrocentesis has proven to be effective in improving maximum mouth opening. Additionally, plasma with growth factors and platelet-rich plasma in combination with arthrocentesis show promising results in terms of pain reduction and rapid healing. Lastly, corticosteroids directly affect the articular cartilage and can, in the long term, lead to harmful effects, triggering a phenomenon known as chondrotoxicity., Introducción: Al verse afectada la función de la articulación temporomandibular se genera una susceptibilidad a disfunciones inflamatorias, que generan dolor y reducción de la movilidad mandibular. El objetivo de este artículo es evaluar la evidencia científica disponible en la literatura, sobre los beneficios del ácido hialurónico, corticosteroides y hemoderivados combinados mediante inyecciones intraarticulares con o sin artrocentesis. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una revisión de la literatura publicada entre septiembre de 2018 y julio del 2023, utilizando estrategias de búsqueda con los términos clave y filtros de 5 años de antigüedad y únicamente revisiones sistemáticas y/o meta-análisis, en PubMed se obtuvieron 46 resultados y en Google Académico se obtuvieron 65 resultados. Resultados: Se obtuvieron un total de 111 artículos, se excluyeron 98, siendo estos todos aquellos que no cubrieron todos los elementos de búsqueda, los duplicados y artículos sin relación, quedando seleccionados 13 artículos. La literatura revisada muestra que todas las inyecciones junto con la artrocentesis lograron reducir el dolor y mejorar la apertura máxima en pacientes con trastornos temporomandibulares. Conclusiones: La aplicación de inyecciones de ácido hialurónico mediante artrocentesis ha demostrado ser efectiva en la mejoría de apertura bucal máxima, también resalta el plasma con factores de crecimiento en el manejo de dolor y plasma rico en plaquetas en conjunto con la artrocentesis generan resultados prometedores en cuanto a la reducción de dolor y rápida cicatrización; por ultimo los corticosteroides afectan directamente al cartílago articular y a largo plazo pueden desencadenar efectos nocivos desencadenando un fenómeno conocido como condrotoxicidad.

Sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine are frequently used in endodontic treatments for the disinfection of root canals as established by the literature. The aim of this article is to conduct a comprehensive and up-to-date literature review on the comparison of the effectiveness of sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine in disinfecting endodontic canals, based on literature reported between 2017 and 2023. Scientific articles available in databases such as PubMed, Scielo, and Google Scholar were collected. The initial search yielded a total of 63 articles of interest. Fifty-three articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria for this article were discarded, leaving a total of 10 articles that met the established inclusion criteria. These articles were thoroughly reviewed and used in the development of this research paper. The reviewed literature indicates that both sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine show a high level of similarity in their effectiveness in disinfecting endodontic canals. Thus, the choice between sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine should be based on the specific clinical situation, the type of infection, and the patient's characteristics. Furthermore, the safe and effective use of any disinfection agent requires proper training and experience on the part of the endodontic professional., El hipoclorito de sodio y la clorhexidina son utilizados con frecuencia en tratamientos endodónticos para la desinfección de conductos radiculares en los diagnósticos establecidos por la literatura. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión bibliográfica exhaustiva y actualizada sobre la comparación de la efectividad del hipoclorito de sodio y la clorhexidina en la desinfección de conductos endodónticos, mediante una revisión de literatura reportada entre los años 2017 y 2023, donde se recopilaron artículos científicos disponibles en bases de datos como: PubMed, Scielo y Google Scholar. La búsqueda inicial arrojó un total de 63 artículos de interés. Se descartó 53 artículos que no cumplían con los criterios de inclusión del presente artículo, dejando un total de 10 artículos que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión establecidos, los cuales fueron artículos enfocados en denotar la efectividad del hipoclorito de sodio y clorhexidina como agentes de desinfección en conductos endodónticos. Estos artículos fueron revisados en su totalidad y se utilizaron en el desarrollo del presente trabajo de investigación. La literatura revisada nos muestra que, tanto el hipoclorito de sodio como la clorhexidina muestran tener una gran similitud en cuanto a su eficacia en la desinfección de conductos endodónticos. De esta manera, la elección entre el hipoclorito de sodio y la clorhexidina debe basarse en la situación clínica específica, el tipo de infección y las características del paciente. Además, el uso seguro y efectivo de cualquier agente de desinfección requiere una adecuada formación y experiencia por parte del profesional en endodoncia.

Objective: To determine the efficacy offered by immediate dentin sealing as a method of prevention against postoperative sensitivity in indirect restorations through a literary review in pubmed and google academic, between 2019 and 2023. Methodology: An investigation was proposed through a descriptive review. , where scientific articles published in different research societies dedicated to health were compiled. The search for articles began in the virtual platform Pubmed and later in virtual libraries such as academic google, the search was carried out using search keywords such as "immediate recipient sealing" and "postoperative sensitivity" and their equivalents in English. In the initial search, a total of 508 articles of interest were produced in English, Portuguese and Spanish, distributed 475 by Google Scholar and 33 by PubMed. Then we proceeded to discard 495 articles that did not comply with the relationship between the efficacy offered by immediate dentin sealing as a method of prevention against postoperative sensitivity in indirect restorations, and articles related to or with mention of sensitivity in indirect restorations, those were excluded. they did not cover search items, duplicates, as well as theses, monographs and articles that did not have full and free access. 13 articles that met the established inclusion criteria were selected, which were published between 2019 and 2023 and maintained their focus on the topic of interest. Conclusion: The reviewed literature shows that the execution of the SDI protocol offers to prevent postoperative sensitivity in indirect restorations., Objetivo: Determinar la eficacia que ofrece el sellado dentinario inmediato como método de prevención ante la sensibilidad post operatoria en restauraciones indirectas mediante una revisión literaria en pubmed y google académico, entre los años 2019 y 2023. Metodología: Se planteó una investigación mediante una revisión descriptiva, donde se recopilaron artículos científicos publicados en diferentes sociedades de investigación dedicadas a la salud. Se comenzó con la búsqueda de artículos en la plataforma virtual Pubmed y posteriormente en bibliotecas virtuales como google académico, se efectuó la búsqueda utilizando palabras claves de búsqueda como “sellado destinario inmediato” y “sensibilidad postoperatoria” y sus equivalentes en inglés. En la búsqueda inicial produjo un total de 508 artículos de interés tanto en idioma inglés, portugués y español, distribuidos 475 google académico y 33 en pubmed. Luego se procedió a descartar 495 artículos que no cumplían con la relación entre la eficacia que ofrece el sellado dentinario inmediato como método de prevención ante la sensibilidad post operatoria en restauraciones indirectas, e artículos relacionados o con mención a sensibilidad en restauraciones indirectas, se excluyeron aquellos que no cubrieron los elementos de búsqueda, duplicados, así como tesis, monografías y artículos que no tenía un acceso completo y libre. Se seleccionaron 13 artículos que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión establecidos, los cuales fueron publicados entre los años 2019 y 2023 y mantenían su enfoque en el tema de interés. Conclusión: La literatura revisada muestra que la ejecución del protocolo SDI ofrece prevenir la sensibilidad postoperatoria en restauraciones indirectas.

Purpose: Define a simple and efficient method to allocate costs and benefits in energy communities, and characterize some of its key properties. Design/methodology/approach: The approach is theoretical. We define an algorithm to allocate costs and benefits in energy communities, and derive some of its formal properties using mathematical reasoning. We also compare the proposed algorithm with several alternatives. Findings: The proposed algorithm is simple and it ensures that the resulting distribution of costs and benefits is (i) beneficial for every member of the community, (ii) efficient, (iii) fair (in a formally defined sense), (iv) smooth (small changes in the consumption or in the generation of energy cannot lead to big changes in the allocation of costs and benefits), and (v) environmentally friendly in the sense that the individual allocated cost is a strictly increasing function of individual consumption. Research limitations/implications: The properties of the proposed algorithm are satisfied for a specific type of energy community that is defined in the manuscript. Practical implications: The algorithm is easy to implement in any energy community. Social implications: The algorithm is highly relevant for any community of prosumers who are willing to exchange energy internally. It guarantees a number of desirable properties that are formally defined in the paper. El congreso busca poner en valor las investigaciones del talento joven, que se encuentra inmerso en sus primeros trabajos relacionados con la innovación, la digitalización, la ciencia de datos o la inteligencia artificial. Con ello se pretende dar visibilidad a la investigación novel, compartir conocimientos y fomentar colaboraciones entre estudiantes, profesores y grupos de investigación.

Introduction: prevention within health-disease processes is basic when it comes to achieving improvements in the health of a community. Objective: to present the community outreach activities carried out by the students of the dentistry program at the Hemisferios University in the community of Cosanga, Napo Ecuador, from 2021 to 2023. Materials and methods: 4 visits were made to the community in which A survey of the oral health of the population was carried out, and education and prevention activities were carried out on the most common diseases, dental caries and periodontal disease. Results: the articulated and planned activities carried out, integrating the community, allowed for creating a link between the benefited community and the students participating in them. Conclusions: The actions carried out during the years 2021 to 2023 allowed the student to be motivated in community service actions and the benefited population not only to receive education, preventive and diagnostic procedures, but also to be empowered by the importance of maintaining their health and understanding the importance of working together to obtain a satisfactory result, Introducción: la prevención dentro de los procesos de salud enfermedad es básica cuando se trata de conseguir mejoras en la salud de una comunidad. Resultados: las actividades realizadas articuladas y planificadas, integrando a la comunidad, permitieron crear un nexo entre la comunidad beneficiada y los estudiantes participantes de ellas. Conclusiones: Las acciones ejecutadas durante los años 2021 al 2023 permitieron, motivar al estudiante en las acciones de servicio comunitario y a la población beneficiada no solo recibir educación, procedimientos preventivos y de diagnóstico, si no empoderarse de la importancia de mantener su salud y comprender la importancia de trabajar en conjunto para poder obtener un resultado satisfactorio
