Using algebraic methods the Neveu-Schwarz fermionic matter sliver is constructed. Inspirited by the wedge algebra two equations for the sliver, linear and quadratic, are considered. It is shown that both equations give the same nontrivial answer. The sliver is considered also using CFT methods where it is defined as the limit of the wedge states in the NS sector of the superstring.

The matter part of the open string superstar is identified with the continuous Moyal product of functions of anti-commuting variables by diagonalizing the three-string vertex and using a special coordinate representation. We show that in this representation the identity and the sliver have a simple form.

We consider a quantum theory of noncommutative selfinteracting complex scalar field as well as noncommutative analogs of scalar electrodynamics and N =2 D=4 SUSY Yang–Mills theory and prove their one-loop renormalizability. Noncommutative scalar field theory and scalar electrodynamics with general values of coupling constants suffer from non-integrable IR singularities. We find that for a special ratio of coupling constants these IR singularities vanish. Also we show that IR poles are absent in noncommutative N =2 SUSY gauge theory.

We consider the classical and quantum dynamics in M(atrix) theory. Using a simple ansatz we show that a classical trajectory exhibits a chaotic motion. We argue that the holographic feature of M(atrix) theory is related with the repulsive feature of energy eigenvalues in quantum chaotic system. Chaotic dynamics in N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is also discussed. We demonstrate that after the separation of "slow" and "fast" modes there is a singular contribution from the "slow" modes to the Hamiltonian of the "fast" modes., Latex, 14 pages, 8 eps.figs.,the ansatz for the SU(3) group is considered, refs are added

We discuss the analogy between soliton scattering in quantum field theory and black hole/wormholes (BH/WH) production in ultrarelativistic particle collisions in gravity. It is a common wisdom of the current paradigm suggests that BH/WH formation in particles collisions will happen when a center-mass energy of colliding particles is sufficiently above the Planck scale (the transplanckian region) and the BH/WH production can be estimated by the classical geometrical cross section. We compare the background of this paradigm with the functional integral method to scattering amplitudes and, in particular, we stress the analogy of the BH production in collision of ultrarelativistic particle and appearance of breathers poles in the scattering amplitudes in the Sin–Gordon model.

All possible graded Poisson–Lie structures on the external algebra of SL(2) are described. We prove that differential Poisson–Lie structures prolonging the Sklyanin brackets do not exist on SL(2). There are two and only two graded Poisson–Lie structures on SL(2) and neither of them can be obtained by a reduction of graded Poisson–Lie structures on the external algebra of GL(2). Both of them can be quantized and as a result we get new graded algebras of quantum right‐invariant forms on SLq(2) with three generators.

Classical versions of the Big Bang cosmological models of the universe contain a singularity at the start of time, hence the time variable in the field equations should run over a half-line. Nonlocal string field theory equations with infinite number of derivatives are considered and an important difference between nonlocal operators on the whole real line and on a half-line is pointed out. We use the heat equation method and show that on the half-line in addition to the usual initial data a new arbitrary function (external source) occurs that we call the daemon function. The daemon function governs the evolution of the universe similar to Maxwell`s demon in thermodynamics. The universe and multiverse are open systems interacting with the daemon environment. In the simplest case the nonlocal scalar field reduces to the usual local scalar field coupled with an external source which is discussed in the stochastic approach to inflation. The daemon source can help to get the chaotic inflation scenario with a small scalar field., Comment: LATEX, 31 pages, Sect. "Inflation and External Sources" and refs. are added

To study the behavior of the Kazakov-Migdal at large N the quenched momentum prescription with constraints for treating the large N limit of gauge theories is used. It is noted that it leads to a quartic dependence of an action on unitary matrix instead of a quadratic dependence discussed in previous considerations. Therefore the model is not exactly solvable in the weak coupling limit. An approximation procedure for investigation of the model is outlined. Scattering amplitudes for discrete states in 2D string theory are considered. Pole divergences of tree-level amplitudes are observed and residues are interpreted as renormalized amplitudes for discrete states. An effective Lagrangian generating renormalized amplitudes for open string is obtained and the corresponding Ward identities are presented. A relation of this Lagrangian with homotopy Lie algebra is discussed.

Simple analytic solution to cubic Neveu-Schwarz String Field Theory including the $GSO(-)$ sector is presented. This solution is an analog of the Erler-Schnabl solution for bosonic case and one of the authors solution for the pure $GSO(+)$ case. Gauge transformations of the new solution to others known solutions for the $NS$ string tachyon condensation are constructed explicitly. This gauge equivalence manifestly supports the early observed fact that these solutions have the same value of the action density., Comment: 8 pages, LaTex

String field theory for 2D gravity coupled to a c=1 matter field is described. We use the free field representation and take into account the semi-bounded of the Liouville mode in the last step of calculations. We call such representation semi-free field representation. It is shown that the Witten string field theory gives a tachyon action which up to some, factor in the interaction term coincides with the Das-Jevicki-Polchinski action. Starting from string field theory with semi-free field representation we calculate string amplitudes. These amplitudes instead of energy conservation δ-functions contain energy denominators which residues coincide with the Veneziano (Shapiro-Virasoro) amplitudes for open (closed) string and exhibit very interesting property: the s, t and u poles become the poles in respect to individual external momentum. These poles are related with higher levels excitations living only with fixed momentum.

The stability of isotropic cosmological solutions in the Bianchi I model is considered. We prove that the stability of isotropic solutions in the Bianchi I metric for a positive Hubble parameter follows from their stability in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric. This result is applied to models inspired by string field theory, which violate the null energy condition. Examples of stable isotropic solutions are presented. Recent results on solutions to the equation of motion of the cubic fermionic string field theory and an equivalence of non-polynomial and cubic string field theories are discussed. To have a possibility to deal with both GSO(+) and GSO(-) sectors in the uniform way a matrix formulation for the NS fermionic SFT is used. In constructions of analytical solutions to open string field theories truncated pure gauge configurations parameterized by wedge states play an essential role. The matrix form of this parametrization for the NS fermionic SFT is presented. Using the cubic open superstring field theory as an example we demonstrate explicitly that for the large parameter of the perturbation expansion these truncated pure gauge configurations give divergent contributions to the equation of motion on the subspace of the wedge states. The perturbation expansion is cured by adding extra terms that are nothing but the terms necessary for the equation of motion contracted with the solution itself to be satisfied., 15 pages, Latex, Expanded version of a lecture given at the Conference on Liouville Quantum Gravity and Statistical Systems, in honor of Alexei Zamolodchikov, Poncelet Institute, Moscow, June, 2008; refs.corrected

Solutions of the Cauchy problem for the wave equation on a non-globally hyperbolic spacetime, which contains closed timelike curves (time machines) are considered. It is proved, that there exists a solution of the Cauchy problem, it is discontinuous and in some sense unique for arbitrary initial conditions, which are given on a hypersurface at time, that precedes the formation of closed timelike curves (CTC). If the hypersurface of initial conditions intersects the region containing CTC, then the solution of the Cauchy problem exists only for such initial conditions, that satisfy a certain requirement of self-consistency., 12 pages

In constructions of analytical solutions to open string field theories pure gauge configurations parameterized by wedge states play an essential role. These pure gauge configurations are constructed as perturbation expansions and to guaranty that these configurations are asymptotical solutions to equations of motions one needs to study convergence of the perturbation expansions. We demonstrate that for the large parameter of the perturbation expansion these pure gauge truncated configurations give divergent contributions to the equation of motion on the subspace of the wedge states. We perform this demonstration numerically for the pure gauge configurations related to tachyon solutions for the bosonic and the NS fermionic SFT. By the numerical calculations we also show that the perturbation expansions are cured by adding extra terms. These terms are nothing but the terms necessary to make valued the Sen conjectures., Comment: 30 pages, 9 figures, references added and conclusion extended

The stability of isotropic cosmological solutions for two-field models in the Bianchi I metric is considered. We prove that the sufficient conditions for the Lyapunov stability in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric provide the stability with respect to anisotropic perturbations in the Bianchi I metric and with respect to the cold dark matter energy density fluctuations. Sufficient conditions for the Lyapunov stability of the isotropic fixed points of the system of the Einstein equations have been found. We use the superpotential method to construct stable kink-type solutions and obtain sufficient conditions on the superpotential for the Lyapunov stability of the corresponding exact solutions. A new approach to the wave function of the universe is suggested. The key idea is to take into account fluctuating number fields and present the wave function in the form of a Euler product. For this purpose we define a p-adic generalization of both classical and quantum gravitational theory. Elements of p-adic differential geometry are described. The action and gravitation field equations over the p-adic number field are investigated. p-adic analogs of some known solutions to the Einstein equations are presented. It follows that in quantum cosmology one should consider summation only over algebraic manifolds. The correspondence principle with the standard approach is considered.

The classical and quantum mechanics on the quantum plane are discussed. They correspond to q-deformation and h -q- deformations of the usual mechanics, respectively. A particle on the quantum line as the simplest example of such a kind of system is investigated in more detail. A new phenomenon occurs even for the free particle, namely, the mass for a free particle on the quantum line is not a number but a non-commutative element. Some relations between q-deformed quantum mechanics and p-adic quantum mechanics are also presented.

We analyze possible ground states for the covariant string field theory action of the open NSR-superstring. A remarkable feature of this action is that it possesses a rich set of the auxiliary local fields. We found that some of low-lying scalar auxiliary fields acquire non-zero vacuum expectation values providing a new mechanism for supersymmetry breaking. The gauge vector field become massive while the physical spinor remains massless, thus the supersymmetry is broken in the non-perturbative vacuum.

Gauge fields models with quantum groups playing the role of gauge groups are discussed. An appropriate description of the quantum group SU q(2) is presented. The exponential map for this quantum group is constructed and it is shown that it can be parametrized by elements of quantum superplane. Some applications including quantum group chiral fields are briefly considered. In particular, a solution of the SU q(2) WZNW model is presented and an infinite number of conserved currents for the 2-dimensional quantum group chiral field is constructed.

It is noted that an auxiliary matrix model which has appeared in recent works on non-perturbative two-dimensional gravity can be considered as a lattice version of Witten's string field theory. We consider the string field theory on a D -dimensional lattice and obtain that for the simplest interaction it is equivalent to a scalar matrix field model on the lattice with local gauge invariance. We investigate the matrix model in the large N limit using the quenched prescription for D >1 and argue the existence of a spinglass-like phase in the string theory.

We modify Witten's action for the NSR superstring. Our proposal is based on the use of new “double-step” picture-changing operators. The modified action, in contrast to Witten's, generates N -point tree-level amplitudes which agree with the Koba-Nielsen amplitudes. The action is gauge invariant without any reference to a regularization and manifestly space-time supersymmetric. The algebra of the gauge transformations is closed and the classical equations of motion do not contain any picture-changing insertions.

In the framework of the background formalism we analyse possible versions of the Witten-type NSR superstring field theory. We find the picture for string fields to be uniquely fixed by the requirement that the perturbative classical solutions are well-defined. This uniquely defined picture and the corresponding action are different from the ones in Witten's theory and coincide with the ones proposed from different reasons in our previous paper. Following the same background method we calculate the tree-level scattering amplitudes for the new action and argue that in contrast to the ones in Witten's original theory, the amplitudes are singularity-free and hence there is no need to add any tree-level counterterms. We also prove the amplitudes to reproduce correctly the first quantized results.

A general class of cosmological models driven by a non-local scalar field inspired by string field theories is studied. In particular cases the scalar field is a string dilaton or a string tachyon. A distinguished feature of these models is a crossing of the phantom divide. We reveal the nature of this phenomena showing that it is caused by an equivalence of the initial non-local model to a model with an infinite number of local fields some of which are ghosts. Deformations of the model that admit exact solutions are constructed. These deformations contain locking potentials that stabilize solutions. We explore a possibility for the Universe to cross the $w=\ensuremath{-}1$ cosmological constant barrier for the dark energy state parameter. We consider the Universe as a slowly decaying D3-brane. The D3-brane dynamics are approximately described by a nonlocal string tachyon interaction and the backreaction of gravity is incorporated in the closed string tachyon dynamics. In a local effective approximation this model contains one phantom component and one usual field with a simple polynomial interaction. To understand cosmological properties of this system we study toy models with the same scalar fields but with modified interactions. These modifications admit polynomial superpotentials. We find restrictions on these interactions under which it is possible to reach $w=\ensuremath{-}1$ from below at large time. Explicit solutions with the dark energy state parameter crossing or not crossing the barrier $w=\ensuremath{-}1$ at large time are presented.

Cosmological consequences of adding the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) to the exactly solvable stringy Dark Energy (DE) model are investigated. The model is motivated by the consideration of our Universe as a slowly decaying D3-brane. The decay of this D-brane is described in the String Field Theory framework. Stability conditions of the exact solution with respect to small fluctuations of the initial value of the CDM energy density are found. Solutions with large initial value of the CDM energy density attracted by the exact solution without CDM are constructed numerically. In contrast to the LambdaCDM model the Hubble parameter in the model is not a monotonic function of time. For specific initial data the DE state parameter w_{DE} is also not monotonic function of time. For these cases there are two separate regions of time where w_{DE} being less than -1 is close to -1., 15 pages, 6 figures; references added

In this lecture notes we explain and discuss some ideas concerning noncommutative geometry in general, as well as noncommutative field theories and string field theories. We consider noncommutative quantum field theories emphasizing an issue of their renormalizability and the UV/IR mixing. Sen's conjectures on open string tachyon condensation and their application to the D-brane physics have led to wide investigations of the covariant string field theory proposed by Witten about 15 years ago. We review main ingredients of cubic (super)string field theories using various formulations: functional, operator, conformal and the half string formalisms. The main technical tools that are used to study conjectured D-brane decay into closed string vacuum through the tachyon condensation are presented. We describe also methods which are used to study the cubic open string field theory around the tachyon vacuum: construction of the sliver state, ``comma'' and matrix representations of vertices., 160 pages, LaTeX, 29 EPS figures. In the framework of the Sen conjectures a construction of vacuum superstring field theory on a non-BPS brane is discussed. A distinguished feature of this theory is a presence of a ghost kinetic operator mixing GSO+/- sectors. A candidate for such kinetic operator with zero cohomology is discussed., Comment: expression for the pure ghost kinetic operator corrected, Comments added; 21 pages, 1 figure, LaTeX 2e

The gauge invariance of cubic open superstring field theory is considered in a framework of level truncation, and applications to the tachyon condensation problem are discussed. As it is known, in the bosonic case the Feynman-Siegel gauge is not universal within the level truncation method. We explore another gauge that is more suitable for calculation of the tachyon potential for fermionic string at level (2,6). We show that this new gauge has no restrictions on the region of its validity at least at this level., Comment: 21 pages, 2 figures, LaTeX 2e; references added, typos corrected

A globally consistent treatment of linearized gravity in the Randall-Sundrum background with matter on the brane is formulated. Using a novel gauge, in which the transverse components of the metric are non-vanishing, the brane is kept straight. We analyze the gauge symmetries and identify the physical degrees of freedom of gravity. Our results underline the necessity for non-gravitational confinement of matter to the brane., Comment: 15 pages

We study the spectrum of SU(2) x SO(2) matrix supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We use angular coordinates that allow us to find an explicit solution of the Gauss law constraints and single out the quantum number n (the Lorentz angular momentum). Energy levels are four-fold degenerate with respect to n and are labeled by n_q, the largest n in a quartet. The Schr\"odinger equation is reduced to two different systems of two-dimensional partial differential equations. The choice of a system is governed by n_q. We present the asymptotic solutions for the systems deriving thereby the asymptotic formula for the spectrum. Odd n_q are forbidden, for even n_q the spectrum has a continuous part as well as a discrete one, meanwhile for half-integer n_q the spectrum is purely discrete. Taking half-integer n_q one can cure the model from instability caused by the presence of continuous spectrum., Comment: 29 pages, 5 figures

It is shown by Connes, Douglas and Schwarz that gauge theory on noncommutative torus describes compactifications of M-theory to tori with constant background three-form field. This indicates that noncommutative gauge theories on more general manifolds also can be useful in string theory. We discuss a framework to noncommutative quantum gauge theory on Poisson manifolds by using the deformation quantization. The Kontsevich formula for the star product was given originally in terms of the perturbation expansion and it leads to a non-renormalizable quantum field theory. We discuss the nonperturbative path integral formulation of Cattaneo and Felder as a possible approach to construction of noncommutative quantum gauge theory on Poisson manifolds. Some other aspects of classical and quantum noncommutative field theory are also discussed., Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures. Invited lecture given by I.V. Non-extremal overlapping p-brane supergravity solutions localised in their relative transverse coordinates are constructed. The construction uses an algebraic method of solving the bosonic equations of motion. It is shown that these non-extremal solutions can be obtained from the extremal solutions by means of the superposition of two deformation functions defined by vacuum solutions of M-theory. Vacuum solutions of M-theory including irrational powers of harmonic functions are discussed., Comment: LaTeX, 16 pages, no figures, typos corrected

We discuss classical composite p-brane solutions and their quantization using the conjecture that their fluctuations may be described via degrees of freedom of Dirichlet strings ended on these p-branes. We work with Dirichlet (super)strings in framework of string field theory for open (super)strings. To elaborate in this scheme the eleventh dimension modes we take just a collection of Dirichlet strings which in their middle points have jumps in eleventh dimension. This theory can be seen as string field theory in infinite momentum frame of an eleven dimensional object., 7 pages, LaTex. Lecture at the XXXIII Karpacz Winter School "Duality -- String and Fields"

Non-extremal intersecting p-brane solutions of gravity coupled with several antisymmetric fields and dilatons in various space-time dimensions are constructed. The construction uses the same algebraic method of finding solutions as in the extremal case and a modified "no-force" conditions. We justify the "deformation" prescription. It is shown that the non-extremal intersecting p-brane solutions satisfy harmonic superposition rule and the intersections of non-extremal p-branes are specified by the same characteristic equations for the incidence matrices as for the extremal p-branes. We show that S-duality holds for non-extremal p-brane solutions. Generalized T-duality takes place under additional restrictions to the parameters of the theory which are the same as in the extremal case., Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX

Recently it was shown that an asymptotic behaviour of $SU(N)$ gauge theory for large $N$ is described by q-deformed quantum field. The master fields for large N theories satisfy to standard equations of relativistic field theory but fields satisfy $q$-deformed commutation relations with $q=0$. These commutation relations are realized in the Boltzmannian Fock space. The master field for gauge theory does not take values in a finite-dimensional Lie algebra however there is a non-Abelian gauge symmetry. The gauge master field for a subclass of planar diagrams, so called half-planar diagrams, is also considered. A recursive set of master fields summing up a matreoshka of 2-particles reducible planar diagrams is briefly described.

Starting from string field theory for 2d gravity coupled to c=1 matter we analyze N-point off-shell tree amplitudes of discrete states. The amplitudes exhibit the pole structure and we use the oscillator representation to extract the residues. The residues are generated by a simple effective action. We show that the effective action can be directly deduced from a string field action in a special transversal-like gauge., 12 pages, latex, 1 figure

The master fields for the large $N$ limit of matrix models and gauge theory are constructed. The master fields satisfy to standard equations of relativistic field theory but fields are quantized according to a new rule. To define the master field we use the Yang-Feldman equation with a free field quantized in the Boltzmannian Fock space. The master field for gauge theory does not take values in a finite-dimensional Lie algebra however there is a non-Abelian gauge symmetry. For the construction of the master field it is essential to work in Minkowski space-time and to use the Wightman correlation functions. The BRST quantization of the master field for gauge theory and a loop equation are considered., Comment: More comments about a new gauge theory and more references are added, 14 pages, latex
