58. Anti-inflammatory diet reduces risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease among US adults: a nationwide survey.

Abstract

Background: While dietary intervention was an important public health strategy for the prevention and intervention of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), the effect of diet-induced inflammation on MAFLD has not been studied in detail. Therefore, we aimed to analyze the relationship between dietary inflammatory index (DII) and MAFLD. Methods: This study included data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017–2018. MAFLD was diagnosed based on the presence of hepatic steatosis, as determined by transient elastography, along with evidence of either overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or metabolic dysfunction. DII was calculated using 27 dietary components collected through 24-hour dietary recall questionnaire. Weighted logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between DII and MAFLD and its main components in three different models. Subgroup analyses were performed by age, sex, and alcohol use. Results: A total of 1991 participants were included, and the MAFLD group had higher DII scores. After adjusting for age, sex, race, physical activity, smoking status, and alcohol use, the highest quartile of DII was associated with increased risk of MAFLD (OR:2.90, 95% CIs: 1.46, 5.75). Overweight/obesity, central obesity, low high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and high C-reactive protein (CRP) also shared the same characteristics in the main components of MAFLD. Results were consistent across subgroups (age, sex, and alcohol use). Conclusions: A higher DII diet was positively associated with the risk of MAFLD in American adults, particularly as related to overweight/obesity, central obesity, high CRP level, and low HDL-C level. Abstract

The academic field has limited studies on implementing nature-based solutions (NbSs) in Chinese agriculture, especially regarding households' and farmers' attitudes toward the acceptance of agricultural NbS technologies. Based on this, this study aims to fill this knowledge gap by examining the factors behind farmers' agricultural practices of NbS adoption in Northeast China. Accordingly, this paper constructs an extended theoretical framework of planned behavior (TPB) and empirically tests it using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on data from 298 farmers in Inner Mongolia. It was found that incorporating institutional trust (IT) into TPB improves the prediction of Chinese farmers' intention to de-farm behavior. Unlike previous studies, this study identified two indirect pathways influencing farmers' intention to adopt agricultural NbS technologies: from institutional trust through attitude to intention, and from institutional trust through perceived behavioral control to intention. The findings broaden the research perspective in this area, provide empirical evidence for the application of NbSs in agricultural practices in China and other developing countries, and demonstrate in practice that NbS has been promoted as an essential tool to maximize nature's ability to provide ecosystem services and create direct economic benefits for farmers through increased yields and reduced costs. Abstract

Glucocorticoids are often used and highly effective anti-inflammatory medications, but prolonged topical application may alter the epidermis' normal structure and function, potentially resulting in a number of adverse effects. Topical glucocorticoid-induced skin inflammation is a dangerous condition that develops after topical glucocorticoid use. The patients become dependent on the medication and, even after the medication is stopped, the dermatitis symptoms recur, severely impairing their quality of life. Thus, the need to aggressively confront Topical glucocorticoid-induced skin inflammation is critical. Prior research has demonstrated that topical administration of licorice's flavonoid component liquiritin stimulates epidermal proliferation, which in turn enhances the creation of collagen and the healing of wounds. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to determine if topical use of liquiritin carbomer gel can treat glucocorticoid-induced changes in mice skin epidermal function, and the mechanisms involved. The findings demonstrated that, in the mice model of topical glucocorticoid-induced skin inflammation, liquiritin carbomer gel aided in the restoration of skin barrier function. These outcomes may have been caused by enhanced expression of the proteins Aquaporin 3, Keratin 10, and Claudin-1, as well as the restoration of epidermal hyaluronan content. In the meantime, liquiritin carbomer gel dramatically decreased the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IFN-γ, and IgE in mice, according to ELISA tests. Furthermore, topical treatment of liquiritin carbomer gel boosted the expression of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and decreased malondialdehyde expression, potentially counteracting the detrimental effects of glucocorticoids on the epidermis. In summary, these findings imply that topical liquiritin carbomer gel can treat glucocorticoid-induced skin damage through various mechanisms of action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
