Abstract

Black phosphorene has attracted much attention as a semiconducting two‐dimensional material. Violet phosphorus is another layered semiconducting phosphorus allotrope with unique electronic and optoelectronic properties. However, no confirmed violet crystals or reliable lattice structure of violet phosphorus had been obtained. Now, violet phosphorus single crystals were produced and the lattice structure has been obtained by single‐crystal x‐ray diffraction to be monoclinic with space group of P2/n (13) (a=9.210, b=9.128, c=21.893 Å, β=97.776°). The lattice structure obtained was confirmed to be reliable and stable. The optical band gap of violet phosphorus is around 1.7 eV, which is slightly larger than the calculated value. The thermal decomposition temperature was 52 °C higher than its black phosphorus counterpart, which was assumed to be the most stable form. Violet phosphorene was easily obtained by both mechanical and solution exfoliation under ambient conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

90. MoS2nanorods with inner caves through synchronous encapsulation of sulfur for high performance Li–S cathodes

Abstract

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries have become one of the most promising candidates for next-generation batteries owing to their high specific capacity, low cost, and environment-friendliness. Many efforts have been made to mitigate the “shuttle effect” through physical adsorption and chemical bonding. MoS2has been proposed as a cathode material to provide effective anchoring sites for lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), but is still limited by its layer structure. Herein, we designed novel MoS2nanorods with inner caves based on our previous work, and performed synchronous encapsulation of sulfur during the synthesis process. The outer MoS2tubular shells physically inhibit the outward diffusion of polysulfide species while the inner particles chemically anchor the polysulfides to prevent shuttling. As the cathode matrix in Li–S batteries, the electrochemical results deliver a high initial discharge capacity of 1213 mAh g−1for sulfur at 0.1 C. After cycling at 1 C for 300 cycles, the cells exhibit a capacity decay of only 0.076% per cycle and high average coulombic efficiency over 95%. The tubular MoS2structure is an innovative and appealing design, which could be regarded as a prospective substrate for the improved performance of Li–S batteries.

Abstract

The special interactions with NO2 make MoS2 promising sensors. Effective gas adsorption and active sites of MoS2 are crucial for high performance sensors. However, studies of the interactions of MoS2 with gas have been focused on the physisorption of basal planes. In this article, chemisorption modes, with O,O‐bidentate or N‐monodentate bonding, on the (1–1 0) surfaces of MoS2 structures have been explored in addition to physisorption. The active sites of MoS2 nanosensors have been predicted to be edge sites of (1–1 0) surfaces and further confirmed by the different sensing performances of vertically and parallelly aligned MoS2 hybrids. Chemisorption mode with N‐monodentate bonding has also been calculated to be effective for MoS2 nanosensors by a two‐probe system simulation and further confirmed by in‐situ Raman and in‐situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform experiments.
