The CRISPR/Cas system has been long known to interfere with the acquisition of foreign genetic elements and was recommended as a tool for fighting antimicrobial resistance. The current study aimed to explore the prevalence of the CRISPR/Cas system in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates recovered from patients in Egypt in comparison to global strains and correlate the CRISPR/Cas to susceptibility to antimicrobial agents. A total of 181 clinical isolates were PCR-screened for cas and selected antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs). In parallel, 888 complete genome sequences were retrieved from the NCBI database for in silico analysis. CRISPR/Cas was found in 46 (25.4%) isolates, comprising 18.8% type I-E and 6.6% type I-E*. Multidrug resistance (MDR) and extensive drug resistance (XDR) were found in 73.5% and 25.4% of the isolates, respectively. More than 95% of the CRISPR/Cas-bearing isolates were MDR (65.2%) or XDR (32.6%). No significant difference was found in the susceptibility to the tested antimicrobial agents among the CRISPR/Cas-positive and -negative isolates. The same finding was obtained for the majority of the screened ARGs. Among the published genomes, 23.2% carried CRISPR/Cas, with a higher share of I-E* (12.8%). They were confined to specific sequence types (STs), most commonly ST147, ST23, ST15, and ST14. More plasmids and ARGs were carried by the CRISPR/Cas-negative group than others, but their distribution in the two groups was not significantly different. The prevalence of some ARGs, such as blaKPC, blaTEM, and rmtB, was significantly higher among the genomes of the CRISPR/Cas-negative strains. A weak, nonsignificant positive correlation was found between the number of spacers and the number of resistance plasmids and ARGs. In conclusion, the correlation between CRISPR/Cas and susceptibility to antimicrobial agents or bearing resistance plasmids and ARGs was found to be nonsignificant. Plasmid-targeting spacers might not be naturally captured by CRISPR/Cas. Over the last ten years, there has been a growing interest in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which are a unique category of porous materials that combine organic and inorganic components. MOFs have garnered significant attention due to their highly favorable characteristics, such as environmentally friendly nature, enhanced surface area and pore volume, hierarchical arrangements, and adjustable properties, as well as their versatile applications in fields such as chemical engineering, materials science, and the environmental and biomedical sectors. This article centers on examining the advancements in using MOFs for environmental remediation purposes. Additionally, it discusses the latest developments in employing MOFs as potential tools for disease diagnosis and drug delivery across various ailments, including cancer, diabetes, neurological disorders, and ocular diseases. Firstly, a concise overview of MOF evolution and the synthetic techniques employed for creating MOFs are provided, presenting their advantages and limitations. Subsequently, the challenges, potential avenues, and perspectives for future advancements in the utilization of MOFs in the respective application domains are addressed. Hematophagous female mosquitoes are important vectors of numerous devastating human diseases, posing a major public health threat. Effective prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases rely considerably on progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms of various life activities, and accordingly, the molecules that regulate the various life activities of mosquitoes are potential targets for implementing future vector control strategies. Many long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified in mosquitoes and significant progress has been made in determining their functions. Here, we present a comprehensive overview of the research advances on mosquito lncRNAs, including their molecular identification, function, and interaction with other non-coding RNAs, as well as their synergistic regulatory roles in mosquito life activities. We also highlight the potential roles of competitive endogenous RNAs in mosquito growth and development, as well as in insecticide resistance and virus-host interactions. The estimation of forestry parameters is essential to understanding the three-dimensional structure of forests. In this respect, the potential of X-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been recognized for years. Many studies have been conducted on deriving tree heights with SAR data, but few have paid attention to the effects of the canopy structure. Canopy density plays an important role since it provides information about the vertical distribution of dominant scatterers in the forest. In this study, the position of the scattering phase center (SPC) of interferometric X-band SAR data is investigated with regard to the densest vegetation layer in a deciduous and coniferous forest in Germany by applying a canopy density index from high-resolution airborne laser scanning data. Two different methods defining the densest layer are introduced and compared with the position of the TanDEM-X SPC. The results indicate that the position of the SPC often coincides with the densest layer, with mean differences ranging from −1.6 m to +0.7 m in the deciduous forest and +1.9 m in the coniferous forest. Regarding relative tree heights, the SAR signal on average penetrates up to 15% (3.4 m) of the average tree height in the coniferous forest. In the deciduous forest, the difference increases to 18% (6.2 m) during summer and 24% (8.2 m) during winter. These findings highlight the importance of considering not only tree height but also canopy density when delineating SAR-based forest heights. The vertical structure of the canopy influences the position of the SPC, and incorporating canopy density can improve the accuracy of SAR-derived forest height estimations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rise of antimicrobial resistance is a global challenge that requires a coordinated effort to address. In this study, we examined the genetic similarity of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) in countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to gain a better understanding of how these bacteria are spreading and evolving in the region. We used in silico genomic tools to investigate the occurrence and prevalence of different types of carbapenemases and their relationship to specific sequence types (STs) of CRKP commonly found in the region. We analyzed 720 publicly available genomes of multi-drug resistant K. pneumoniae isolates collected from six GCC countries between 2011 and 2020. Our findings showed that ST-14 and ST-231 were the most common STs, and 51.7% of the isolates carried blaOXA-48-like genes. Additionally, we identified rare carbapenemase genes in a small number of isolates. We observed a clonal outbreak of ST-231 in Oman, and four Saudi isolates were found to have colistin resistance genes. Our study offers a comprehensive overview of the genetic diversity and resistance mechanisms of CRKP isolates in the GCC region that could aid in developing targeted interventions to combat this pressing global issue. Land cover data are important basic data for earth system science and other fields. Multi-source remote sensing images have become the main data source for land cover classification. There are still many uncertainties in the scale effect of image spatial resolution on land cover classification. Since it is difficult to obtain multiple spatial resolution remote sensing images of the same area at the same time, the main current method to study the scale effect of land cover classification is to use the same image resampled to different resolutions, however errors in the resampling process lead to uncertainty in the accuracy of land cover classification. To study the land cover classification scale effect of different spatial resolutions of multi-source remote sensing data, we selected 1 m and 4 m of GF-2, 6 m of SPOT-6, 10 m of Sentinel-2, and 30 m of Landsat-8 multi-sensor data, and explored the scale effect of image spatial resolution on land cover classification from two aspects of mixed image element decomposition and spatial heterogeneity. For the study area, we compared the classification obtained from GF-2, SPOT-6, Sentinel-2, and Landsat-8 images at different spatial resolutions based on GBDT and RF. The results show that (1) GF-2 and SPOT-6 had the best classification results, and the optimal scale based on this classification accuracy was 4–6 m; (2) the optimal scale based on linear decomposition depended on the study area; (3) the optimal scale of land cover was related to spatial heterogeneity, i.e., the more fragmented and complex was the space, the smaller the scale needed; and (4) the resampled images were not sensitive to scale and increased the uncertainty of the classification. The number of clinical trials conducted in patients with atopic dermatitis is increasing steadily. These trials are conducted in several countries across all continents and include patients of different ethnicity, race and skin color. This diversity is desired, but it also brings challenges, including the diagnosis and evaluation of disease severity in patients with different skin colors; the influence of ethnicity on the perception of quality of life and patient reported outcomes; the inclusion of ethnicities that are only present in one country or that live far from clinical research sites; and the reporting of drug safety information. There is a need to better train physicians on the evaluation of atopic dermatitis in patients with different skin colors and a need to improve the systematic reporting of ethnicity, race and skin color in clinical trial publications. Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic pathogen that can produce moderate and severe infections in immunosuppressed hosts. In recent years, an increase in the isolation of hypermucoviscous carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae with sequence type 25 (ST25) in hospitals in Norwest Argentina was observed. This work aimed to study the virulence and inflammatory potential of two K. pneumoniae ST25 strains (LABACER01 and LABACER27) in the intestinal mucosa. The human intestinal Caco-2 cells were infected with the K. pneumoniae ST25 strains, and their adhesion and invasion rates and changes in the expression of tight junction and inflammatory factors genes were evaluated. ST25 strains were able to adhere and invade Caco-2 cells, reducing their viability. Furthermore, both strains reduced the expression of tight junction proteins (occludin, ZO-1, and claudin-5), altered permeability, and increased the expression of TGF-β and TLL1 and the inflammatory factors (COX-2, iNOS, MCP-1, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α) in Caco-2 cells. The inflammatory response induced by LABACER01 and LABACER27 was significantly lower than the one produced by LPS or other intestinal pathogens, including K. pneumoniae NTUH-K2044. No differences in virulence and inflammatory potential were found between LABACER01 and LABACER27. In line with these findings, no major differences between the strains were found when the comparative genomic analysis of virulence factors associated with intestinal infection/colonization was performed. This work is the first to demonstrate that hypermucoviscous carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae ST25 infects human intestinal epithelial cells and induces moderate inflammation. Especially for young people, influencers and other celebrities followed on social media evoke affective closeness that in their young minds seems real even though it is fake. Such fake friendships are potentially problematic because of their felt reality on the consumer side while lacking any inversely felt true closeness. The question arises if the unilateral friendship of a social media user is equal or at least similar to real reciprocal friendship. Instead of asking social media users for explicit responses (conscious deliberation), the present exploratory study aimed to answer this question with the help of brain imaging technology. Thirty young participants were first invited to provide individual lists including (i) twenty names of their most followed and loved influencers or other celebrities (fake friend names), (ii) twenty names of loved real friends and relatives (real friend names) as well as (iii) twenty names they do not feel any closeness to (no friend names). They then came to the Freud CanBeLab (Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience and Behavior Lab) where they were shown their selected names in a random sequence (two rounds), while their brain activities were recorded via electroencephalography (EEG) and later calculated into event-related potentials (ERPs). We found short (ca. 100 ms) left frontal brain activity starting at around 250 ms post-stimulus to process real friend and no friend names similarly, while both ERPs differed from those elicited by fake friend names. This is followed by a longer effect (ca. 400 ms), where left and right frontal and temporoparietal ERPs also differed between fake and real friend names, but at this later processing stage, no friend names elicited similar brain activities to fake friend names in those regions. In general, real friend names elicited the most negative going brain potentials (interpreted as highest brain activation levels). These exploratory findings represent objective empirical evidence that the human brain clearly distinguishes between influencers or other celebrities and close people out of real life even though subjective feelings of closeness and trust can be similar. In summary, brain imaging shows there is nothing like a real friend. This study aimed to evaluate the treatment patterns and long-term efficacy of onabotulinumtoxinA injections in a clinical setting. This single-center retrospective study was conducted on patients with refractory overactive bladder (OAB) aged 18 years or older who received onabotulinumtoxinA 100 IU administered between April 2012 and May 2022. The primary endpoint was the treatment pattern, including the retreatment rate and OAB medication prescription pattern. The duration and effectiveness of onabotulinumtoxinA treatment were analyzed using the overactive bladder symptom score and voiding diaries. A total of 216 patients were enrolled in this study, and the overall patient satisfaction rate was 55.1%. After the first injection, 19.9% received a second treatment, and 6.1% received three or more injections. The median duration until the second injection was 10.7 months. Among the patients, 51.4% resumed OAB medications after 2.96 months. The presence of urodynamic detrusor overactivity was observed only in female patients (odds ratio, 23.65; 95% CI, 1.84 to 304.40), which was associated with a good response. In contrast to clinical trials, the degree of improvement and retreatment rate did not meet expectations. Our findings provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of onabotulinumtoxinA injections in patients with refractory OAB symptoms in real-world practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increased malignancy after kidney transplantation (KT) is by far the most troublesome issue. Among these malignancies, urothelial carcinoma (UC) incidence is uniquely high in Taiwan. We want to know whether routine sonography to detect native hydronephrosis is associated with the development of de novo urinary bladder urothelial carcinoma (UBUC) in post-KT recipients. From 2003 to 2018, we retrospectively analyzed 1005 KT patients, 58 of whom were subsequently diagnosed with UBUC. The association between new native hydronephrosis and post-KT UBUC was analyzed with univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses and a Kaplan–Meier plot. We excluded cases of people who had upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and were diagnosed prior to UBUC. There were 612 males (60.9%) and 393 females (39.1%), with a mean age of 48.2 ± 12.0 years old at KT. The mean follow-up period was 118.6 ± 70.2 months, and the diagnosis of UBUC from KT to UBUC was 7.0 ± 5.1 years. New native kidney hydronephrosis occurred more frequently in the UBUC group (56.4% versus 6.4%, p < 0.001) than the non-UBUC group. Multivariate analysis disclosed that native hydronephrosis is the only statistically significant factor for UBUC, with an odds ratio of 16.03 (95% CI, 8.66–29.68; p < 0.001). UBUC in post-KT patients with native hydronephrosis also showed a tendency toward multifocal lesions upon presentation (47.8%). Post-KT UBUC is characterized by pathologically aggressive and multiple foci lesions. Native kidney hydronephrosis may be a deciding factor of post-KT UBUC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Prostate cancer is among the most frequently diagnosed cancers and a leading cause of cancer-related death in men. Currently, the most reliable and widely used imaging test for prostate cancer diagnosis is multiparametric pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI). Modern biopsy techniques are based on the computerised merging of ultrasound and MRI images to provide better vision during the biopsy procedure (Fusion Biopsy). However, the method is expensive due to high equipment cost. Cognitive fusion of ultrasound and MRI images has recently emerged as a cheaper and easier alternative to computerised fusion. The aim of this prospective study is to perform an in-patient comparison of the systematic prostate biopsy procedure (SB) vs. cognitive fusion (CF) guided prostate biopsy method in terms of safety, ease of use, cancer detection rate and clinically significant cancer detection. We enrolled 103 patients with suspected prostate cancer that were biopsy naive, with PSA > 4 ng/dL and PIRADS score of 3, 4 or 5. All patients received a transperineal standard 12–18 cores systematic biopsy (SB) and a four-cores targeted cognitive fusion (CF) biopsy. Following the prostate biopsy, 68% of the patients were diagnosed with prostate cancer (70/103 patients). SB diagnosis rate was 62% while CF biopsy was slightly better with a 66% rate. There was a significant 20% increase in clinically significant prostate cancer detection rate for the CF compared to SB (p < 0.05) and a significant prostate cancer risk upgrade from the low to the intermediate risk category (13%, p = 0.041). Transperineal cognitive fusion targeted prostate biopsy is a straightforward biopsy method that is easy to perform and is a safe alternative to standard systematic biopsy with improved significant cancer detection accuracy. Importance: Although highly effective in treating recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (RCDI), the mechanisms of action of fecal microbial transplantation (FMT) are not fully understood. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore microbially derived products or pathways that could contribute to the therapeutic efficacy of FMT. Methods: Stool shotgun metagenomic sequencing data from 18 FMT-treated RCDI patients at 4 points in time were used for the taxonomic and functional profiling of their gut microbiome. The abundance of the KEGG orthology (KO) groups was subjected to univariate linear mixed models to assess the significance of the observed differences between 0 (pre-FMT), 1, 4, and 12 weeks after FMT. Results: Of the 59,987 KO groups identified by shotgun metagenomic sequencing, 27 demonstrated a statistically significant change after FMT. These KO groups are involved in many cellular processes, including iron homeostasis, glycerol metabolism, and arginine regulation, all of which have been implicated to play important roles in bacterial growth and virulence in addition to modulating the intestinal microbial composition. Conclusion: Our findings suggest potential changes in key KO groups post-FMT, which may contribute to FMT efficacy beyond the restored microbial composition/diversity and metabolism of bile acids and short-chain fatty acids. Future larger studies that include a fecal metabolomics analysis combined with animal model validation work are required to further elucidate the molecular mechanisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present research presented a novel model for incorporating service design to create guest experiential value. Taking a star hotel in Taiwan as an example, this study used the KJ method to classify online reviews about hotel services and then created a customer journey map (CJM) through participant observation of the entire service process. By deconstructing the service process and identifying key service touchpoints, service design ideas were incorporated into the CJM. A Kano questionnaire was then adopted to accommodate 38 service scape attributes in 4 segments: 1 attribute in the maintenance area, 10 of the high-priority area, 11 of the low-priority area, and 16 of differentiation. The overall research results propose experience design strategies for the hotel industry in terms of the service content and operation processes of star-rated hotels, which can then be adjusted according to their operating conditions to construct their unique service experience content. There are limited real-world data on the use of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Accordingly, this nationwide, population-based, retrospective cohort study aimed to describe BoNT-A treatment trends in patients with MS between 2014 and 2020 in France. This study extracted data from the French National Hospital Discharge Database (Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information, PMSI) covering the entire French population. Among 105,206 patients coded with MS, we identified those who received ≥1 BoNT-A injection, administered within striated muscle for MS-related spasticity and/or within the detrusor smooth muscle for neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO). A total of 8427 patients (8.0%) received BoNT-A injections for spasticity, 52.9% of whom received ≥3 BoNT-A injections with 61.9% of the repeated injections administered every 3 to 6 months. A total of 2912 patients (2.8%) received BoNT-A injections for NDO, with a mean of 4.7 injections per patient. Most repeated BoNT-A injections within the detrusor smooth muscle (60.0%) were administered every 5 to 8 months. There were 585 patients (0.6%) who received both BoNT-A injections within striated muscle and the detrusor smooth muscle. Cerebral excitability and systemic metabolic balance are closely interconnected. Energy supply to neurons depends critically on glucose, whose fluctuations can promote immediate hyperexcitability resulting in acute symptomatic seizures. On the other hand, chronic disorders of sugar metabolism (e.g., diabetes mellitus) are often associated with long-term epilepsy. In this paper, we aim to review the existing knowledge on the association between acute and chronic glycaemic imbalances (hyper- and hypoglycaemia) with seizures and epilepsy, especially in the developing brain, focusing on clinical and instrumental features in order to optimize the care of children and adolescents and prevent the development of chronic neurological conditions in young patients. Klebsiella pneumoniae is a nosocomial pathogen. Among its virulence factors is the capsule with a prominent role in defense and biofilm formation. Bacteriophages (phages) can evoke the lysis of bacterial cells. Due to the mode of action of their polysaccharide depolymerase enzymes, phages are typically specific for one bacterial strain and its capsule type. In this study, we characterized a bacteriophage against the capsule-defective mutant of the nosocomial K. pneumoniae 52145 strain, which lacks K2 capsule. The phage showed a relatively narrow host range but evoked lysis on a few strains with capsular serotypes K33, K21, and K24. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the newly isolated Klebsiella phage 731 belongs to the Webervirus genus in the Drexlerviridae family; it has a 31.084 MDa double-stranded, linear DNA with a length of 50,306 base pairs and a G + C content of 50.9%. Out of the 79 open reading frames (ORFs), we performed the identification of orf22, coding for a trimeric tail fiber protein with putative capsule depolymerase activity, along with the mapping of other putative depolymerases of phage 731 and homologous phages. Efficacy of a previously described recombinant K2 depolymerase (B1dep) was tested by co-spotting phage 731 on K. pneumoniae strains, and it was demonstrated that the B1dep-phage 731 combination allows the lysis of the wild type 52145 strain, originally resistant to the phage 731. With phage 731, we showed that B1dep is a promising candidate for use as a possible antimicrobial agent, as it renders the virulent strain defenseless against other phages. Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp) is a new emerging variant of K. pneumoniae that is increasingly reported worldwide. The variant hvKp is known to cause severe invasive community-acquired infections such as metastatic meningitis, pyogenic liver abscesses (PLA) and endophthalmitis, but its role in hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) is little known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of hvKp among hospital-acquired (HA) K. pneumoniae infections in the intensive care unit (ICU) and to compare between hvKp and classical K. pneumoniae (cKP) regarding antimicrobial resistance pattern, virulence and molecular characteristics. The study was cross-sectional and included 120 ICU patients suffering from HA K. pneumoniae infections between January and September 2022. K. pneumoniae isolates were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing and detection of extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL) production by the Phoenix 100 automated microbiology system, string test, biofilm formation, serum resistance assay, and detection of virulence-associated genes (rmpA, rmpA2, magA, iucA) and capsular serotype-specific genes (K1, K2, K5, K20, K57) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Of 120 K. pneumoniae isolates, 19 (15.8%) were hvKp. The hypermucoviscous phenotype was more significantly detected in the hvKp group than in the cKP group (100% vs. 7.9%, p ≤ 0.001). The rate of resistance to different antimicrobial agents was significantly higher in the cKP group than that in the hvKp group. Fifty-three strains were identified as ESBL-producing strains, which was more frequent in the cKP group than in the hvKp group (48/101 [47.5%] vs. 5/19 [26.3%], respectively, p ≤ 0.001). The hvKP isolates were highly associated with moderate and strong biofilm formation than cKP isolates (p = 0.018 and p = 0.043 respectively). Moreover, the hvKP isolates were highly associated with intermediate sensitivity and re sistance to serum in the serum resistance assay (p = 0.043 and p = 0.016 respectively). K1, K2, rmpA, rmpA2, magA and iucA genes were significantly associated with hvKp (p ≤ 0.001, 0.004, <0.001, <0.001, 0.037 and <0.001, respectively). However, K5, K20 and K57 were not associated with hvKp. The hvKp strains have emerged as a new threat to ICU patients because of their ability to cause more severe and life-threatening infections than cKP. The string test alone as a laboratory test for screening of hvKp has become insufficient. Recently, hvKp was defined as hypermucoviscous- and aerobactin-positive. Verbascum sinuatum (V. sinuatum) is a plant belonging to the Scrophulariaceae family that has been used as an ingredient in traditional medicine infusions for the treatment of many diseases. The aerial part of this plant is a source of bioactive compounds, especially polyphenols and iridoids. Moreover, antioxidant activity studies have shown that V. sinuatum phenolic and flavonoid composition is higher than those in other plants of the same genus. V. sinuatum bioactive compound composition could vary according to the harvesting location, growing conditions of the plants, sample preparation methods, type and concentration of the extraction solvent, and the extraction methods. The obtention of these compounds can be achieved by different extraction techniques, most commonly, maceration, heat assisted extraction, and infusion. Nevertheless, since conventional extraction techniques have several drawbacks such as long times of extraction or use of large amounts of solvents, the use of green extraction techniques is suggested, without affecting the efficiency of the extraction. Moreover, V. sinuatum bioactive compounds have several biological activities, such as antioxidant, anticancer, cardiovascular, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and neuroprotective activities, that may be increased by encapsulation. Since the bioactive compounds extracted from V. sinuatum present good potential as functional food ingredients and in the development of drugs or cosmetics, this review gives an approach of the possible incorporation of these compounds in the food and pharmacological industries. Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is one of the most common clinical pathogens and a typical multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterium. With the increase of drug-resistant A. baumannii infections, it is urgent to find some new treatment strategies, such as phage therapy. In this paper, we described the different drug resistances of A. baumannii and some basic properties of A. baumannii phages, analyzed the interaction between phages and their hosts, and focused on A. baumannii phage therapies. Finally, we discussed the chance and challenge of phage therapy. Klebsiella pneumoniae is a global health threat and bacteriophages are a potential solution in combating pandrug-resistant K. pneumoniae infections. Two lytic phages, LASTA and SJM3, active against several pandrug-resistant, nosocomial strains of K. pneumoniae were isolated and characterized. Their host range is narrow and latent period is particularly long; however, their lysogenic nature was refuted using both bioinformatic and experimental approaches. Genome sequence analysis clustered them with only two other phages into the new genus Lastavirus. Genomes of LASTA and SJM3 differ in only 13 base pairs, mainly located in tail fiber genes. Individual phages, as well as their cocktail, demonstrated significant bacterial reduction capacity in a time-dependent manner, yielding up to 4 log reduction against planktonic, and up to 2.59 log on biofilm-embedded, cells. Bacteria emerging from the contact with the phages developed resistance and achieved numbers comparable to the growth control after 24 h. The resistance to the phage seems to be of a transient nature and varies significantly between the two phages, as resistance to LASTA remained constant while resensitization to SJM3 was more prominent. In engineering acoustics, the propagation of elastic flexural waves in plate and shell structures is a common transmission path of vibrations and structure-borne noises. Phononic metamaterials with a frequency band gap can effectively block elastic waves in certain frequency ranges, but often require a tedious trial-and-error design process. In recent years, deep neural networks (DNNs) have shown competence in solving various inverse problems. This study proposes a deep-learning-based workflow for phononic plate metamaterial design. The Mindlin plate formulation was used to expedite the forward calculations, and the neural network was trained for inverse design. We showed that, with only 360 sets of data for training and testing, the neural network attained a 2% error in achieving the target band gap, by optimizing five design parameters. Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative opportunistic pathogen responsible for a variety of community and hospital infections. Infections caused by carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CRKP) constitute a major threat for public health and are strongly associated with high rates of mortality, especially in immunocompromised and critically ill patients. Adhesive fimbriae, capsule, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and siderophores or iron carriers constitute the main virulence factors which contribute to the pathogenicity of K. pneumoniae. Colistin and tigecycline constitute some of the last resorts for the treatment of CRKP infections. Carbapenemase production, especially K. pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) and metallo-β-lactamase (MBL), constitutes the basic molecular mechanism of CRKP emergence. Knowledge of the mechanism of CRKP appearance is crucial, as it can determine the selection of the most suitable antimicrobial agent among those most recently launched. Plazomicin, eravacycline, cefiderocol, temocillin, ceftolozane–tazobactam, imipenem–cilastatin/relebactam, meropenem–vaborbactam, ceftazidime–avibactam and aztreonam–avibactam constitute potent alternatives for treating CRKP infections. This study aims to investigate the antioxidant and anti-cancer activities of Clerodendrum chinense leaf ethanolic extract. The phenylethanoid glycoside-enriched extract, namely verbascoside and isoverbascoside, was determined in the ethanolic C. chinense leaf extract using the validated HPLC method. The ethanolic extract showed DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging activities with the IC50 values of 334.2 ± 45.48 μg/mL and 1012.77 ± 61.86 µg/mL, respectively, and a FRAP value of 88.73 ± 4.59 to 2480.81 ± 0.00 µM. C. chinense leaf extract exhibited anti-proliferative activity against A549 lung cancer cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, with the IC50 value of 340.63 ± 89.43, 210.60 ± 81.74, and 107.08 ± 28.90 µg/mL after treatment for 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively. The IC50 values of verbascoside, isoverbascoside, and hispidulin were 248.40 ± 15.82, 393.10 ± 15.27, and 3.86 ± 0.87 µg/mL, respectively, indicating that the anti-proliferative effects of the C. chinense leaf extract mainly resulted from hispidulin and verbascoside. The selectivity index (SI) of C. chinense leaf extract against A549 lung cancer cells vs. normal keratinocytes were 2.4 and 2.8 after incubation for 24 and 48 h, respectively, suggesting the cytotoxic selectivity of the extract toward the cancer cell line. Additionally, the C. chinense leaf extract at 250 µg/mL induced late apoptotic cells up to 21.67% with enhancing reactive oxygen species (ROS) induction. Furthermore, the lung cancer cell colony formation was significantly inhibited after being treated with C. chinense leaf extract in a dose-dependent manner. The C. chinense leaf extract at 250 µg/mL has also shown to significantly inhibit cancer cell migration compared with the untreated group. High-risk preterm infants are affected by a higher incidence of cognitive developmental deficits due to the unavoidable risk factor of oxygen toxicity. Caffeine is known to have a protective effect in preventing bronchopulmonary dysplasia associated with improved neurologic outcomes, although very early initiation of therapy is controversial. In this study, we used newborn rats in an oxygen injury model to test the hypothesis that near-birth caffeine administration modulates neuronal maturation and differentiation in the hippocampus of the developing brain. For this purpose, newborn Wistar rats were exposed to 21% or 80% oxygen on the day of birth for 3 or 5 days and treated with vehicle or caffeine (10 mg/kg/48 h). Postnatal exposure to 80% oxygen resulted in a drastic reduction of associated neuronal mediators for radial glia, mitotic/postmitotic neurons, and impaired cell-cycle regulation, predominantly persistent even after recovery to room air until postnatal day 15. Systemic caffeine administration significantly counteracted the effects of oxygen insult on neuronal maturation in the hippocampus. Interestingly, under normoxia, caffeine inhibited the transcription of neuronal mediators of maturing and mature neurons. The early administration of caffeine modulated hyperoxia-induced decreased neurogenesis in the hippocampus and showed neuroprotective properties in the neonatal rat oxygen toxicity model. Drug hypersensitivity reactions are classified into immediate and delayed types, according to the onset time. In contrast to the immediate type, delayed drug hypersensitivity mainly involves T lymphocyte recognition of the drug antigens and cell activation. The clinical presentations of such hypersensitivity are various and range from mild reactions (e.g., maculopapular exanthema (MPE) and fixed drug eruption (FDE)), to drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) (e.g., Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP)). The common culprits of delayed drug hypersensitivity include anti-epileptics, antibiotics, anti-gout agents, anti-viral drugs, etc. Delayed drug hypersensitivity is proposed to be initiated by different models of molecular recognition, composed of drug/metabolite antigen and endogenous peptide, HLA presentation, and T cell receptor (TCR) interaction. Increasing the genetic variants of HLA loci and drug metabolic enzymes has been identified to be responsible for delayed drug hypersensitivity. Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved self-degradation system that recycles cellular components and damaged organelles, which is critical for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis. Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) are short-lived molecules containing unpaired electrons that are formed by the partial reduction of molecular oxygen. It is widely known that autophagy and ROS can regulate each other to influence the progression of cancer. Recently, due to the wide potent anti-cancer effects with minimal side effects, phytochemicals, especially those that can modulate ROS and autophagy, have attracted great interest of researchers. In this review, we afford an overview of the complex regulatory relationship between autophagy and ROS in cancer, with an emphasis on phytochemicals that regulate ROS and autophagy for cancer therapy. We also discuss the effects of ROS/autophagy inhibitors on the anti-cancer effects of phytochemicals, and the challenges associated with harnessing the regulation potential on ROS and autophagy of phytochemicals for cancer therapy. Globally, Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) has been identified as a serious source of infections. The objectives of our study were to investigate the prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) K. pneumoniae in Tanta University Hospitals, Gharbia Governorate, Egypt; characterize their carbapenem resistance profiles; and identify their different capsular serotypes. We identified and isolated 160 (32%) K. pneumoniae from 500 different clinical samples, performed antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and then used multiplex PCR to detect carbapenemase genes and capsular serotypes K1, K2, K3, K5, K20, K54, and K57. We detected phenotypic carbapenem resistance in 31.3% (50/160) of the isolates; however, molecular assays revealed that 38.75% (62/160) of isolates were carrying carbapenemase-encoding genes. Generally, blaOXA-48 was the prevalent gene (15.5%), followed by blaVIM (15%), blaIMP (7.5%), blaKPC (4%), and blaNDM (3.8%). BlaVIM and blaOXA-48 correlated with phenotypic resistance in 91.67% and 88% of the isolates that harbored them, respectively. Capsular typing showed that the most prevalent pathotype was K1 (30.6%), followed by K57 (24.2%), K54 (19.35%), K20 (9.67%), and K2 (6.45%). A critical risk to community health is posed by the high incidence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) virulent K. pneumoniae isolates from our hospital, and our study examines this pathogen's public health and epidemiological risks. To plan great photocatalytic performance, fast photo-generated charge recombination in nanocatalysts should be repressed. Thus, copper sulphide-Zirconium dioxide (CuS-ZrO2) nanocomposites were synthesised via a facile chemical method. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) results indicated that a heterojunctions interface among CuS and ZrO2. XRD analysis showed optimum CuS-ZrO2 photocatalyst with an average diameter of 42.58 nm were found. The UV–vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (DRS) illustrated that the synthesised CuS-ZrO2 nanocomposites owned the highest absorption intensity in the UV-light range compared with pure ZrO2 nanoparticles. The bandgap (Eg) values of ZrO2 nanoparticles and CuS-ZrO2 nanocomposites were found 3.55 eV, and 2.65 eV, respectively. These characteristic structural and optical property consequence showed that the CuS-ZrO2 nanocomposites with great photocatalysis progress for degradation of tetracycline. Among the different ratio nanocomposites, CuS-ZrO2-2 indicates the highest photocatalytic efficiency (97.15%) in acidic pH and 60 min. Photocatalytic was optimised by response surface methodology with the Box-Behnken model. The study provides a promising photocatalyst to be used for organic pollutant removal in a large scale. Radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF) is a common consequence of radiation for thoracic tumors, and is accompanied by gradual and irreversible organ failure. This severely reduces the survival rate of cancer patients, due to the serious side effects and lack of clinically effective drugs and methods. Radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis is a dynamic process involving many complicated and varied mechanisms, of which alveolar type II epithelial (AT2) cells are one of the primary target cells, and the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) of AT2 cells is very relevant in the clinical search for effective targets. Therefore, this review summarizes several important signaling pathways that can induce EMT in AT2 cells, and searches for molecular targets with potential effects on RIPF among them, in order to provide effective therapeutic tools for the clinical prevention and treatment of RIPF. A long scientific journey has led to prominent technological advances in the RNA field, and several new types of molecules have been discovered, from non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) to riboswitches, small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and CRISPR systems. Such findings, together with the recognition of the advantages of RNA in terms of its functional performance, have attracted the attention of synthetic biologists to create potent RNA-based tools for biotechnological and medical applications. In this review, we have gathered the knowledge on the connection between RNA metabolism and pathogenesis in Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. We further discuss how RNA techniques have contributed to the building of this knowledge and the development of new tools in synthetic biology for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. Infectious diseases are still a world-leading cause of death and morbidity, and RNA-based therapeutics have arisen as an alternative way to achieve success. CRISPR-Cas is an adaptive immunity system of prokaryotes, composed of CRISPR arrays and the associated proteins. The successive addition of spacer sequences in the CRISPR array has made the system a valuable molecular marker, with multiple applications. Due to the high degree of polymorphism of the CRISPR loci, their comparison in bacteria from various sources may provide insights into the evolution and spread of the CRISPR-Cas systems. The aim of this study was to establish a correlation between the enterobacterial CRISPR loci, the sequence of direct repeats (DR), and the number of spacer units, along with the geographical origin and collection source. For this purpose, 3474 genomes containing CRISPR loci from the CRISPRCasdb of Salmonella enterica, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were analyzed, and the information regarding the isolates was recorded from the NCBI database. The most prevalent was the I-E CRISPR-Cas system in all three studied taxa. E. coli also presents the I-F type, but in a much lesser percentage. The systems found in K. pneumoniae can be classified into I-E and I-E*. The I-E and I-F systems have two CRISPR loci, while I-E* has only one locus upstream of the Cas cluster. PCR primers have been developed in this study for each CRISPR locus. Distinct clustering was not evident, but statistically significant relationships occurred between the different CRISPR loci and the number of spacer units. For each of the queried taxa, the number of spacers was significantly different (p < 0.01) by origin (Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America) but was not linked to the isolation source type (human, animal, plant, food, or laboratory strains). Ketogenic diets (KDs) are a promising alternative therapy for pediatric refractory epilepsy. Several predictors of KD responsiveness have been identified, including biochemical parameters, seizure types, and electroencephalography (EEG) examinations. We hypothesized that graph theory-based EEG functional connectivity could explain KD responses in patients presenting focal onset seizure (FOS). A total of 17 patients aged 0–30 years old with focal onset seizures (FOS) were recruited as a study group between January 2015 and July 2021. Twenty age-matched children presenting headache with no intracranial complications nor other medical issues were enrolled as a control group. Data were obtained at baseline and at 12 months after initiating KD therapy (KDT) using the child behavior checklist (CBCL) and brain functional connectivity parameters based on phase-locking value from 19 scalp EEG signals, including nodal strength, global efficiency, clustering coefficient, and betweenness centrality. Compared with age-matched controls, patients presenting FOS with right or bilateral EEG lateralization presented higher baseline functional connectivity, including parameters such as global efficiency, mean cluster coefficient and mean nodal strength in the delta and beta frequency bands. In patients presenting FOS with right or bilateral EEG lateralization, the global efficiency of functional connectivity parameters in the delta and theta frequency bands was significantly lower at 12 months after KDT treatment than before KDT. Those patients also presented a significantly lower mean clustering coefficient and mean nodal strength in the theta frequency band at 12 months after KDT treatment. Changes in brain functional connectivity were positively correlated with social problems, attention, and behavioral scores based on CBCL assessments completed by parents. This study provides evidence that KDT might be beneficial in the treatment of patients with FOS. Graph theoretic analysis revealed that the observed effects were related to decreased functional connectivity, particularly in terms of global efficiency. Our findings related to brain connectivity revealed lateralization to the right (non-dominant) hemisphere; however, we were unable to define the underlying mechanism. The work analyzes the issue of the use of drugs in dentistry from both a clinical and a medical–legal point of view. The laws governing the matter were also taken into consideration, relating them to the roles of prescriber and user that the dentist can acquire. Analysis of various aspects of this matter demonstrates that it is necessary for dentists to know the drugs and medical substances, their characteristics and properties, related effects, and interactions in order to use them appropriately and adequately. Knowledge of interferences, reactions, and adverse events or complications helps to reduce errors and protect patients' health. Furthermore, knowledge of the national and international reference standards relating to the use of drugs leads to a reduction in medico–legal questions. In conclusion, knowledge and adequate and appropriate use of drugs reduces the possibility of accidents, adverse events, medico–legal consequences, and disputes with patients. Documented and traceable choices allow the analysis and valuation of professional conduct. Authors perceived the topic of informed consent of patients as relevant to the adequate procedure of prescribing drugs related to dentistry practice; therefore, representative conditions of patients at risk should be illustrated in practice. Purpose: How employees connect with their work organisation and how it may play a role in their moral courage and ethical behaviour remain under-explored. This study, using Psychological Contract Theory, aims to explore how employee–organisation connectedness influences employees' moral courage and ethical behaviour. Design/methodology/approach: The hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) on data collected through a questionnaire survey from 212 Australian healthcare professionals. Findings: Employee connectedness with their work organisations showed a significant and direct impact on ethical behaviour. Along with moral courage, connectedness explained over half of the variance in ethical behaviour. Furthermore, moral courage partially mediated the effect of employee connectedness on ethical behaviour. Research limitations/implications: The overall theoretical implication of this study is that psychological contracts between employees and their organisations operationalised through employee–organisation connectedness can explain the role of moral courage in ethical behaviour. Practical implications: With increasing borderless management of organisations, organisational connectedness can be a critical factor in developing employees' moral courage and ethical behaviour within organisations. The edible fungus Tremella fuciformis was shown to have a high molecular weight (1.87 × 103 kDa) bioactive polysaccharide, denoted as TFP-F1. Monosaccharide composition and NMR analysis of the polysaccharide and its derivatives indicated it contained fucose (Fucp), xylose (Xylp), mannose (Manp), and glucuronic acid (GlcAp) in a ratio of 0.9:1.0:3.2:1.2. Using IR, NMR, and GC-MS spectroscopic data, the structure of TFP-F1 was elucidated as {→3)-[β-D-GlcAp-(1→2)]-α-D-Manp-(1→3)-α-D-Manp-(1→3)-[α-L-Fucp-(1→2)-β-D-Xylp-(1→2)]-α-D-Manp-(1→}n, with partial acetylation of C6-OH in mannoses. Furthermore, at a concentration of 1 μg/mL, TFP-F1 was found to stimulate the secretion of TNF-α and IL-6 in J774A.1 macrophage cells in vitro via interaction with toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). The removal of O-acetyl groups led to the loss of immunomodulatory activities, demonstrating that O-acetyl groups play an essential role in enhancing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Change detection (CD) in hyperspectral images has become a research hotspot in the field of remote sensing due to the extremely wide spectral range of hyperspectral images compared to traditional remote sensing images. It is challenging to effectively extract features from redundant high-dimensional data for hyperspectral change detection tasks due to the fact that hyperspectral data contain abundant spectral information. In this paper, a novel feature extraction network is proposed, which uses a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to mine the spectral information of the input image and combines this with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to fuse the spatial information of hyperspectral data. Finally, the feature extraction structure of hybrid RNN and CNN is used as a building block to complete the change detection task. In addition, we use an unsupervised sample generation strategy to produce high-quality samples for network training. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method yields reliable detection results. Moreover, the proposed method has fewer noise regions than the pixel-based method. Simple Summary: Multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) is regarded as an essential tool for identifying prostate cancer (PCa) in suspected cases. However, unnecessary biopsies continue to be performed in real clinics, especially for prostate imaging reporting and data system version 2 (PI-RADS v2) score-3 lesions, corresponding to the "gray zone". To aid the diagnosis of PCa, as well as of clinically significant PCa (csPCa), in patients with PI-RADSv2 score-3 lesions, we evaluated the clinical utility of the prostate health index (PHI). When a biopsy was restricted to those patients with PI-RADSv2 score-3 lesions and a PHI of ≥30, 34.4% of unnecessary biopsies could be avoided at the cost of missing 8.3% of overall PCa cases. However, there were no cases of missed csPCa diagnosis. The combination of PHI and PI-RADSv2 score-3 lesions offered higher accuracy in the diagnosis of PCa as well as of csPCa. The risk of prostate cancer (PCa) in prostate imaging reporting and data system version 2 (PI-RADSv2) score-3 lesions is equivocal; it is regarded as an intermediate status of presented PCa. In this study, we evaluated the clinical utility of the prostate health index (PHI) for the diagnosis of PCa and clinically significant PCa (csPCa) in patients with PI-RADSv2 score-3 lesions. The study cohort included patients who underwent a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided, cognitive-targeted biopsy for PI-RADSv2 score-3 lesions between November 2018 and April 2021. Before prostate biopsy, the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) derivatives, such as total PSA (tPSA), [-2] proPSA (p2PSA) and free PSA (fPSA) were determined. Using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, the values of PSA derivatives measured by the area under the ROC curve (AUC) were compared. For this study, csPCa was defined as Gleason grade 2 or higher. Of the 392 patients with PI-RADSv2 score-3 lesions, PCa was confirmed in 121 (30.9%) patients, including 59 (15.1%) confirmed to have csPCa. Of all the PSA derivatives, PHI and PSA density (PSAD) showed better performance in predicting overall PCa and csPCa, compared with PSA (all p < 0.05). The AUC of the PHI for predicting overall PCa and csPCa were 0.807 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.710–0.906, p = 0.001) and 0.819 (95% CI: 0.723–0.922, p < 0.001), respectively. By the threshold of 30, PHI was 91.7% sensitive and 46.1% specific for overall PCa, and was 100% sensitive for csPCa. Using 30 as a threshold for PHI, 34.4% of unnecessary biopsies could have been avoided, at the cost of 8.3% of overall PCa, but would include all csPCa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

(1) Objective: ST11 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is widespread throughout the world, and the mechanisms for the transmission and evolution of major serotypes, ST11-KL47 and ST11-KL64, were analyzed to investigate the global distribution and evolutionary characteristics of ST11 CRKP; (2) Methods: The Pathosystems Resource Integration Center (PATRIC) database was downloaded and all K. pneumoniae from 2011 to 2020 were screened to obtain ST11 CRKP genome assemblies with basic information. The relationship of serotype evolution between KL47 and KL64 was then investigated using statistical and bioinformatic analysis; (3) Results: In total, 386 ST11 CRKP isolates were included for analysis. Blood (31.09%, 120/386), respiratory tract (23.06%, 89/386), and feces (20.21%, 78/386) were the major sources of samples. China was the leading country where ST11 CRKP was isolated. KL47 and KL64 were found to be the most prevalent serotypes. ST11-KL64 CRKP [median 78(P25~P75: 72~79.25)] had remarkably more virulence genes than the KL47 [median 63(P25~P75: 63~69)], and the distinction was statistically significant (p < 0.001). A differential comparison of virulence genes between KL47 and KL64 revealed 35 differential virulence genes, including rmpA/rmpA2, iucABCD, iutA, etc. The comparison of the recombination of serotype-determining regions between the two serotypes revealed that KL64 CRKP carried more nucleotide sequences in the CD1-VR2-CD2 region than KL47 CRKP. More nucleotide sequences added approximately 303 base pairs (bp) with higher GC content (58.14%), which might facilitate the evolution of the serotype toward KL64; (4) Conclusions: KL47 and KL64 have become the predominant serotypes of ST11 CRKP. KL64 CRKP carries more virulence genes than KL47 and has increased by approximately 303 bp through recombinant mutations, thus facilitating the evolution of KL47 to KL64. A novel temperate phage vB_KpnP_ZX1 was isolated from hospital sewage samples using the clinically derived K57-type Klebsiella pneumoniae as a host. Phage vB_KpnP_ZX1, encoding three lysogen genes, the repressor, anti-repressor, and integrase, is the fourth phage of the genus Uetakevirus, family Podoviridae, ever discovered. Phage vB_KpnP_ZX1 did not show ideal bactericidal effect on K. pneumoniae 111-2, but TEM showed that the depolymerase Dep_ZX1 encoded on the short tail fiber protein has efficient capsule degradation activity. In vitro antibacterial results show that purified recombinant Dep_ZX1 can significantly prevent the formation of biofilm, degrade the formed biofilm, and improve the sensitivity of the bacteria in the biofilm to the antibiotics kanamycin, gentamicin, and streptomycin. Furthermore, the results of animal experiments show that 50 µg Dep_ZX1 can protect all K. pneumoniae 111-2-infected mice from death, whereas the control mice infected with the same dose of K. pneumoniae 111-2 all died. The degradation activity of Dep_ZX1 on capsular polysaccharide makes the bacteria weaken their resistance to immune cells, such as complement-mediated serum killing and phagocytosis, which are the key factors for its therapeutic action. Pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) is a common cause of hepatobiliary sepsis. Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) is the most common organism causing PLA. Evidence is scarce on the demographics, radiological findings, and outcomes of KPPLA versus non-KPPLA (N-KPPLA). PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Scopus were systematically searched until 14 May 2022 for studies comparing KPPLA and N-KPPLA. Exclusion criteria were single-arm studies. Primary outcomes were mortality (30-day/in-hospital) and metastatic complications. There were 16 studies, including 5127 patients (KPPLA n = 3305, N-KPPLA n = 1822). Patients with KPPLA were younger (mean difference: −2.04 years, p = 0.02). History of hepatobiliary disease (Odds ratio (OR) 0.30, 95% CI: 0.20, 0.46) and malignancy (OR 0.26, 95% CI: 0.16, 0.42) were less common in KPPLA. KPPLA was associated with lower incidence of multiple abscesses (OR 0.52, 95% CI: 0.35, 0.76, p < 0.001) and bilobar abscesses (OR 0.60, 95% CI: 0.49, 0.74, p < 0.001). KPPLA has higher overall metastatic complications (KPPLA 9.7% vs. N-KPPLA 4.8%, OR 3.16, 95% CI: 2.00, 4.99, p < 0.001), but lower mortality (KPPLA 3.9% vs. N-KPPLA 7.6%, OR 0.51, 95% CI: 0.34, 0.78, p < 0.001). Multidrug resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains have recently become one of the major public health concerns worldwide leading to difficulties in selecting appropriate antibiotic treatment. Thus, it is important to elucidate the characteristics of MDR isolates. Herein, we aimed to determine the unique exometabolome profile of P. aeruginosa clinical isolates in monocultures that comprise high resistance to multiple antibiotics, and compare the differential metabolite profiles obtained from susceptible isolates by using GC/MS. Our results showed that partial least square‐discriminant analysis (PLS‐DA) score plot clearly discriminated the MDR and susceptible isolates indicating the altered exometabolite profiles, and highlighted the significantly enriched levels of trehalose and glutamic acid in MDR isolates. Expression of trehalose synthase (treS) was also 1·5‐fold higher in MDR isolates, relatively to susceptible isolates. Active principles in plant-based foods, especially staple fruits, such as bananas and plantains, possess inter-related anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, antioxidative, and neuromodulatory activities. Neurodegenerative diseases affect the functionality of the central and peripheral nervous system, with attendant cognitive deficits being hallmarks of these conditions. The dietary constitution of a wide range of bioactive compounds identified in this review further iterates the significance of the banana and plantain in compromising, halting, or preventing the pathological mechanisms of neurological disorders. The neuroprotective mechanisms of these biomolecules have been identified by using protein expression regulation and specific gene/pathway targeting, such as the nuclear and tumor necrosis factors, extracellular signal-regulated and mitogen-activated protein kinases, activator protein-1, and the glial fibrillary acidic protein. This review establishes the potential double-edged neuro-pharmacological fingerprints of banana and plantain fruits in their traditionally consumed pulp and less utilized peel component for human nutrition. In order to assist in high-yield agricultural management in multiple cropping systems, it is essential to understand the link between the rainy season onset and crops sowing dates, since it considerably affects the management, yield and output. We built crop calendars derived from remote sensing products and investigated the link between sowing dates and the onset of the rainy season in irrigated and rainfed agriculture in Western Bahia, a new and important agricultural frontier in Brazilian Cerrado. Crop sowing dates were obtained from green-up dates from 2001 to 2019. Rainy season onset dates were determined using CHIRPS daily precipitation data. Results indicate that sowing occurs from 26 October to 15 November and the rainy season starts from 17 to 27 October. Rainfed sowing dates are strongly correlated to rainy season onset and are particularly affected in years where rains are delayed. Sowing dates in irrigated pixels occur up to 25 days earlier than rainfed and are not correlated to rainy season onset. Irrigated farms are sowing earlier and in a shorter window than rainfed, with a stronger resilience in years where rains are delayed, and have adapted their sowing operation towards a more intensive agriculture and efficient water use during the rainy season. With the development of the hyperspectral imaging technique, hyperspectral image (HSI) classification is receiving more and more attention. However, due to high dimensionality, limited or unbalanced training samples, spectral variability, and mixing pixels, it is challenging to achieve satisfactory performance for HSI classification. In order to overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a feature extraction method called spatial perception correntropy matrix (SPCM), which makes use of spatial and spectral correlation simultaneously to improve the classification accuracy and robustness. Specifically, the dimension reduction is carried out firstly. Then, the spatial perception method is designed to select the local neighbour pixels. Thus, local spectral-spatial correlation is characterized by the correntropy matrix constructed using the selected neighbourhoods. Finally, SPCM representations are fed into the support vector machine for classification. The extensive experiments carried out on three widely used data sets have revealed that the proposed SPCM performs better than several state-of-the-art methods, especially when the training set is small.
