An APV Baker twin-screw extruder helps examine the influence of a barrel-valve assembly on extrusion system dynamics and product properties having different screw speeds and specific feeding loads (SFL). Change of barrel-valve from open to closed position induces a convex response of die pressure, system responses and extrudate properties. Change of product properties due to variations in SFL is higher than the variations in barrel-valve control.

Cookery (Brown rice) -- Research ,Rice -- Study and teaching ,Business ,Food/cooking/nutrition - Abstract
Long-grain and medium-grain brown rice were used to study the puffing of rice cakes. An investigation of the effects of tempering moisture, heating temperatures and heating time on various rice cake quality attributes was carried out. When the tempering moisture was low, the heating temperature was high and the heating time was longer, then rice cakes made from long-grain brown rice had a greater specific cake volume. A higher tempering moisture yielded a larger specific cake volume for medium-grain rice. It was found that the less-expanded rice cakes were lighter in color and that medium-grain rice cakes were more fragile than long-grain rice cakes.

Extrusion process -- Research ,Food -- Production processes ,Business ,Food/cooking/nutrition - Abstract
A study to determine the effects of changes in screw speed on the temperature, pressure, product characteristics and other variables involved in the extrusion process is presented. A twin-screw extruder was used in evaluating how step changes in screw speed affects product temperature, torque and mass pressure. Results showed that changes in screw speed had significant effects on the entire extrusion process. Unchanging dynamic responses were noted for greater step inputs while unstable responses were noted for small inputs, thus the variance in product characteristics.

NONVOLATILE memory ,ERROR rates ,PROBABILITY density function - Abstract
A double-HZO (HfZrO
2 ) FeFET (ferroelectric FET) with nonidentical ferroelectric thicknesses is experimentally demonstrated with as low as |VP/E | = 5 V, 2-bit endurance > 105 cycles and retention > 104 s. Inserting an insulator to separate the ferroelectric layers and avoid the monoclinic formation of a thick Fe-HZO (ferroelectric-HZO) is a useful method to enhance the MW (memory window) for MLC (multilevel cell) applications. Double-HZO has a lower ER (error rate) and shows a 600X improvement compared to single-HZO. The stacked HZO FeFET has potential as an MLC for high-density NVM (nonvolatile memory) applications. DISTRIBUTION (Probability theory) ,FIELD-effect transistors ,LATTICE dynamics ,GAUSSIAN distribution ,COMPUTER simulation - Abstract
Device dimension scaling down to be comparable to the domain size of polycrystalline ferroelectric HfZrO
2 (HZO) is evaluated for subthreshold swing (SS) and drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) by numerical simulation. The proposed multi-domain modeling involves polarization random location in HZO and probability with Gaussian distribution, as well as being integrated with the Landau–Khalatnikov equation. A small device with a few domains exhibits steep SS compared with large dimension with many domains. The N-DIBL (negative-DIBL) is also estimated by using this model, and the negative capacitance effect retards the short-channel effects significantly. The trend of the experimental data and simulation results of fin field-effect transistors and planar field-effect transistors is consistent with nano-scale and micro-scale devices, respectively. 65. Structural studies of PfEMP1 bound to human cluster of differentiation 36 and of an unusual human antibody

- Abstract
In Plasmodium falciparum-infected humans, parasites escape from splenic clearance and cause severe or chronic symptoms partly through the action of the variable surface antigens expressed on the surfaces of infected erythrocytes, called P. falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (PfEMP1). PfEMP1 that interact with human Cluster of Differentiation 36 (CD36) receptor mediate the most common adhesion phenotype found in infected erythrocytes. Here the first crystal structure of CD36 in complex with a PfEMP1 CIDR domain is presented. Together with sequence analysis and biophysical data, it shows how parasite PfEMP1 proteins are able to diversify hugely while retaining a chemically conserved CD36 binding surface. This reveals insight into the structure and function of CD36 and shows how the parasite targets a region of CD36 that is critical for its physiological role, avoiding mutations in host receptors that would prevent parasite binding. Repetitive interspersed family proteins (RIFINs) are the most abundant variant surface antigens in P. falciparum. However, unlike the well-studied PfEMP1, the function of RIFIN remains unclear. Recently, a subset of human antibodies was identified from malaria-endemic areas that can recognise varied RIFINs. These antibodies have the unique feature of the insertion of a human receptor, LAIR1 (CD305), into the third complementarity-determining region of their heavy chain. Here, the first structure of one of these unusual LAIR1-containing antibodies is presented. It reveals that the CDR loops are mostly occluded by the insert and form a surface that positions LAIR1 for antigen binding. The variable regions of the antibody therefore no longer perform their classical role in antigen recognition. Instead they act as an adaptor between a human LAIR1 insert with antigen binding properties and the immune-modulatory antibody constant regions.

We report on a search for the trilepton decay signature from the associated production of supersymmetric gaugino pairs, {tilde {chi}}{sup {plus_minus}}{sub 1}{tilde {chi}}{sub 2}{sup 0}, within the context of minimal supersymmetric models that conserve R parity. This search uses 95 pb{sup {minus}1} of p{bar p} data taken at {radical}(s)=1.8 TeV with the D0 detector. No evidence of a trilepton signature has been found, and a limit on the product of cross section times branching fraction to trileptons is given as a function of {tilde {chi}}{sup {plus_minus}}{sub 1} mass. {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}

The thermal properties, specific heat and thermal conductivity of extruded beef/corn meal blends were examined. The densities of the extruded products ranged from 1,054 to 1, 091 kg/m (super 3). Their specific heats were found to be from 2.944 to 3.055 kJ/kgk while thermal conductivity was measured to be 0.26 to 0.39 W/mK. Extrusion conditions and formulations, but not specific heat, were shown to affect some of the physical and thermal properties of the extruded products.

A study is conducted to develop a noninvasive method based on fluorescence polarization spectroscopy in order to measure the degree of fiber formation of extruded meat analogs. The texture profile analysis is found inadequate to describe the fiber formation whereas the visual inspection and digital imaging results of the dissected samples is found in good agreement with the new method.

- Abstract
© 2014 Shev et al. We take a system point of view toward constructing any power or ranking hierarchy onto a society of human or animal players. The most common hierarchy is the linear ranking, which is habitually used in nearly all real-world problems. A stronger version of linear ranking via increasing and unvarying winning potentials, known as Bradley-Terry model, is particularly popular. Only recently non-linear ranking hierarchy is discussed and developed through recognition of dominance information contents beyond direct dyadic win-and-loss. We take this development further by rigorously arguing for the necessity of accommodating system's global pattern information contents, and then introducing a systemic testing on Bradley- Terry model. Our test statistic with an ensemble based empirical distribution favorably compares with the Deviance test equipped with a Chi-squared asymptotic approximation. Several simulated and real data sets are analyzed throughout our development.

Article - Abstract
Transcription through chromatin by different RNA polymerases produces different biological outcomes and is accompanied by either nucleosome survival at the original location (Pol II-type mechanism) or backward nucleosome translocation along DNA (Pol III-type mechanism). It has been proposed that differences in the structure of the key intermediates formed during transcription dictate the fate of the nucleosomes. To evaluate this possibility, structure of the key intermediate formed during transcription by Pol III-type mechanism was studied by DNase I footprinting and molecular modeling. The Pol III-type mechanism is characterized by less efficient formation of the key intermediate required for nucleosome survival (Ø-loop, Pol II-type mechanism), most likely due to steric interference between the RNA polymerase and DNA in the Ø-loop. The data suggest that the lower efficiency of Ø-loop formation induces formation of a lower nucleosomal barrier and nucleosome translocation during transcription by Pol III-type mechanism.

- Abstract
Various linear models may be specified when attempting to estimate an apparent linear trend in real data sets, based on assumptions about the possibly unknown mechanism for generating the data. However, in many cases the best-fit line obtained from implementation of the specified model does not agree at all with the apparent trend in a scatterplot of the data, based on the evident geometric structure. We use both real and simulated data to illustrate the consequences of misspecifying a particular linear model for situations in which that model is inappropriate, and propose a dynamic test which may be used to determine when its specification is appropriate.

Thin Film Solar Cells ,CIS and Other (II-VI) Ternary Thin Film Solar Cells - Abstract
25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition / 5th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion, 6-10 September 2010, Valencia, Spain; 3463-3464, Cu(In,Ga)Se2 based thin films are prepared by two step process. The metallic precursors are sputtered by Cu0.75Ga0.25 and In targets individually. The stack sequence and In thickness of precursors are adjusted in ordered to discuss the phases of absorbers which are selenized with elemental Se vapor under N2 atmosphere. It indicates that CIGS single phase is formed from the precursors of Mo/CuGa/In/CuGa stack sequence with ideal Cu/(In+Ga) composition ratio (0.85-0.95). CuIn2Se3.5 phase is formed from the In-rich precursors of which Cu/(In+Ga) ratio is less than 0.7 and it is independent of stack sequence of precursors.

The inclusive muon cross section, and the cross section for mouns originating from b quark decay, in the forward rapidity region of 2.4 < | ymu | < 3.2 were measured in this study. It was found that next-to-leading order QCD calculations underestimate b quark production by a factor of 4 in this region.
