59. Attitudes, knowledge, and perceptions of Chinese doctors toward drug abuse

Abstract

We assessed the attitudes, knowledge, and perceptions of Chinese doctors who worked with drug abusers to provide direction for planned drug and alcohol education and training. A 34-item questionnaire was developed; 523 copies were distributed and 446 (84.5%) validated copies were collected. Half of the respondents (50.0%) had no formal training before they started treating drug abusers. Among them, only 16.6% were psychiatrists. Less than half of the respondents agreed that drug abuse (addiction) is a brain disorder. Male and female doctors and doctors from different facilities tended to have different opinions on reasons for relapse, efficacy of treatments, and awareness of treatment modalities, among others. Doctors from involuntary facilities were more likely to disagree with the idea that drug addiction is a brain disorder and favored compulsory treatment. Doctors involved in drug abuse treatment in China are not well prepared or experienced in drug abuse treatment and have negative attitudes toward drug abuse and abusers. Abstract

Organic azides are highly reactive, which have long established as versatile building blocks in the assembly of structurally diverse N‐containing heterocycles. The conversion of organic azides into high‐value compounds is of great importance and a subject of enormous current interest. Transition metal‐catalyzed C(sp2)−H amination/annulation of organic azides provides a powerful tool for the transformation of organic azides into a wide range of biologically important heterocyclic frameworks. In this review, we aim to summarize the recent progress on organic azides‐mediated C(sp2)−H amination/annulation for N‐heterocycle synthesis enabled by transition metal catalysts. 75. Understanding organisational responses to regulative pressures in information security management:the case of a Chinese hospital

Abstract

This paper advances existing theoretical understanding of the factors impacting upon organisational responses to regulative pressures in the process of information security management (ISM). Drawing on institutional theory, we conduct a case study of ISM in a Chinese hospital. A theoretical framework is presented, which proposes that organisational response strategies devised in response to regulative pressures are determined jointly by internal organisational incentives and external government supervision and enforcement. Practical implications for policymakers to promote organisational ISM are given and suggestions for future research based on the theoretical findings of the case study are provided.

Abstract

Fossils of Auroraceratops are abundant and found in high concentrations within the Mazongshan area of northwestern China. As small basal Neoceratopsia discovered from the Lower Cretaceous, its general anatomy is well known; however, the endocranial morphology of this genus has never been formally described before. Here, we selected a well-preserved skull which belongs to Auroraceratops sp. and used a high-resolution CT scan to reconstruct its three-dimensional, virtual endocast in order to illustrate the endocranial structures in detail. Our study provides the first description of the endocranial anatomy of Auroraceratops and compares it with other relevant ceratopsian taxa. Our result shows that for a basal Neoceratopsia, the endocranial morphology of Auroraceratops is closer to that of non-neoceratopsian ceratopsian Psittacosaurus than the more derived neoceratopsians, such as Pachyrhinosaurus, which provides new insight into the endocranial characters of basal Neoceratopsia. Abstract

With the nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT), a novel region-segmentation-based fusion algorithm for infrared (IR) and visible images is presented. The IR image is segmented according to the physical features of the target. The source images are decomposed by the NSCT, and then, different fusion rules for the target regions and the background regions are employed to merge the NSCT coefficients respectively. Finally, the fused image is obtained by applying the inverse NSCT. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the pixel-based methods, including the traditional wavelet-based method and NSCT-based method.

Abstract

c-Myc(Mychereafter) is found to be deregulated and/or amplified in most acute myeloid leukemias (AMLs). Almost all AML cells are dependent upon Myc for their proliferation and survival. Thus, Myc has been proposed as a critical anti-AML target. Myc has Max-mediated transactivational and Myc-interacting zinc finger protein 1 (Miz1)-mediated transrepressional activities. The role of Myc-Max–mediated transactivation in the pathogenesis of AML has been well studied; however, the role of Myc-Miz1–mediated transrepression in AML is still somewhat obscure. Myc protein harboring a V394D mutation (MycV394D) is a mutant form of Myc that lacks transrepressional activity due to a defect in its ability to interact with Miz1. We found that, compared with Myc, the oncogenic function of MycV394Dis significantly impaired. The AML/myeloproliferative disorder that develops in mice receiving MycV394D-transduced hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) is significantly delayed compared with mice receiving Myc-transduced HSPCs. Using a murine MLL-AF9AML model, we found that AML cells expressing MycV394D(intrinsic Mycdeleted) are partially differentiated and show reductions in both colony-forming ability in vitro and leukemogenic capacity in vivo. The reduced frequency of leukemia stem cells (LSCs) among MycV394D-AML cells and their reduced leukemogenic capacity during serial transplantation suggest that Myc-Miz1 interaction is required for the self-renewal of LSCs. In addition, we found that MycV394D-AML cells are more sensitive to chemotherapy than are Myc-AML cells. Mechanistically, we found that Myc represses Miz1-mediated expression of CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α (Cebpα) and Cebpδ, thus playing an important role in the pathogenesis of AML by maintaining the undifferentiated state and self-renewal capacity of LSCs.

88. Zhangwuia: an enigmatic organ with a bennettitalean appearance and enclosed ovules.

Abstract

The feature distinguishing typical angiosperms from gymnosperms is that their ovules are enclosed before pollination. Bennettitales were formerly related to angiosperms because of the flower-like organisation of the former's reproductive organs. There is little information on how the naked ovules of Bennettitales became enclosed in angiosperms because fossil evidence for such a transition, if it exists, has not been described. Here, we report a reproductive organ, Zhangwuia gen. nov., from the Middle Jurassic of Inner Mongolia, China. Like many Bennettitales, the arrangement of the foliar parts around the female part in Zhangwuia demonstrates a resemblance to typical angiosperm flowers. It is noteworthy that the ovule is secluded from the exterior space in Zhangwuia , therefore implying the existence of angio-ovuly. Although Bennettitales have been related to angiosperms for more than a hundred years, their way of ovule-enclosing was not previously revealed. The discovery of Zhangwuia prompts a rethinking of the relationship between Bennettitales and angiosperms, as well as of the origin of angiosperms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper proposes a smart portable device, named the X-Eye, which provides a gesture interface with a small size but a large display for the application of photo capture and management. The wearable vision system is implemented with embedded systems and can achieve real-time performance. The hardware of the system includes an asymmetric dualcore processer with an ARM core and a DSP core. The display device is a pico projector which has a small volume size but can project large screen size. A triple buffering mechanism is designed for efficient memory management. Software functions are partitioned and pipelined for effective execution in parallel. The gesture recognition is achieved first by a color classification which is based on the expectation-maximization algorithm and Gaussian mixture model (GMM). To improve the performance of the GMM, we devise a LUT (Look Up Table) technique. Fingertips are extracted and geometrical features of fingertip's shape are matched to recognize user's gesture commands finally. In order to verify the accuracy of the gesture recognition module, experiments are conducted in eight scenes with 400 test videos including the challenge of colorful background, low illumination, and flickering. The processing speed of the whole system including the gesture recognition is with the frame rate of 22.9FPS. Experimental results give 99% recognition rate. The experimental results demonstrate that this small-size large-screen wearable system has effective gesture interface with real-time performance.

Abstract

Aiming to solve the problem of profit allocation for supply and demand network (SDN) enterprises that ignores risk factors and generates low satisfaction, a novel profit-allocation model based on cooperative game theory and TOPSIS is proposed. This new model avoids the defect of the single-profit allocation model by introducing risk factors, compromise coefficients and high negotiation points. By measuring the Euclidean distance between the ideal solution vector and the negative ideal solution vector, every node’s satisfaction problem for the SDN was resolved, and the mess phenomenon was avoided.
