AbstractThis theoretical scientific study explores the link between the implementation of a working time recording system in the home office and knowledge management, given that the goal of knowledge management is to create a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the employer, leading to increased efficiency and effectiveness. The main source of knowledge needed for the purposes of processing this study were scientific articles that were searched in the ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus and JSTOR databases. The material also includes selected legal regulations and court decisions. We thoroughly examined these sources and summarized the information found in the conclusion. Similarly, in the home office context, implementing a working time recording system can help with knowledge management in several ways, including increased visibility, improved organization, enhanced collaboration and enhanced learning. Moreover, the literature suggests that implementing a working time recording system in the office can have several benefits for knowledge management. By providing a more accurate and detailed record of employee work activity, tracking employee learning and development activities, and enabling the tracking of the flow of work within an organization, such systems can support the management of knowledge and help employers to achieve their goals.

Abstract Background Since social distancing during the COVID-19-pandemic had a profound impact on professional life, this study investigated the effect of PCR testing on on-site work. Methods PCR screening, antibody testing, and questionnaires offered to 4,890 working adults in Lower Saxony were accompanied by data collection on demographics, family status, comorbidities, social situation, health-related behavior, and the number of work-related contacts. Relative risks (RR) with 95 % confidence intervals were estimated for the associations between regular PCR testing and other work and health-related variables, respectively, and working on-site. Analyses were stratified by the suitability of work tasks for mobile office. Results Between April 2020 and February 2021, 1,643 employees underwent PCR testing. Whether mobile working was possible strongly influenced the work behavior. Persons whose work was suitable for mobile office (mobile workers) had a lower probability of working on-site than persons whose work was not suitable for mobile office (RR = 0.09 (95 % CI: 0.07 – 0.12)). In mobile workers, regular PCR-testing was slightly associated with working on-site (RR = 1.19 (0.66; 2.14)). In those whose working place was unsuitable for mobile office, the corresponding RR was 0.94 (0.80; 1.09). Compared to persons without chronic diseases, chronically ill persons worked less often on-site if their workplace was suitable for mobile office (RR = 0.73 (0.40; 1.33)), but even more often if their workplace was not suitable for mobile office (RR = 1.17 (1.04; 1.33)). Conclusion If work was suitable for mobile office, regular PCR-testing did not have a strong effect on presence at the work site. Trial registration An ethics vote of the responsible medical association (Lower Saxony, Germany) retrospectively approved the evaluation of the collected subject data in a pseudonymized form in the context of medical studies (No. Bo/30/2020; Bo/31/2020; Bo/32/2020).

The Covid-19 pandemic has complicated business activities at various levels, primarily in terms of work organization. The objective of this research is to determine the significance of organizational culture for employees working in home office conditions. What values and amenities, previously preferred in a company, are missing for employees in remote working conditions at home (RQ1)? Which values of organizational culture were predominant during remote work, playing an important role in home office conditions (RQ2)? Which were lacking (RQ3)? To analyze the above issues, this article used both secondary studies of national reports examining remote work, and the author’s pilot study using an online questionnaire. The research results indicated that remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic, in most cases, did not neglect the key values of organizational culture and the involvement of employees. The biggest problem turned out to be cultivating the values primarily responsible for building trust, honesty, and respect, as well as communication and motivation.

Work from home has become a part of everyday life for most of us. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become a necessity rather than a formerly desired benefit. An important part of this way of working is its effect on workers and how workers have handled this phenomenon of modern times. The objective of the paper was to find out how office workers perceived the transition to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper also examined whether office workers perceived higher productivity when working from home and whether they were able to separate private and work life. Data from a questionnaire survey distributed to 33 employees of a project office of the company T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s., who compared their experience with working from home before the pandemic and during the lockdown. The data obtained were then evaluated on the basis of relative frequency. The results show that employees were more productive when working from home, both before the pandemic and during the lockdown. At the same time, most employees did not have problems separating private and work life, unlike working parents, who reported problems related to online education during the lockdown. These findings represent certain benefit for HR departments, who can, based on these findings, decide on the length of working from home. The findings also form a basis for considering how to help employees to adapt to this newly emerged trend. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COVID-19 pandemic ,TELECOMMUTING ,HOME offices ,WORK environment ,EMPLOYEE well-being ,CROWDS ,PRIVACY ,PUBLIC spaces - Abstract
Background: During national lockdowns in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, previously office-based workers who transitioned to home-based teleworking faced additional demands (e.g., childcare, inadequate homeworking spaces) likely resulting in poor work privacy fit. Previous office research suggests poor work privacy fit is associated with lower wellbeing and higher work fatigue. Emerging evidence suggests a relationship between childcare duties during pandemic teleworking and work fatigue. In addition to psychosocial working conditions (job demand, job control, and job change management), which are acknowledged predictors of work fatigue, this poses a significant threat to occupational health during pandemic teleworking. However, the relative effects of aspects of the psychosocial environment (job demands and resources), the home office environment (including privacy fit), and the social environment (childcare) on work fatigue as well as their interactions are under-explored. Objective: This study examined the relationships between the psychosocial, environmental, and social working conditions of teleworking during the first COVID-19 lockdown and work fatigue. Specifically, the study examined teleworkers’ physical work environment (e.g., if and how home office space is shared, crowding, and noise perceptions) as predictors of privacy fit and the relationship between privacy fit, childcare, psychosocial working conditions (job demand, job control, and job change management), and work fatigue. Work privacy fit was hypothesized to mediate the relationship between childcare and work fatigue. Methods: An online cross-sectional survey was conducted with teleworkers (n = 300) during the first COVID-19 lockdown in April and May 2020; most participants were in Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Results: Path analysis was used to examine the hypothesized relationships. Privacy fit was lower for those reporting greater levels of noise in home-working spaces and those feeling crowded at home. Work fatigue was lower amongst those with greater privacy fit and higher amongst those with high levels of job demand. An indirect relationship was observed between childcare and work fatigue with privacy fit mediating this relationship. Conclusion: The influence of privacy fit has so far been largely neglected in research on teleworking, especially during the pandemic. However, its contribution to workers’ wellbeing should be acknowledged in occupational health strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

71. Topologien von Büroarbeit: Raumkonstruktionen in physisch-virtuellen Arbeitsarrangements.
- Author

- Abstract
The article deals with the reconfiguration of space in the context of knowledge work in the information space. This is done along theoretical lines that emphasise the significance of the social construction of spaces and understand space in a relational perspective. Since office work is currently the most affected, at least in terms of the extent of flexibilisation of the place of work, the subject of this paper is how knowledge workers create their working space and what role (working) place plays in this. It is assumed that the immediate surroundings of the concrete workplaces in the information space have an effect on this process. It is also expected that the simultaneity of interwoven workspaces will not remain without consequences. Thus, the paper asks what it means for people to work in them, and what notions of workplaces and collaboration with others they develop. These questions are pursued using case studies from an exploratory study on spatial relations in the world of work during the pandemic as well as two older studies, primarily on the basis of mental maps and interviews. - Abstract
At least since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been much public discussion about the effects of home-based work on employees and whether the increase in home-based work brings new opportunities for gender equity. The present paper ties up to this discourse and asks how working from home is experienced from a gender comparison perspective. The chances and risks of working from home were carved out on the basis of 28 qualitative interviews, which were analyzed by means of Grounded Theory. The key findings of the study are that the same elements of home-based work are perceived as both a burden and a relief, that the experience of home-based work is influenced by both work-related and person-related conditions and that gender inequality in traditional couple relationships with children can be reinforced in home-based work. 73. Grenzen der Virtualisierung?: Zum Wandel von Arbeitskommunikation in ortsungebundener Arbeit.

- Abstract
The COVID-19-Pandemic has led to considerably more remote work, a trend that is likely to continue in the future. Based on 23 narration-oriented interviews with university employees, the article examines how the communication of office workers has changed due to an increasing share of collaboration in spatial distance. The article outlines the functionality of (partially) virtualized communication as well as the changes brought about for work-related and informal exchange between employees. The findings point to significant changes in collaborative work practice: both work process related and informal communication are thinned out, resulting in a more individualized practice of working as well as increasing interpersonal distance in virtual work settings. 75. Home (Office) is where your Heart is: Exploring the Identity of the 'Corporate Nomad' Knowledge Worker Archetype.

- Abstract
Working conditions of knowledge workers have been subject to rapid change recently. Digital nomadism is no longer a phenomenon that relates only to entrepreneurs, freelancers, and gig workers. Corporate employees, too, have begun to uncouple their work from stationary (home) offices and 9-to-5 schedules. However, pursuing a permanent job in a corporate environment is still subject to fundamentally different values than postulated by the original notion of digital nomadism. Therefore, this paper explores the work identity of what is referred to as 'corporate nomads'. By drawing on identity theory and the results of semi-structured interviews, the paper proposes a conceptualization of the corporate nomad archetype and presents nine salient identity issues of corporate nomads (e.g., holding multiple contradictory identities, the flexibility paradox, or collaboration constraints). By introducing the 'corporate nomad' archetype to the Information Systems literature, this article helps to rethink established conceptions of "home office" and socio-spatial configurations of knowledge work. - Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an enforced 'big bang' adoption of working from home, involving the rapid implementation and diffusion of digital collaboration technologies. This radical shift to enforced working from home led to substantial changes in the practice of work. Using a qualitative research approach and drawing on the interview accounts of 29 knowledge workers required to work from home during the pandemic, the study identified five sociomaterial practices that were significantly disrupted and required reconfiguration of their constitutive social and material elements to renew them. The paper further shows evidence of the ongoing evolution of those sociomaterial practices among the participants, as temporary breakdowns in their performance led to further adjustments and fine-tuning. The study extends the body of knowledge on working from home and provides a fine-grained analysis of specific complexities of sociomaterial practice and change as actors utilize conceptual and contextual sensemaking to perceive and exploit possibilities for action in their unfolding practice of work. Against the backdrop of the increasing adoption of hybrid working in the aftermath of the pandemic, the paper offers four pillars derived from the findings that support the establishment of a conducive working from home environment. This paper deals with the topic exhaustion and motivation when working from home. It is the first study from Germany to apply the job demands-resources model of Demerouti and Bakker [1] in the context of home office. By so doing, a deductive approach is followed, and a conceptual model is formed based on a comprehensive literature review with the inclusion of relevant publications up to April 2022. Subsequently, the model is exploratively adapted according to the results and a recommendation for practical action as well as suggestions for future studies are presented. The study was able to provide significant evidence that the communication climate has a positive influence on motivation, the perceived support, the connectedness and the trust between employee and supervisor. Further, trust is influenced by the perceived connectedness with the company. Finally, work pressure in the home office and the lack of segmentation have a positive impact on exhaustion. The Covid-19 virus has triggered a worldwide pandemic and therefore many employees were required to work from home which caused numerous challenges. With the Covid-19 pandemic now in its third year, there are already several studies available on the subject of home offices. To investigate the impact of remote work on employee satisfaction and trust, this quantitative study aims to review existing results and formulate hypotheses based on a conceptual model created through a qualitative study and extensive literature review. The research question is as follows: Does home office during Covid-19 affect employee satisfaction and trust? To test the hypotheses, a structural equation model was constructed and analyzed. The culture of trust and flexibility are identified as the biggest influencing factors in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives This study aimed to investigate (i) the main effects of office design and access to telework from home (TWFH) on self-certified sickness absence and (ii) the moderating effects of access to TWFH on the relationship between office design and self-certified sickness absence. Methods The study used cross-sectional survey data from a nationally representative sample from Norway (N=4329). Research objectives were investigated with negative binomial hurdle models, adjusting for age, gender, education level, leadership responsibility, and time spent on office work. Moderating effects of TWFH were evaluated with pairwise comparisons and plots of estimated marginal means. Results In adjusted models, employees in conventional open-plan offices [odds ratio (OR) 1.32, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.13–1.54] had significantly higher odds of sickness absence than employees in private offices. Employees with access to TWFH (OR 0.86, 95% CI 0.74–0.99) had significantly lower odds of sickness absence than employees with no access. Among employees with access to TWFH, those in conventional open-plan offices had significantly higher predicted probability of self-certified sickness absence than those in private offices (z=4.41, P<0.0001). There were no significant differences between office designs among employees who did not have access to TWFH. There were no significant main or moderating effects on the number of sickness absence episodes in adjusted models. Conclusions The current study identifies conventional open-plan offices as a potential risk factor for sickness absence. While access to TWFH may be a protective factor overall, it amplified – rather than attenuated – differences in sickness absence between employees in private offices and conventional open-plan offices. This research article aims to explore how employees are coping with working from home and provides practical suggestions for employers and managers adapting to the “new normal”. The main contribution of this research lies in the comprehensive integration of various aspects of managing a home office into four strategies, surpassing the findings of prior studies that focused on specific areas. This was achieved through a qualitative descriptive approach. Through semi-structured interviews with employees in the Czech Republic during the COVID-19 pandemic, four distinct employee types (“Working from Home is Not for Me”, “Yin and Yang”, “Holiday with Emergency”, and “Chameleon”) were identified based on their adaptation strategies. These strategies encompass aspects like time management, self- and family management, setting boundaries, task management, stress reduction, and adherence to rules. The article concludes by offering suggestions for more effective collaboration and employee management, taking into consideration their approach to remote work.

COVID-19 ,teleworking ,home office ,office design ,privacy ,psychosocial working conditions ,Psychology ,BF1-990 - Abstract
BackgroundDuring national lockdowns in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, previously office-based workers who transitioned to home-based teleworking faced additional demands (e.g., childcare, inadequate homeworking spaces) likely resulting in poor work privacy fit. However, the relative effects of aspects of the psychosocial environment (job demands and resources), the home office environment (including privacy fit), and the social environment (childcare) on work fatigue as well as their interactions are under-explored.ObjectiveThis study examined the relationships between the psychosocial, environmental, and social working conditions of teleworking during the first COVID-19 lockdown and work fatigue. Work privacy fit was hypothesized to mediate the relationship between childcare and work fatigue.MethodsAn online cross-sectional survey was conducted with teleworkers (n = 300) during the first COVID-19 lockdown in April and May 2020; most participants were in Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.ResultsPath analysis was used to examine the hypothesized relationships. Privacy fit was lower for those reporting greater levels of noise in home-working spaces and those feeling crowded at home. Work fatigue was lower amongst those with greater privacy fit and higher amongst those with high levels of job demand. An indirect relationship was observed between childcare and work fatigue with privacy fit mediating this relationship.ConclusionThe influence of privacy fit has so far been largely neglected in research on teleworking, especially during the pandemic. However, its contribution to workers’ wellbeing should be acknowledged in occupational health strategies.
