We investigate color superconductivity on the lattice using the gap equation for the Cooper pair condensate. The weak coupling analysis is justified by choosing the physical size of the lattice to be smaller than the QCD scale, while keeping the aspect ratio of the lattice small enough to suppress thermal excitations. In the vicinity of the critical coupling constant that separates the superconducting phase and the normal phase, the gap equation can be linearized, and by solving the corresponding eigenvalue problem, we obtain the critical point and the Cooper pair condensate without assuming its explicit form. The momentum components of the condensate suggest spatially isotropic s-wave superconductivity with Cooper pairs formed by quarks near the Fermi surface. The chiral symmetry in the massless limit is spontaneously broken by the Cooper pair condensate, which turns out to be dominated by the scalar and the pseudo-scalar components. The possibility that gauge theories with chiral symmetry breaking exhibit an infrared fixed point is explored. First, explicit symmetry breaking by a quark mass term and renormalisation group arguments, with reasonable assumptions, imply that the quark mass anomalous dimension at the infrared fixed point is $\gamma_* = 1$. Second, the value $\gamma_* = 1$ is compatible with the long-distance interpretation of the adjoint scalar correlation function and leading order chiral perturbation theory. Third, the value $\gamma_* =1$ gives rise to a consistent matching of the trace anomaly and the Feynman-Hellmann theorem. This suggests the following picture for the conformal window. Close to its upper boundary $\gamma_*$ is zero and grows as the number of fermion is reduced until $\gamma_*=1$ is reached where chiral symmetry breaking sets in, marking its lower boundary. In lattice QCD, the calculation of physical quantities from disconnected quark loop calculations have large variance due to the use of Monte Carlo methods for the estimation of the trace of the inverse lattice Dirac operator. In this work, we build upon our POLY and HFPOLY variance reduction methods by using high-degree polynomials. Previously, the GMRES polynomials used were only stable for low-degree polynomials, but through application of a new, stable form of the GMRES polynomial, we have achieved higher polynomial degrees than previously used. While the variance is not dependent on the trace correction term within the methods, the evaluation of this term will be necessary for forming the vacuum expectation value estimates. This requires computing the trace of high-degree polynomials, which can be evaluated stochastically through our new Multipolynomial Monte Carlo method. With these new high-degree noise subtraction polynomials, we obtained a variance reduction for the scalar operator of nearly an order of magnitude over that of no subtraction on a $24^3 \times 32$ quenched lattice at $\beta = 6.0$ and $\kappa = 0.1570 \approx \kappa_{crit}$. Additionally, we observe that for sufficiently high polynomial degrees, POLY and HFPOLY approach the same level of effectiveness. We also explore the viability of using double polynomials for variance reduction as a means of reducing the required orthogonalization and memory costs associated with forming high-degree GMRES polynomials.

We compute the structure-dependent axial and vector form factors for the radiative leptonic decays $D_s\to \ell\nu_\ell\gamma$, where $\ell$ is a charged lepton, as functions of the energy of the photon in the rest frame of the $D_s$ meson. The computation is performed using gauge-field configurations with 2+1+1 sea-quark flavours generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration and the results have been extrapolated to the continuum limit. For the vector form factor we observe a very significant partial cancellation between the contributions from the emission of the photon from the strange quark and that from the charm quark. The results for the form factors are used to test the reliability of various Anz\"atze based on single-pole dominance and its extensions, and we present a simple parametrization of the form factors which fits our data very well and which can be used in future phenomenological analyses. Using the form factors we compute the differential decay rate and the branching ratio for the process $D_s\to e\nu_e\gamma$ as a function of the lower cut-off on the photon energy. With a cut-off of 10 MeV for example, we find a branching ratio of Br$(E_\gamma>10\,\mathrm{MeV})=4.4(3)\times 10^{-6}$ which, unlike some model calculations, is consistent with the upper bound from the BESIII experiment Br$(E_\gamma>10\,\mathrm{MeV}), Comment: 31 pages, 14 figures

We consider the $U(1)$ gauge theory on a four-dimensional torus, where the instanton number is restricted to an integral multiple of $p$. This theory possesses the nontrivial higher-group structure, which can be regarded as a generalization of the Green--Schwarz mechanism, between $\mathbb{Z}_q$ $1$-form and $\mathbb{Z}_p$ $3$-form symmetries. Here, $\mathbb{Z}_q$ is a subgroup of the center of~$U(1)$. Efficient digitization is required for quantum simulations of gauge theories. Schemes based on discrete subgroups use a smaller, fixed number of qubits at the cost of systematic errors. We systematize this approach by deriving the single plaquette action through matching the continuous group action to that of a discrete one via group character expansions modulo the field fluctuation contributions. We accompany this scheme by simulations of pure gauge over the largest discrete crystal-like subgroup of $SU(3)$ up to the fifth-order in the coupling constant., 6 pages, 1 figure

The gradient flow exact renormalization group (GFERG) is an idea that incorporates gauge invariant gradient flows into the formalism of the exact renormalization group (ERG). GFERG introduces a Wilson action with a cutoff while keeping vector gauge invariance manifestly. The details of the formalism are still to be worked out. In this paper, we apply GFERG to construct the Wilson action of massless Dirac fermions under the background chiral gauge fields. By formulating the chiral anomaly as a ``composite operator,'' we make the scale invariance of the anomaly manifest. We argue that the same result extends to QCD., 25 pages

This work presents the first lattice-QCD calculation of the twist-3 axial quark GPDs for the proton using the large-momentum effective theory approach. We calculate matrix elements with momentum-boosted proton states and a non-local axial operator. The calculation is performed using one ensemble of two degenerate light, a strange and a charm quark ($N_f=2+1+1$) of maximally twisted mass fermions with a clover term. The ensemble has a volume $32^3\times64$, lattice spacing 0.0934 fm, and corresponds to a pion mass of 260 MeV. The matrix elements are calculated for three values of the proton momentum, namely 0.83, 1.25, and 1.67 GeV. The light-cone GPDs are defined in the symmetric frame, which we implement here with a (negative) 4-momentum transfer squared of 0.69, 1.38, and 2.76 GeV$^2$, all at zero skewness. We also conduct several consistency checks, including assessing the local limit of the twist-3 GPDs and examining the Burkhardt-Cottingham-type as well as Efremov-Teryaev-Leader-type sum rules., 22 pages, 17 figures

We study the entanglement entropy in lattice field theory using a simulation algorithm based on Jarzynski's theorem. We focus on the entropic c-function for the Ising model in two and in three dimensions: after validating our algorithm against known analytical results from conformal field theory in two dimensions, we present novel results for the three-dimensional case. We show that our algorithm, which is highly parallelized on graphics processing units, allows one to precisely determine the subleading corrections to the area law, which have been investigated in many recent works. The Refined Gribov-Zwanziger (RGZ) action in the Landau gauge accounts for the existence of infinitesimal Gribov copies as well as the dynamical formation of condensates in the infrared of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories. We couple scalar fields to the RGZ action and compute the one-loop scalar propagator in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. We compare our findings with existing lattice data. The fate of BRST symmetry in this model is discussed, and we provide a comparison to a previous proposal for a non-minimal coupling between matter and the RGZ action. We find good agreement with the lattice data of the scalar propagator for the values of the mass parameters that fit the RGZ gluon propagator to the lattice. This suggests that the non-perturbative information carried by the gluon propagator in the RGZ framework provides a suitable mechanism to reproduce the behavior of correlation functions of colored matter fields in the infrared., 18 pages + refs.; 6 figures

We provide evidence for partial deconfinement -- the deconfinement of a SU($M$) subgroup of the SU($N$) gauge group -- by using lattice Monte Carlo simulations. We take matrix models as concrete examples. By appropriately fixing the gauge, we observe that the $M\times M$ submatrices deconfine. The gauge-invariant two-point function of the Higgs field at the same spacetime point can make a natural gauge-invariant order parameter for spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking. However, this composite operator is ultraviolet divergent and is not well defined. We propose using a gradient flow to cure the divergence from putting the fields at the same spacetime point. As a first step, we compute it for the Abelian Higgs model with a positive mass squared at the one-loop order in the continuum theory using the saddle-point method to estimate the finite part. We show that numerical computations based on tensor renormalization group (TRG) methods can be significantly accelerated with PyTorch on graphics processing units (GPUs) by leveraging NVIDIA's Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). We find improvement in the runtime and its scaling with bond dimension for two-dimensional systems. Glueballs are investigated through gluonic operators on two RBC/UKQCD gauge ensembles at the physical pion mass. The statistical errors of glueball correlation functions are considerably reduced through the cluster decomposition error reduction (CDER) method. The Bethe-Salpeter wave functions are obtained for the scalar, tensor, and pseudoscalar glueballs by using spatially extended glueball operators defined through the gauge potential in the Coulomb gauge. These wave functions exhibit similar features of non-relativistic two-gluon systems and are used to optimize the signals of the related correlation functions at the early time regions, where the ground state masses are extracted. These masses are close to those from the quenched approximation and indicate the possible existence of glueballs at the physical point. The resonance feature of glueballs and the mixing with conventional mesons and multi-hadron systems should be considered in a more systematic lattice study.

Sampling topological quantities in the Monte Carlo simulation of Lattice Gauge Theory becomes challenging as we approach the continuum limit of the theory. In this work, we introduce a Conditional Normalizing Flow (C-NF) model to sample U(1) gauge theory in two dimensions, aiming to mitigate the impact of topological freezing when dealing with smaller values of the U(1) bare coupling. To train the conditional flow model, we utilize samples generated by Hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) method, ensuring that the autocorrelation in topological quantities remains low. Subsequently, we employ the trained model to interpolate the coupling parameter to values where training was not performed. We thoroughly examine the quality of the model in this region and generate uncorrelated samples, significantly reducing the occurrence of topological freezing. Furthermore, we propose a re-trainable approach that utilizes the model's own samples to enhance the generalization capability of the conditional model. This method enables sampling for coupling values that are far beyond the initial training region, expanding the applicability of the model.

The complex Langevin (CL) method is a promising approach to overcome the sign problem that occurs in real-time formulations of quantum field theories. Using the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism, we study SU($N_c$) gauge theories with CL. We observe that current stabilization techniques are insufficient to obtain correct results. Therefore, we revise the discretization of the CL equations on complex time contours, find a time reflection symmetric formulation and introduce a novel anisotropic kernel that enables CL simulations on discretized complex time paths. Applying it to SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in 3+1 dimensions, we obtain unprecedentedly stable results that we validate using additional observables and that can be systematically improved. For the first time, we are able to simulate non-Abelian gauge theory on time contours whose real-time extent exceeds its inverse temperature. Thus, our approach may pave the way towards an ab-initio real-time framework of QCD in and out of equilibrium with a potentially large impact on the phenomenology of heavy-ion collisions., 28 pages + references and appendices, 7 figures, 1 table; v2: revised, data and plot files attached, published version

A partial width formula is proposed using the analytical extension of the wave function in momentum space. The distinction of the Riemann sheets is explained from the perspective of the Schrodinger equation. The analytical form in coordinate space and the partial width are derived subsequently. Then a coupled-channel analysis is performed to investigate the open-charm branching ratios of the $P_c$ states, involving the contact interactions and one-pion-exchange potential with the three-body effects. The low energy constants are fitted using the experimental masses and widths as input. The $P_c(4312)$ is found to decay mainly to $\Lambda_c\bar{D}^*$, while the branching ratios of the $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$ in different channels are comparable. Under the reasonable assumption that the off-diagonal contact interactions are small, the $J^P$ quantum numbers of the $P_c(4440)$ and the $P_c(4457)$ prefer $\frac{1}{2}^-$ and $\frac{3}{2}^-$ respectively. Three additional $P_c$ states at 4380 MeV, 4504 MeV and 4516 MeV, together with their branching ratios, are predicted. Model averaging is a useful and robust method for dealing with model uncertainty in statistical analysis. Often, it is useful to consider data subset selection at the same time, in which model selection criteria are used to compare models across different subsets of the data. Two different criteria have been proposed in the literature for how the data subsets should be weighted. We compare the two criteria closely in a unified treatment based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence, and conclude that one of them is subtly flawed and will tend to yield larger uncertainties due to loss of information. Off-central heavy-ion collisions are known to feature magnetic fields with magnitudes and characteristic gradients corresponding to the scale of the strong interactions. In this work, we employ equilibrium lattice simulations of the underlying theory, QCD, involving similar inhomogeneous magnetic field profiles to achieve a better understanding of this system. We simulate three flavors of dynamical staggered quarks with physical masses at a range of magnetic fields and temperatures, and extrapolate the results to the continuum limit. Analyzing the impact of the field on the quark condensate and the Polyakov loop, we find non-trivial spatial features that render the QCD medium qualitatively different as in the homogeneous setup, especially at temperatures around the transition. In addition, we construct leading-order chiral perturbation theory for the inhomogeneous background and compare its prediction to our lattice results at low temperature. Our findings will be useful to benchmark effective theories and low-energy models of QCD for a better description of peripheral heavy-ion collisions., 24 pages, 15 figures

A novel approach is proposed to link the charge symmetry breaking (CSB) nuclear interaction and the low-energy constants in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) for the first time by matching the CSB effect in nuclear matter. Resulting CSB interaction is applied to study the Okamoto-Nolen-Schiffer anomaly on the energy differences of mirror nuclei by taking $ {}^{17} \mathrm{F} $-$ {}^{17} \mathrm{O} $, $ {}^{15} \mathrm{O} $-$ {}^{15} \mathrm{N} $, $ {}^{41} \mathrm{Sc} $-$ {}^{41} \mathrm{Ca} $, and $ {}^{39} \mathrm{Ca} $-$ {}^{39} \mathrm{K} $ as typical examples. We compute the sphaleron rate in quenched QCD for a temperature $T \simeq 1.24~T_c$ from the inversion of the Euclidean lattice time correlator of the topological charge density. We explore and compare two different strategies: one follows a new approach proposed in this study and consists in extracting the rate from finite lattice spacing correlators, and then in taking the continuum limit at fixed smoothing radius followed by a zero-smoothing extrapolation; the other follows the traditional approach of extracting the rate after performing such double extrapolation directly on the correlator. In both cases the rate is obtained from a recently-proposed modification of the standard Backus-Gilbert procedure. The two strategies lead to compatible estimates within errors, which are then compared to previous results in the literature at the same or similar temperatures; the new strategy permits to obtain improved results, in terms of statistical and systematic uncertainties., 11 pages, 12 eps figures

The nuclear liquid-gas transition from a gas of hadrons to a nuclear phase cannot be determined numerically from conventional lattice QCD due to the severe sign problem at large values of the baryon chemical potential. In the strong coupling regime of lattice QCD with staggered quarks, the dual formulation is suitable to address the nuclear liquid gas transition. We determine this first order transition at low temperatures and as a function of the quark mass and the inverse gauge coupling $\beta$. We investigate the $Z_b$, $Z_c$ and $Z_{cs}$ states within the chiral effective field theory framework and the $S$-wave single channel molecule picture. With the complex scaling method, we accurately solve the Schr\"odinger equation in momentum space. Our analysis reveals that the $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_c(4020)$ states are the resonances composed of the $S-$wave $(B\bar{B}^{*}+B^{*}\bar{B})/\sqrt{2}$, $B^{*}\bar{B}^*$, $(D\bar{D}^{*}+D^{*}\bar{D})/\sqrt{2}$ and $D^{*}\bar{D}^*$, respectively. Furthermore, although the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ and $Z_{cs}(4000)$ states exhibit a significant difference in width, these two resonances may originate from the same channel, the $S-$wave $(D_{s}\bar{D}^{*}+D_{s}^{*}\bar{D})/\sqrt{2}$. Additionally, we find two resonances in the $S-$wave $D_s^*\bar{D}^*$ channel, corresponding to the $Z_{cs}(4123)$ and $Z_{cs}(4220)$ states that await experimental confirmation., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, 4 tables

We present a nonperturbative recipe for directly computing the $S$-matrix in strongly-coupled QFTs. The method makes use of spectral data obtained in a Hamiltonian framework and can be applied to a wide range of theories, including potentially QCD. We demonstrate the utility of this prescription in the specific example of the 2+1d $O(N)$ model at large $N$, using energy eigenstates computed with Hamiltonian truncation to reproduce the full $2 \to 2$ scattering amplitude for arbitrary (complex) center-of-mass energy., 28 pages with appendices, 12 figures

We present a method for analytic continuation of retarded Green functions, including Euclidean Green functions computed using lattice QCD. The method is based on conformal maps and construction of an interpolation function which is analytic in the upper half plane. A novel aspect of our method is rigorous bounding of systematic uncertainties, which are handled by constructing the full space of interpolating functions (at each point in the upper half-plane) consistent with the given Euclidean data and the constraints of analyticity. We study $4$-dimensional $SU(N)\times U(1)$ gauge theories with a single massless Dirac fermion in the $2$-index symmetric/antisymmetric representations and show that they are endowed with a noninvertible $0$-form $\widetilde {\mathbb Z}_{2(N\pm 2)}^{\chi}$ chiral symmetry along with a $1$-form $\mathbb Z_N^{(1)}$ center symmetry. By using the Hamiltonian formalism and putting the theory on a spatial three-torus $\mathbb T^3$, we construct the non-unitary gauge invariant operator corresponding to $\widetilde {\mathbb Z}_{2(N\pm 2)}^{\chi}$ and find that it acts nontrivially in sectors of the Hilbert space characterized by selected magnetic fluxes. When we subject $\mathbb T^3$ to $\mathbb Z_N^{(1)}$ twists, for $N$ even, in selected magnetic flux sectors, the algebra of $\widetilde {\mathbb Z}_{2(N\pm 2)}^{\chi}$ and $\mathbb Z_N^{(1)}$ fails to commute by a $\mathbb Z_2$ phase. We interpret this noncommutativity as a mixed anomaly between the noninvertible and the $1$-form symmetries. The anomaly implies that all states in the torus Hilbert space with the selected magnetic fluxes exhibit a two-fold degeneracy for arbitrary $\mathbb T^3$ size. The degenerate states are labeled by discrete electric fluxes and are characterized by nonzero expectation values of condensates., Comment: 18 pages

We address the nonperturbative calculation of the inclusive decay rate of semileptonic $B_{(s)}$-meson decays from lattice QCD. Precise Standard-Model predictions are key ingredients in searches for new physics, and this type of computation may eventually provide new insight into the long-standing tension between the inclusive and exclusive determinations of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$. We present results from a pilot lattice computation for $B_s \rightarrow X_c\, l \nu_l$, where the initial $b$ quark described by the relativistic-heavy-quark (RHQ) formalism on the lattice and the other valence quarks discretised with domain-wall fermions are simulated approximately at their physical quark masses. We compare two different methods for computing the decay rate from lattice data of Euclidean $n$-point functions, namely Chebyshev and Backus-Gilbert approaches. We further study how much the ground-state meson dominates the inclusive decay rate and indicate our strategy towards a computation with a more comprehensive systematic error budget., Comment: 43 pages, 18 figures

Semidefinite programs can be constructed to provide a non-perturbative view of the zero-temperature behavior of quantum systems. Using proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies $7$, $8$, and $13$ TeV, with a total integrated luminosity of $9\,\text{fb}^{-1}$, the LHCb collaboration has performed amplitude analyses of the $B^+\to D^+D^-K^+$, $B^+\to D^- D_s^+ \pi^+$ and $B^0\to \bar{D}^0 D_s^+ \pi^-$ decays, observing that new $T_{cs}$ and $T_{c\bar s}$ resonances are required in order to explain the experimental data. These signals could be the first observation of tetraquark candidates that do not contain a heavy quark-antiquark pair; in fact, they consist of four different flavours of quarks, one of which is a doubly charged open-charm state. We present herein an analysis of the $T_{cs}$ and $T_{c\bar s}$ states, which is an extension of our recently published study of similar $T_{cc}^+$ exotic candidates. Our theoretical framework is a constituent-quark-model-based coupled-channels calculation of $qq^\prime \bar s \bar c$ and $cq\bar s\bar q^{\prime}$ tetraquark sectors for $T_{cs}$ and $T_{c\bar s}$ structures, respectively. We explore the nature, and pole position, of the singularities that appear in the scattering matrix with spin-parity quantum numbers: $J^P=0^\pm$, $1^\mp$, and $2^\pm$. The constituent quark model has been widely used in the heavy quark sector, and thus all model parameters are already constrained from previous works. This makes our predictions robust and parameter-free. We find many singularities in the solution of various scattering-matrix problems which are either virtual states or resonances, but not bound states. Some of them fit well with the experimental observations of the spin-parity, mass and width of $T_{cs}$ and $T_{c\bar s}$ candidates, and thus tentative assignments are made; however, with caution, because the experimental Breit-Wigner parameters are related to the pole characteristics., Comment: 10 pages, 4 tables

We introduce a Metropolis-Hastings Markov chain for Boltzmann distributions of classical spin systems. It relies on approximate tensor network contractions to propose correlated collective updates at each step of the evolution. We present benchmarks for a wide variety of instances of the two-dimensional Ising model, including ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, (fully) frustrated and Edwards-Anderson spin glass cases, and we show that, with modest computational effort, our Markov chain achieves sizeable acceptance rates, even in the vicinity of critical points. In each of the situations we have considered, the Markov chain compares well with other Monte Carlo schemes such as the Metropolis or Wolff algorithm: equilibration times appear to be reduced by a factor that varies between 40 and 2000, depending on the model and the observable being monitored. We also present an extension to three spatial dimensions, and demonstrate that it exhibits fast equilibration for finite ferro and antiferromagnetic instances. Additionally, and although it is originally designed for a square lattice of finite degrees of freedom with open boundary conditions, the proposed scheme can be used as such, or with slight modifications, to study triangular lattices, systems with continuous degrees of freedom, matrix models, a confined gas of hard spheres, or to deal with arbitrary boundary conditions., Comment: 21 pages, 25 figures

Quantum simulation is one of the major applications of quantum devices. In the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era, however, the general quantum simulation is not yet feasible, such as that of lattice gauge theories, which is likely limited due to the violation of the Gauss law constraint and the complexity of the real-time dynamics, especially in the deconfined phase. Inspired by the recent works of S. Ashkenazi and E. Zohar [Phys. Rev. A 105, 022431 (2022)] and of N. Tantivasadakarn, R. Thorngren, A. Vishwanath, and R. Verresen [arXiv: 2112.01519], we propose to simulate dynamics of lattice gauge theories by using the Kramers-Wannier transfomation via cluster-state-like entanglers, mid-circuit measurements and feedforwarded corrections, which altogether is a constant-depth deterministic operation. In our scheme, specifically, we first quantum simulate the time evolution under a corresponding symmetric Hamiltonian from an initial symmetric state, and then apply the Kramers-Wannier procedure. This results in a wave function that has time evolved under the corresponding lattice gauge theory from a corresponding initial, gauged wave function. In the presence of noises in time evolution, the procedure succeeds when we can pair up magnetic monopoles represented by non-trivial measurement outcomes. Further, given a noise-free Kramers-Wannier transformation, the resulting wave function from a noisy time evolution satisfies the Gauss law constraint. We give explicit examples with the low dimensional pure gauge theories and gauge theories coupled to bosonic/fermionic matters such as the Fradkin-Shenker model., 25 pages, 16 figures

Staple-shaped Wilson line operators are necessary for the study of transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) in lattice QCD and beyond. In this work, we study the renormalization of such operators in the general case of an asymmetric staple. We analyze the mixing pattern of these operators using their symmetry properties, where we find that the possible mixing is restricted within groups of four operators. We then present numerical results using the regularization independent scheme, RI/MOM, to study the importance of mixing using one operator in particular, the $\gamma_0$ operator. Based on these results, we consider the short distance ratio (SDR) scheme, which is desirable in the absence of mixing. Finally, we investigate a variant of the RI/MOM scheme, where the renormalization factors are computed at short distances., Comment: 18 pages, 14 figures

Quantum simulation has become a promising avenue of research that allows one to simulate and gain insight into the models of High Energy Physics whose experimental realizations are either complicated or inaccessible with current technology. We demonstrate the quantum simulation of such a model, a quantum mechanical system with spatial noncommutativity, which is inspired by the works in Noncommutative Geometry and Noncommutative Field theory for a universal quantum computer. We use the novel group theoretical formalism to map the Hamiltonian of such a noncommutative quantum system into the ordinary quantum mechanical Hamiltonian and then carry out the quantum simulation using the Trotter-Suzuki product formula. For the first time, we present a lattice QCD determination of Mellin moments of unpolarized generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the proton from an analysis of the quasi-GPD matrix elements within the short-distance factorization framework. We perform our calculation on an $N_f$=2+1+1 twisted mass fermions ensemble with a clover improvement at lattice spacing $a=0.093$ fm and a pion mass of $m_\pi=260$ MeV. Focusing on the zero-skewness case, the iso-vector and iso-scalar quasi-GPDs are calculated from the $\gamma_0$ definition, as well as a recently proposed Lorentz-invariant definition. We utilize data on both symmetric and asymmetric kinematic frames, which allows us to obtain the Mellin moments for several values of the momentum transfer, $-t$, in the range 0.17 to $2.77~\rm{GeV}^2$. We use the ratio scheme for GPDs, i.e. renormalization group invariant ratios with leading-twist factorization formula and perturbatively calculated matching coefficients up to the next-next-to-leading order (NNLO) to extract Mellin moments of GPDs, which are consistent with renormalization-group improved results. We compare our determination from quasi-GPDs with the results extracted using standard calculations of Mellin moments of local operators, specifically those related to the electromagnetic and gravitational form factors. We estimated the moments of GPDs up to the fifth ones for the first time. By extrapolating the Mellin moments to $-t=0$, we obtained the quark charges, momentum fraction, as well as the angular momentum contributions to the proton spin. The impact parameter space interpretation of the GPD moments is discussed, which provides insights into the spatial distribution of unpolarized quarks and their correlations in the transverse plane of an unpolarized or transversely polarized proton., Comment: 28 pages, 22 figures

Macroscopic properties of the strong interaction near its chiral phase transition exhibit scaling behaviors, which are the same as those observed close to the magnetic transition in a 3-dimensional classical spin system with $O(4)$ symmetry. We show that the universal scaling properties of the chiral phase transition in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) at the macroscale are, in fact, encoded within the microscopic energy levels of its fundamental constituents, the quarks. We establish a connection between the cumulants of the chiral order parameter, i.e., the chiral condensate, and the correlations among the energy levels of quarks, i.e., the eigenspectra of the massless QCD Dirac operator. This relation elucidates how the fluctuations of the chiral condensate arise from the correlations within the infrared part of the energy spectra of quarks, and naturally leads to a generalization of the Banks-Casher relation for the cumulants of the chiral condensate. Then, through (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD calculations with varying light quark masses near the QCD chiral transition, we demonstrate that the correlations among the infrared part of the Dirac eigenvalue spectra exhibit same universal scaling behaviors as expected of the cumulants of the chiral condensate. We find that these universal scaling behaviors extend up to the physical values of the up and down quark masses. New thermal phase of QCD, featuring scale invariance in the infrared (IR), was proposed to exist both in the pure-glue (N$_f$=0) and the ``real-world" (N$_f$=2+1) settings. Among key aspects of the proposal is that the system in this {\em IR phase} separates into two independent components: the scale-invariant IR part and the non-invariant bulk. Such scenario requires non-analyticities in the theory and, in case of pure-glue QCD, they were found to arise via Anderson-like mobility edges in Dirac spectra ($\lambda_\fir \!=\! 0$, $\pm \lambda_\text{A} \!\neq\! 0$) manifested in dimension function $d_\fir(\lambda)$. Here we present first evidence that this mechanism is also at work in ``real-world QCD" (N$_f$=2+1 theory at physical quark masses and $a\!=\!0.105\,$fm), supporting the existence of the proposed IR regime. In double parton scattering (DPS), two partonic collisions take place between one pair of colliding hadrons. The effect of DPS can be significant for precision measurements due to the additional radiation from secondary partonic collisions, and especially for specific processes such as same-sign WW production. Its effect is usually included through Monte Carlo parton showers. In a factorization approach to DPS, the initial state is described by double parton distributions (DPDs). These are currently poorly constrained by experiment, but provide a view on interesting correlations between partons in the hadron. Here we show that the Large Momentum Effective Theory approach can be applied to DPDs. Specifically, we present a general matching relation between DPDs and lattice-calculable quasi-DPDs for general flavor, spin and color structures. We furthermore calculate the one-loop matching coefficients for the quark-quark DPDs, verifying that the infrared logarithms and divergences cancel in the matching. While we restrict to the flavor-non-singlet case, we do take color and spin correlations into account. Interestingly, quasi-DPDs combines nontrivial features from both the collinear and transverse momentum dependent quasi-parton distribution functions. This represents a first step in extending the quasi-PDF approach to DPDs, opening up a new way to constrain these distributions using lattice QCD., 33 pages plus appendices, 3 figures, 1 table

The carbon atom provides the backbone for the complex organic chemistry composing the building blocks of life. The physics of the carbon nucleus in its predominant isotope, $^{12}$C, is similarly full of multifaceted complexity. Some nuclear states of $^{12}$C can be preferentially treated as a collection of independent particles held by the mean field of the nucleus, while other states behave more as a collection of three alpha-particle clusters. But these two pictures are not mutually exclusive, and some states can be described in either fashion$^{1,2}$. In this work, we provide the first model-independent tomographic scan of the three-dimensional geometry of the nuclear states of $^{12}$C using the {\it ab initio} framework of nuclear lattice effective field theory. We find that the well-known but enigmatic Hoyle state is composed of a "bent-arm" or obtuse triangular arrangement of alpha clusters. We identify all of the low-lying nuclear states of $^{12}$C as having an intrinsic shape composed of three alpha clusters forming either an equilateral triangle or an obtuse triangle. From these basic structural formations, the various nuclear states correspond to different rotational and vibrational excitations as well as either distortions or large-amplitude displacements of the alpha clusters. The states with the equilateral triangle formation also have a dual description in terms of particle-hole excitations in the mean-field picture. We compare our theoretical calculations with experimental data for binding energies, quadrupole moments, electromagnetic transitions, charge densities, and form factors. We present a detailed scheme for the implementation of $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge theories with dynamical bosonic matter using analog quantum simulators based on crystals of trapped ions. We introduce a versatile toolbox based on a state-dependent parametric excitation, which can be implemented using different interactions that couple the ions' internal qubit states to their motion, and induces a tunneling of the vibrational excitations of the crystal mediated by the trapped-ion qubits. To evaluate the feasibility of this toolbox, we perform numerical simulations of the considered schemes using realistic experimental parameters. This building block, when implemented with a single trapped ion, corresponds to a minimal $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge theory on a synthetic link where the qubit resides, playing the role of the gauge field. The vibrational excitations of the ion along different trap axes mimic the dynamical matter fields carrying a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ charge. We discuss how to generalise this minimal case to more complex settings by increasing the number of ions. We describe various possibilities which allow us to move from a single $\mathbb{Z}_2$ plaquette to full $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge chains. We present analytical expressions for the gauge-invariant dynamics and confinement, which are benchmarked using matrix product state simulations.

We show that an infinitesimal step of gradient flow can be used for defining a novel approach for computing gradients of physical observables with respect to action parameters. Compared to the commonly-used perturbative expansion, this approach does not require calculating any disconnected contribution or vacuum expectation value and can provide results up to three orders of magnitudes more precise. On the other hand, it requires a non-trivial condition to be satisfied by the flow action, the calculation of its force and its Laplacian, and of the force of the operator, whose gradient needs to be measured. As a proof of concept, we measure gradients in $\beta$ of Wilson loops in a four-dimensional SU(3) Yang-Mills theory simulated on a $16^4$ lattice using the standard Wilson action., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

According to general understanding, the proton as one of the main ingredients of the nucleus is composed of one down and two up quarks bound together by gluons, described by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). In this view, heavy quarks do not contribute to the primary wave function of the proton. Heavy quarks arise in the proton perturbatively by gluon splitting and the probability gradually increases as $Q^2$ increases (extrinsic heavy quarks). In addition, the existence of non-perturbative intrinsic charm quarks in the proton has also been predicted by QCD. In this picture, the heavy quarks also exist in the proton's wave function. In fact, the wave function has a five-quark structure $ \vert u u d c \bar{c}\rangle $ in addition to the three-quark bound state $ \vert u u d\rangle $. So far, many studies have been done to confirm or reject this additional component. One of the recent studies has been done by the NNPDF collaboration. They established the existence of an intrinsic charm component at the 3-standard-deviation level in the proton from the structure function measurements. Most of the studies performed to calculate the contribution of the intrinsic charm so far have been based on the global analyses of the experimental data. In this article, for the first time we directly calculate this contribution by using QCD sum rules. We estimate a $x^{c\bar{c}} = (1.36 \pm 0.67)\% $ contribution for the $ \vert u u d c \bar{c}\rangle $ component of the proton., 6 Pages and 2 Figures

Vielbeins are necessary when coupling General Relativity (GR) to fermionic matter. This enhances the gauge group of GR to include local Lorentz transformations. In view of a reduced phase space formulation of quantum gravity, in this work we completely gauge fix that Lorentz gauge symmetry by using a so-called triangular gauge. Having solved the Gauss constraints already classically opens access to new Hilbert space representations which are free of the complications that otherwise arise due to a non Abelian gauge symmetry. In that sense, a connection formulation as being pursued in Loop Quantum Gravity is no longer the only practicable option and other less dimension dependent representations e.g. based on triads and even metrics suggest themselves. These formulations make it easier to identify states representing non-degenerate quantum geometries and thus to investigate the hypersurface deformation algebra which implicitly assumes non-degeneracy.

In this work we study the influence of external electric field and temperature on the chiral phase transition of Quantum Chromodynamics. We use the two-flavor Linear Sigma Model coupled with quarks (LSMq) in a thermal and electrized medium to evaluate the effective quark mass and the Schwinger pair production. To this end, we apply one-loop correction to the fermionic sector of the model and the simple tree-level approximation in the mesonic contributions. The electric fields strengthen the partial restoration of the chiral symmetry when applied with finite temperature in a crossover transition. The expected decrease of the pseudocritical temperature as a function of the electric field is observed until electric fields reach $eE\approx 13.5 m_{\pi}^2$. For stronger electric fields, the effect is the opposite, which is in a very good agreement with previous results obtained with four-point non-renormalizable models, showing that this effect is independent of renormalizability issues. We also show the thermal and electric effects on the behavior of the Schwinger pair production.

There has been growing interest in the near-threshold production of heavy quarkonium which can access the gluonic structure in the nucleon. Previously we studied this process with quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and showed that it can be factorized with the gluon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in the heavy quark limit. We further argued that the hadronic matrix element is dominated by its leading moments corresponding to the gluonic gravitational form factors (GFFs) in this limit. Since then, there have been many new developments on this subject. More experimental measurements have been made and published, and the lattice simulation of gluonic GFFs has been improved as well. In this work, we make an important revision to a previous result and perform an updated analysis with the new inputs. We also study the importance of the large momentum transfer to extract these gluonic structures reliably in this framework., 8 figures, 2 tables

It is generally believed that the 1+1D model for a single chiral fermion does not exist by itself alone on lattice. The obstruction to such a lattice realization is the failure to reproduce the quantum anomalies of a chiral fermion in continuum. The conventional way to escape is to associate the anomalous 1d system with a 2d bulk, which is in a topologically non-trivial state, as the boundary of the latter. In this paper, we propose a 1+1D chiral fermion model on 1d spatial lattice, {standing alone} -- without being associated with a 2d bulk -- with a simple {non-Hermitian} hopping Hamiltonian. We demonstrate, using various methods, that the model possesses the same chiral anomaly and gravitational anomaly as in continuum theory. Furthermore, with appropriate parameters, the low energy effective theory of the model remains a field theory for unitary chiral fermions. The essential reason for the success is that the usual "doubled" fermion mode with opposite chirality is rapidly damped out because of non-Hermicity of the Hamiltonian., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures. We perform a Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) evaluation of composite scalar boson masses in order to verify how these masses can be smaller than the composition scale. The calculation is developed with a constituent self-energy dependent on its mass anomalous dimension ($\gamma$), and we obtain a relation showing how the scalar mass decreases as $\gamma$ is increased. We also discuss how fermionic corrections to the BSE kernel shall decrease the scalar mass, whose effect can be as important as the one of a large $\gamma$. Schr\"odinger operators often display singularities at the origin, the Coulomb problem in atomic physics or the various matter coupling terms in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker problem being prominent examples. For various applications it would be desirable to have at one's disposal an explicit basis spanning a dense and invariant domain for such types of Schr\"odinger operators, for instance stationary perturbation theory or the Raleigh-Ritz method. Here we make the observation, that not only a such basis can indeed be provided but that in addition relevant matrix elements and inner products can be computed analytically in closed form, thus providing the required data e.g. for an analytical Gram-Schmid orthonormalisation., Comment: 9 pages

Finite-volume pionless effective field theory (FVEFT$_{ \pi\!/ }$) at next-to-leading order (NLO) is used to analyze the two-nucleon lattice QCD spectrum of Ref.~\cite{Amarasinghe:2021lqa}, performed at quark masses corresponding to a pion mass of approximately $800 $ MeV. Specifically, the effective theory is formulated in finite volume, and variational sets of wave functions are optimized using differential programming. Using these wave functions projected to the appropriate finite-volume symmetry group, variational bounds from FVEFT$_{\pi\!/ }$ are obtained for the ground state, as well as excited states. By comparison with the lattice QCD GEVP spectrum, different low energy constants (LECs) are constrained. Relativistic corrections are incorporated, allowing for the extractions of NLO LECs, as well as the leading $s$-$d$-wave mixing term in the deuteron channel., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figs, 2 tables

In this paper, we introduce a tensor network (TN) scheme into the entanglement augmentation process of the synergistic optimization framework [arXiv: 2208.13673] by Rudolph et al. to build its process systematically for inhomogeneous systems. Our synergistic first embeds the variational optimal solution of the TN state with the entropic area law, which can be perfectly optimized in conventional (classical) computers, in a quantum variational circuit ansatz inspired by the TN state with the entropic volume law. Next, the framework performs a variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) process with the embedded states as the initial state. We applied the synergistic to the ground state analysis of the all-to-all coupled random transverse-field Ising/XYZ/Heisenberg model, employing the binary multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) state and branching MERA states as TN states with the entropic area law and volume law, respectively. We then show that the synergistic accelerates VQE calculations in the three models without initial parameter guess of the branching-MERA-inspired ansatz and can avoid a local solution trapped by a standard VQE with the ansatz in the Ising model. Improvement of optimizer for MERA in the all-to-all coupled inhomogeneous systems, enhancement and potential applications of the synergistic are also discussed., 12 pages, 8 figures

Quantum link models (QLMs) offer the realistic prospect for the practical implementation of lattice quantum electrodynamics (QED) on modern quantum simulators, and they provide a venue for exploring various nonergodic phenomena relevant to quantum many-body physics. In these models, gauge and electric fields are represented by spin-$S$ operators. So far, large-scale realizations of QLMs have been restricted to $S=1/2$ representations, whereas the lattice-QED limit is approached at $S\to\infty$. Here, we present a bosonic mapping for the representation of gauge and electric fields with effective spin-$S$ operators for arbitrarily large values of $S$. Based on this mapping, we then propose an experimental scheme for the realization of a large-scale spin-$1$ $\mathrm{U}(1)$ QLM using spinless bosons in an optical superlattice. Using perturbation theory and infinite matrix product state calculations, which work directly in the thermodynamic limit, we demonstrate the faithfulness of the mapping and stability of gauge invariance throughout all accessible evolution times. We further demonstrate the potential of our proposed quantum simulator to address relevant high-energy physics by probing the (de)confinement of an electron--positron pair by tuning the gauge coupling.
