The Developmental Democratic Planning (DDP) model frames educational planning as a process that extends beyond the immediate focus of a particular planning effort to acknowledge and cultivate the potential of all members of the organization to fulfill their roles as active participants in the democratic life of the organization. The DDP model construes educational planning efforts as a vehicle for enacting organizational change. To create a democratic planning culture, educational leaders cultivate and promote approaches to organizational leadership and planning that include (1) the leadership dispositions of hospitality, participation, mindfulness, humility; and (2) the organizational dispositions of mutuality, appreciation, and autonomy.

Democratic education focuses on developing students using democratic principles and processes in the classroom. In this study, we aim to understand how self-identified democratic educators practice democratic education in public-school classrooms. Nine participants, teachers in K12 schools, were interviewed for this qualitative study. In investigating how public-school teachers implemented and sustained democratic education in their classrooms, six themes emerged--fostering relationships, empowering students, and teaching and using democratic skills, democratic educative structure, democratic teacher praxis, and obstacles.

Polymer education relies on generally agreed terminology and nomenclature rules. The Polymer Division of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) generates and recommends such rules for naming processes and materials in polymer science. It is the goal of IUPAC that these recommendations be applied in polymer science curricula worldwide. For this purpose, a large amount of material has been provided by the Polymer Division of IUPAC, and in this paper these resources are described from the personal perspective of the authors. A discussion of terminology is then provided, including a detailed discussion of the term "dispersity" (M[subscript w]/M[subscript n]) and the rationale behind the recommended IUPAC names of different polymerization mechanisms. This is followed by a commentary on polymer nomenclature with examples. Finally, exemplary applications of resources provided by the Polymer Division of IUPAC for educational purposes around the world are presented.

Variants in the UNC45A cochaperone have been recently associated with a syndrome combining diarrhea, cholestasis, deafness, and bone fragility. Yet the mechanism underlying intestinal failure in UNC45A deficiency remains unclear. Here, biallelic variants in UNC45A were identified by next-generation sequencing in 6 patients with congenital diarrhea. Corroborating in silico prediction, variants either abolished UNC45A expression or altered protein conformation. Myosin VB was identified by mass spectrometry as client of the UNC45A chaperone and was found misfolded in [UNC45A.sup.KO] Caco-2 cells. In keeping with impaired myosin VB function, [UNC45A.sup.KO] Caco-2 cells showed abnormal epithelial morphogenesis that was restored by full-length UNC45A, but not by mutant alleles. Patients and [UNC45A.sup.KO] 3D organoids displayed altered luminal development and microvillus inclusions, while 2D cultures revealed Rab11 and apical transporter mislocalization as well as sparse and disorganized microvilli. All those features resembled the subcellular abnormalities observed in duodenal biopsies from patients with microvillus inclusion disease. Finally, microvillus inclusions and shortened microvilli were evidenced in enterocytes from unc45a-deficient zebrafish. In the current study, we investigated decreased hatchability and increased embryonic mortality in two farms of layer breeders (flocks A1 and B1) and a farm of broiler breeders (flocks C1 and C2) from Austria, which also presented discoloration of eggshells in 2% of the eggs. After conducting clinical evaluations and the approval that the feed operator was common for flocks A1 and B1, and C1 and C2, it was decided to investigate the feed. Our findings revealed that the feed contained levels of nicarbazin and narasin up to five and 14 times, respectively, above the maximum limits allowed by the European Union for nontarget species. On the other hand, there were no significant abnormalities in vitamin levels, which were also described as the etiology of the noticed abnormalities. Switching to a noncontaminated feed resulted in the clinical signs and production parameters returning to expected ranges. This report emphasizes the significance of considering feed contamination by nicarbazin and narasin as a potential cause of hatchery losses in nontarget species, even in the absence of other clinical signs. En el presente estudio, se investigó la disminución de la incubabilidad y el aumento de la mortalidad embrionaria en dos granjas de reproductoras ponedoras (parvadas A1 y B1) y una granja de reproductoras de pollos de engorde (parvadas C1 y C2) de Austria, que también presentaron decoloración del cascarón en el 2% de los huevos. Luego de realizar evaluaciones clínicas y la aprobación de que el operador de alimento era común para las parvadas A1 y B1, y C1 y C2, se decidió investigar el alimento. Nuestros hallazgos revelaron que el alimento contenía niveles de nicarbazina y narasina de hasta cinco y 14 veces, respectivamente, por encima de los límites máximos permitidos por la Unión Europea para especies no objetivo. Por otro lado, no se observaron anomalías significativas en los niveles de vitaminas, lo que también se describió como la etiología de las anomalías observadas. El cambio a un alimento no contaminado provocó que los signos clínicos y los parámetros de producción regresaran a los rangos esperados. Este informe enfatiza la importancia de considerar la contaminación del alimento por nicarbazina y narasina como una causa potencial de pérdidas en la eclosión de especies no objetivo, incluso en ausencia de otros signos clínicos. A young male in his mid-teen years presented with severe back pain for 3months and was subsequently diagnosed with osteoid osteoma in the left superior articular process of the L4 vertebra. Initial treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs provided temporary relief. Due to concerns about scoliosis progression along with unrelieved pain, a multidisciplinary team recommended endoscopic excision of the osteoid osteoma. The procedure resulted in complete pain relief and an improvement in the scoliosis curve from 22° of Cobb’s angle to 12 degrees at the 8-month follow-up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
