Reasoners are one of the main components of the ontological systems and the work of reasoners is the most resource-intensive task in ontology processing. The study proposes the reasoner combination method to enhance the performance of ontological systems. Its essence is selecting the most suitable reasoner out of the HermiT, Pellet and FaCT++ reasoners depending on the type of ontology. The distinctive feature of the research is combining the advantages of tableau and hypertableau methodologies.The criterion, which has been developed, allows you to choose a reasoner for an ontology with optimal performance based on ontology components: TBox, ABox, RBox.The results of the studies clearly show that the application of the reasoner combination method outstrips the performance of any particular reasoner, considering that the reasoner will process different types of ontology. The testing method was conducted on a set of 8 different ontologies: BP XP OBOL, FMA Lite Fly Taxonomy, Biological Process, DLP ExtDnS, MGED, DOLCE-Plans, SWEET Numerics.The study resulted in the development of the method which will allow applying ontologies in the tasks that require high performance and processing of a large body of knowledge., Проведено аналіз різонерів для роботи з онтологічними базами знань з метою збільшення швидкодії цих баз. One of the most destructive effects of global climate change is the increased carbon sequestering and consequential acidification of our world’s oceans. The impacts of ocean acidification on marine organisms are still relatively unknown, especially effects on behavioral ecology. Avoiding predation has emerged from recent behavioral ecology literature as a critical feature in the life history of a wide array of animal species; experiments on marine fishes suggest acidic water compromises their predator-avoidance abilities. Recent assays in our lab suggest predator-induced behavior is reduced by weakly acidic water. These experiments do not address the potential factor of generalized malaise caused by acidic water. To test this malaise hypothesis, I examined whether predator-induced reduction in feeding, previously documented by the Wright lab, is eliminated by acidic water using the following treatments: ambient artificial seawater (ASW) acidic ASW ambient predator-scented ASW acidic predator-scented ASW The malaise hypothesis predicts predator odor in acidic water would decrease feeding furthermore because the acidic water would sicken the subject. By contrast, if acidic water has a more subtle effect on hermit crab’s ability to detect its predator, the hermit crabs’ feeding in the presence of acidified water and predator odor should increase feeding rates to be comparable to ambient predator-free water. Preliminary experiments confirm slightly acidic water compromises predator detection, resulting in significantly more food consumption; these results discredit the generalized malaise hypothesis. This trend indicates global climate change could have significant and previously unanticipated impacts on predator-prey relations in marine communities.

The main claim of this dissertation is that the ritual and social power of the Tibetan hermit lies in the performance, embodiment and final reconciliation of paradox – generally attaining soteriological goals in mundane life and specifically, resolving the dilemmas of Tibetans during times of perceived crisis. Acts of renunciation become an affirmative strategy, activating networks that have sustained hermits, their lineages, practices, and training venues for centuries. The reason for social empowerment of hermits lies in the radical nature of their training, which by social agreement is not only bound to generate liberation and enlightenment, but is even able to yield fruit “in this very body and life,” in emulation of Mi la ras pa. Such transformation of the body through meditation is crucial to the hermit’s ability to reconcile contradictions and to establish hermitages as venues for effective identity construction and spheres of autonomy and power, extracted from local history and sacred geography. Especially in times of crisis, hermitages tend to form networks and evolve into a movement for counter-culture, which circumvents or speaks against the established power structures of the day, but at the same time, maintains its essentially religious character.

Emendatio vitae was the most widely copied of all Richard Rolle’s writings in fourteenth and fifteenth-century England, and yet in modern scholarship this important work and its early audience have received comparatively little scholarly attention. My aim has been to address this lacuna by producing an edition of one of the seven Middle English translations of the text - Amendinge of Lyf - with notes and glossary. In an introductory study I adopt a dual focus: Rolle’s intended audience, and the actual early readers of this particular Middle English translation. Firstly, I conclude that Rolle may have intended Emendatio vitae as a work of ‘pastoralia’, for secular priests, and therefore with a wider audience of the laity also in mind. This being the case, it demonstrates that the adaptation of traditionally eremitic contemplative writings for a general audience, so widespread in the fifteenth-century, was already stirring in Rolle’s day. Secondly, I look in detail at a specific crosssection of Rolle’s early readership: a translator, several scribes and correctors, and other early readers and owners. The striking thing about this segment of the text’s reception is its breadth, including a priest, a number of prominent lay women and men, and by the end of the fifteenth-century also Dominican and Benedictine nuns.
