Physicians less than the recommended dosages of antibiotics. UNCOMPLICATED GONOCOCCAL INFECTIONS IN MEN AND WOMEN DRUG REGIMEN OF CHOICE The regimen of choice is aqueous procaine penicillin G, administered at a dose of 4.8 million units intramuscularly, divided into at least two doses and injected at different sites at one visit, together with 1 gm of probenecid, by mouth, just before the injections. ALTERNATIVE REGIMENS Patients in whom oral therapy is preferred should take ampicillin, 3.5 gm, by mouth, together with 1 gm probenecid by mouth, administered at the same time. There is evidence that this regimen may be slightly less effective than the recommended treatment with aqueous procaine penicillin G.Patients who are allergic to the penicillins (penicillin G, ampicillin) or to probenecid or who have had an anaphylactic reaction should be treated with the following regimensTetracycline hydrochloride, 1.5 gm initially by mouth, followed by

Abstract

In 1966, nineteen countries of West and Central Africa began a regional smallpox eradication and measles control programme in cooperation with the World Health Organization. This paper summarizes sample survey data collected to assess the results of the programme in Northern Nigeria (Sokoto and Katsina Provinces), Western Nigeria, Niger, Dahomey, and Togo. These data indicate that the programme, which used mass vaccination campaigns based on a collecting-point strategy, was generally successful in reaching a high proportion of the population. Analysis of vaccination coverage and vaccination scar rates by age underlined the importance to the programme of newborn children who accumulate rapidly following the mass campaign. Of all persons without vaccination scars at the time of the surveys, 34.4% were under 5 years of age; in the absence of a maintenance programme, this figure would rise to 40% after 1 year.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to evaluate whether fine-needle aspirate cytology of a previous surgical site was predictive of recurrence for incompletely excised mast cell tumors (MCTs). Electronic medical records were searched for dogs diagnosed with MCTs; those with histologically confirmed, incompletely resected MCTs evaluated by scar aspiration cytology within 60 days after surgery were included for analysis. Variables were compared between groups using Fisher's exact test and logistic regression. Twenty-nine cutaneous and 7 subcutaneous tumors were evaluated. Local recurrence, confirmed by either histopathology or cytology, occurred in 13.8% of cases. No significant differences were identified for any variables other than surgical site cytology status. The negative predictive value of surgical site aspirate cytology without residual mast cell tumor was 93.5%, with an overall predictive accuracy of 88.9%. For the dogs evaluated in this report, surgical site aspiration cytology was predictive of local disease control for incompletely resected MCTs., (Copyright and/or publishing rights held by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.)
