Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) play pivotal roles in various biological processes in plants. However, the role of ncRNAs in tapping panel dryness (TPD) of rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) is largely unknown. Here, the whole transcriptome analyses of bark tissues from healthy and TPD trees were performed to identify differentially expressed long ncRNAs (DELs), microRNAs/miRNAs (DEMs), genes (DEGs) and their regulatory networks involved in TPD. A total of 263 DELs, 174 DEMs and 1574 DEGs were identified in the bark of TPD tree compared with that of healthy tree. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis revealed that most of the DEGs and targets of DELs and DEMs were mainly enriched in metabolic pathways, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and plant hormone signal transduction. Additionally, the majority of DEGs and DELs related to rubber biosynthesis were downregulated in TPD trees. Furthermore, 98 DEGs and 44 DELs were targeted by 54 DEMs, 190 DEGs were identified as putative targets of 56 DELs, and 2 and 44 DELs were predicted as precursors and endogenous target mimics of 2 and 6 DEMs, respectively. Based on these, the DEL–DEM–DEG regulatory network involved in TPD was constructed, and 13 hub DELs, 3 hub DEMs and 2 hub DEGs were identified. The results provide novel insights into the regulatory roles of ncRNAs underlying TPD and lay a foundation for future functional characterization of long ncRNAs, miRNAs and genes involved in TPD in rubber tree. Recently, liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) have drawn much attention for its wide applications as artificial muscle in soft robotics, wearable devices, and biomedical engineering. One commonly adopted way to trigger deformation of LCEs is using embedded heating elements such as resistance heating wires and photothermal particles. To enable the material to recover to its unactuated state, passive and external cooling is often employed to lower the temperature, which is typically slow and environmentally sensitive. The slow and uncontrollable recovery speed of thermally driven artificial muscle often limits its applications when even moderate cyclic actuation rate is required. In this article, inspired by biology, a vascular LCE‐based artificial muscle (VLAM) is designed and fabricated with internal fluidic channel in which the hot or cool water is injected to heat up or cool down the material to achieve fast actuation as well as recovery. It is demonstrated that the actuation stress, strain, and cyclic response rate of the VLAM are comparable to mammalian skeletal muscle. Because of the internal heating and cooling mechanism, VLAM shows a very robust actuating performance within a wide range of environmental temperatures. The VLAM designed in this article may also provide a convenient way to harvest waste heat to conduct mechanical work. Vascular artificial muscle can be actively and internally heated up or cooled down by injecting hot or cold fluid into its internal fluidic channel to induce fast actuation and recovery. The basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors (TFs) play important roles in many physiological processes of plant-pathogenic fungi, especially concerning fungal development, fungicide resistance, and pathogenicity. Colletotrichum siamense is the predominant species causing Colletotrichum leaf disease (CLD) in rubber trees. However, little is known about the bZIP genes in C. siamense. In this study, 25 bZIP genes were systematically identified in the genome of C. siamense, and molecular features were characterized. Evolutionarily, the CsbZIP genes were divided into 11 groups, with the members in the same group sharing similar gene structures and conserved protein motif organizations. Furthermore, protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis revealed that 15 bZIP proteins had functional partners in common or interacted with other CsbZIP proteins. Additionally, the expression of 23 CsbZIP genes changed in response to the antifungal chemicals melatonin, prochloraz, and thymol, and the genes could be divided into three clusters based on their expression patterns. Finally, gene deletion mutants of CsbZIP01/09/17 were constructed and functional analysis indicated that these genes operated as important regulators of mycelial growth, fungicide resistance, ergosterol biosynthesis, and virulence in C. siamense. Mechanical metamaterials have recently been exploited as an interesting platform for information storing, retrieval and processing, analogous to electronic devices. In this work, we describe the design and fabrication a two-dimensional (2D) multistable metamaterial consisting of building blocks that can be switched between two distinct stable phases, and which are capable of storing binary information analogous to digital bits. By changing the spatial distribution of the phases, we can achieve a variety of different configurations and tunable mechanical properties (both static and dynamic). Moreover, we demonstrate the ability to determine the phase distribution via simple probing of the dynamic properties, to which we refer as mechanical proprioception. Finally, as a simple demonstration of feasibility, we illustrate a strategy for building autonomous kirigami systems that can receive inputs from their environment. This work could bring new insights for the design of mechanical metamaterials with information processing and computing functionalities. Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) have recently been intensively explored in various applications as soft actuating materials and opto-mechanical coupling materials. Since the orientation of mesogens in the elastomer largely determines its properties, various methods of programming the alignment of mesogens in LCEs have recently been developed. However, most of the methods either involve complex fabrication processes or have intrinsic limitations in their applicability. In this article, we synthesize a LCE with dynamic disulfide bonds and propose a facile room-temperature mechanical programming method via a "living" exchange reaction without requiring additional stimuli and catalysts. We also, for the first time, reveal the "living" exchange reaction of disulfide bonds at room temperature in a bulk polymer. Such a "living" exchange reaction relies on the significantly prolonged lifetime of free radicals generated during the breakage of disulfide bonds, which is counterintuitive and in contrast to most previous understandings. Thanks to the disulfide bond, the patterned orientation of the mesogens in the LCE is erasable and reprogrammable. In addition, the synthesized LCE also exhibits a shape memory effect, enabling the design of deployable soft actuating devices.
