Abstract

Selective deboronation of the B6 vertex could be achieved by functionalizing the B3 vertex and the study conducted shows that same results are achieved by sterically masking the B3 vertex from the nucleophile. The compounds provide useful symmetrical intermediates for use as carboracycle and supramolecular precursors.

Abstract

A novel deboronation method involving sodium cyanide for selective degradation of ortho-carborane cages is demonstrated. Its is shown that when this technique is used, dodeca[6-(2-methyl1-1,2-dicarbanido-dodeecaboran-1-yl)hexyl]-closo-dodecaborane(14-) is obtained and exhibited, increased water solubility over other nido-closomer salts, important factor for the successful application of these naonparticles as boron delivery vehicles for boron neutron capture therapy.

Abstract

The syntheses of a series of ester-linked derivatives of the icosahedral [closo-B12(OH)12](super 2-) boron cluster (closomer esters) are described using several synthetic methods. A closomer ester having twelve terminal amino groups is prepared, and without isolation, fully acetylated in good yield.

Abstract

The complete synthesis and characterization of a novel class of camouflaged carborane amphiphiles is reported along with micrographic evidence of their self-assembly behavior in solution. The results have demonstrated the self-assembly of B-polymethylated carboranes into supramolecular structures for the first time.

Research has been conducted on the cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl compounds. The synthesis of these compounds composed of 1,12-dicarba-closo-dodecarborane as a ligand precursor has been carried out and investigated and the results indicate that these compounds are luminescent.
