Peer counseling is becoming an increasingly viable treatment option when working with people living with HIV and AIDS, especially during the diagnostic process. Unfortunately, little research has looked at the perceived benefits of peer counseling from the perspectives of clients receiving the services and those providing the services. In addition, research suggests that hope can help people living with HIV to deal with the HIV diagnosis and to improve their lifestyles; however, the authors were unable to locate any research exploring the benefits of peer counseling in fostering the hope of people living with HIV/AIDS. The present paper, following a community-based research paradigm embedded within a qualitative case study methodology explores the benefits of peer support counseling from the perspective of 12 participants living with HIV who have had experiences with peer counseling. Participants identified several thematic benefits of peer support counseling, including the role of peer counselors in the process of fostering hope. Roles and benefits of peer counseling, in relation to the facilitation of hope for people living with HIV/AIDS, suggest potentially interesting implications for future research and practice in HIV/AIDS care.

This investigation compared percent fat obtained via underwater weighing using measured and predicted residual lung volume (RLV) in euhydrated and hypehydrated collegiate wrestlers (N = 67). RLV was measured using [O.sub.2] rebreathing or [0.sub.2] dilution and predicted using 3 equations--Equation 1:(0.019 x height [cm]) + (0.0115 x age [years])--2.24; Equation 2: (0.017 x age [years]) + (0.06858 x height [in.])--3.477; and Equation 3: (0.0275 age [years]) + (0.0189 height [cm])--2.6139. Percent fat determined using RLV Equation 2 did not differ from the value obtained using measured RLV in the euhydrated (10.9 (+ or -] 5.1 vs. 11.5 [+ or -] 5.6% fat) or hypohydrated (10.8 [+ or -] 5.1 vs. 12.3 [+ or -] 5.6% fat) trials. All other percent fat values differed (p < 0.05) from the value obtained using measured RLV in euhydrated subjects. The use of RLV Equation 2 may be a practical alternative to measured RLV in determining percent fat in euhydrated and hypohydrated collegiate wrestlers. The synthesis of HIV-1 protease inhibitor DMP 323 is based on the production of the acetonide as the favored core C2 symmetric diol by pinacol homocoupling of CBZ protected D-phenylalanine. Crystallization from a mixture of DMF and ethyl acetate generates the desired product in 75-95% yield depending upon the purity of 3. The termination step in the synthesis of DMP 323 involves elimination of protecting groups by using a mixture of toluene/methanol/concentrated HCl. The experimental procedure for the synthesis of dihydroxy diazapinone is discussed.

This paper focuses on the technical and operational aspects of calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) compared to those for salt for winter road deicing. The results are based on a winter road test conducted by the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), for the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), in the Lake Tahoe basin, during the winter of 1989-90. CMA test sections and salt control sections were employed to make comparative evaluations. Road conditions were monitored during winter storms in test and control sections. Reports from maintenance personnel and road monitors were used to evaluate resulting responses of test and control sections to determine the performance of the applied chemicals. Operational characteristics of CMA use were noted by NDOT supervisors. Topics addressed include the minimum temperature of CMA and salt effectiveness, the nature of CMA and salt interaction with varying road conditions, clearing times and levels of service for CMA and salt, and operational characteristics of CMA use. The results are correlated with other field studies.

Collaborative care (interdisciplinary/interprofessional teamwork) in mental health is emerging as best practice in primary care, hospitals, and government agencies. Counsellors have much to offer and benefit from working with other professions in service of their clients. While most health professions are well on their way integrating collaborating with one another in practice, it is yet unclear how often, and in what ways, counsellors are included in these teams. This scoping review of the literature on collaborative practice in counselling addresses the question: "What is the role of Professional Counselling and Clinical/Counselling Psychology in a collaborative model of mental health care?" This scoping review looks at 40 studies published between 2012 and 2015. Counsellors are often included on multidisciplinary teams in diverse roles.
