To investigate the expulsion effect of different expulsion modes on Hexagrammos otakii, this study examined various environmental conditions in an indoor tank. Specifically, different lighting conditions (white, blue, and green light at illumination intensities of 5000 lx, 8000 lx, and 10000 lx) were explored, as well as varied sound conditions (sound frequencies of 150 Hz, 300 Hz, and 450 Hz at different sound pressure levels of 130 dB, 140 dB, and 150 dB) and bubble curtain conditions (air volumes of 60 L/min, 120 L/min, and 180 L/min). Additionally, the expulsion effect of different fish densities (1.56 tails/m2, 2.35 tails/m2, 3.13 tails/m2) of Hexagrammos otakii was investigated. The findings revealed that the bubble curtain exhibited the most effective expulsion effect on Hexagrammos otakii, with an expulsion rate of (40.4 ± 12.0) %, the highest period of 53%, and an average expulsion distance of 3.0 expulsion intervals when the air volume was 180 L/min and the fish density was 1.56 tails/m2. Conversely, the expulsion effect of light and sound on Hexagrammos otakii was found to be insignificant, with the expulsion rate of sound not exceeding 20% and that of light being lower than 15%. These results have implications for the selection and design of fish expulsion equipment in offshore areas, such as those surrounding wind farms and nuclear power plants. Therefore, this study provides valuable scientific reference for resource managers and practitioners in the field.

Summary: With the rapid development of quantum computing, a variety of quantum convolutional neural networks (QCNNs) are proposed. However, only 1/2n2 features of an n-qubits input are transferred to the next layer in a quantum pooling layer, which results in the accuracy reduction. To solve this problem, a QCNN with a degressive circuit is proposed. In order to enhance the ability of extracting global features, we remove the parameters sharing strategy in the quantum convolutional layer and design a quantum convolutional kernel with global eyesight. In addition, to prevent a sharp feature reduction, a degressive parameterized quantum circuit is adopted to construct the pooling layer. Then the Z-basis measurement is only performed on the first qubit to control the operations on other qubits. Compared with the state-of-the-art QCNN, i.e., hybrid quantum-classical convolutional neural network, the accuracy of our model increased by 0.9%, 1%, and 3%, respectively, in three tasks: quantum state classification, binary code recognition, and quaternary code recognition.

Abstract To achieve carbon neutrality, renewable energy‐based power systems and hydrogen are increasingly being promoted. A novel electricity‐thermal‐hydrogen integrated energy system that combines new energy generation, multi‐source load, and multiple energy storage is proposed by the authors. To address uncertainties in new energy output, and issues of untimely unit regulation response and large planning tracking errors, a multi‐scale scheduling method based on model predictive control (MPC) was proposed. In the day‐ahead dispatching stage, an optimal economic dispatching model was established with the lowest system operation cost as the optimisation objective. The model considers equipment investment, operation, maintenance, and peak‐to‐valley differences in electricity prices. In the intraday dispatching stage, an MPC‐based intraday rolling optimisation correction strategy was proposed to cope with contact line power fluctuations caused by prediction errors of new energy and multi‐source load. This strategy combines time‐domain rolling and feedback correction of the real‐time system state to eliminate the influence of uncertainty factors in the microgrid. The MPC‐based intraday rolling optimal scheduling model was established in the form of a discrete state space and transformed into a quadratic planning problem to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the model solution. Finally, a typical microgrid was used as an example to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results show that the contact line tracking error can be within 0.025 kW, and the single scheduling time was within 0.14 s.

The interactive operation of multi-energy Microgrid (MEMG) in energy market is facing more and more incomplete information decision-making requirements due to the enhanced privacy of users, which brings great challenges to the participation flexibility of MEMG in demand response programs. Meanwhile, considering the uncertainty of the external MEMG unit combination, the randomness of the environmental meteorology, the interactive characteristics of the external MEMGs are complex and time-varying. To solve these problems, a novel GRU-TCN network based Interactive Behavior Learning method for MEMG interactive operation is proposed. The proposed Interactive Behavior Learning framework needs merely externally available input information and historical interaction power data to efficiently predict the interaction power, which protects the data privacy of users. Besides, the GRU-TCN network also leverages the strengths of Recurrent Neural Network and Convolutional Neural Networks while incorporating the self-attention mechanism. This combination enables the GRU-TCN network to effectively capture the relationship between interactive power and the available resources data beyond the MEMG. The example analysis and test are carried out on a typical MEMG system, and the case study turns out that the proposed GRU-TCN network has the capability to capture coupling mechanisms even in the presence of incomplete information and present more accurate prediction of multi-energy interactive data.

T5 is a siphophage that has been extensively studied by structural and biochemical methods. However, the complete in situ structures of T5 before and after DNA ejection remain unknown. In this study, we used cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to determine the structures of mature T5 (a laboratory-adapted, fiberless T5 mutant) and urea-treated empty T5 (lacking the tip complex) at near-atomic resolutions. Atomic models of the head, connector complex, tail tube, and tail tip were built for mature T5, and atomic models of the connector complex, comprising the portal protein pb7, adaptor protein p144, and tail terminator protein p142, were built for urea-treated empty T5. Our findings revealed that the aforementioned proteins did not undergo global conformational changes before and after DNA ejection, indicating that these structural features were conserved among most myophages and siphophages. The present study elucidates the underlying mechanisms of siphophage infection and DNA ejection.

BackgroundAlzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by neuroinflammation, which is frequently accompanied by immune system dysfunction. Although the mechanism of neurodegenerative lesions is unclear, various clinical trials have highlighted that early intervention in AD is crucial to the success of treatment. In order to explore the potential of immunotherapy in the early period of AD, the present study evaluated whether application of glatiramer acetate (GA), an immunomodulatory agent approved for remitting–relapsing multiple sclerosis (RRMS), in the early stages of AD prior to amyloid beta (Aβ) deposition altered the Aβ pathology and cognitive impairments in APPswe/PSEN1dE9 (APP/PS1) transgenic mice.MethodsWe treated two cohorts of pre-depositing and amyloid-depositing (2- and 6-month-old) APP/PS1 mice with weekly-GA subcutaneous injection over a 12-week period. We then tested spatial learning and memory using the Morris water maze (MWM) and the Y maze. Immunohistochemistry staining was utilized to analyze Aβ burden in the brain as well as activated microglia. Furthermore, the inflammatory cytokine milieu within brains was estimated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and the peripheral CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the spleen were measured by flow cytometry.ResultsWe found that early GA administration reduced Aβ burden and ameliorated cognitive decline. Meanwhile, the immune microenvironment had changed in the brain, with an increase in the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines and a decrease in microglial activation. Interestingly, early GA administration also modulated the peripheral immune system through the amplification of Tregs in the spleen.ConclusionOverall, our findings revealed that GA treatment might enhance the central and peripheral immune systems’ protective capabilities in the early stages of AD, eventually improving cognitive deficits. Our research supports the advantages of immunomodulatory treatments for AD at an early stage.

ObjectiveIn this research, we investigated the current status, hotspots, frontiers, and trends of research in the field of bone-tendon interface (BTI) from 2000 to 2023, based on bibliometrics and visualization and analysis in CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and a bibliometric package in R software.MethodsWe collected and organized the papers in the Web of Science core collection (WoSCC) for the past 23 years (2000–2023), and extracted and analyzed the papers related to BTI. The extracted papers were bibliometrically analyzed using CiteSpace for overall publication trends, authors, countries/regions, journals, keywords, research hotspots, and frontiers.ResultsA total of 1,995 papers met the inclusion criteria. The number of papers published and the number of citations in the field of BTI have continued to grow steadily over the past 23 years. In terms of research contribution, the United States leads in terms of the number and quality of publications, number of citations, and collaborations with other countries, while the United Kingdom and the Netherlands lead in terms of the average number of citations. The University of Leeds publishes the largest number of papers, and among the institutions hosting the 100 most cited papers Hospital for Special Surgery takes the top spot. MCGONAGLE D has published the highest number of papers (73) in the last 10 years. The top three clusters include #0 “psoriatic arthritis”, #1 “rotator cuff repair”, and #2 “tissue engineering”. The structure and function of the BTI and its key mechanisms in the healing process are the key to research, while new therapies such as mechanical stimulation, platelet-rich plasma, mesenchymal stem cells, and biological scaffolds are hot topics and trends in research.ConclusionOver the past 23 years, global research on the BTI has expanded in both breadth and depth. The focus of research has shifted from studies concentrating on the structure of the BTI and the disease itself to new therapies such as biomaterial-based alternative treatments, mechanical stimulation, platelet-rich plasma, etc.

Abstract Tumor microenvironment (TME)‐triggered phototheranostic platform offers a feasible strategy to improve cancer diagnosis accuracy and minimize treatment side effects. Developing a stable and biocompatible molecular phototheranostic platform for TME‐activated second near‐infrared (NIR‐II) fluorescence imaging‐guided multimodal cascade therapy is a promising strategy for creating desirable anticancer agents. Herein, a new NIR‐II fluorescence imaging‐guided activatable molecular phototheranostic platform (IR‐FEP‐RGD‐S‐S‐S‐Fc) is presented for actively targeted tumor imaging and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas‐enhanced chemodynamic‐hypothermal photothermal combined therapy (CDT/HPTT). It is revealed for the first time that the coupling distance between IR‐FE and ferrocene is proportional to the photoinduced electron transfer (PET), and the aqueous environment is favorable for PET generation. The part of Cyclic‐RGDfK (cRGDfk) peptides can target the tumor and benefit the endocytosis of nanoparticles. The high‐concentration glutathione (GSH) in the TME will separate the fluorescence molecule and ferrocene by the GSH‐sensitive trisulfide bond, realizing light‐up NIR‐II fluorescence imaging and a cascade of trimodal synergistic CDT/HPTT/gas therapy (GT). In addition, the accumulation of hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and down‐regulation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) can produce excessive harmful lipid hydroperoxides, ultimately leading to ferroptosis.

Apart from its role in inflammation and immunity, chemerin is also involved in white adipocyte biology. To study the role of chemerin in adipocyte metabolism, we examined the function of chemerin in brown adipose tissue. Brown and white adipocyte precursors were differentiated into adipocytes in the presence of Chemerin siRNA. Chemerin-deficient (Chem-/- ) mice were compared to wild-type mice when fed a high-fat diet. Chemerin is expressed during brown adipocyte differentiation and knock down of chemerin mRNA results in decreased brown adipocyte differentiation with reduced fatty acid uptake in brown adipocytes. Chem-/- mice are leaner than wild-type mice but gain more weight when challenged with high-fat diet feeding, resulting in a larger increase in fat deposition. Chem-/- mice develop insulin resistance when on a high-fat diet or due to age. Brown adipose depots in Chem-/- mice weigh more than in wild-type mice, but with decreased mitochondrial content and function. Compared to wild-type mice, male Chem-/- mice have decreased oxygen consumption, CO2 production, energy expenditure, and a lower respiratory exchange ratio. Additionally, body temperature of Chem-/- mice is lower than that of wild-type mice. These results revealed that chemerin is expressed during brown adipocyte differentiation and has a pivotal role in energy metabolism through brown adipose tissue thermogenesis.

Abstract Background Osteoporosis is a degenerative disease characterized by reduced bone mass, with low peak bone mass being the predominant manifestation during development and having an intrauterine origin. Pregnant women at risk of preterm delivery are commonly treated with dexamethasone to promote fetal lung development. However, pregnant dexamethasone exposure (PDE) can lead to reduced peak bone mass and susceptibility to osteoporosis in offspring. In this study, we aimed to investigate the mechanism of PDE-induced low peak bone mass in female offspring from the perspective of altered osteoclast developmental programming. Methods 0.2 mg/kg.d dexamethasone was injected subcutaneously into rats on gestation days (GDs) 9–20. Some pregnant rats were killed at GD20 to remove fetal rat long bones, the rest were delivered naturally, and some adult offspring rats were given ice water swimming stimulation for two weeks. Results The results showed that the fetal rat osteoclast development was inhibited in the PDE group compared with the control group. In contrast, the adult rat osteoclast function was hyperactivation with reduced peak bone mass. We further found that the promoter region methylation levels of lysyl oxidase (LOX) were decreased, the expression was increased, and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was raised in PDE offspring rat long bone before and after birth. Combined in vivo and in vitro experiments, we confirmed that intrauterine dexamethasone promoted the expression and binding of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and estrogen receptor β (ERβ) in osteoclasts and mediated the decrease of LOX methylation level and increase of expression through upregulation of 10–11 translocator protein 3 (Tet3). Conclusions Taken together, we confirm that dexamethasone causes osteoclast LOX hypomethylation and high expression through the GR/ERβ/Tet3 pathway, leading to elevated ROS production and that this intrauterine epigenetic programming effect can be carried over to postnatal mediating hyperactivation in osteoclast and reduced peak bone mass in adult offspring. This study provides an experimental basis for elucidating the mechanism of osteoclast-mediated intrauterine programming of low peak bone mass in female offspring of PDE and for exploring its early targets for prevention and treatment. Single-phase concentrated solid-solution alloys (CSAs) have exhibited excellent mechanical and radiation tolerance properties, making them potential candidate materials for nuclear applications. These excellent properties are closely related to dislocation movements, which depend on the stacking fault energies (SFEs). In CSAs, SFEs show large fluctuations due to variations in the local atomic environments in the vicinity of the stacking faults. In this work, first-principle calculations were performed to investigate the origin of the fluctuations in the SFEs of the widely studied CSA, NiCoCr, which show a very wide distribution from about −200 mJ/m2 to 60 mJ/m2. Compared to the common understanding that only atoms in close proximity to the stacking fault influence the SFEs in pure metals and dilute alloys, charge redistribution can be observed in several nearby planes of the stacking fault in NiCoCr, indicating that atoms several atomic layers away from stacking fault also contribute to the SFEs. Our analysis shows that Cr plays a major role in the large fluctuation in the SFEs of NiCoCr based on both electronic and magnetic responses. The flexible electronic structure of Cr facilitates easier charge transfer with Cr in several nearby atomic planes near the stacking fault, leading to significant changes in the d-electron number, orbital occupation number, and magnetic moments of Cr.

The deployment of Li–S batteries in the commercial sector faces obstacles due to their low electrical conductivity, slow redox reactions, quick fading of capacity, and reduced coulombic efficiency. These issues stem from the “shuttle effect” associated with lithium polysulfides (LiPSs). In this work, a haystack-like CeO2 derived from a cerium-based metal-organic framework (Ce-MOF) is obtained for the modification of a polypropylene separator. The carbon framework and CeO2 coexist in this haystack-like structure and contribute to a synergistic effect on the restriction of LiPSs shuttling. The carbon network enhances electron transfer in the conversion of LiPSs, improving the rate performance of the battery. Moreover, CeO2 enhances the redox kinetics of LiPSs, effectively reducing the “shuttle effect” in Li–S batteries. The Li–S battery with the optimized CeO2 modified separator shows an initial discharge capacity of 870.7 mAh/g at 2 C, maintaining excellent capacity over 500 cycles. This research offers insights into designing functional separators to mitigate the “shuttle effect” in Li–S batteries.
